short version: Need help with WIndows 8 because old laptop running WIndows 10 slow and most of the drivers are made for Win8, laptop is Asus X450CC, need an in-depth guide cause its my first time whole story: I'm getting a new SSD soon for this laptop cause I'm still using X450CC slow as fuck HDD, so I'm gonna need reinstall everything anyway, so I might as well just revert this laptop back to Win8. The reason it was upgraded to WIn10 is because this laptop is my brother's old laptop and I recently started using it cause my old daily driver (Asus T100Chi) charging port finally reach its limit and isn't able to charge anymore, so I just yoink my brother's old laptop since he is not using it anymore, and man it's a massive upgrade, even tho it only got an i5-3337U, 8GB RAM & GT720M, but I have no idea why he upgrade it to WIn10. I also notice that when I play LoL my GPU is barely being use, so I search it up and I found this, and even though LoL is a CPU bound game, in a way it says that if the manufucturer has barely any drivers for WIn10 for this particular laptop, then it shouldn't be upgraded to Win10, in which the site has barely any. And since this is my first time doing these kind of stuff, I need a really step-by-step guide on how to do this Oh and since the site shows most of the drivers are for Win8-64bit, I'd want a guide to Win8-64bit UNLESS the drivers works fine in Win8.1, in which it should be but I'm not sure so I'm just gonna play it safe BONUS QUESTIONS: 1. Is there any Win8 debloater? All I've found is Win10 2. How do you unscrew a stripped screw? I've tried using rubber bands but the one I have are all not wide enough and are tiny-winny ones (Important because one of the screw is one of the screw of the HDD and I can't upgrade it if I can't take it out) 3. Once I get into Win8 is it fine to install the latest driver for a hardware? Or do I have to start from the first then work my way up to the latest because a lot of the site's driver say something like "oh make sure u have an older version first before installing this one m8"

Hi ! A friend of mine plays alot of games but he has a issue where he crashes in EVERY game like Arche age, rainbow six siege ect. so because i play online with him and its kinda annoying i want to try to fix it so he has a modern gpu a HD 7950 (gigabyte) a fx 6300 and good mobo with psu oh yeah a good water cooler on cpu and not high temps on the gpu. also i updated all his gpu drivers to the latest and the latest most stable but neither worked (15.9.1) and (15.7.1) so my thought about it is that rainbow six siege is buggy as hell so ill rest it but arche age doesn't crash on every body every 5 minutes so my thought about it is since he is using a second hand pc that his OS is a little bit Crap he is using windows 8 64 bit so not 8.1 (i am planning a upgrade for him to win 10) so other than a fresh OS what can cause this problem?

Hello, I'm running windows 8.1 and all the explorer tasks has gotten really slow, Creating a new folder, renaming it, deleting files takes awfully long. When I create a new folder nothing happens so i get to another window of explorer get back to the current and only then it is created. Any ideas what may be the cause of this? Everything else works at normal speed. It seemed to me though that it got even worse after I installed MS Visual Studio. P.S. No, I'm not using Internet explorer.

It will be tmr that my friend will give me $1000 or maybe more for me to build a rig for him. I'm thinking of win8.1 as the OS but do I need to log into the Microsoft account or any account in order to set it up? If it is, I'm concerned that I won't be able to OC the GPU before I give it to him or download the drivers himself since doing it himself, he might get confused or make mistakes.

I saw Windows 8.1 Professional on http://g2a.com for $25 and I was really surprised! So I was wondering if G2A was a legit place to buy Windows 8.1. Also, I was wondering if I get Windows 8.1 from here, how would I get it on my First Build I'm doing soon? Would i have to do download it to a flash drive or what? Thank you in advance! So, after having a few blue screens, games crashing left and right, I thought I would try and reset win8 to original condition, boy was I not expecting this! So, decide to try the shift+restart and use the restart feature there, and It has dell backup and recovery bull ( I am using an old HDD from a dell PC). Try and run the normal windows reset, and get error 0xc000000f, won't work. So know I am up at 1 am trying to get this to work. Before anyone asks, yes I have looked for back-up CDs from dell, but there are two issues, one, I can't find them, two, I don't have a dvd drive. Am I going to need to buy a new copy of windows 8 or a new HDD, or both? Please, just help, and like I said 1 am, so.... yeah  Oh, and I hate all of this even more, why? You might ask, its brand new, and i have an awesome keyboard coming soon... geuss thats something to look forward too. UPDATE: now i cant even use dell's awful software.....

