Hi everybody, I have recently done some upgrades on my old gaming system. I have upgraded my CPU from a AMD Ryzen 5 2600 to a Ryzen 7 5700x and my ram from 16gb to a 32gb kit. I have upgraded from a WD blue SN550 1tb NVMe to a WD black SN850x 1tb NVMe drive. My plan was to reuse the old SN550 with a PCIe adapter card in my motherboard's lower 16x PCIe 2.0 slot as games storage. But for some unknown reason the SN850x is not recognised by the motherboard. Obviously the SN850x is a PCIe 4.0 card but my MSI B450 Tomahawk Max ii only supports speeds up to PCIe 3.0 my understanding is that this should not be an issue as PCIe is backwards compatible. At first I thought the SSD was DOA but if I swap the SSDs over and put the SN550 back in the M.2 slot and the SN850x in the PCIe adapter both drives are recognised. I have the latest BIOS (7C02vHB) installed on my motherboard and have reseated all of the components including the motherboard power connectors multiple times and have reflashed the bios and cleared the CMOS to no avail. I've tried playing with the PCIe settings and ran the system in CSM mode and have generally done what everybody suggests online. Does anybody have any bright ideas? The system is working fine in its current configuration but I wanted to use the SN850x as a boot drive due to its Dram cache, plus even running at PCIe 3.0 speeds it should be twice as fast as the SN550 but it's not while running at PCIe 2.0 speeds off the chipset in an adapter card lol Thank you in advance

Hii guys.. I just put a Western Digital Black SN750 in my gaming laptop (Hp Omen 15 en0013ax) as a working drive when I'm playing games, editing photos and video, the problem is all the reviews on the online shop telling the read and write speed reach 3000+ MB/s, and I'm not getting the speeds like others. It's still the same speed as my old ssd (which around 1600-1800 Mb/s). Am I doing something wrong? Drive is installed in the NVMe slot of my laptop. It should be getting read speeds of around 3000+ MB/s but CrystalDiskMark (version 7-8) is only indicating around 1700-1864 MB/s, not event reach 2k+ MB/s, Is it because WD Black I got defect or Its because my laptop? below is comparison disk C is old SSD and disk D is new Kindly help with this problem, Thanks in advanced

hi, i recently built my PC and everything works perfectly fine, but then whenever i turn on the PC, it doesn't immediately boots into Windows, but into Post / BIOS, then noticed that the NVMe is not detected. So i have to manually go through the EZ Mode and go into the Drive to able to use the PC, everything works perfectly, the drive is detected in Windows, but not on the BIOS. In addition, I've tried resetting CMOS, reinstalling Windows with (3 different USB) x3, unscrewing and adjusting the NVMe 4 times (even putting it in the 2nd slot), and there is no other Drives in this PC, so this drive is the only Boot Priority as #1. Can someone please help or know how to fix this solution? Thank You (also this is frustrating, cause everything works perfectly, but it doesn't boot Windows sadly) FULL SPECS: Ryzen 9 5950x 3080 Founder Edition x570 ASUS Dark Hero VIII Trident Z Neo WN_Sn850 1TB

Anyone know of any differences between these two WD Black 8TB HDDs? The specs look identical and I suspect it may just be a change in branding or internal model numbers, but with Prime Day there is a big difference in price. - WDBSLA0080HNC-WRSN - WD8001FZBX

Hey! I'm looking to build a new PC. I will be using a 240GB SSD, and a 1TB HDD, the two I am looking at is the WD Black 1TB & Blue 1TB. I've done some research and found out that the WD Blue 1TB is about the same as the WD Black 1TB, but the Blue is $20 cheaper. I've also heard that the Black is more reliable. Out of the two, which one would you guys suggest?

So today I decided that I need a new Storage device because my WD Blue 1 tb Drive is full. At the Retailer of my trust (more or less, didn't want to wait for delivery so I went to "Media Markt") I wanted to buy a WD Blue 2 tb drive. But examining the packaging I read something about the WD Black being optimized for gaming, at least that's what they are marketed for in Germany. The problem is that i pay almost double for a WD Black 1tb instead of 2tb WD Blue storage. So my question is: How significant, if at all, is the difference between a WD Blue and a WD Black, and where are the differences? Sincerely heulboje21/Paul G PS: I hope my english was bearable...

I was planning on buying the WD Black 1tb hdd. Reviews on Newegg.ca are showing lot of recent purchasers drives have been failing after few months of usage. Is this just the luck of the silicon draw? Should I consider something from Seagate that is the equivalent of a WD Black series?

I want to buy 2x1 To HDD to put in RAID 0 to have a good volum and good speed. The thing is, I don't know if I should buy 2 WD bleu HDD, or invest a bit more money to get 2 WD black HDD. Is there a big difference of performence between the two? Both 1 To and 7200rmp. Thx for your help

So I am just putting together a list of parts for fun for a future build I may do, and I was looking for a long term storage option (at least 2TB) other than the SSD for the OS. I looked at the WD Black because of the great performance, but then a few lines down, I see the same amount of storage on a Seagate Barracuda for half the price! What exactly is the difference that makes the WD Black so much more expensive? Is the extra price worth it?

