I was just searching for the biggest USB flash stick around and it led me to Corsairs range of USB flash sticks. In particular, two products caught my eye: a military-grade rugged waterproof stick and an ultra-fast one that can achieve up to 440 MB/s read and write speeds and a capacity of up to 1TB. Corsair Flash Survivor Stealth Corsair Flash Voyager GTX I'm kind of a perfectionist and would love to have the best of both worlds - a rugged, waterproof stick I can take out with me on my travels that is also super fast. I have taken apart an old SSD and HDD as well as my old laptop to clean and replace the thermal paste so I figured it must be possible to take apart those two USB drives so I can place the super-fast stick into the other ones rugged chassis. But that leaves me with one question. If I can pull that off, will my new drive be able to retain its waterproofing. Is there a way I can make sure of that or am I definitely going to ruin it?

I'm looking for some pretty good true wireless earbuds that aren't crazy expensive, but I could wear in the shower with no worries. Hell, even just a waterproof rating that would cover that would be helpful.

Hey, guys this is a pc I built a few months back for my old company. I know it’s not what you typically see on the forums but I thought I’d share it. We needed a rugged field test computer for data collection on our lawnmowers, and didn’t want to over-pay something like a toughpad. I am a mechanical engineering student finishing up my Jr year so I offered to combine my passion and trade. My goals were to make a durable element resistant pc of under $1000. Like I said the computer would be on a lawnmower in an incredibly dirty and dusty environment with moderate vibrations. I mounted the motherboard on vibration isolators and attached the pelican case to the mower using another vibration isolation system. I used waterproof cable pass throughs to run the cables to the outside of the case. Since the pc needed to run on a mower it needed to be powered off 12 volts. I thought about getting a 12v pico power supply but found that Opus one I purchased had some delayed shutdown features I wanted to data collection, and it could boot the pc when the mower was turned on. After assembling the pc and mounting it on the chassis I ran a lot of tests on it. I heated the ambient room to 45°C (113°F). After running prime95 max heat test the CPU hit a max temp of 69°C and the max temp inside the case staying at about 52°C. This was a little too warm for my comfort but this test was worst case scenario. I do wish I had the chance to test water-cooling but unfortunately I decided to leave the company before I had the opportunity. I also wasn't sure how AIO liquid cools do with sub 0°C temps. New phones these days are constantly becoming more rugged and water resistant. But the one thing most consumers are currently unaware of is how warranty policies have failed to keep up with modern technology to protect the buyer from product defects. I want to share a short story and in turn would like to know how many of you have had this experience. Being a person who spends a fair amount of time outdoors where situations frequently where the average consumer electronic device would fail, I needed something that would stand up to the environment. So I recently picked up Samsung's top-of-the-line rugged and water resistant phone, the Galaxy s7 Active. Using the phone for a couple of days and enjoying all the features Samsung brings to the table. Day 4 and I am going on a kayaking trip out to a local lake. Nearing the end of the trip I start to remember all the commercials and adverts that Samsung put out showing the amazing capabilities of this device and the ability to take underwater photographs. So I go to try to line up a shot of a lillypad from below. Within seconds of touching the water the phone fails. Extremely disappointed I am at this time with my brand new phone! I do a little self investigation and find that the screen has a little give in it and the device was likely not sealed properly around the bezel. However I have thoughts of relief (much like many people do before using an IP68 rated device in water) "Well the device is advertised and rated as waterproof/water resistant so my warranty will cover it, no worries!"; Though two weeks later after receiving my device back from Samsung I was in for a shock. They did not repair the device or even replace it. After speaking with US customer warranty relations they informed me that under no circumstances will any device that Samsung produces ever be repaired or replaced under warranty if the damage is water related. Even for devices advertised to be water resistant or waterproof!! Here I was with a $700 paper weight that lasted a mere 4 days. Samsung's failure to meet my products marked IP68 rating and failure to right a wrong that was clearly no fault of my own has left me flabbergasted. But it doesn't stop here. Unfortunately in this modern era I need a phone and at this point I would not being pushing more money into the pockets of Samsung. So I began a research product to see how other companies would have handled this situation. It is saddening... Nearly all smartphone manufactures would have screwed me just as hard, Apple, LG, ect... The only company I spoke with where the water damage would have be covered by the manufacturing warranty was Caterpillar (not exactly at the cutting edge of smartphone performance unfortunately) and even the Caterpillar S60, a phone rated to 5 meters in water depth has had many reported failures due to water ingress. IS THERE NO COMPANY that can hold a promise to the IP68 rating and have the decency to back that up with a manufacture warranty?? This is crazy... How many of you have had this experience? I feel until warranty policies change, if using a waterproof or water resistant smartphone in a wet environment this might as well be the cellphone equivalent of Russian Roulette... How can I/we show companies the dissatisfaction in these business practices?

Hey guys! just curious and would love to know ur point of views and a discussion of how extensive is the modern water proofing in smart phones...and also does any one explain exact differences on dust resistance and shock resistance???

So in an attempt to better cool my cpu I've been looking into getting a water cooler. Naturally the one I've decided to get has a ton of great reviews but there are a few bad ones that claimed the cooler leaked. So I figure "better safe than sorry eh?" I should invest in a sealant along side to insure that the worst doesn't happen, The question is which one? There are a ton of different sealants out there but which one would be the best in such a warm and wet location? I think the ideal one should have three things: 1. Waterproof. Obvious really; it wouldn't be much of a sealant if it wasn't. 2. Heat resistant. We don't want it melting. (Also not retaining heat; if it created a hot spot that could be an issue.) 3. Non conductive. Static charges are not cool. Now I hear what your saying; just type waterproof heat resistant sealant on amazon and all your prayers will be answered and really I thank you for your input however that doesn't seem to be the case, there are still quite a few options to choose from. I'd rather not go through the trail and error (especially the error part) of testing each one so where better to ask than the community of that wisest of internet guru's. In conclusion! I don't wish to purchase an inferior sealant so if anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it.

