On Wan show last week there was a long discussion about chat solutions. Time-stamped 1:54:31 And here Has @Slick or Dan looked into zulip? https://zulip.com/for/business/ It is available as a subscription or self-hosted. It's similar to slack and has tools to import chats from slack https://zulip.com/help/getting-yourhttps://zulip.com/help/getting-your-organization-started-with-zulip Has anyone used zulip? Would it be a replacement for slack/team for LMG? I saw there was some discussions here, but no dedicated threads.

I'm not sure if this post should be here, or what to title it so sorry if this is kinda weird. I just thought of this idea while watching last night's WAN show and figured I might as well put it out there for people to to discuss and maybe Linus to consider. Regardless, during last night's WAN show Linus was talking about his concerns with his children not understanding what it's like not being "rich" and that they don't value money, and wanting to do something about it. Well, while Linus and Luke talking about what their childhoods were like being relatively poor, and how they had allowances and had to save up for things, I realize that Linus kind of does something similar with his kids. He's mentioned before how they have to "pay" for like playing games on the computer and other stuff, it's just that he has them "pay" with time doing other stuff that he wants them to do. So I had the idea that instead he could actually give them money, probably some kind of fake money, for doing this stuff he wants them to do, and then have them actually pay with that money to do things like, playing games on the computer, use the 3D printer, or whatever else. This fake money could then be used as a stand in for real currency so they can "purchase" things with it by telling Linus what they want and handing over the appropriate amount. I have no clue if this is a good idea but I think it's at least interesting to think about.

So after @LinusTech came up with the question who is driving the changes, I got curious who voted for these "laws": A small side note: The german parliament (Bundestag) has a nice overview on their website that shows how the MPs/Parties voted. I expected to find something similar for the EU Parliament, but I couldn't find anything. (Maybe it's somewhere on their page and I just missed it?) But after a bit of looking around, I found howtheyvote.eu. And the majorities for these "laws" are quite surprising: Digital Markets Act: 91% voted for this regulation (https://howtheyvote.eu/votes/8017) Digital Services Act: 87% (https://howtheyvote.eu/votes/8016) Radio Equipment Directive (the "law" that enforces USB C on phones): 97% (https://howtheyvote.eu/votes/8765) One last note: The Parliament is not the only part of the legislative process and the Commission (more or less the government) and the Council of the European Union (representation of the member states) are responsible as well.

I have been listening to WAN show for more than an year now on Spotify exclusively and never had any issues on the audio or the video podcast. For the past two podcasts now, I haven't been able to see the video podcast. Any suggestions on what I can do for this issue? Thanks

Summary Their 800+ videos were restored upon request. The deletion of the channel happened because of a deadline sent by mail to the unmanaged account of DigitalRev TV, which went unnoticed. DigitalRev TV Restores 800+ previously deleted videos. DigitalRev TV a Photography channel had previously deleted the entirety of its back catalog, containing more than 800 photography videos. Kai and Lok were the main hosts and cameramen respectively on DitialRev TV, and released several hundred videos during the 7 years they worked there. After all those years of work Kai left DigitalRev TV 7 years ago, and continued creating high quality photography content on YouTube, followed soon after by Lok. After the main hosts left the channel, DigitalRev TV saw a significant viewership decline, and uploads became increasingly infrequent. The last videos purposefully planned and made for the channel were published 4 years ago, when they uploaded a 3 part series of challenges in 2019, and 4 equipment reviews in 2018. As we can see, the overwhelming majority of the content found on the channel was made during those 7 years where Kai and Lok worked there. With their main cast not present anymore, it soon became clear that keeping the channel running wasn't financially viable, which was made worse by the decline in video uploads. This I assume, lead to the dissolution of the remaining team maintaining the channel. This ultimately was the cause of the channel deletion, the lack of response from the now no longer existing DigitalRevTV team resulted in a mixup with youtube, better explained by the DigitalRevTV team in the following fragment of its announcement via a Youtube Community Post: Upon questioning by @zoomnclick in youtube it was revealed by DigitalRev's founder and CEO Richard Yu, that even though the channel has been brought back, including all its 800+ videos, it will remain unmanaged and unmonitored. It turns out that when the videos were restored even private videos were set to public, however it was decided in the spirit of preserving history (in true data hoarder fashion) to leave them public. This is one of the few cases where lost media is officially restored, a huge win for data preservation, keeping a library of invaluable educational and entertaining photography content alive, for more people to see and get introduced to the hobby. So I generally like to listen to podcasts rather than watch them, so I usually listen to the WAN Show when the VOD becomes available on Spotify. This week I noticed that the audio levels on the VOD are kinda quiet. I was wondering if it's just me or if everyone else is having this problem.

