I Have a lab learning environment learning about Windows Deployments Currently Testing a Network boot from a Gen 2 VM. Get the usual error screen that the VM cannot load an image after the initial network boot. Some background info: DC, DHCP are on same server and subnet. WDS and MDT are on same server and same subnet. The network boot process gets a IP station IP: from a pool of 10 IPs then proceeds load the nbp file from the wds server. Then get the screen after 30 secs cannot load an image Some extra info: No dhcp option 67,60 are set Wds is authorised in AD Generated at litetouchpex64 mdt image and added to wds as a boot image If I set dhcp options and point to the Wim / server it works no problem as a Gen 1 VM Any pointers I can get the Gen 2 vm to network boot?

Hi, So what I am looking for is a WDS alternative that could run on my linux server (Ubuntu server 20.04) that would allow me to bassicly boot over network to clone a ISO to the computer im booting with and that would work for any type of iso's. I dont need anything too deep I would simply use this as a way of having a backup of my base install of my laptop and/or desktop install so that if anything happens I can restore a base image that has all of my basic configs done and everything that I dont want already turned off. I would like the software to be able to run alongside everything on my server so either in a docker container or in a vm idc. Thanks in advance for any proposition.

Hello everyone! I have a TrueNAS Server with a Windows Server 2022 VM installed on it that runs WDS. I made a fresh install of Windows 11 21H2 on my main PC (on a secondary SSD) so that I can install some software and make it into a custom Windows image for WDS using Audit Mode and then DISM in Windows PE (Windows 11 Installer). My problem is, when my fresh VM starts up after Windows has been installed it always gives me the OOBEREGION error after I select my region, this goes on until the username screen, that's where I can't skip the error anymore, I also tried to install the same image on my father's laptop using a spare SSD that I had laying around. Any sugestions on how to fix the custom image so that it works properly? Thanks! btw, I've (mostly) used this tutorial: https://theitbros.com/sysprep-windows-machine/

HI, i am attempting to deploy an operating system image to a laptop and while attempting to boot to my MDT server the WDS download is taking a very long time and i checked another computer and it is not having the same problem. usually it is getting stuck on the TFTP Download and i have checked the TFTp Max Download size and a bunch of other just and nothing gets this laptop to download the thing faster. all my other computers boot at normal speeds on the WDS Server but the laptop is taking forever. i have also rebooted the server and that did nothing. Any suggestions?

Hey guys, I posted a few post on a project I'm working on being a WDS Server for work. Currently I have the WDS server working perfectly and everything's ready to go. However After grabbing our out of box image OOBE for some reason windows installer is saying it cannot be used due to the partition being to small for the install image. It is saying it needs at least 954638mb Partition. All other normal partitions are 1gb smaller then required. Why would that be? Its the same type of drive by the same manufacturer. I'm at a loss of why that would be. One reason I'm fearing is that this image to begin with was being deployed with a CloneZilla server and I'm fearing maybe the imaging system makes it abit to large for windows to recognize even when converted to NTFS and GPT. Everything worked in virtual testing but physical I'm still having this issue. Any comments will help, thank you in advanced.

Hey all, Im back with more WDS Woes and Im sure youre all getting tired of it (just like I am). Anyways Everything is working hunky dorey however Im running into an issue where I cannot capture the image directly to the WDS Server. The error Im getting is Supplied Kernal Information version is invalid. This wouldnt be an issue but this server is being moved off my desk and into a datacenter next door and I dont really want another share floating around the network. I tried the WIM file with windows 10 and window server 2016 and nothing has worked. Googling has come up with nothing either. Any ideas?

Hey everyone Hope you are all having a good Friday and happy 10 years LTT I am hoping that I can get some insight on a windows deployment server issue I am seeing. The company I work for has a deployment server onsite so that we can image new PCs The issue is I am seeing is I am able to get the new PC to boot to the server. It loads the file and then opens up windows deployment services, but before the window opens up so that I can start a deployment the PC reboots. Out of the close to 50ish computers (laptops and desktops) I have only had this happen 2 times. So it isn't a common issue but still a problem that I would like to know how to correct and prevent if it is a workflow issue which I am doubtful of. The PCs are Lenovo T480's and Lenovo M710's.

