If you've ever used a VPS, you know that it can be used as a webserver, but now I question; How does the dedicated server, that the VPS is hosted on, host a website on port 80 for all those VPS webservers? Because I have 1 public IP, and I can only set 1 port 80... Can anyone explain this a bit more to me? (Explain like I'm 5 if you can, I'm not that good at networking)

Hey! I have a big problem in my website. Since i moved from Apache webserver to Nginx the ads in my site are not working. I added these lines in my website config file in nginx: add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' 'https://xy.hu' always; (i tried with *, but nothing) add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Methods' 'GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, OPTIONS' always; add_header 'Access-Control-Allow-Headers' 'Accept,Authorization,Cache-Control,Content-Type,DNT,If-Modified-Since,Keep-Alive,Origin,User-Agent,X-Requested -With' always; I did nginx reload but nothing happened. i tested with curl -X OPTIONS -i https://xy.hu The answer is: HTTP/1.1 405 Not Allowed Server: nginx Date: Thu, 01 Jul 2021 21:33:48 GMT Content-Type: text/html Content-Length: 166 Connection: keep-alive Access-Control-Allow-Methods: GET, POST, PUT, DELETE, OPTIONS Access-Control-Allow-Credentials: true <html> <head><title>405 Not Allowed</title></head> <body bgcolor="white"> <center><h1>405 Not Allowed</h1></center> <hr><center>nginx</center> </body> </html> and i tried with an external tester: HERE Any ideas? thanks

Warning, simplified english. 1. My Goal 2. Hardware 3. Unusual software to achieve the goal. 1. Goal is watch my favorite British TVseries whenever and everywhere i want to. 2. Hardware is: old 775 socket system. Some core quad CPU, 1Gb DDR2 ram, 320 Gb HDD. This build need more ram. Cpu seems a little bit overpowered for this build. All parts are gifts from my old friends PC's. 3. Software. Most interesting part. I did not use any of NAS operating systems or specific software. 3.1 Operating system is windows 10 3.2 web platform is XAMPP So, after fresh windows insatllation and XAMPP insatllation i've done: Basic XAMPP configuration (SQL passwords, new database, etc) Install latest wordpress version So, i've got a ordinary web server what i done next? Upload all episodes through wordpress control panel as mediafiles organize all 70 episodes (place them on web pages) make some routing in my router, so web server can been seen in internet buy domain name buy static ip adress from my ISP Associate my ip adress with domain And this is how i reach my goal. Now i can watch my favorite British TVseries from every device and litrally everywhere. q and a How does my server performs when start stream video? Most of time nice. 30 seconds cache and then no freeze, no lag. How many devices can connect to stream video? Up to 5. Can I show this website? No because is illegal to stream BBC TV content. Sorry it is only for me. What is budget? All for free, no money wasted. Thank you for reading.

As stated in the title I was wanting to know how to setup a HTTP server. My main questions are: What programs do I use to setup the server? What operating system should I run on the server? I need the server to support php and sql. These are my only requirements I have. Thanks for the help in advance.

Hi, I have a VPS server that I am trying to install a symfony project on. The Operating System is CentOS 6.9 (Final) I have Plesk Onyx 17.0.17 installed. The PHP version that I need for the project that I am installing is 7.1.4 but my PHP CLI version is 5.3.3. I have tried to use the # /opt/plesk/php/7.0/bin/php yourscript.php command like suggested from Plesk Forums but it doesn't work with commands such as composer install. Does anyone have the instructions on changing the default PHP Version for cli on my OS Thanks

Looking to create a web server with an laptop running win10
Guest posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
So whats the most secure and best way for me to run a webserver on my laptop that can do python,php,html5. I heard about apache and nginx and IIS. If i need to change operating systems i can also do that. Just recommend the most secure and best OS for a web server. I will be hosting it myself. -
Hey Guys, my name is Jonas. This is my first post here so please be gentle. I want to build a machine that combines a local NAS with a small server for teamspeak, a simple webserver and possibly later owncloud or similar. The main features of that machine should be around 24TB of usable and safe storage (i thought of a raid 5 already), being very compact and as quiet as possible when using HDDs. I am from germany, so for parts recommendations please use german prices. The CPU cooler should be from Noctuah, since i love their company. Overall Price tag should be as low as possible with a maximum of 2300€. Here in short form: 1 machine with NAS and Web- and Teamspeakserver capabilities 24TB Usable storage Preferably quiet and compact Thanks for responses Jonas

Is it possible / how could I setup a web server and a gitlab server on a single system and have them share a domain name? Gitlab uses nginx, so could I just setup gitlab and then modify the nginx setting to add the webserver? I would like to have something like www.website.com would be the webserver and then www.website.com/gitlab would be the gitlab server.

