I know the answer is: it depends... BUT can I gauge some idea of the hardware demands associated with web hosting, is this a 4, 6 or more core CPU job? Most likely its a Word Press site, I want to change from Wix to improve my sites performance So I want to make sure I'm not bottlenecked by hardware while trying to achieve peak porformance Website is fairly basic with 6 pages, mostly loading images which I have already compressed. And a few applications like IG feed, forms and store. Users would be quite low Just want to understand the hardware demands before building this server rig Other dockers on Unraid server are nextcloud, jellyfin, paperless and Windows VM

So I've gone down this 3 hour rabbit hole and now at my wits end. So let me start at the beginning... I decided I wanted to set up a vpn, I created a nord account. Then I set off to get it working on my PC, I saw that you can make your router run off of the vpn-- so that became my plan. "can not resolve host name" well asus says it's free and maybe I need to brute force the host name. *20 purposeful tries and another 30 random bs, still nothing. Ok I'll use google and buy a domain of them, easy. After spending the $12 I think I can now use sites.google.com to host my website that I made for shits and giggles. Nope... Ok I'll try google cloud, *set up 90 day free trial* ok now I can do the website thing? No... now I have to figure out which service and how to do such, some of them need to go to a different website and create an account there. "Ok maybe I'll try AWS" oh... I have no idea what I'm doing. Anyway, wanted to share. Now I'm down 40 dollars and all I have to show for it is a special email YAY! a good use of time. now time for me to figure out how to do the vpn thing normal.

Hello everyone. So I didn't realise that when i backed up my DB's and my files that cPanel on my new server wouldn't detect everything and just work. That said, now I am sitting here wondering how to easily port all my old addresses and DNS zones over. If anyone can show me the way, please.. And thank you.

HI, I'd like to build a server to host multiple webs and at the same time a CSS server. Budget version would be kinda nice, but I'm willing to pay. Internet access isn't problem I can get up to 300/300Mb/s internet. The internet access would be just for this little fella. I'd want to host like 3 public webs with relatively low to medium traffic and a CSS server for me and my friends. Is for example this setup alright? so I was trying to host my website from home on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, but I couldn't so I bought web hosting and the website is working now, the only problem is that I was trying to set up the domain name in apache server, I really didn't know what I was doing I was just following some tutorial online, and I set ServerName to mydomain.com in the .conf file. I removed the .conf file of the domain (virtual host) from /etc/apache/sites-enabled and /etc/apache/sites-available and I did sudo a2dissite mydomain.com.conf but still whenever I visit the website through this machine it gives me the Apche2 Ubuntu default page, so what can I do to revert this?

I would like to build a home sever rack for hosting websites as, well as game severs, like minecraft, with a 100+ people on any given game sever. I would like to keep the budget around $1500 but I don't know what to buy. Any help?

I'm looking to change webhosts for one of the businesses I help manage. A little about the website: - wordpress (might go plain html in the future, but that's where we are at) - no e-commerce (at least right now) - uptime is important - 90% Canadian traffic, 9% USA. - page speed is important - a fair number of pictures that won't change, will stay up for at max 3-4 months - NOT a DIY home-based server - host one main domain, but hosting for a few (3-4) would be beneficial For analytics for the past year - 300,000 visitors - 2,800,000 pages served - 4 minute duration - People might visit now and again. Not heavy traffic like a forum. Right now we are with Digital Ocean, but I've found more often than not they are having server issues and the website is inaccessible. When it is accessed, time to request the page is slower compared to other servers (with smaller sites) I have been a part of. Any suggestions for what type of specs we should be looking at, or which provider you might recommend and why? Thanks!

I have a ubuntu(linux) server and I want to host a website on it. I dont know how and why. Hopefully one of you guys know how. The server specs are some random 6core xeon 12gb ram and enough(!) storage.

I'm currently trying to find the best alternative to hosting a website. This is Primarily for Web Development Currently my website is hosted on GoDaddy. I'm trying to find a cheap alternative to host the site, I do web design work also and I need the best flexibility without getting easlly hacked. I had three ideas in mind #1 Move my site from GoDaddy to another host like Hostgator. #2 Second option is to get a small 2 bay NAS and host the site from there such as a Qnap or a Synology. #3 Third option get a Raspberry Pi 4 with 1 or 2 GB ram then host the site on there and port forward it though my internet to the web host. (I know how to set this up but do not know how stable it will be for small business websites like wordpress and joomla. Bad Part with this is that the connection will not be stable if my internet gets shuts off due to power outages. I need a cost effective method that will last a long time and be somewhat secure. I have had problems in the past by getting my sites hacked with free web domains. I plan on using this for working on websites for other people people as well as my own personal website Any Help in me making this decision I would really appreciate it !!!

I am trying to make a website for my Twitch, YouTube, blog, etc. I am fine with hosting since I do have some extra hardware laying around that could work. Nothing servergrade but if I wanted to do that I think I would buy some old LGA 771 boards and get rolling. I do like the simplicity of squarespace but I had heard that Wordpress was free. I have some minor experience with JavaScript so I think I t wouldn't be too bad building it myself. I'll probably refresh myself by heading over to codecadamy to breeze through a course. Any thoughts?

so my sister has been given a job creating and updating (and breaking ) the company website for the people she works for. and the amount of money they are paying for web-hosting is out of this world, $140 for a 2GB vps and a 100GB network cap. we are thinking of moving to linode.com or digitalocean.com but i think it might have some fun. can anybody find anything good about our current webhost http://www.tummy.com/hosting/virtual.html just you at the amount they are charging for basic a vps. any recommendations for good vps providers is also welcome
