First post here, Usually I can figure most of my computer related problems but this one is throwing me for a loop. Making this clear first: The data is important but not needed. I will not send the drive off anywhere. The entire drive was encrypted before data was placed on it. I believe I selected the option for compatibility. Issue: I plug up my portable ssd into a computer that has bitlocker on it, type in the password, select unlock, and bitlocker/ssd freezes up. The bitlocker password screen won't go away unless the drive is disconnected. Most hard drive tools/software don't seem to have the ability to reformat/remove bitlocker - I didn't invest much time in this area... maybe I missed something. Troubleshooting: I've tried different enclosures with different cables etc. I've tried USB 3 and USB 2. I've tried using the key to unlock the drive and same result. I've tried it on a desktop and a laptop both running windows 10. I've tried a couple cmd commands with no luck. Maybe missed some too. I've tried some software and windows to reformat drive with no luck (duh; encryption). Did not try: Running it on windows 7 (may try on a vm but don't see this option helping). Burning it in a fire. I attached screenshots. 1st is the bitlocker password screen **Looks just the picture, nothing happens. This is when the correct password (or key) is used and you press enter or hit unlock. When the wrong password (or key) is used, it states that it's incorrect and doesn't freeze up.** 2nd is just the disk in computer management. **Everything shows up before the password is entered. I can see the sabrent and the ssd information. When the password is used and you go to computer management to load the disks, computer management freezes up. When the drive is disconnected, computer management starts behaving properly. Hardware WD Blue SA510 - - ~6months old ~150gb of data written to it SABRENT 2.5 Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool Free External Hard Drive Enclosure [Optimized for SSD, Support UASP SATA III] Black (EC-UASP) Gaming Desktop - Custom - Windows 10 Gaming Laptop - MSI - Windows 10 If I can wipe bitlocker off the disk using some function I'm not aware of or some software I haven't tried, I would like to try that to be able to run some scans on the SSD. However, if there is a chance someone has a solution, I would prefer that! My guess is a bad drive. Any help is greatly appreciated. I feel as if LLT forums is the best place to try and get this resolved. I searched around on here a little and a lot on the web. I don't believe I've ever posted on any forum asking for a solution so any help is greatly appreciated!! For those of you who may ask a question, I'll try to answer as soon as I can. Thank you.

So I recently bought another wd sn750 1tb nvme so I can raid them in my new rig once I build it. The left one as you see is 3470 mb/s which I am using atm in my main rig but the one on the left is 3430 mb/s and the 2nd picture is the 3430 one. I know it is very little performance difference between both but I am curious if the right one is an older model before they revised it. There is no documentation on it so I have no clue.

I'm in the process of selling my old Alienware pre-built PC and I'm keeping my old Seagate 1 TB hard drive that came with the system and replacing it with a 500 GB western digital HD that I got for cheap. I want to move windows and all of the dell applications to the new hard drive and whip the remaining files off of my old Seagate so I have a fresh hard drive. How do I do that?

I saw ppl posting that WD SSDs appearing Cold Data Storage problems when I was looking to shop for my game SSDs from reddit/buildapcsales. https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/k3f0n3/ssd_wd_blue_1tb_newmaxx_performance_sata_ssd_8999/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 Had anyone experienced this kind of problems? Seems like the similar problems happened on 840 EVO

I wanna buy a portable HDD for music storage mainly (videos and documents also) for iPad and Smartphone music playback when traveling or chilling in the living room. I see this might be the best price/performance hdd for its capacity. It defends itself pretty well on all benchmarks and due to being made for gaming, I want to believe it has better components than the My Passport version. Here is a link to it: WD P10 5TB I looked at other HDD with similar capacity from Seagate or LaCie but they are either more expensive or they don’t perform that well when put to the test. If you guys have any other choice, I’m glad to consider it. One thing though, which matters to me quite a lot is the usb noise that can be caused by the hdd when plugged into the pc or any other portable device. I might get a galvanic isolator for the usb input of my music setup in the future but until then I don't want the hdd to make my setup unlistenable.

