  1. I recently accidentally brought my iPhone 6s in the bathroom while showering and water got dropped on the display (it wasn't fully submerged or fully covered it was mostly on the lower half of the screen and the home button). Ever since, audio has been laggy even with AirPods and wired earbuds, my home button doesn't register anything when I click it, but weirdly Touch ID has had no problems. I read on iFixit that you should check the water damage indicator in the sim tray slot and I did but it's white, indicating that there's no water damage (at least that got to the sim slot). My home button will sometimes start working for like 2 minutes but will stop. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help
  2. I dripped some water on the lower portion of my iPhone 6s and the home button is now non functional. On the lock screen it says “Unable to activate Touch ID on this iPhone” and clicking the home button doesn’t do anything. Is there an easy fix to this? I’ve already tried restarting my phone, powering it off and cleaning the home button with q-tips (this actually made the home button function for about a minute after restarting but didn’t fix Touch ID), and tapping it against a towel to try and get water out if there’s any inside. Please Help!
  3. Hello guys. 3 Days ago I left home to spend the weekend on my parents'. Left the window to my room open where sits my desk and my computer, right by the window, I came back on Sunday morning after a stormy Saturday night to find the desk on my room drenched with water, my computer was ON with the fans spinning wildly like it was about to take off, I saw it all wet and I immediately unplugged off the wall as if expecting I could still save it. I opened it and the components inside were filled with droplets of water, the GPU, motherboard, CPU fan, drops of water everywhere, the PSU which sits on the lower part had the most water, with a small pool formed on the bottom right by the PSU. "This computer is dead". so I thought. I knew there wasn't much I could do so I disassembled it, part by part, and left it out to dry by a heater. Then comes next day, after a hard day's work came back home and I assembled everything, tried to power on and the fans take off, the GPU sounded like it was trying to fly away to mars with that speed, got scared and tried to power on again a few times, no signal on monitor, no lights, just fans spinning out of control. That's where I came to the conclusion this computer is done for. So 3 days later, today, I decided to cool down and get technical on this, I'll try to diagnose which component is not working anymore, that is, if everything isn't dead by now. So without removing or doing anything I power on the PC, and fans are normal, monitor shows signal, it boots to desktop, like nothing ever happened. I'm there mind struck and I start messing around with it and how everything is normal, gaming is normal, everything is working as if this PC has never ben drenched with water after leaving by the window on a stormy night. What happened here? How did the computer survive? Are computer hardware that strong nowadays? My mind is blown off.
  4. Hi, I have an issue with my laptop screen that started today; It's very noticeable with bright colors and most noticeable in pure white. The upper third of the screen and a patch on the bottom-left side are dimmer than the rest. (See attached pic) I'm not sure what caused this, my brother said he might've put a slightly wet towel over the screen earlier when the laptop was turned off. It wasn't like soaking wet, just damp. But then if this is a case of water damage, how come the screen still functions at all? I tried 10 seconds with the hairdryer pointed at the screen, didn't want to damage the panel but that had no effects. Also pushing on it does nothing, neither does the "flex test". Anyways I would appreciate any input on this. If anyone has experienced this before and maybe has a solution to hopefully fix it, I would be very grateful. Thank you. Laptop: Acer Aspire 5 2019 - 15,6" 1080p IPS Matt Panel. (I edited the picture to match what I see irl so that's a pretty good representation of the problem, no exaggerations)
  5. Hello. Let me give some context. Recently spilled water right into the top of my PC, causing it to immediately turn off. I unplugged it, let it sit in the open for a day, and turned it back on. It was working fine except for my ethernet port, which I fixed by getting ethernet to usb. It worked for probably 3 days, and then randomly shut off. Since then, I have not gotten it to make a sound, turn on a light, or start fans. No sign of life. I have tried a new PSU and a new motherboard, every combination of single ram stick with different slots, no sign of life. I just now realized that my new motherboard is the MSI B450M Pro-M2 Max, as opposed to the non-max version. I couldn't see a difference so I looked at the specs and supported RAM speeds are all higher than the non-max version. My RAM is 2400hz, which is not listed in the compatible speeds for this new motherboard. My question is will RAM being slower than the listed compatible speeds cause the PC to not post or start any noise/light/fan whatsoever? I need to be certain of the problem before ordering new stuff because I am a poor student and can't afford the risk of wasting more money because I'm already $140 down from wrong guesses. Any help would be really appreciated. It's been out of commission for about 2 weeks, and because literally all of my responsibilities require that computer working, I have been out of commission for 2 weeks and my boss, my teachers, and my research group are getting frustrated. Rant over. Any ideas?