I watch linustecktip whenever I can. I wanted to ask linus a question but this is the best next to thing to doing that: SHORT VESION: Having 12 virtual machine setup to receive video stream to record and stream out to a website to be viewed by others that can communicate with each other through a chat room that is control by a server machine... I repeated it so many times I can put it in one line of sentence now lol. or have a machine that is a super computer and a server in one with swap out hot drive and raid3-6 support. from my research an i7 with 4 core or more with hyper threading plus 36gb of ram can run to my ideal up to 4-6 with good performance, all of this runing as many Ubuntu/CentOS/Debian versions/instances under HyperV. I like a system that comes with hot swap drives and raid2-6 for data lose concern to my who system not just my database but my whole system itself to backup(is that possible?). This is why I also ask for a server machine to connect to it too unless the system is a power computer and a server machine with hot swap and raid6 for data concern lose. The hard drive should be a ssd 1Tb of space and with the ability expand for more space by adding up to 6 additional drive of each being any size of gb up to 1tb each, giving me 7tb of space... and compact that can fit in a closet. I came across this: https://www.abmx.com/workstation-intel something like the above link... but a little cheaper. like a thousand or under. LONG VERSION: I'm looking for a machine that I can easily expand that comes with a few things already and is not to expensive. What I'm aiming to do: Creating a server, web server, and database server control from one access point. I like to be able to have a hardware machine powerful enough to be able to run: 12 screen streaming and recording happening at the same time 4 server running taking in request and dishing out responses(include the job of the servers also running single message and group message room) 12 browsers to view the result Running for a total of 12 to 16 hours a day so let just say 24 to make sure we over estimate to be on the safe side Data storage capacity to handle storage of that much data in a year. I think something similar but not the same would be liveme. What server do they have configure? As I research different server, trying to find a good choice for wanting to run several virtual machine at ones having them display on several screen all can be control by one mouse, screen, and keyboard to where I can move the virtual machine around to any monitor but at the same time each one has it own mouse to program individual if I want. What would you consider is the requirement in what I would need? Little more detail: This is a start up. I like someone to list out what I would need for that tall order. the real start up can just be five screen to display, a machine strong enough to run five virtual machine at the same time smoothly all doing video recording, video streaming, and running a visual application. What I want to do I can do with a simple laptop: setup a web server to run and serve up a website website let you watch one live videos stream. One live video feed is coming in, onto the laptop screen, it is recorded and stream out at the same time. someone go to website look at video live feed and can chat away with others, server handle this too. I can do all of this with one simple latop! Now I want to do it 6-12times with out having to get 6-12computers to do it and have to go between that many or configure all of them to be control by one mouse but still got to go between them to manga them... oh you know what would be a good ideal! If I can just create a bunch of virtual machine to run ubuntu and do the same operation in each one from one machine and also have a server machine connected to it to handle datastorage and web server. Just give me a good machine I can easily configure add the amount of ram and even more if I need too, easily to expand to add the 6-8core processor. Having 12 virtual machine setup to receive video stream to record and stream out to a website to be viewed by others that can communicate with each other through a chat room that is control by a server machine... I repeated it so many times I can put it in one line of sentence now lol. or have a machine that is a super computer and a server in one with swap out hot drive and raid3-6 support. from my research an i7 with 4 core or more with hyper threading plus 36gb of ram can run to my ideal up to 4-6(boost to 6 cause of hyper threading and logic brick black magic) with good performance, all of this runing as many Ubuntu/CentOS/Debian versions/instances under HyperV. So i should be looking to getting an i7 with 4 or more core for better performance with running more than 6 virtual machine at one time. also with different type of virtual software one can use which just to list some that I came across; virtual box, VMWare Player Workstation, Hyper-V, and if you know some more shoot them out. Now I like a system that system to come with hot swap drives and raid2-6 for data lose concern to my who system not just my database but my whole system itself to backup(is that possible). This is why I also ask for a server machine to connect to it too or is that crazy? I still like to get a server machine unless this system is a power computer and a server machine with hot swap and raid6 for data concern lose. I guess the hard drive should be a ssd 1Tb of space and with the ability expand for more space by adding up to 6 additional drive of each being any size of gb up to 1tb each, giving me 7tb of space... and compact that can fit in a closet. I came across this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L1C718W/ref=psdc_13896597011_t3_B07F7HWDXZ and the varies of other product similar to it below. would this do for my use case or something similar? it only have 16ram though. or this https://www.pugetsystems.com/featured/8-Processors-32-Cores-56 ! but they say they don't simply them anymore and beside I couldn't afford that how ever much it was lol. Just like to have a system that I can run 6-12 virtual machine. Again All replies are appreciative!