Hello, So some days ago my WD Blue 2TB drive started showing some issues. What it did was, boot up normally during startup, but then at the first time it goes under load, lets say i just go to the file explorer and open a folder, it is like it ejects from windows and it dissapears from everywhere. The drive is still spinning after that point. I need to recover some school files, and some coding projects. I don't need the whole drive, some GBs at most, most probably some megabytes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I decided to expand my storage on my PC by using one of my old WD External drives. Can someone help me identifying the connector pins and the process of taking up such a task.. Also I'm new here, just want to learn to do these things on my own and couldn't find a guide else where presumably because what I'm looking for is pretty basic stuff. From what I can tell, I have a WD My passport Ultra 2TB 2.5" WDBlue drive, model number WD20NMVW . I've attached some photos.

So I was looking to replace my 1TB WD Blue 7200rpm drive because it's beginning to be close to full and now it's clicking (~3 years old). I was thinking about getting a WD Black for (hopefully) more longevity out of the drive when I stumbled upon Tally Ho Tech's video (link below) on WD Gold drives which I watched because I was curious. They have twice as much cache as the Black, as well as 10x the rated load per year (~550TB per year (Gold)). On Western Digital's site, at least the 2TB models because that's what I was looking for, the WD Gold was CHEAPER than the WD Black! It was $110.99 for the Gold and $112.99 for the Black (-10% with a discount through the Honey extension). I just thought I would bring this to attention for anyone looking for a drive in this sort of range because it's a good deal. My new build will have 500gb NvMe but I want to have 2TB HDD for my games. I keep getting opinions on these drives as the best. Which of the 2 would be better to hold my games?

Hi. Iwant to upgrade my laptop from HDD to SSD, I have a little budget so i'm between the Kingston A400 240gb, the WesternDigital green 240gb and the SanDisk SSD Plus 240 gb. Which one should I buy? Why? I Will use it primarly as C partition, so my larger data will stay in the HDD

I'm not the biggest storage buff, all I really know is that Samsung more or less is the best, or at least one of the best, when it comes to their drives. The Crucial MX500, Seagate Barracuda 120 and WD Blue are all on sale right now with the Seagate being the cheapest (... and also having 2 product pages for some odd reason, one being 114 like the other two drives and this one being 106 and still being sold by Newegg). How do all of these stack up against the 860 Evo? Should I spend the extra 40ish bucks on the Evo or get one of these? I have the money for the Evo, but I want to know if any of these are worth it since they're all on sale and they're the ones I'm also considering.

hello, I just got a brand new 1TB Western Digital Scorpio Blue and an Orico 2139u3 enclosure. This is my first external drive and it seems slow. Are these speeds normal? test 1, test 2 I tried plugging it into different USB3 ports on my motherboard and as well as the USB 3 port on my CPU case. I also tried using it on a laptop. Thanks for the help!

Hello! I've been thinking about getting a 2TB external hard drive and these two are the two more affordable I could get. 1. https://www.amazon.es/Seagate-Expansion-STEA2000400-portátil-PlayStation/dp/B00TKFEE5S/ref=sr_1_7?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1517163441&sr=1-7 2. https://www.amazon.es/WD-Elements-Disco-externo-portátil/dp/B06W55K9N6/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1517164058&sr=1-1&keywords=western+digital+2tb Help me!!

Hello internet, I am currently working on finishing my first custom desktop build, I have a 60GB SSD with my OS and I have two 1TB Western DIgital Blue drives. Currently the computer boots from the SSD and runs fine for the most part, however neither of the WD Blues show up in my operating system, I have checked in CMD and under 'This PC'. Both WDs can be found in the bios. Any ideas on what the problem might be? Thanks in advance

So, When I was researching a little on hard drives today to buy me some. I came across the western digital's purple edition and the green edition. Wanted to know from an experience point of view... how much do i need and what's the difference between the editions. ? What if I went like. 1 TB in the pc so its not too crowded and 3 TB external, how about that? Or, if i should be getting western digital products or any other good HDD companies out there making the same with a bit of less price maybe? FYI, not a huge data person, like need 10 TB just to run the system. but movies and games would be stored in those spaces. Feel like 1/2 would be enough since I'd be using a 512GB ssd for running windows in it. Feel free to leave a comment about this anytime you want to. ! Cheers. !

just checked the WD website. found two things I didn't like: (1 no linux support mentioned and (2 no dual booting. Does that mean I can't partition the drive and put Linux in one partition and Windows on the other?