  6. So I really screwed up last night. I accidentally spilled a beer on my predador 17. And now it doesn't power up. I have taken the panel off, and have cleaned it up. Would it be worth me getting it repaired or just getting a replacement? I love the damn thing. I am so disappointed in myself. I don't really have that much money to get a replacement. I would have to put it on the credit card. Anyone willing to help me repair it. I think it would be a interesting project for me and who ever is involved. Please help. I am so sad. 7. Been like a day since I got my s9, was on a heavy Gaming session that got my phone hot, so afterwards I thought that "oh yeah this phone's waterproof" so put it in a room temperature mug of water vertically with water level just covering the top of the phone. The screen was on, chroma started on its own, after being in the water for 5-8seconds I took it out and placed it on my bed. Then realized screen was off, pressed power button, realized phone itself was off. I long pressed the power button to turn it on but nothing's working. I opened the Sim tray and checked the Liquid Damage Indicator but I should be safe as thats white with red x patterns. The phones been set aside for an hour and I currently see moisture in the back camera, flash and heart rate sensor. I'm scared to try to charge it as I think it might further damage it. I riced it for 16hrs plugged it in, it was charging till 100% used it a bit, ran Antutu Benchmark was fine and everything. Then I turned off the screen and noticed the Always on display not showing, I unlocked it with the fingerprint even heard the sound but screen was blank, pressed power button heard the sound unlocked with iris scanner heard unlock sound, got messenger notification sounds aswell. After a few mins picked it up again was pressing buttons and trying the screen was on but at minimal brightness with a warm tone, I thought I set the bluelight filter so went to turn it off but it wasnt on, brightness was also at medium according to the slider, changed it but it didnt affect the screen, then the screen suddenly turned up in brightness with faded colors, then again jumped back to the lower brightness warm tone with a flicker then went blank and unresponsive again. What do I do?
  8. I have a dell optiplex 980 i7 that I wanted to convert into a gaming pc. I took it apart outside and spray painted everything black and left everything out to dry. The next day I woke up with my psu sitting in 3 inches of water because the water sprinklers unknowingly went off. So is my psu dead? If so I can’t just replace it for $20 because the motherboard connector is specifically for dell. That would mean I would have to buy a whole another $500 computer. Which I can’t afford because I’m only 12. I heard other people saying that if it has power going through it, it is fryed but if it’s off it just needs to dry. I didn’t have power connected to it, it was completely disconnected. Will it work or is it fryed and what should I do? I can’t really afford to buy a whole another computer.
  9. I've got an open air case and my neighbor's cat peed on it. The PC was turned on as I was copying files. It doesn't boot nor beeps (after drying for 3 days),but my GPU still has display when tested on a friend's rig. I got a new motherboard and PSU but still nothing. The fans would spin for a sec then turn off-- no post, no beeps. I can't test my CPU on friend's rig as we have diferent sockets. Could that damned cat pee shorted my mobo killed my CPU but not my GPU? Most of it was on my GPU and PCIe x16.
  10. Hey guys. This is my first post been a ltt subscriber on youtube for over a year and figured id use the forum for the first time. Keyboard: corsair k70 rapid fire so i spilled a cup of tea on my keyboard. It had some lemon juice in it, no sugar or milk. The computer was on and after the spill I immediately went to unplug it from behind the tower. As i was unplugging it it apeared to be hitting a bunch of keys at once. It ended up at the ctrl alt delete window when i unplugged it. I think everything will work once its back together but i disassembled it down to the frame and pcb. Would it be okay to wash it in the tub and let it dry for a week? Is it ok to get water inside the cherry mx switches? I inverted the board to drain the tea after the spill which is why i think the tea might have gotten in the switches and i want to wash it out. Is this a bad idea? I dont want to ruin all the switches since i think only a few might have been affected. But i also want to clean it and make it like new again since it is pretty dirty and i want to take advantage of having my keyboard disassembled lol. Thanks in advance for your suggestions
  11. So the other day I was making sure my power supply I ordered had all its cables. However, I did not realize when a put the cables back into the back that one was stuck to me, and I found it this morning in the dryer. The cable is a molex to fdd adapter. What do I do?