Hey, sorry couldn't find a better name for the title. I'm looking for a Deployment Service, similar to WDS to deploy an Windows 10 image to multiple Workstations. I know that WDS is a usable solution, but with many different applications some device need I don't want to build an new Boot image for 10 different versions, everytime some 3rd Party publishes a update for the program. So do you guys know a usable solution, that reduces the current workload I have on this? Because at the moment we have to install every device manually, uninstall this annoying bloatware Microsoft and the manufactures put into windows 10 and install every god damn software that is needed. (using Ninite to reduce some install time with install chrome, firefox and some other stufff at once)

Are there anyone here who has a simple PXE OS deployment at home? I have a lot of experience with MDT, since its what I use at work. I recently found out that my synology NAS supports PXE image deployment, so all I need is a tool like MDT thats free and doesnt require any windows server to configure the images. It doesnt even need to be any fancy. All I want it to do is capture a reference image with preinstalled softwares. Drivers I'll install manually. I know about clonezilla, but are there other better alternatives?

I apologize in advance for the wall of text in front of you. So, I've spent the last few weeks configuring and testing Windows Deployment Services and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit on an install of Server 2012 R2. This is used to image computers that we give out as donations to students at our college through a raffle. I have a laundry list of issues that have been popping up here and there. I have solved a good number of them with some lucky guessing and a lot of them with good old google.com. I've still got a few that I could really use a hand with however; Application Installation We install Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, Google Chrome, MalwareBytes, Mozilla Firefox, and LibreOffice on all computers. So far, Chrome, MalwareBytes, and Firefox install silently without a hitch. Adobe Reader installs, but the end screen still appears requiring me to click 'finish'. Ive tried /silent, /passive, and /sAll as suggested in an adobe forum question, and none have worked. Deployment continues fine after clicking finish LibreOffice refuses to install. /silent and /passive do not work. It will not even open the installer, it just says 'failed, returned with error code 2 or something similar. Cannot remember exactly. Driver Installation Most of the computers we give out are supplied to us by the college. All the same model (HP Compaq DC7900). Windows gets all of the drivers installed itself except for the audio driver. Even going into device manager and forcing it to look for a driver, it wont install one. So we use the Windows 7 driver off of HP's website. Works just fine. So how can i add this driver into the deployment task sequence? I assume its more than just throwing the .exe in a folder. Skip Deployment Settings I would like MDT to skip certain items during the pre-deployment process. For example, we never enable bitlocker, so it would be nice to just never have to see that screen and have it always set to "do not enable bit locker by default. Another good example would be region settings. They are always going to be English, and Eastern Standard Time. I would like to just be able to skip these screens and have it set to the defaults i want. Skip domain login Everytime we image a computer, it asks for a domain login (username, password, domain). Can i set it up so it will automatically login with a certain account and skip the dialogue? Or just a way to skip the dialogue entirely? Windows Update Rather than constantly updating my boot image, I would like Windows to get some updates during the deployment. I see 2 disabled tasks in the task sequence. Windows Update (Pre-Application Installation) and Windows Update (Post-Application Installation) Is one of these preferable? Is there any issue/disadvantage to just enabling them both (They are disabled by default) Changing default programs I have no idea how i would go about this through deployment, but i would like chrome to be set as the default browser, pinned to the taskbar, and edge removed from the taskbar. I would also like adobe reader to be set as the default pdf viewer instead of edge/chrome. Disabling built-in administrator We create a generic account on the computers named "User" with administrator privileges and no password. I currently run two scripts in the custom tasks in my task sequence to do so AddUser.cmd @echo off net user User /add net localgroup Administrators User /add AdminDisable.cmd @echo off net user administrator /active:no These run at the end of deployment. After the deployment finishes we manually reboot the computer and the administrator account disappears. It works, and I don't mind it being what we need. But if there are any other ways I could do this I'm open to them These are my main issues as of now. Any and all help would be super amazing! Thanks, Ken

Sup guys, i've spent the last day creating a deployment image for my new WDS "Wensleydale" and Sysprep is going to make me kill someone. I have been given a WDS, with a VL windows 10 image on it I've put that base image onto a machine from my fleet, and proceeded to do my job, and make it hirable as a video playback/control PC. The first time i did it, the OS was imaged over, booted fine and got to desktop, i then gave it the ninite, and some other handy things. Then after reboot it decided to forget all it's drivers, and windows update was reporting they were all installed and PC was up to date, though devmgmt was clearly angry. Started again 2nd time at desktop after cloning, install all programs one at a time from respective websites, run ccleaner and reboot. Loses activation, can't fix it, above my head, the linux guy couldnt figure it out either. 3rd time at desktop, i got the image perfect, all programs installed, all settings spot on, everything licensed, go to sysprep, and it fails with error relating to corrupt registry and inaccessible driver files sitting in an intel folder on the root of C, which are there, but the permissions are fucked. It's my first day with WDS and i'm slowly working it out. But i can't for the life of me work out why Sysprep won't run, i cant capture that perfect image until it has shut down after sysprep Thanks