SOURCE: KITGURU @ http://www.kitguru.net/components/ssd-drives/anton-shilov/western-digital-readies-inexpensive-ssds-featuring-jmicron-controllers/ We basically all knew this was coming at one point, sooner or later. There is no denying that WD is one of the big-names in the storage market, but despite this have not entered the SSD market as of yet, well if these rumours pan out to be correct we might be seeing WD SSDs in the near future - These people seem to know how to do storage quite well. Well the initial lineup is rumored to be low-end SSDs featuring JMicron controllers, it sets the stage for more SSDs in the future, as well as another hopefully inexpensive enty-level SSD that can compete with the likes of the Crucial MX100. Since JMicron’s controllers are used on low-cost solid-state drives, if WD plans to utilise them, then it indicates that the company is working on inexpensive SSDs, which are usually used by consumers. Theoretically, this may mean that the company wants to substantially boost sales of SSDs this year. As always, WesternDigital has not made any public comments about these rumours. (Any hints @Captain_WD?) @msquare thought you might like this news.

Hey guys, want to upgrade my laptop to a WD dual drive and wanted to know if anyone else has and what the experience was like for you. I'm nervous of the cloning procedure, what are the risks that could be involved aside from losing everything, do I need to reactivate windows / will there be problems there? I have just bought an external hard drive for backing up should I move my files off the drive before i clone it and move them back after to the hdd so they aren't included on the clone? what can i do to make the ssd as efficient as possible / last as long as possible such as defragging, disc clean up and other things? what is the / is there any impact on performance of cpu ect for the second drive on the SATA connector? how did you measure the size of the HDD space in your laptop, just pull the current drive out and measure the thickness of it or ...? Specs seem to suggest the HDD I have is 9.5mm so the dual drive should fit I think plus what about running out of ssd space, how do you set temp files and other bits to not fill up the ssd (if you can)? did a quick look of the system files and programs and they seem to be at about 104GB (110GB but theres around 7GB of temp files ive not cleared yet) And i have an old laptop that has 6GB of ram that died is it worth swapping one of the 4GB dimms out for the 2GB dimm in the current laptop? Read article: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/storage/2014/01/13/western-digital-black-2-dual-drive-review/6 that says that "As such the Black^2 is far from award worthy at the moment. If that price drops by £50, though, it'll be well worth a look." talking about it being priced at £230 and it is available on amazon for £134 Laptop specs: Acer Aspire 5755G intel core i7-2670GM 2.2GHz - 3.1GHz boost 6GB DDR3 Nvidia GT630 with 2GB dedicated Vram 750GB HDD (Hitachi hts547575a9e384) Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/n 1 USB 3.0 port Don't want to fresh load windows as i had masses of driver problems when I first got the laptop which took an absolute age to resolve Thanks for your time

So over the past month I have been talking to numerous online friends of mine and gathering information and opinions on PC parts in general. I have come up with a PC build, one that to my knowledge seems to be pretty solid. However, I wanted to get a few final opinions from anyone who has one to offer. Listed below is a complete parts list (Aside from the monitor which has yet to be decided). It is categorized into parts that I have acquired versus parts I have not yet acquired. Basically, I just want to know if my friends and I put together an acceptable build. Let me know what you think! I am open to suggestions if they are significant improvements and within my price range. Acquired Parts: EVGA Z97 FTW Motherboard Corsair Vengeance Pro 8 GB (4x2) 2400 MHz RAM Antec HCG-M 750 w PSU Samsung 850 EVO 120 GB SSD Western Digital Black Series 7200 RPM 1 TB HD Corsair Graphite Series 230T Case ASUS DVD Drive (Black) EVGA Torq X10 Gaming Mouse Windows 8.1 OS Un-Acquired Parts: EVGA Geforce GTX 970 FTW 4GB Video Card Intel i7-4790K 4.0 GHz Quad Core CPU Corsair K70 Gaming Keyboard Cooler Master Hyper 212 CPU Cooler Monitor (TBD)
