  1. Hardware: ASROCK Z370 EXTREME 4 TP LINK TX201 [2.5Gbps] Software: openmediavault_7.0-32-amd64 Unified Remote [paid] Hi, as per title i'm gonna ask for wol from shutdown, i red a bunch of guides that affirm you can wol from shutdown but i'm only able to do it from hibernate and sleep. Is there somethign specific to do to enable wol from shutdown? Also, if someone know a better option to wol and shutdown/sleep remotely with a phone instead of unified remote i will be interested.
  2. Hello! I want to access my home PC remotely, from an IPad. To achieve this I have my router acting as a openvpn router, then after connecting to the VPN, I send a Wake On Lan package and then I can access my computer with the windows built in remote desktop function. If I directly connect to my home network everything works fine. But if I want to connect through my VPN the Wake On Lan doesn’t work. If the computer is already on I can connect using VPN + remote desktop. Why does the WOL fail, what can I do to fix it?
  3. Hi, I'm currently having trouble setting up a wake on WAN (WOL over Internet) with IPv6: I configured a DHCP, opened the right port with the firewall configuration of my rooter and my device starts as expected when it receives the magic packet from the "WolOn" app but only on LAN. I expected it to work on WAN but the WolOn app states an error occured without explaining anything. What can I do to make it works ? Is IPv6 allowing Wake on Wan ?
  4. I have a rackmount Dell server downstairs which I need to automatically turn on at a certain time every day. The servers hardware doesn't seem to support a way for it to power itself on automatically but it does support WOL so I want to have another PC on my network, my print server, send a WOL packet when it turns itself on every morning. All the documentation I'm finding for how to use WOL isn't the most clear and I was wondering if someone could point me to a quality guide and maybe offer a few tips.
  5. So I want to configure wake-on-lan to be able to turn on my computer from sleep from my phone. I just built this PC and the motherboard is Gigabyte B450M DS3H, which has a Realtek RTL8168/8111 network adapter built in, and it supports wake on lan according to gigabyte's website. I have installed the latest drivers for my network adapter available on gigabyte's website, I have tried older driver versions, and even grabbed the latest driver from Realtek, but the problem is still there. I have enabled the wake-on-lan setting in my BIOS, and also enabled 'Wake on magic packet' and 'shutdown wake-on-lan' in the network adapter properties. No matter what, in the power management tab of the network adapter properties, the option 'Allow this device to wake computer' is greyed out. I have tried running the command powercfg -deviceenablewake "Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller" and used the exact device name of my ethernet adapter listed when using the powercfg 'devicequery wake_from_any command, but it returns the result "You do not have permission to enable or disable device wake", even when cmd is run as administrator. I am the sole user of this pc, and have a local administrator account. I don't know what to do here, and how to troubleshoot any further. Any help at all is appreciated.
  6. I want to use wakeonlan to wake up my computer from sleep using my phone. But the option 'enable this device to wake computer' is greyed out in Windows network adapter properties. ( All images related to this post are here) Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H v1 Network Adapter : RealTek Semiconductor RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (https://imgur.com/I47y18P) BIOS version : f61c I'm using the latest build of Windows 11. In BIOS, ' Wake On Lan' is enabled PCIE aspm is turned off, PXE boot to lan is turned on. ErP is disabled. There is no option for 'PME Event Wake up' in my BIOS. In Windows network adapter properties, 'Shutdown Wake-On-Lan' is turned on 'Wake on magic packet' is turned on 'Wake on pattern match' is turned off, (turning this on doesn't change anything) 'Power saving mode' is turned off 'Green Ethernet' is turned off I have tried installing the newest driver for my network adapter from gigabyte's website, I have tried 5 older drivers from gigabyte's website, and other websites, but the option is still greyed out, and wake on lan doesn't work. Yes, my PC and my phone are on the same LAN. I have tried editing the registry and adding 'AllowWakeFromS5' key in 'Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NDIS\Parameters' I have located my network adapter driver key and tried changing the keys 'S5WakeOnLan' to 1 and 'PowerDownPll' to 0 in 'Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\'. None of these steps changed anything, and I cannot use wake on lan. The only option I have now is to update my BIOS to version f62. But before I do that, is there anything I am missing? Is there any setting in Windows, changing which will allow me to use wake on lan? Any help at all is appreciated.