  12. Hi Ltt so I've been trying to water cool my rig and long story short both of my reference 980 ti cards got some splashes of ek pastel cooling liquid on them (I know I'm a d%@ckhead) When they were splashed the system was completely disconnected from power (had been for about 3 hours) and since they got wet they haven't been powered at all. I took them apart (down to bare pcb) and paper towel dried the drops (about 4 per card) and then used q tips on the smaller spaces that were wet. And that's where I am now. I'd like some advice for my next move, there is still some orange puddle residue on the boards, how do I go about cleaning that? And since I work in an industrial kitchen I have access to a graphic card sized food dehydrator, is this a good way to dry them? ( it's an open box that blows air from 30 to 90 degrees C onto a shelf) Help me Linus tech tips, you are my only hope
  13. ill start from the beginning ordered my HBA+ cables about 2 weeks ago my LSI sas 9207-8i from amazon showed up yesterday a day early, came all the way from china , well amazon had there in-house delivery service do the final leg for some stupid reason , they left the HBA along with the 8087 to sata cables in the amazon yellow envelope package outside of my house in the pouring rain , the card is trash ive already ordered a new one after calling amazon , person from amazon wouldn't stop saying were sorry ect . i have a mail box at the street which the card+cables would of fit no problem , they had to walk past it to put it where they did , but they didnt. the cables are sealed well in there plastic baggie, they didn't want to refund them since they are packaged well since there is no moister in the plastic bags the cables are in , i think they are safe to use or am i wrong ? i dont want to screw around since im attaching 8tb reds+ gold to this . since they wanted it back asap . the box had water coming out of it for the controller , left it behind my server exhaust to try and dry the box out enough to mail it back . didn't think UPS would take a package dripping . its mostly dry now the box for the HBA. here is one of the sas cables images to save time .i have a few of them but they are all the same , also have a port expanded ordered but they hasn't show up yet
  14. As the topic says, about 10 minutes ago a pipe for our dishwasher upstairs broke and got to my PC. My guess is that the GPU is definitely fried, but I was wondering if it's even worth trying to salvage anything else
  15. My dad uses a secondhand WoW mouse for work. He uses the buttons for their programmable macros. He brought it home a couple days ago because it stopped working (not during use, he showed up and it was broken) and I know a lot more about electronics than he does. I popped it open and found some mild corrosion buildup, which I removed to the best of by ability with a small, dry paintbrush. The cable itself is fine (I broke out a multi meter and tested for continuity across it on all the channels). Any advice? If I can't fix it, any recommendations for a replacement mouse? he uses all 14 buttons on a daily basis and wishes there was more of them. What windows gives me Back of PCB:
  17. I was doing normal maintenance of my Logitech-g710( cleaning, wiping down,etc..). When i spilled a whole bunch of water on it, so i waited a few days for things to dry and plugged her up. When i tried to log in to windows it started spamming random numbers. B.T.W. I was using only tap water And this happened today . I believe it wasn't fully dry butt any advice would help.
  18. Hi there, About 4 months ago, my Samsung galaxy S7 edge became water damaged. I was at a party and I was thrown into a pool several times with my phone in my pocket. When I tried to turn on my phone the next day many things did not function properly: Both cameras was filled with water. Although they eventually dried out, the launch times for the cameras have never been the same with it sometimes taking up to a minute to launch up when the home button is double pressed. The device takes a while wake. I don't know if this is a problem with the home button or the screen, but it takes a while and sometimes many presses of the home/lock button to wake the device. The fingerprint scanner also seems to have taken a hit as it takes wayyy longer to detect my fingerprint. The proximity sensor is broken. The phone no longer detects when I put my face against it during calls. The notification LED also stays on all the time now. The GPS system does not work. In maps, its always says GPS signal not found. The best I can get usually is an approximate location of where I am which sucks because I cannot use to the phone to navigate me. The accelerometer, gyroscope and compass does not work anymore. This is a shame because the phone does not rotate automatically anymore and VR stuff is impossible. The phone overall feels really sluggish. It lags from time to time and does not feel the same anymore. what I want to know is if I could replace these parts (maximum priority on the accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and GPS). And how much it would cost to repair these problems. I lost all documentation of the phone so warranty is not an option. My original plan was to just use the phone as it is and wait for the s8 to come out but the s8 was not what I expected. With no improvements on features like the rear camera to the seemingly small battery capacity and stupid placement of the rear fingerprint sensor I find it abit hard to justify spending 700 dollars on it. Thanks for the help guys!