Hi, I wanted to build a multipurpose server (NAS, webserver, video rendering machine). Is it possible to run all those things on one server? And if so, is this a good server build on which to do so (https://pcpartpicker.com/user/iPC/saved/hZ67WZ)? Also, if you have any OS suggestions, they would be welcome! Thank you so much for your help! Any thoughts/input is greatly appreciated!

Hi all Hopefully someone can help as im lost and not fully understanding whats going on I have a home-lab that i use to try new things out, alot of what I do is overkill for what I need, but it lets me learn and develop (thats what a homelab is for after all) I have a web server with a few websites i host, i installed gitea on it on a separate port, and run it all though haproxy to allow for port remapping based on hostname (give my git server a url that isnt a custom port) and so I can learn load-balancing later on for web and databases It was working fine, until i went to get lets encrypt working via haproxy (no idea if thats what broke it, but thats what I changed most recently ) My haproxy is now saying the git server is unreachable, and cant pass traffic though to it I tried accessing it via its IP and port and it loads fine, so i know the server is responding fine I then read on how haproxy does health checks and found it just pings it and gets a 200OK or other codes back and uses that for its status I did a curl between servers, and got 200OK back for my webserver, but when i put my port in for the git it just sits there waiting I then did a curl from my windows pc to the webserver and got 200 back from the webserver and 302 for the git server my question is, why can my proxy server not get a reply on the git port? and why was it working fine before but stopped working randomly? Can try explain more if needed.

Me and a couple of buddies want to create a tower server for the bunch of us. I'm thinking of the next functions: Storage server DNS server (I've got a static IP) Webserver (I've bought a couple of domains already) The hardware i'm planning to use: Ryzen 7 2700 (2 cores for each function and a spare pair to mess around with) Generic 32GB RAM 550W Seasonic focus plus (80 plus platinum) 3 * 8TB Iron Wolf in RAID 5 (Storage server) 3 * 120 GB mSATA SSD's ( already have 3 random cards laying around) Mobo not chosen yet My questions: Should I choose an expensive mobo with most of the needed functions built in or a basic mobo and buy expansion cards (RAID card for HDD's, M.2 SSDs converter)? Should I make 1 huge server with all functionalities baked in or use virtual servers? Any ideas on how I could allocate the SSDs? Is there any way to add new disks to a RAID to expand it without specialized hardware? Extra info: I know I could just buy an older xeon like an E5-2670 v2, but finding the right motherboard is a pain in the derrière Rack mounting is not an option yet. We don't have the space for it At the moment nothing's really mission critical so I don't think we need ECC RAM My budget is €1650 max I've got some basic experience with Windows Server 2012

I'm looking to change webhosts for one of the businesses I help manage. A little about the website: - wordpress (might go plain html in the future, but that's where we are at) - no e-commerce (at least right now) - uptime is important - 90% Canadian traffic, 9% USA. - page speed is important - a fair number of pictures that won't change, will stay up for at max 3-4 months - NOT a DIY home-based server - host one main domain, but hosting for a few (3-4) would be beneficial For analytics for the past year - 300,000 visitors - 2,800,000 pages served - 4 minute duration - People might visit now and again. Not heavy traffic like a forum. Right now we are with Digital Ocean, but I've found more often than not they are having server issues and the website is inaccessible. When it is accessed, time to request the page is slower compared to other servers (with smaller sites) I have been a part of. Any suggestions for what type of specs we should be looking at, or which provider you might recommend and why? Thanks!

Hi, I would like to have a Linux web server run redundantly. I did research, but that was nothing. My question was whether there is someone who has experience with this and wants to give me some information. It is a Ubuntu server on which a website must run. For this website I also need a database, which must also be redundant. Thank you!

Built my gaming rig 2 years ago and now I'm at an impass. I very rarely even use my gaming rig nowadays since after completing it, friends and family have popped up out of nowhere needing a laptop/phone/console/network repairs or rebuilds. All of this knowledge I've been gaining has me wanting to take steps towards starting a tech setup/repair/maintenance company in the future. There are a few things I could use some of this knowledgeable forum's members help with. 1. Where and how would be the best way to go about getting my A+ certifications? 2. What PC/Network/Nas/Servers/Webserver system builds should I start working towards building for starting the business from home? (with 10GbE connectivity in mind) 3. I've compiled a fair amount of parts already, which devices do I have most of the required parts for and which should go where? I listed almost all of the parts under my PC build, I also have a Netgear Nighthawk x8 and XR500. I plan on paying my ISP to lay the fiber line to my home from the node once I get everything set and start my LLC. Thanks in advance and appreciate the help!

I want to build my own server to host my project! Becouse i just got fiber optics in my office I tought about a Xeon Cpu, at least 32gb of ram for caching, ssd and some hdd for backups. The server will use a lot of SQL queries. I'm hoping to host at least 15 magento websites. Can you help me out figouring out the rigth hardware components? The budget for the build is about 1000-1400€, and I'm in Italy! That's it! Thanks a lot

So we have two webservers on our one static ip. The first webserver is a clock-in machine and its important that employees can remotely clock in (we are pushing a domain to that). The second is a synology nas running webstation with an apache 2.4 server aswell. We want to use the NAS to host our own websites. The issue is that there are only two ports 80; 443. The clock in machine uses port 80; but we need our websites to be able to be on 80 and 443. I know a simple solution is put the websites just on port 443, but we dont want people to have to type https:// before out website and if they don't type that it will redirect them to the clock-in machine. Now there is the reverse of that; the clock-in machine on 443 and our websites only on port 80. This actually does work but employees were freaking out because they would get a not secure error (the clock-in machine wont allow for ssl encryption certificates to be installed); they would just have to push "advance to site" but its not ideal. And with that setup; if people tried to access out sites through https:// they would hit the time clock. The issue is the time-clock is a trash web server with extremely limited abilities; you cant even put it on a custom port; 80 or 443 only! I tried doing a domain redirect with apache to an internal ip (where the time-clock is), but I know that would never work externally. I work with a lot of very non techy people so solutions like just use https or a vpn is just way to complicated. The perfect setup would be a simple domain to clock in externally. And our other domains would redirect to our NAS sites... but it's not a perfect world haha. If anyone has a solution you would be my life saver!! If there is not solution then the time-clock will probably go back to 443. Is there anyway to redirect an external domain to an internal ip, without pushing external nat to that ip?? For reference sake we have a NSA 2600 (sonicwall) firewall. And the way I had it was external access through port 80 to the NAS IP; then external access through port 443 to the time-clock internal IP. Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, I am running a file share server with my friends and my upload speeds are very slow. Yes yes i know that the isps have more downstream channels and less upstream. Is there a isp that gives you "symmetrical" internet.

Issue: When I switched ISPs my website isn’t visible online anymore even after changing my IP and port forwarding. Givens: Using a linux mint webserver at home Using a free domain name from afraid.org Using apache server Using Lets Encrypt to get my HTTPS on WAS using Spectrum internet (cable) with my Netgear wnr2000v3 (n300) router NOW using Greenlight internet (fiber) with my new Netgear 7000 (ac1900) router My website works over my LAN network but isn’t visible online I’m new at this and I’m guessing (and hoping) its only a couple of small steps to figure out. Thanks! John