Well , I was suspicious of a heat issue on my processor ever since I assembled what is now my first DIY pc build After running RoG's benchmark RealBench v2.41, I was SURE it was a problem indeed. And for that I need help/advice/suggestions. My System specs: Intel Core i7 4790k @ stock with stock cooler Asus Maximus VII Hero, BIOS 2304 EVGA 750G2 750W WIndows 8.1 Professional (Upgraded from 8 instead of clean install) G.Skill Sniper 1866MHz, 8GBx2, XMP enabled Crucial M550 512GB SSD (main drive, non-UEFI/GPT install) Seagate Backup Plus Slim (hooked on USB 3.0) No GPU Installed (waiting for big maxwell/amd 300x with GTA V as deadline) Everything running on a spacious Thermaltake Level 10 GT I'll attach a picture of the bench I ran for 30 minutes and the temps on HWMonitor P.S. I have some Arctic MX-4 with me, so if TIM is the problem I can replace the one that came with the processor with a better one. P.P.S. I'm on a budget so water coolers/noctuas are out of question Extra question (to avoid making another post): Should I clean install WIndows 8.1 Pro but this time making sure it's on full UEFI mode? Any real, actual advantages over the good old BIOS/legacy mode? Thanks in advance for your time, guys.

I'll put the TL;DR at the top so people notice it.... TL;DR - is the xps 12 good in general? Good for a comp. sci major? Does the lack of a digitizer noticeably affect it? Should I wait for broadwell/skylake? Suggestions for similar alternatives? Okay, my idea is that I can buy an XPS 12 laptop for college. It is light and thin, so it is convenient for my commute. It also converts easily to a tablet, and I figure I can use a stylus to take notes on it. This saves me the trouble of buying paper ad infinitum, and also allows me to pretty much have all my notes with me all the time without the added weight. So my first question is, if anyone happens to know based on experience, is this worth it? Or will I eventually just stop using the tablet + stylus and go back to pen + paper? Additionally, I know the XPS 12 doesn't have a digitizer. Does anyone have any experience using a stylus on an XPS 12 or similar product that could inform me of the pros and cons. Or can tell me about a way to avoid the uncomfortable "white board" method of writing with your hand raised off the screen? (I suppose I could wear a glove if I want to look real dorky...which I'm okay with). I also know broadwell and skylake is around the corner, but I'm unfamiliar with the typical release cycles. Do you think I'd be better off waiting to see if the XPS 12 gets a refresh / a totally new model comes out with some similar features? Finally, I AM in fact a computer science major. I have a more powerful rig at home and I commute, so I don't really need mobile heavy lifting. Regardless, do you think this is an okay choice of laptop overall? If anyone has suggestions for alternatives, feel free to say so. However, I am interested in something that manages to do the laptop and the tablet thing both pretty well, which is why I was attracted to XPS 12 as opposed to Surface 3 which leans more towards tablet. I'm also not too fond of models where the screen detaches from the keyboard to make it a tablet. The xps 12 is (seemingly) the only model that is equal parts tablet and laptop, and also manages to do so without removing the screen or having the keyboard stick out.

So I had no idea where to look for help (since I haven't found anyone with the same issue I have), but I've decided this is probably the best place to ask. For the past 5-6 hours, I've been trying to get Hamachi or Tunngle to work. After several reinstalls I have found out that the installation is not creating a network adapter. That was a bit strange considering I've used Hamachi just few weeks back without a problem. I googled it out and then tried to install the adapter and the driver that goes with it manually. Of course, that doesn't work. When I try to install it, it starts normally but within 1-2 seconds it says "An error occurred during the instalation. The data is invalid". And the only option I have is to click Finish. I have tried turning off Windows Firewall, Avast, running it in safe mode, turning off driver signature verification. I even went to registry and deleted everything that was somehow linked to Hamachi or Tunngle. At one point it even added the adapter, but with the same error refused to install the drivers. Another time it said that the drivers are up to date, but in device manager there was a yellow triangle next to the adapter icon, so it didn't work. Since that led nowhere, I deleted the adapter and now I can't even add it again. Someone please help, this is killing me. Will I need to reinstall the OS? Why is it not working now, when it was working just fine couple of weeks ago?

Hello all, I am posting this through a recently built computer, (by me ) it hasn't had any problems with the posting, the inicial boot, but now, and again it is working fine, i've tried to connect a hdmi cable to it so I could watch a movie on television, and the computer recognises it, but it does not transfer the image to it. so i tried the hdmi (different one and old one with dif pc) and i've tried the television... it seems like the problem should be with the mobo's hdmi port, but the thing is that it recognised the tv, it knows the model, make, everything... I've screwed around with the multi screen settings a lot and still no difference... I hope one of you can help me solve this

Windows 8.1 Radeon PowerColor R9 290 PCS+ running the most up-to-date AMD Catalyst Control Center Monitor #1 = primary monitor Monitor #2 = secondary monitor WITH task bar So I like to keep my taskbar on Monitor #2. I move it to Monitor #2 > lock taskbar... now if I turn off Monitor #2, Windows gives me the "Device Disconnect" sound and the taskbar and all open windows on that monitor are moved to Monitor #1 (it even messes with icons on the desktop). Even shutting down and waiting for the PC to completely shut down and then turn them off doesn't work... I'm assuming one monitor "disconnects" from the PC at a fraction of a second quicker/slower than the other. I've Googled, I've searched through Windows settings, AMD settings, I've even installed DisplayFusion to see if it had an option to disable that. Can anyone help? I just want my taskbar, windows and icons to stay put! Never had this issue on Win7.

First off here are some specs.... Windows 8.1 New SSD with fresh Win8.1 install on it New 1tb HDD with nothing on it So I wanted to move the Users folder to the HDD since that can tend to get large and bogged down with a lot of random files. So I did a fresh Win8.1 install on the SSD and follow the directions here but ONLY for the Users folder (I've heard of issues with creating Junctions with Program Files and Program Filex (x86)) http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1934205/move-users-programfiles-x86-programdata-hdd-installing-windows-ssd-boot-drive.html So everything went fine, but now I'm running into minor issues. Unable to change Account Picture, can't bring up More PC Settings under Win Charms > Settings, can't open up Defrag (so I can disable it), Control Panel > Administrative Tools is empty. With the Account Picture and More PC Settings... to get a little more detailed, clicking just doesn't do anything. Nothing pops up. Also in my Googling is seems like people that moved their Users folder to a HDD are not able to install Windows 8 updates, their getting an error. So what do I do? It's obvious I'll need to reinstall Win8 but after that's done should I just leave Users folder on the SSD? Other than Documents, Videos, Downloads etc... are there any other Folders I should move to the HDD and create a Junction for?

Hello I am having some problems with my computer which I couldn't figure out by just browsing the web. When I shut the computer down (not pressing the power bouton for 20secs) the power LED on my case stays on. I have updated to the latest bios on my motherboard. I think 2016 I have tried to swap round the orientation of the cables on the mobo but as I thought it also didn't work. I have installed all windows updates and updated the operating system. I have a corsair obsidian 550d case. My specs: I5 3570k Asus p8z77v-lk 8gb Kingston hyperx Gtx660 Ocz550w 2x segate barracuda 1tb 120gb samsung 840evo Win 8.1 64bit.

Hi guys! I just saw a laptop deal from a local site and I would like to know your opinion if this laptop's a good buy. I know there are other configurations of this laptop and other versions, too (touch and non-touch) but let's just focus on this one. There are reviews on the internet about this laptop but not specifically this model, most reviews are on the touch version. Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 Specifications: Intel Core i7-3632QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.20GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB Storage nVidia GT645 2GB VRAM Super-Multi DVD-RW Windows 8 Single Language And for the price: $971 USD or $988 CAD. This is the non-touch version, and Lenovo claims the laptop to be 25% thinner than the usual laptop size. It's generally in the middle of being an ultrabook and a normal laptop. The processor is a quad-core i7 and not a dual-core i7 which could be seen in most laptops. The only downsides are its 1366x768 res (which I can tolerate and live with, by the way) and it's unremovable battery (the battery is sealed inside).

My apologies if there is already a topic regarding this issue. Not too long ago (a couple of weeks, actually), I bought a 4790K, a Maximus VI Impact, a Corsair CX600M PSU, and a Corsair H80i CPU cooler. When I try to do stress-testing (both Prime95 and IntelBurnTest), about three to four minutes later the entire system hard-locks, with the only cure being a hard-reset. The same holds true when I load and save to the BIOS the optimized defaults, except Prime95 freezes instantly. Gaming doesn't seem to bring it down, so I'm guessing my problem is mainly provoked with a heavy load. I do have integrated graphics on, mainly because I want to take advantage of OBS' QuickSync encoding when recording gameplay. The motherboard was updated to the latest BIOS using the DirectKey method (aka: the USB port in the back without having the system powered completely on). In Prime95, the rear temperature sensor recorded a maximum of ~60C before the hard-lock, while the IntelBurnTest hit a maximum of 78C before hard-locking the system. If anyone can offer help, I would be greatly appreciative. I really don't want to return any part of the platform because it took a lot of effort to cram everything inside an Elite 130 (that, and I don't like doing returns).

Hey there! Since I partitioned my 500gb HDD, my laptop doesn't seem to boot in the fast boot mode anymore. I have the setting ticked in the power settings, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Any help?

Hello Here is my question, I currently have (2) Corsair Neutron GTX 120gb SSD's they will be in a RAID 0 configuration, I also have (2) OCZ Vertex 2 120gb SSD's. Should I? Install the OS and all Apps on the corsair raid? or Install OS only on Corsair raid and Apps on the OCZ raid keeping the information separate? Note: Keep in mind that I will be buying more Corsair drives to boost raid 0 performance in the near future. Thank you for any and all input