Hi all, I have 2 main questions regarding the storage solutions for my new PC build. What I have right now: 1 x OZS M.2 SSD - NVMe (256GB) - wasn't planning on buying this initially but picked up one cheap on amazon. 1 x Crucial MX-100 SSD - Sata (512GB) - this I have already for my current PC, and intend to keep for the new one. What I still need to get: 1 x WD HDD 2TB Since the HDD would be pretty much only for storage purposes, and viewing media files etc, would anybody here recommend getting a WD Red drive? Advantages seem to be running cooler, vibration dampening, ability to run in a Raid system (not sure I will do that anyway though) and quiet operation. Disadvantage would seem to be the TLER function - but how much of a disadvantage is this really for everyday operation? WD Black seems a bit overkill since all my programs, games and OS should run off the 2 SSD's WD Blue would be the other option, but if blue, would you then recommend 2 x 1TB 7200rpm drives, or 1 x 2TB 5400rpm drive? Reading up the 5400rpm ones are the old WD Green standard I believe. So if its pretty much a WD Green, why not go for the Red instead. Regarding the SSD's; Would it be better to use the NVMe SSD (256gb) for games installs, and larger programs, and run the OS off the Sata (512gb) SSD? Or run the OS from the NVMe device, along with a couple of the more intensive games? How much does it really make a difference if you would run the OS from a Sata or NVMe drive in the end?

I'm in the process of putting together a build in a Mastercase Pro 5, which has 5 HDD bays and 2 SSD bays. I'm currently looking at 1 Samsung 850 Evo 500gb and 2 WD Black 2tb. and 4tbs of high-performance hard drive storage seems a little extreme. so would 1 WD Black 2tb and 1 WD Blue 4tb be better? I'm going to be recording almost all of my gaming sessions in CSGO and Overwatch

Hello, I'm building my first pc, this is what I have (I' ll overclock): -MSI z370 gaming pro carbon -Intel I7 8700k (delid) -Asus RTX 2080 Dual OC -BitFenix whisper M 650W -2x 3TB 7200rpm HDD in RAID 1 (so my data it's safe) I want to get of course a NVME SSD as my primary (OS) drive. I'm going to do mainly gaming, once in a while video editing of like my travels or other small projects, some photoshop and then basic pc usage. 500GB should be fine since I have the 3TB HDD, but Intel 660P slows down a lot when it's getting full and the 1TB is almost the same price as the 500GB version of the other two. These are the prices in Italy: -970 EVO 1TB: 209€ -970 EVO Plus 500GB: 120€ -970 EVO Plus 1TB: 222€ -970 PRO 512GB: 147€ -WD Black NVMe SSD 500GB: 106€ -Intel SSD 660P 512 GB: 75€ -Intel SSD 660P 1TB: 121€ Which one is better: the 1TB 660p or 500GB WD or 970 EVO Plus? What should I do? Thanks for the help!

Hello, I recently had to move GTA V to my HDD (F:) from my SSD (C:), due to not having enough space for the giant game. The game ran perfectly fine on the SSD, but now I'm experiencing constant around 1 second mini freezes (1-5 right after another) at seemingly random times. Though, it seems to happen most often in crowded city areas, but it does also happen in remote places. Computer specs below: CPU: i7-4770K GPU: GTX 750 Ti RAM: HyperX 2 x 8GB DDR3 SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SATA III 250GB HDD: WD Black 2TB Internal 7200RPM 3.5" MB: Asus Z97-A Changing all of the graphic settings to the lowest doesn't seem to make any difference. Disabling V-Sync and all AA doesn't help either. Here are some things I've tried to fix this: Re-installing the game Using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic Software to do a Quick (SMART) and Extended Test, both passed. Defragging the drive Disabling Windows' Balanced Power Plan Updated GPU drives Below is a screenshot from a GTA V becnhamrk test, notice the minimun fps in Pass 3 & 4: The fact that the game is having these freezes on a WD Black makes this even more perplexing for me. With my limited knowledge, I have no idea what to try next. Suggestions?

I am wondering why my WD Black 2.5inch hard driv makes a loud beep when shutting down or put Windows7 to sleep mode(using it in a desktop, I know a 3.5 would be better in many ways but I got that 500GB drive new for just 20-30USD). It is likely due to Hard Drive detected low power. Should I be concerned with my drive's longevity and data integrity? And if I should fix it, how?? (I am running a EVGA 600W power supply to feed a ssd, that hard drive, a Q9550 and a GTX 570, power wise should be more than enough. I suspect the windows cuts power before the HD wanna go to bed but I am unaware anyway to delay windows/motherboard cutting power to the drives...)

Hey, i need help selecting an HDD as my secondary drive as all of my research has been inconclusive between these 2. I have a 500gb WD Blue M.2 as my primary boot drive and i can't decide which should i buy, a Seagate Firecuda 2TB SSHD or a WD BLACK 2 TB HDD. i planning to use either of them for gaming and light office work. I am also going to install INTEL OCTANE M.2 32GB on this secondary drive for boost. There is only a 20$ difference between them Seagate being the cheaper one or should i just go with a regular Barracuda 2TB with 7200rpm. my build is MB : asrock Taichi CPU :I5 8600k Ram: DDR4 2400 rip jaws GPU: gigabyte 1080 g1 primary storage: WD Blue M.2 500 gb Thanks in Advance

So, I'm thinking of doing a build but i've come across a small problem. Either I'm too dumb to find it or it won't work, but I was thinking of buying a ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E motherboard w/ a WD Black M2 NVMe SSD that is 500gb for storage and I can't find anything that indicates that these two are compatible. If they don't, what are some suggestions? PC Part Picker Link: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/HinduGoneWild/saved/Fgt7WZ