Foxtel, the long-standing Australian Cable/Satellite TV service , is releasing another streaming service "Hubbl" (they already have 4 foxtel now, binge, kayo and flash news), claiming to be an "all-inclusive" streaming solution for Australia. They're venturing into hardware with a TV for Hubble. But for those not keen on a new TV (for no reason), there's a rebranded MiBox S 1st gen from 2018 (gross) theres no news on pricing or if you can use a smart tv you already paid for or a streaming device you already paid for and which streaming services are actually included in the monthly fee and if it has 24 month contracted like their existing Cable/Satellite TV service already has There is also no news if the tv can use another apps or even has HDMI inputs to use something decent https://www.techguide.com.au/news/televisions-news/foxtel-launches-hubbl-a-platform-that-combines-tv-and-streaming-in-one-place/ https://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/media/foxtel-unveils-its-new-hubbl-tv-technology-to-make-tv-viewing-much-smoother/news-story/1196107a10b9a615892744e5a4fc008a https://eftm.com/2023/10/foxtel-announces-hubbl-streaming-tv-platform-destined-to-fail-or-the-next-big-thing-239196 https://tvtonight.com.au/2023/10/foxtel-announces-hubbl-puck-and-tv.html

Did Dan make a Puzzlepirates reference in the last Wan show? Am I the only one on earth that noticed it and me and Dan are the only two people on earth who have ever played Puzzle Pirates? What a throwback. Dan! I need an answer! Whats your pirate name? EDIT: Nevermind I am very stupid and just realized this means subs vs dubs in the language context. Duh. Anyways, who else played puzzle pirates back in the day?

Epic games is fine with modding Fortnite as long as it dosen't touch their server and since Fortnite is Unreal, Private Servers do exist here is one of the best ones that lets you play every current version of the game offline https://github.com/Lawin0129/LawinServer.

In a recent Wan show Linus admitted to catching and keeping wild mice, he admitted it was against the law and he knows it is, but either way said that if he wants to keep mice he will keep mice showing no respect for the law and the wildlife that lives near him, he admitted it was great entertainment for his cats. I don't think it is right to catch and keep wild animals, if he really wants pets why not go to the pet store. Just another reckless comment and a sign of him doing whatever he wants regardless? I have not seen this mentioned anywhere else, so posting as a new topic.

What day and time is WAN Show live in Swedens time zone? Are they usually on time, if not, when is the real time of the broadcast (again in the Swedish time zone)? Is it a good idea to order in the beginning of the show if you want them to answer your Merch Message-question?

wan show On the 400 billion dollar broadband scandal
dm_me_your_poem posted a topic in General Discussion
In the latest WAN show Linus and Luke brought up that apparently US taxpayers have paid 400 billion dollars for fibre internet that never got delivered. Here's a hackernews thread about the topic providing some pushback against this idea: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7709556 I enjoy shitting on Americans and their broken systems as much as the next guy. But I don't think it's quite this broken. I feel like it's fun to hate ISPs and I hate them too - but flat out stealing 400 billion dollars in tax payer money? Not even in the US they would allow that. I'm not saying it's definitely fake news but I find the stance taken in that thread sounds way more realistic. -
In the latest Wan show, Linus mentioned that LMG has never taken a sponsorship for supplements, sexual apparatus, gambling and healthcare. But in the latest MacAdress, they took a sponsorship from a company called Ritual, making supplements. Yes, he does mention that something might just slip through, so I found it really funny and ironic that it happened in literally the latest video right before WanShow. Just wanted to bring to notice.