  7. Hey everyone, I have a Dell Optiplex 3020SFF with a Realtek PCIe GbE Family Ethernet Controller and under Device Manager, there's no 'Power Management; tab to enable Wake on Lan. There's also nothing under the 'Advanced' tab's properties. I have WOL enabled in the BIOS (which is up to date), all drivers and Windows are up to date, fast startup is disabled. I tried disabling the modern sleep feature through regedit, no luck. Any thoughts?
  8. Hi everyone, after hours and many different days of seaching for the solution, I finally gave up and came to the conclusion that maybe I should ask for help regarding Wake On LAN. My setup is simple, I have a DOCSIS router (installed by my ISP) that connects to the internet, and I have my own router connected to it (TP-Link Archer AC1200), which has my PC as well as my Synology DS214se plugged into it into their own subnet (my house is 192.168.1.xxx, and my subnet is 10.0.0.xxx). I have used Wake on LAN before, I used to use Pulseway to send the magic packet and it worked, but after I installed my new router I noticed the ARP tables on my old DOCSIS router were not accesible and I could not redirect the packet correctly. So, before I ask anything, I need to tell you the things I have tried already: Updated the original driver of my Gigabyte B450 S2H NIC and enabled all WOL settings Enabled WOL on BIOS Disabled all power saving/efficiency settings on Windows power plan and NIC Port-forwarded port 9 UDP to my PC (I really did not need this, because its on LAN, not WAN, but just for making sure) Tried waking up from suspended/full power off states, neither did work Disabled Fastboot and hibernate on Windows And other things that did not make sense, although it could be the problem: Disabled NetBios on the NIC (this caused my networked drives to not be recognized) Enabled Simple TCP/IP Services on Windows Now, I have tried WireShark to see if my PC recieves the Magic Packet. When I sent the magic packet via my Synology NAS (with the synonet command) it didn't show up, but then I tried with another PC using WOL - Magic Packet Sender and it worked by sending it through the 255.255.255.255 local subnet. Tried the same with the computer off and no dice. This says to me that yes, it works when its turned on, but not when its off or suspended. This brings me to another problem. The normal thing when you use Wake on LAN is that the LEDs on your NIC stay turned on, letting you know that it is waiting for the magic packet. Everytime I have tried it, the lights turned off just before the PC shutdown. I have been researching and some people say its due to Windows not being able to use WOL from shutdown, but I know that is not correct. Some other post I've read said that in their PC Linux could leave the NIC turned on, but not Windows. And for last, for some reason Windows doesn't let me check "Allow this device to wake the computer" on my NIC. I have ignored this since I have those options on the NIC's configuration, but it is something that everyone I have seen with this problem could do, and did. So, my final questions are: How can I make my NIC stay turned on? synonet command is not working, why could it be? Is there a way for me to force enable "Allow this device to wake the computer"? I have seen a UEFI UNDI driver for the NIC, but I don't know if I need to update it or how can I do it, because the one in the BIOS is from 2015, and the new one from 2020. My NIC is a Realtek Gaming GbE Family Controller and it has the latest driver update, 10.59.425.2022 Thank you for any help you bring up, and lets see if we can fix this together!