I am looking for a relatively cheap (sub 200$ cad) android device that doesnt have to have cell connectivity and is waterproof. Those are the main criteria and i would consider buying used it it helps me get a better device for the price. An added bonus would be micro sd expansion but this is not a must. Thanks in advance

I am travelling to Iceland in about 3 weeks and I would like to take some timelapse of the drive. I could set up my iphone in the car and mount it to the dash or just hold it there, but I want something outside the car. I am looking for a camera that's waterproof (it rains and snows a ton in Iceland (especially in April)) and relatively cheap. I was also looking to rent a gopro because I could use that for vlogging as well. I am bringing along my 70D for the northern lights plus a michron by alpine labs to get timelapse of waterfalls and cities (and of course the northern lights). So if anyone knows either a cheap gopro rental place, or a good waterproof camera that I can mount to the side of a car that has OK video quality, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had a pretty serious mountain biking accident over the weekend in which I landed in an almost dry river bed (not quite dry enough though). This drowned my phone and killed it, I've dried it stripped it down and cleaned the connects but I'm not holding much hope as I was unable to remove the battery for over a day. The more I look at new phones the more i come to feel that none of them have really hit the mark...do any of you guy have any better ideas? I was using a Samsung S4, something with a similar screen size and resolution is likely what id like to stick with. 5ish inch screen 1080p screen (more is fine but would prefer to have a longer battery life) Waterproof USB-C (figure im gonna have the phone for 3-5 years so dont want to be stuck with old usb connector) front facing speakers (no required but would really like it) Metal phone very much preferable to plastic... Are there any phones that fit this or are close to it? Would love to see what this epic forum can come up with! Cheers guys/girls!

I got a Xperia GO few days aGO (get it?) and I went to tinker with it and found that installation of CM 12 is possible and that indeed, it will make your phone fly. Now I was stuck on the 4.0 Build Ice Cream Sandwich which sucks so much on this phone, and wanted to change it. I will guide you step by step on how to install CM 12 on the GO... Now, this procedure may or may not work with other phones, but the firmware I will be flashing my phone with is specifically built for the GO model... Just go to Google and find an another tutorial depending on what phone you get, I found that this phone is quite popular, so I decided to do something good for teh sake of LTT. I'm trying to choose between this case and the Survivor + Catalyst waterproof case by Griffin technology, which one do you suggest if i am trying to choose the most even option between the two?

I wish I could like and dislike the video. '0.65' like and '0.35' dislike. Youtube should implement this. Many(not all) North American TV science/testing shows mess up(sometimes completely ignore) the units when they mention temperatures. The international viewers are thinking(at least I am) - "Have these guys evolved enough(not being condescending, see reasoning* later) that they mean Celsius, when they mention a temperature without any units? Or do these guys mean Fahrenheit? Or the far less likely - are they so super-evolved that they mean Kelvin? (*reasoning) It is a science/sciencey show and since Celsius is closest in relationship to Kelvin, one would expect them to mean Celsius when they mention temperatures without units but unfortunately, they rarely mean that. Also, Don't mention temperatures without any units. That's just plain wrong. Now you guys mess up the units many times in the video. Now I know that the temperature couldn't have been 800 deg C. Not everybody knows that. I know you meant 800 deg F or 426 deg C(Yes, I converted it.) This is especially confusing because you guys have used Celsius in pretty much all of your past benchmarking/testing videos and then suddenly you start changing units. Second, you guys ignored my comment on the unboxing video about testing the NAS for shock resistance. SHOCK DAMAGE is HIGHLY LIKELY during a fire. During a fire, if this NAS, being as heavy as it is, was on a desk, it could fall to the floor or things could fall on it, compromising not only its fire and water resistance capabilities but also the physical integrity of the hard drives stored within. I partly understand why you did not do this test because IOSafe did not specify shock resistance on the NAS and maybe you did not want to show their product in a bad light(maybe)? Third, you said this is a "worst case scenario". In a worst case scenario, the drives MUST be completely full. Were the drives completely full? You never mentioned that. Regardless of whether or not the drives are full, after testing, you should have run a full battery of tests to check if all sectors of the drive are intact/readable. Instead, you simply played back some of the files which is simply not enough. Now having said that, I did enjoy the video. It was nice to see Slick's brother. Now I see what Slick meant when he said his brother, though shorter, was much much stronger than him. Honestly, the only reason I am saying good things is so that I don't sound like a complete jerk above. It goes without saying but most LinusTechTips videos are awesome. I had to point out the flaws that I saw in this one. Anyway guys, what do you think? Am I being nitpicky? Could the test have been done better? Should Slick's brother have been given more screen time? The answer's Yes for this one BTW. I would like to have known what games he plays.

Apparently Asrock is planning to release water resistant motherboards in their oc-formula series associated with Intel Haswell release. It will be an overclocking motherboard with a HDMI INPUT, thunderbolt, wireless network and a beefy power delivery system according to the picture. B) What do you guys think about this? Is waterproof motherboards the future for watercooling-guys or will it just be a new gimmick?
