  1. So, last week I finished setting up my office internet with Spectrum. Currently it is running on an Arris Modem/Router combo, which I know is garbage and I'm planning on replacing it anyway. However, the main problem is the title. Out of the 5 computers connected to the network, my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 15-7577, is the only computer with problems accessing the internet, regardless of being connected through 5G wifi, or ethernet through the phone system. To summarize what is happening is that I can connect to the wifi and have connection for up to 5 minutes at a time, before losing internet access, yet still being connected to the 5G network. Same issue through ethernet, but 5G seems more stable than ethernet, which also doesn't make sense to me. I have tried renewing my ip address (cmd, ipconfig /renew) which didn't help with resolving the problem. I have narrowed the problem down to something with my computer, as the router, while pretty trash, doesn't seem to give the other computers problems. I have included a CMD log that spans some 10-20 minutes ish of me pinging 8.8.8.8 Edit: Just noticed that if I disconnect and reconnect from the wifi after losing internet access, I regain internet access. cmdlog.txt
  2. Hello: I am setting up my new setup and I want to get the lowest ping possible. My room does not have an internet connection, and when I ask people what I should do, they say: "jUsT bUy A wLaN rEpEaTeR", but WLAN Repeaters are inconsistent and their connection fluctuates too often. So what should I do to get the best connection possible (sub 10 ping)... Access Point? Powerline? Switch? WLAN Repeater? 20 meter ethernet cable? See my (shitty) illustration to understand everything better, very nice, yrs, Aurosis
  3. Buy more WiFi On Amazon: http://geni.us/s8A2m On Newegg: http://geni.us/WcA6C In an epic 6 month saga we set out to beam WiFi over distances way farther than it was ever supposed to go.
  4. Hello guys! This is my first post in this forum!! So what happens is the WiFi is in my parents room, and it is really good however it doesn't have the best range, so in my bedroom, the WiFi connection is terrible. My house is two houses that are made into one so that means that I have different power-line circuits so I can't use power-line plug thingy adaptors . However I did think about asking my Uncle who's a builder/contractor/handyman/whatever to run an Ethernet cable through my parents' room to my room but I want there to be Ethernet for the PC I'm going to get and wireless for my phone and etc. What should I do? Is there a product I can buy which is like a switch which also provides wireless and Ethernet connections. Or how can I get good wifi?
  5. Hi, having some major issues with our ISP given Router and thinking of upgrading due to recent problems. Quick information dump - around 13 devices, 1 of which plugged in via Ethernet, connected via Wi-Fi - Australian NBN, Telstra - ISP given Router (Telstra Technicolor) - 40+ MB/s download, only able to access around 7MB/s on Wi-Fi My Family has been using the ISP Router that Telstra gave us to go with our NBN package a couple of years back, it's been sort of fine, random times (usually 3 times a week) where it'll spike in Latency to 4k+ with some packet loss for over 5 minutes at a time, and the DNS will just randomly not have an IP connected to it (A quick troubleshoot fixes that). We were content to sit and deal with the random wi-fi drops, sometimes it would happen when someone would enter the house and their phone would connect to the Wi-Fi (Or at least it seems like that, happens as soon as they get into the house and calms down afterwards), but the past 2 weeks it's gotten progressively worse, download speed dropped to around 2-3MB/s, and finally today it just dropped altogether, could hardly access the Wi-Fi, takes a long time to load webpages, and a long time to load into a voicechat on Discord, we've restarted the Router multiple times and still nothing changed. Today, there was only around 6 devices connected, including the Ethernet Device (PC), which was perfectly fine with no problems. We've contacted Telstra Support when the internet was semi-fine and they just said they could not see any issues and to update the Firmware on the router, so we've decided they're useless and that we should just to Upgrade. We were thinking of upgrading to either the Netgear Nighthawk X4S AC2600 VDSL/ADSL Dual Band Gigabit Smart WiFi Modem Router or the TP-Link AC2800 Wireless MU-MIMO VDSL/ADSL Modem Router Archer VR2800, however the reviews for the TP-Link AC2800 worried us and immediately made us turn away, and the Netgear Nighthawk is very expensive and has a lot of extra features that were quite overwhelming for us, so instead we are thinking of upgrading our modem to the TP-Link Archer C7 Wireless AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit Router, as the reviews for it are good, it's $129 AUD, it does what we need from what we could see, and it's bound to be better than our current router, but we are worried it's going to be a waste of money, because at the moment we really don't know what the actual problem is. Anything would be helpful, thanks! (Quick Edit) 4 of us play Games on PC's, we don't constantly use our phones (6) unless we are away from our PC's so they are mostly sitting idle, and the console devices (PS4 and XOne) aren't on most of the time.