  9. Hi all, Last week I tried setting up WoL (Wake over LAN) over my LAN to be able to turn my laptop on remotely and use a remote terminal from my main PC. The remote terminal works fine, as I have forwarded port 22 for SSH. However, I have enabled WoL in the BIOS and my laptop's NIC does support it, and I forwarded the default WoL port (9) over a broadcast IP (192.168.1.255). But, when I send a magic packet over the broadcast IP, my main PC receives the message for my laptop's MAC address, but my laptop does not turn on. My only logical conclusion is that since it is a laptop and not a desktop, it does not constantly supply power to the NIC to be able to see and receive the magic packet in order to turn on. Am I doing anything wrong? Thanks, jtpjr
  10. I'm unable to wake my PC using WOL, here are the details: 1) I'm trying to WOL a PC from another PC inside the same network. (Both Wired) 2) I have msi gaming 5 Z97 mobo and the Wake Up configurations is set to OS rather than BIOS 3) I set the killer Ethernet inside windows to wake up only using "magic packet" on both of "advanced" and "power management" tabs 4) I opened WOL Monitor and made sure that the packet reaches the PC 5) I got the interface's MAC address 6) I put the PC to sleep, made sure that the Ethernet led on the router is still up 7) I opened WOL Gui on the other PC and tried to wake it up , but nothing happens Please advise, what I'm missing ?!
  11. I have a MSI z97s SLI Krait Edition. I need to have Wake-On-Lane ability but I can not find it in the BIOS. Everytime I try to turn my tower on via Teamviewer I can't get the tower to come on. What am I doing wrong? WOL is turned on with my Realtek PCIe GBE FAMILY Adapter. I am running Win 10. I need to be able to access my tower from my mac laptop when I am on the go via teamviewer. I appreciate any help you give me.
  12. Well, here's the issue. Basiclly i'm trying to get my Omen HP Laptop to Wake on Lan. I've tried folowing this article by HP, and using several android apps that claim to work with Wake on Lan, but got nowhere. I've also tried folowing some youtube tutorials, but no change. My computer just wants to "sleep" a lot, either from suspension or totally off. I tried also using an ethernet cable and wireless. Also I've looked at the BIOS for anything regarding WoL, and found nothing. (Side note: Isn't HP BIOS a little too lacking and old fashioned?) Can someone help me? Thanks in advance!!!
  13. I'm going crazy, my pc is randomly waking up from hibernate (and sleep, but I don't use sleep). My wake devices: C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -devicequery wake_armed Intel(R) Ethernet Connection (7) I219-V HID Keyboard Device (003) HID-compliant mouse Lastwake doesn't show anything: C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -lastwake Wake History Count - 1 Wake History [0] Wake Source Count - 0 Here's the last (random) wake event in event viewer: - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power [ Guid] {331c3b3a-2005-44c2-ac5e-77220c37d6b4} EventID 107 Version 1 Level 4 Task 102 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x8000000000000444 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2019-04-13T14:35:56.416965700Z EventRecordID 19866 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 4 [ ThreadID] 11420 Channel System Computer DefineR6-2019 Security - EventData TargetState 5 EffectiveState 5 WakeFromState 5 ProgrammedWakeTimeAc 1601-01-01T00:00:00.000000000Z ProgrammedWakeTimeDc 1601-01-01T00:00:00.000000000Z WakeRequesterTypeAc 0 WakeRequesterTypeDc 0 Besides this, it only says "The system has resumed from sleep." The keyboard and mouse only wake the pc on click, the mouse doesn't wake it with movement. So, it has to be ethernet, right? I do have a wake on lan app on my phone, I use it daily. But when the pc is randomly waking up, I'm nowhere near that app, or my phone even. I also disabled ALL wake timers in power management. Is it the wake on lan app or can it still be windows somehow? How do I find out? BTW this has been going since day 1 that this computer has existed, which is now about 4 months. Thanks!