Hi, really hope there’s an answer to my bugging question, even if it’s ‘cant be done’. Basically I have recently learned how to bridge my 2 routers together to create a fluid and strong range of WiFi around my home. However I have encountered a few issues and I’m not entirely sure if they are to be expected? My setup consists of... Modem - Belkin router (which feeds a few different sources such as; a 16 port eithernet switch and 2 face plates upstairs) - upstairs TP-Link C7 router (as an access point bridges to the Belkin Router) - this access point via lan then feeds my Xbox and PC. Now the range for my WiFi is absolutely superb. Although the speeds are up and down. If I disconnect and reconnect to the WiFi, I get download speeds of 70mbs-90mbs, however after a while these speeds can drop as low as 8mbs and then can decide to jump up again. When I had both routers setup individually I never had any issues with speed. My PC download speeds are absolutely fine, I get 220mbs every single time (I pay for 200mbs broadband). However my Xbox latency seems to have increased from around 25ms-32ms to 32ms-40ms, and the download speeds have dropped to 15mbs-60mbs. Now when I first set this up I get speeds of 220mbs but they decline and I end up back with low speeds again, until I factory reset and set the system back up again. Prior to bridging my two routers together, the PC and Xbox were connected to a switch from a face plate and this gave them both constant speeds of 220mbs. My questions are; Why is my wired speed so slow to my Xbox? Why are the WiFi download speeds so indifferent? Is this too be expected when bridging routers together? Am I missing something here? I’m sorry for the very long winded question but I hope I have provided all the information I can. I wluld massively appreciate some help on this. Tom.

Okay, so im trying to figure out how to implement Windows Updates into my image's in WDS. Or something of the sort. So that the images will always have the latest updates without me doing anything to them. Or perhaps i can setup a wsus and do something with like sccm or something so that when i deploy the image it will download the updates automatic from my wsus and that will have the same effect? Any idea is great!

Hi , this is my first Post here on this awesome forum my problem is that am trying to connect three routers together via WDS the first one that is connected to the internet is tp link TL-Wr740N and i have another one the same model , the third one is TD-W8951ND am trying to use the last two as repeaters as i searched online it is possible so i installed the TD-W8951ND in the middle i think it is the only one that can access two WDS connection At the same time all worked up well , the three routers talk to each other , tested with ping command , and i can enter the settings of all the routers using one PC the only problem , there is no internet not via the middle router and not via the last one DHCP is enabled only on the main router , the IP's of the routers are different (192.168.1.1 ,192.168.1.2 , 192.168.1.3) i can't define where is the problem , my guess is DNS Settings but i am not sure what to do with those please help me am trying to do this for 8 hours now and yeah , sorry for my English Thanks

I have been struggling with a networking issue the past few days. I am trying to configure two routers in my house, one as a root router and the other a bridge. I configured the root router (a linksys EA4500 or something like that) and it worked fine (its IP is 192.168.1.1) and then I configured a bridge router on a tp link single band router by changing its IP to 192.168.1.2, naming it a different wireless SSID, and I made sure both routers were on channel 5 (the best for me). After all that I enabled WDS bridging, and connected to my root router. After that rebooted I disabled DHCP on the bridge router, and still no luck. The thing actually worked for a brief time the other day, then eventually it stopped. Also for some reason now I am having trouble connecting to the wireless on the bridge router at all, and when I hardwire in and ping the root router I get destination host unreachable. Not sure what to do if you have any ideas that would be awesome thanks!

Hey guys I'm having some trouble to combine WDS and WSUS to deploy a fully updated windows 7 image, from a windows 2012 r2 server. I have WAIK installed, and have tried to use deployment workbench to do this, but couldn't get it to work. Anyone here knows how to do this? Can I make an answer file that could do it? I would love some guidance here. BTW this is for work use, so please no funny stuff

Hello, I require help with the following, I need to roll out windows 8.1 pro using WDS ( Windows deployment server), however everytime I install windows 8.1 pro using WDS I do have get the screen for settings and creating a microsoft or local account, My question is, is there anyway to remove the settings and the create an account screen since users are logging into a Windows domain anyway, in short I want to make it so that users only get a screen to log in with their AD account when they receive a new machine. Thanks for reading and help in advance. Aurrorax