  6. Hey!I need help for configuring my router's speed to 100mbs because currently its at 35mbs! I asked a "computer specialist" why it can't go up in mbs's he said that he didn't know! So i need your help! Could you help me with configuring my AC750 Wireless Dual Band Router Model no.Archer C20? Thanks a lot!!!! Excuse me for my bad English i'm not very good with grammar and English is not my first language but i hope u understand UwU!
  7. My home internet is delivered through fiber. About 3 or 4 months ago, I had my ISP replace the "network terminal" after a complaint about the Wi-Fi connection not working during multiple times a day. They explained that the specific model of terminal I had was known for having a faulty wi-fi...thing (the part reponsible for sending out the wireless signal, I can't remember how it's called in English.), and they replaced it with a new model (both are Huawei models supplied by the ISP). After this switch, the Wi-Fi went back to working without fault. But a few hours later, I noticed my phone wasn't sending out messages, despite being connected to the network. After attempting to disconnect and re-connect, I saw the "no internet access" alert from the OS. Basically, the phone can connect to the Wi-Fi normally, but when it does, it's like the network stops working. Something I've noticed is that, when connected, if I just leave it there for a few hours, the connection will suddenly work for a few seconds and then stop again. This problem has been plaguing me ever since my ISP replaced the network terminal, and I've tried basically every solution online regarding the phone itself, with the exception of a factory reset. I'm pretty sure it can't be a problem with the network terminal itself, because my mother's laptop, her phone (which IIRC also runs Android 6.0), my sister's iPhone AND my other phone (which runs Android 5.0/Lollipop) all work perfectly fine when connected to the very same Wi-Fi. That said, I was hoping to get some advice here in regards to this issue, as most online solutions proved useless. Thanks in advance.
  8. I've been using a shitty little USB Wi-Fi adapter ever since I built my PC. Lately, I've started playing FPS's like Black Ops 2 and Titanfall, only to find that my ping is higher than the ISS! Now, my internet isn't bad by any means. I've been able to play console games(I have BO3 on PS4) no problem. I think the main problem here is that my computer is upstairs, while my console is down next to the router. Another thing to note is that my current adapter doesn't support 5Ghz connections. So, what's a good-quality Wi-Fi adapter - USB or PCI; it doesn't matter - that costs around or below $15? Preferably one that can connect to 5Ghz.
  9. Story time... So recently I finally got fed up with Rogers' CODA-4582U crap-tastic Wi-Fi, lackluster speed, terrible range and unacceptable unreliability. I picked up a Ubiquiti UniFi UAP-AC-PRO on sale for a great price, got it connected and configured pretty easily, went to disable the Wi-Fi built into the CODA-4582U, turned the wireless OFF for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, getting great speeds (from the Ubiquiti) about 300Mbps on my PC AND 280Mbps on my phone and excellent range to boot (reliability yet to be evaluated, but I'm guessing the Ubiquiti is probably going to cream the Hitron) so all's well right? NO! A new wireless network called "Easy Connect" / "Easy Connect 5G" has appeared in my list of available networks on both my PC and my phone, well all my clients really... So I thought to myself WTF is this network? At first I thought it was the maybe the guest network for the Ubiquiti, but according to the hardware MAC Address it is indeed the Hitron CODA-4582U. Apparently, this SSID gets turned on automatically when no other wireless config is present or Wi-Fi is turned off altogether and it's meant to use the "Easy Connect" software (available from Rogers on their website) to connect PCs, phones etc, to the Modem/Wireless Router and configure the Wi-Fi Network, if for some reason you don't own an ethernet cable and are a huge masochist... :/ I cannot figure out how to turn this network off! It's mere presence is seriously messing with my OCD, my siblings have already tried to connect to the internet using it by mistake twice and according to Wi-Fi analyser it runs on channel 1 and upto channel 5 and is potentially interfering with my shiny new Ubiquiti Wi-Fi! (I'm aware you can change Wi-Fi channels in the Ubiquiti app and have sone so) I looked in the Hitron CODA-4582U'S official user manual for help and found this: Well, if the manual is accurate to how the CODA-4582U is programmed, this problem makes a degree of sense. So naturally I'm at a complete loss on how to turn the Wi-Fi hardware off completely and am considering taking it apart and attempting to remove the Wi-Fi antennae completely, but I'm guessing they might just be built right into the circuit board with no way to disable or remove them. Note: I am aware I could have just gotten a third-party Modem and separate Wireless Router, but I didn't feel like going through the hassle of having one "provisioned" (did that for my grandparents' network, it was hell) and I was on a very tight budge the only reason I was able to afford the Ubiquiti is because it was on sale on Newegg during labour day for 40% off. My home network is also fairly complicated, consisting of many, many wired and wireless clients, security devices, VOIP, as well as a File/Media server and I didn't want to have to completely redesign and partially re-wire my home network, nor do I want to split my Wireless and Wired networks into 2 separate networks or subnets as that makes using SMB very complicated. I can also confirm that setting the Modem to Bridged mode turns on "Easy Connect" as well! Please give me any suggestions about how to disable the "Easy Connect" network, I'm open to jailbreaking etc. Thank You in advance!
  10. Short backstory: We upgraded to gigabit a few months ago but we are still using a combination of the included router/modem combo thing (that we refer to as a rodem) and an Asus RT-ACRH13, both work as wireless access points (the rodem is the router, the asus router is acting as just an AP.). We have issues where devices don't switch between them when moving throughout the house and occasionally it will kick off certain devices and refuse to allow them to connect back until we reboot the asus router. Signal strength seems good throughout the entire house but speeds drop dramatically (from ~200-250mb/s to 50mb/s or sometimes less). All the devices are AC (some are phones (Iphone 6s+, galaxy s6 edge+, LG G6, Galaxy S5) and some are PCs which all have Intel AC7620s) but my laptop (Precision M6700) gets 300mb/s almost everywhere and my mother's laptop (Satellite P775D with the same wireless card as mine) only get ~50-100mb/s). There are more issues like the windows laptop sometimes cause the wifi driver to crash when trying to connect and my G6 will not connect to 5GHz on either router)> Anyway I had 2 ideas for what we could do, the house is 3 levels ~2000sqft and would like to keep it as cheap as possible, definitely below $200: Idea 1: Budget Mesh We have 3 main areas where PCs are, see the s***y MSpaint drawing for more info I can get a Linksys Velop AC4600 (AC2200 + 2x AC1200 Satellites) for ~$160, this would give all the PCs Ethernet (though It's still over wifi so it wouldn't be full speed but hopefully it would be faster than the Wireless N cards in the desktops and my mother's weird issue with her laptop) Idea 2: Instead of spending that money on a mesh system buy a better router that would hopefully cover the entire area and provide decent speeds. S***y MSPaint drawing of my house (blue is linksys things from idea 1):
  11. Hi, Is it possible to do wi-fi direct connection between my laptop (Acer) and my phone? My phone has the feature but I didn't discover yet the feature on my laptop. Has anybody tried this? Thanks.
  12. So a family member of mine is hosting a large party, and only has around 15-25 Mb/s of wifi speed. There's going to be at least 10 people simultaneously connected to the wifi, so are there any ways I could increase the bandwidth JUST for this party?. Anything 50 dollars or less would be good.
  13. Good day, An interesting theory was brought forth today at my workplace. Easy as it may sound, I do not know how to prove or debunk the theory. One of our employees recently had an incident in which his laptop was stolen from his car. He shared that from the experience, his tech friend suspected the robbers could have located his laptop by tracking it through its probe requests for Wi-Fi. The Laptop was on sleep however at the time of theft. So my question goes, is there a simple way to prove or debunk the theory to a regular Joe to put the case to rest? I am still not sure that a probe will still go on even during sleep mode in Windows 10 Pro to be more specific. Any advise will be highly appreciated. Warm regards, Haron Mumuli.

  15. Hi! I am looking for a way to get the picture signal to a point in the room that is "unreachable" by the cables or it would be a struggle to get it to look nice.. So I am imagining like 2 modules with HDMI connectors that one would plug into the GPU and the other one in the display. Also the monitor itself is not smart and cannot connect to wi-fi or anything. If you have ever seen anything like that please let me know it would mean a lot! Thank you
  16. I have an hp laptop (https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-15-Notebook-PC-series/8499326/document/c04930362, Yes it sucks, but I need a reliable laptop on-the-go)that i wanted to upgrade: 8gb ram, ssd 1tb would be nice but I need to keep the hdd for heavy reads/writes so I might have to sadly swap out the optical bay (yes I still need it) and have to buy an external one since a SSHD or a 7200rpm seems won't help the load times a lot, and the minipci-e wlan card (now it has a rtl8188lEE b/g/n 2.4Ghz with 1x1 antenna) and I wanted to upgrade it to 5ghz because my wifi sucks (isp's b2328-42 is so crappy that I don't think connecting anything helps), but found only 2x2 modules... except Intel's Wireless-AC 3168NGW, wich is an Hp oem, has 1x1 antenna (max 433mbps, better than now), can be had for cheap and was recomended to another guy on Hp's forums for another laptop, but will it work? I've also considered the minipci-e to usb and using a dongle but I have some doubts about size and range ...have any suggestions? I already tried swapping the 1x4gb stick for 2x2 gb I pulled from another laptop but it didn't work, so I might buy a second one similar to the current
  17. Hi there, I'm not an informatics expert so I don't really know what should be the proper category for this thread. I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) with MacOS Mojave 10.14.3 (18D109) Since I came back to my parents' house I'm finding a weird thing: When I connect to the Wi-Fi of my house, trying to open whatever type of program on my Mac that requires an internet connection, I see a lag of like 5 or more seconds between the moment I click on the program (for example google chrome) and the moment that the Mac react to my command starting any type of animation showing that it received the command. Also, the speed performances of my internet connection are affected by this thing. If at home I use a VPN (in this case I use Espress VPN), this problem doesn't show up anymore. Plus also outside the house, this thing doesn't happen. So where exactly is the problem? ?