I stumbled across this mechanical engineer YouTube channel who is working on hall effect joysticks for controllers named Marius Heier on YouTube. he has posted several video's in the last several months of some amazing hall effect joysticks and showing installing them on controllers with stick drift and showing them working properly. He is making all his research etc. Open Source and offering it up to anyone or any company! I would love to see this get some serious traction and pressure be put on the likes of Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, and all other peripheral makers to change their practices. E-waste is a huge problem and stick drift is certainly one of the top contributors due to these controllers failing well before they're unusable. I think this would be a great thing to cover on the Wan show and also to get some of the prototype samples to the LAB for some in depth testing and review! Marius has done so much work on this and deserves the assistance in getting the word out and getting noticed on the big stages to make some serious leaps forward in resolving stick drift. Not sure if youtube links are allowed but if it isn't you can look him up by his Youtube user name @MariusHeier1 < removed by moderation >

Hi all, I wondered if anyone knows why the Wan show set does not have specific cameras to see items Luke and Linus are holding; they usually switch to single-face cameras, but you struggle to see anything small. They use on other sets that shoot products a top camera focused on the table that is set up so you can see small details of products. It seems worth adding that to the wan show set as they at least once a show seem to want to demonstrate something close up. It seems worthwhile not just from a production quality standpoint but also from a business perspective as they often show new merch and a lot of the small details they work so long on can't be picked up, and often even some designs don't show up well. Being able to slide over a bit, put the item on the desk, and use a top camera focused on that area would allow them to show off new products in far better-quality images. Plus would have the benefit of having a cleaner background to what they are showing off and be a nice quality of life thing as a viewer.

Hello there. Figured it was as good of a time as any to become less of a lurker. I suppose this marks my first post on the forums, so...hello once more. Making this thread as I've noticed the lack of a WAN-specific board. Seeing as the WAN Show has been consistently getting longer as of lately, what has been your more favorite moment? Mine is a stand off between Linus throwing laptops at Luke after he (sort of) complained about not having laptops, and Dan calling Luke a bastard while casually saying he's curating 1,500 messages manually from order history.

I've noticed the Wan show usually isn't posted on Spotify until the following Monday after the stream, which is fine, and I get that the stream doesn't end until around midnight now, and it's the weekend after that, but I like to listen to it as soon as possible, which usually means using youtube, which again would be fine if I wasn't listening to it from my phone with youtube's stupid "you can't playback video unless you either keep your phone on constantly or pay for premium." anyways, just wondering if there was a specific reason it comes later to spotify, and if not it would be awesome to get it sooner. although at the rate things are going, the wan show might not finish till sunday anyways.

i've been up since 2am with a sudden stomach bug, just absolutely sick and miserable and spending a lot of quality time in the bathroom. i wanted to say thank you for the long wan shows in podcast form... you've helped keep my mind off it and feel less lonely, as miserable as it's been haha. thanks

Hello, just wondering if anyone recognized the mic arms they've been using for the most recent episodes of WAN Show. Unfortunately there's no visible branding and my googling didn't turn anything up.
-
I timestamped his WAN show, but when I tried googling these terms, the search results don't come up as Linus calls them. He requested: 1. Flash ID Program Window. 2. Date of my purchase (that's taken care of) 3. Flash/controller specs of the drive. (I have the name of the drive with its old packaging, but beyond that I have no idea) If I was to send this to Linus, what is the best steps to ensure that I wipe it clean before sending it away?

I really got a kick out of this when I noticed how the video window happened to land on my desktop. The thought of a alternate universe where Linus and Luke are the two-headed version of the Mandalorian .