  14. [I am not that much into network stuff so I am posting this ?] Hi! I recently had to change motherboard and as it fixed my problems, it added a minor one, my WoL is not working anymore... I changed from Aorus Gaming AX370 k5 to Asus B450-f Strix and while it worked good on Aorus mobo it doesn't work anymore on Asus one. I turned on apm settings in bios and made sure magic packets are enabled and it is not working. Before I could just casually turn off my computer, go to sleep and then when I wake up: turn on my pc with one button click on my phone. And if it is possible I would want to go a bit beyond that, as I sometimes need something from my pc while I am at school I would want it to work over the internet or something so I can turn on my pc anywhere I am. (I think it is needed) my router is Tp-link Archer C6 AC1200. Thanks in advance ?
  15. Hi there! This is my first post on the LTT forum, so I apologize for my lack of knowledge of the forum. Recently, I have taken an interest in being able to remote into my computer from my phone or laptop from anywhere to access files or use the desktop environment. At first, I used Windows Remote Desktop, which worked fine, but accessing it outside of my LAN would mean opening a port that is quite insecure. For this reason, I switched to TeamViewer, which should work fine for my uses. My PC isn't the most powerful computer (see the spoiler for some specs), but it will pull upwards of 200-300 watts at times, which can be a lot to run 24/7. So, I wanted to be able to start my PC remotely. At first, I thought about doing this externally by just hooking something into my physical power pins on my motherboard, but then I found out about Wake on Lan. I decided that this would be a good idea, and TeamViewer has some other support for Waking outside of your LAN, so I decided this was what I was going to do. I started with setting up windows, and this was not difficult in the slightest. Then, I switched into my BIOS. This was when things started to become difficult. I found multiple options that sounded like they would support this, but none seemed to work. I sent multiple requests from my phone to start my PC, and I had no luck. I am aware that it might not be supported on my motherboard, but seeing as I am running the latest bios, I would expect something like Wake on Lan to be there. I'm running a Biostar TA970, with the latest bios from Biostar flashed (97XAD807.BSS). Any help would be much appreciated!
  16. I got new server rig earlier this year for my rendering purposes. I want to use wake on LAN feature now for some power saving purposes and comfort. Although I do not have heavy server networking knowledge. I just found that 10Gigabit Ports do not support WOL. Sadly, I got 4 of them. Here are my complete specifications. My Server Specifications: CPU: Dual Xeon Silver 4114 @ 2.2GHz MoBo: Intel S2600STB RAM: 32 GB GPU: 1050Ti Server Chassis: I am ready to plug another network card, But the question is will I be able to do WOL? How? I have attached Speccy File, You can load into your Speccy and can see all the configuration things you need to know. Thanks in Advance. Xeon_WakeOnLan_Issue.speccy
  17. I think the title says pretty much what I would like to know
  18. Hello, I tried to get wake on LAN working. First of all, I'll tell my problem: I got it working when my pc was in 'sleep' and hibernate mode but when I turn my pc completely off it doesn't work anymore. Here are the things that I've done to set it up. (I have a asus prime z370-a )in my network connection properties:- "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"- "allow this device to wake up the computer"-"only allow a magic packet to wake up the pc" -" (under the advanced tab) wake on magic packet & wake on patern match" both to enabledIn power options:-"turn on fast startup" (unchecked so it's disabled)In bios:-"Enable Power On by PCIE" -"Disabled fast boot"Some say you need to enable a feature "wake on LAN -> enabled" or something like that but I guess that option for me is the power on by PCIE, and that it differs from manufacturer to manufacturer how it's displayed in the bios. I don't know if that has to do something with it but I'm not planning on using it outside my house because another tutorial said I needed to forward some things in my router. I'm just planning on using it inside my house itself with my phone being the "remote" to startup my pc.

    WoL

I am curious. Is it possible with a wifi receiver connected to my ethernet port on my motherboard to send a WoL package?
  20. So I have an Asus z-170 Pro Gaming/Aura motherboard and I fixed the bios things you have to do like enabling APM PCI-E and turning on Magic pocket in Windows. I use "Wake on Lan" app for Android, When I press the start button on the app nothing happens. Thanks.