  18. I have a question would be beneficial to buy used enterprise-grade access points or a used enterprise-grade access point that are being sold at deep discounts and add them to a home network? Currently, am running cable at 200 Mb per second with a TD link 1200 AC router running DD WRT. Unfortunately, the range in my apartment isn't that great because there are so many Wi-Fi signals. My router is currently in the back of the apartment in one of the bedrooms and really can't be moved because of the location of the existing "cable modem", I am planning to move it to the front of the room once I cut my cable using the existing coaxial cable that is currently going into my cable box. I will also be moving my Wi-Fi router to that location which would help to get Wi-Fi to the front of the apartment but I was wondering if it would be better to add a used Cisco access point in the middle of the apartment making sure it has POE I would only have to run one cable as there is no electricity in the location I would like to put it. I don't live in a very large apartment but if I pull up how many networks are in my area that has to be over 20 which degrades my signal from the bedroom to the front of the apartment and I'm going to need for reliable Wi-Fi connections if I intend on disconnecting my cable and running I like Amazon fire sticks or Roku boxes. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  19. ARRIS SURFboard SBG6400 is my modem and comcast is my provider for service. I have my cable/wifi modem on a light switch so i can turn it off when not used. in the last few months usage has been very high and i also went over once. so i tested it and even when not connected to my computer and left on for 9 hours i racked up 38GB even after i have changed all the wifi log in and modem log in and pass words, so what gives? the next step was i called comcast, with no help. do i get a new box or do i use theirs and get screwed 10 bucks a month. or what can you guys come up with. i do live in a big apartment building if that helps. . guest network is disabled i only has 15mbps so even if i connected and they were data harvesting me it be pretty hard to rack 38gb in the few mins i was on or even if i was on for an hour
  20. Hi guys, am Sam, Nigeria based. Many times some tech guys do come up free internet cheat or hack on the network companies here like MTN Nigeria, Glo Nigeria, Aritel Nigeria and co, but hardly do any of them work. So i want to ask on this platform, is there any real way to get free internet? Secondly, is there any universal mifi modem that can work in any country? and how do the user subscribe to it? Hopping to get some good and positive responds. Best regards Sam

  22. I've just built this PC for my dad for Father's day and have installed windows 10. The part list can be found here. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sN6L9J The problem im facing is that there are no network adapters found. Even though my AsRock B360m-ITX/ac motherboard supports on board wireless. I go to device manager and under network adapters i only find Bluetooth. No wireless adapter and no LAN atapter I've attached a screenshot of this. I Also go to network and sharing center and then to change adapter settings and only find bluetooth. No LAN or Wireless again Screenshot attached of this also I went to AsRocks website for my motherboard. https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/B360M-ITXac/index.asp#Download I have the newest BIOS version P1.4 So i tried looking at the downloads. I see LAN drivers and Wireless LAN Drivers I installed these to a USB and unzipped them. I plugged the USB into the No Wi-fi PC and copied the files to the C: Drive I then tried to run the LAN driver auto install but received error "no intel adapter detected" So i tried to install the wireless LAN driver when running this autorun file simply nothing happens no error and no install starts. I've opened a ticket with AsRock support but im at a loss and really need help so i can get this up an running before father's day
  23. hi, im working on some acces points, but i had a question. i was thinking about some unifi's from ubiquiti. https://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-UniFi-UAP-AC-LR-Single-Version/dp/B01609AF22/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1471605088&sr=1-8&refinements=p_89%3AUbiquiti but i was wndering how many devices could connect to it. i needed it to be about 60 to 70 devices. Is 1 access point from ubiquiti enough or is there a better solution? thanks a lot!!
  24. I'm a newcomer to the world of 802.11ac wifi, previously I was using a OpenWRT 802.11n router but it only supports 2.4G, so eventually I had to change it. Now, my new router is a TP-LINK one, and it advertises a 1750 mbps speed. I know that kind of speed is not possible, as my laptops are reporting 866.7 mbps, but it's still not even close. Running an IPERF test, from one laptop to another, yields about 90 mbps and 140 mbps, I have no idea why I'm having different speed from different sides but that's not the point, the point is even 2x the aforementioned speed, the total bandwidth is 280 mbps max, still way slower than 866.7 mbps! I tried everything, I ensured the firmware of the router is the latest, I changed the adaptor settings according to many sources from the Internet, and updated all relevant drivers, this has minimal effect. What else might be the problem? Please educate me on this... I'm considering returning the router to be honest... Thanks a lot.