  19. Hello, Some water spilled on my laptop, I tried to dry it, and it worked just fine for a month. After a month the laptop stopped charging. I tried to get it fix by pros but no one could help so I picked up 99% isopropyl alcohol and took the MB out and clean it nice and slowly, and it worked! the laptop charge again! BUT After few hours the laptop stopped charging again, so I did it again and again, every time it charging for some time and stopping again. I tried to clean, wait a week, and then connected it to the wall, works but after few hours stopped charging again. When I say stopped charging I mean it is won't charge any more. only by taking the MB out again and cleaning it and drying it with cold hair dryer and few hours or days of wait and only then connecting it to the charger. So any one have an idea what can I do? I can get it back to charge but how can I make it be fixed and not temporary? Maybe there is something I need to rub on my laptop? 20. last saturday i got y sony z3 back from my insurance company since my old one was very broke and today while i was in the bath it slipped out of my hand and went into the water and now the screen no longer works. by went into the water i mean the whole phone wasnt submerged it was only about 3cm in at the bottom for less than 5 seconds but the screen no longer works. and i am really annoyed at this since the hone is rated at being fully submerged at 1.5m for 30 minutes of use and it broke after 3cm for less than 5 seconds. so i was wondering can i complain to my insurance company about this since it should have been fine even though it is not or would the company not do anything about it. or would i t be better to get in contact with sony about this whole ordeal?
  21. So I had a party last weekend and a glass of white wine was spilled over the top of my steam machine. As far as I can tell most of it didn't get into the machine but some of it definitely did. Specifically in the SFX Power Supply. My question, now that it has been drying out for a few days, how should I go about testing things? My plan was to disconnect the PS from everything internally and flip it on, is there a way I can safely test running a load through the power supply without either 1) electrocuting myself or 2) risking frying my motherboard and GPU? Update: I opened up the tower after 2 weeks (because I was busy and it wasn't my primary machine not because I thought waiting 2 weeks was needed, a few days probably would have been fine). Cleaned any residue I could find inside and tried to determine if anything critical had been spilled on. Some wine had definitely gotten into the PSU. I unplugged the motherboard, Hard Drive, and GPU Connected a couple fans to the PSU. Then I shorted the 24 Pin to run PSU under light load (2 x 120mm fans, 1 x 80mm fan, and the fan in the PSU) for 20 minutes. After no issues cropped up I plugged everything back in and powered it up. Everything is working fine. In hindsight I may have been over cautious but I think the process was still a valuable test.
  22. Okay, this morning i opened up my gtx750ti to replace the thermal paste and i had run out of isopropyl alcohol, so as stupid as i am i decided to use mouthwash (which contained alcohol) and it worked. i cleaned the heatsink with ease, and then when i tried the video card, a little dripped on the acctual body and i dabbed it off. i then put it in my pc, after waiting 30mins to see static distortion on the screen and my resolution has been permanently set to 800-600. 4 hours after the insident the computer allows me to log in and now in the device menu my gpu has a yellow exclamation mark saying, "windows has found a problem with this device." so now i believe i am currently using my integrated graphics and not my actual gpu. 23. Hey guys! Recently posted about a spill I had happen on my PC, and I've replaced all parts that I can test given my current supplies. Running a new power supply, and a new motherboard, Upon atempted boot up, it started up for like 5 seconds before promptly shutting down. Now it loops these quick turn ons and turn offs until I kill the power on the PSU. It doesn't do 5 second start ups now, only quick one second ones. I disconnected basically everything and have my rig barebones on the motherboard box with a single ram dim inserted, CPU in (with heat sink) and the power supply powering the CPU and board. Still does this. I did ALL the troubleshooting online, but can't find anyone mentioning how a computer behaves when the Motherboard shorts, but is replaced. Everyone says it's the PSU or the MOBA, but I've replaced both. So is it the processor? Thanks in advance for any help. This has been an absolute living hell.
  24. Accidentally knocked a cup of water from a Brita filter over on my desk which dripped into the top vent of my PC. It had been on overnight and was still working when the water fell in, so I took the side off and dried the puddles that were on some of the case surfaces, and put it back together. Kept working for 3 more hours until it froze and would not turn back on. I tried booting twice with my main GPU still in, A Strix GTX 1060 6GB, and the OS booted and the GPU fans/RGB turned on, however, there was no visual. Took the card out and a few drops of water fell out. My second card still works and the system booted fine and there was a signal to those monitors. I voided the nonexistent warranty and used isopropyl alcohol to clean the corrosion, a small amount on the fan controller chips and one or two more various small components. I checked for bulging capacitors and other parts, but everything seemed fine. I put the card back in and the same result, OS booting (windows 7 made the bootup sound) and I could login, but there was no signal to my monitors. Is there any hope for my GPU? I really don't want to shell out another $320 for a card I used for less than 6 months. TL;DR: Brita water seeped into GPU, fans and RGB still turn on with Windows booting, but no signal to monitors.
  25. My h100i gave up today and I now have corsairs cooling goo all over my pc. I am trying to dry it and clean it best as I can but I need some advice as to if corsairs warranty covers their hoses popping off and if any parts are broken what shall I do from there.