  21. I have been experimenting lately with wake on LAN, specifically, I used IFTTT and an android application called Automatic Premium to program my Google Home Mini to send a WOL magic packet to my computer when I say "Hey Google, turn on my computer." Initially it worked great. The computer boots right up and the Google assistant even replies with "Firing it up" but I've noticed that after my computer is left off for a significant amount of time, say, overnight, the system will not power up from the magic packet. I've run some packet sniffing to verify that the magic packet is in fact being broadcast on my network and it is, ruling out the router and the back end programming. I'm at my wits end in Google searches trying to figure out why the process works immediately after shutdown but not a few hours after shutdown. The BIOS is set to have WOL enabled and within Windows, my network adapter is configured to allow WOL with a magic packet. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm sort of a networking noob so I wouldn't be surprised if there's something simple that I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
  22. Since I built my computer a few months ago, I have never been able to put it on sleep or hibernate without it waking up automatically shortly after. I went into the device manager and disabled all of my usb devices from waking it up and it would still turn on automatically. After that I went and disabled my network adapter from waking the computer randomly and that seemed to solve it. My issue is that I want to know what was causing it to wake up in the first place, and also I need help setting up WoL in a way that I can turn on my computer when I am not at home, any help?
  23. Soooo, managed to make my main computer wake up by a magic packet sent through Teamviewer, which is really neat... But moments after shutting down and getting ready to leave my house... The thing started up on its own. My setup consists of two computers of which one runs 24/7 as a server, and has Teamviewer on it, the other is my gaming rig which also has Teamviewer, now I want to be able to wake it up and I figured it would be much more fool-proof to make the server send an internal magic packet if I want to wake up the gaming rig. I'm pretty sure I set everything so that my gaming computer should only accept an exact magic packet from only the server, but for some reason it starts up on its own which I do not want since the thing chucks 150-ish Watts easily when running idle... I read that this is an issue that plagues many but does someone have a clue why it still wakes up even though it shouldn't, may it be accepting other things than a magic packet, is the server sending magic packets even though I didn't tell it to? The network chip to receive the wake up call is an Intel I219V by the way. Sadly I'm not home at the moment and the computer is not running (had to disable S5 wake up to make it stop booting), but once I am I'll post my current settings.
  24. Dear LTT Forum, I'm trying to setup Wake on LAN on desktop. I'm using the onboard Marvell Yukon 88E8056 NIC on my Asus P6T Deluxe V2. Below you find a list of the things I have already done/check: - Enabled Power On By PCIe Devices in BIOS - Enabled Power On By PCI Devices in BIOS - Enabled Wake on Magic Packet in the Device Manger (Using Windows 10 x64 Pro) - Set a static IP for the NIC - Setup a Port Forword on my Router (Port 7777 if that makes any difference) - Downloaded the Wake on Lan app for my HTC M8 (Android 5.1) App by Mike Webb - Added my Device to the App (Entered my MAC Address, my External IP, and the Port i forwarded on my Router (7777)) But it isn't working, I tried once before, a couple of months ago, using multiple apps for android and even on my Server PC (running Win 7 Pro) but couldn't get it to work back then. Hopefully someone here has some insight or something i might have overlooked. Thank you in Advance, Vashan
  25. I have a TP-link Archer C2 router, Windows 10 and my isp has dynamic IP I've managed to turn on my PC via phone/laptop but only through my own wifi, if I try 3G or a different wifi connection it won't wake up. I've wasted hours trying to make this work and I'm at the point of giving up. I've followed some tutorials, the one attached has the same router menu as mine... following this tutorial I came to a potential problem, at Dynamic DNS tab I've registered at no-ip.com under the name xxx.ddns.net , the difference is that the guy in the tutorial has the Connection Status as "Succesfull" while mine is always displayed as "Connecting" Also I have a suspicion that my ports are blocked, I've tried some tool and it said so. Please help, I'll provide every information needed. This is the tutorial, it has 2 parts:
