New ddr5 designs are set to come out next year, doubling output. Is it smart to still buy ddr4 ram builds know or to wait for next years mobo, cpu, ram, etc upgrades. http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/jedec-ddr5-specifications-2018/ https://fossbytes.com/ddr5-ram-2018/ https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/03/next-generation-ddr5-ram-will-double-the-speed-of-ddr4-in-2018/

Should I go and buy the Samsung Galaxy s8, or should I wait for a better phone? I'm honestly looking for good developer support and something with the amazing design for the s8. Is anything like that coming soon?

I would guess that it might be rebranded as RX 690(64) and RX 680(56) sometime in the future so my question is if prices remain bad should I and anyone else who question this wait? This might also be a option who knows what AMD plans. (we never know right?) Edit: re-branded Vega will also have better custom coolers since any bugs or issues will be found now with this generation...

I'm thinking of building an AMD build for gaming/content creation and AMD is gonna release AMD Navi later during H2 2018. Should I wait or can I just go with a VEGA card for 1440p@144fps and be completely fine (If the cards can handle it when we get to see reviews from third party reviewers)? I'm gonna build my new rig late 2017/early 2018. Regards, Joro

Navi doesn't look to be as big of a leap but it looks like it'll time in nicely with my next upgrade cycle. We'll see. Anyone else here with me on this or no?

I'm relativity a novice PC Enthusiast. I have some questions about Coffee lake. I currently have a 3570K in my system that is without a doubt bottle-necking my 2x 970 SLI. Not anything too significant but a buddy of mine gets 7-20 more FPS with the same video card setup depending on the game. Although this isn't that bad tbh and I still run most games at max, I've decided it's almost time to upgrade my whole system. Now should I upgrade to a 7700K or Ryzen 7 1700? Or wait 5 months for Coffee Lake? It's not like my PC is dead so waiting is fine. Also since the 7700K is LGA 1151 and I've read Coffee Lake might use the same socket, could I just pop Coffee Lake in the same motherboard the 7700K would be in? I doubt the performance upgrade would be worth it anyway but I'm just asking in a hypothetical sense in the case 3 years from now I could upgrade if Coffee Lake is 30% better like rumors say. Lastly I just wanna say sorry for any ignorance here. I'm leaning on Ryzen because I hear it's better for streaming, which I'd like to give a shot, but it's hard to look past the negative stigma I have for AMD. I've never used AMD so it's out of my comfort zone if that makes sense but I'm willing to give it a shot.

It's time for some Christmas shopping, only a couple of months later. I'm planning to finally get a new video card after many many years. I'm planning to get a GTX 1060 6GB. It's time to upgrade by now my ancient PC. It's an old AMD system. It has the very first generation of Quad-Cores that AMD produced, yeah it's that ancient. Since it's that old I want to ask two questions. First of all, my motherboard has PCI-E x16 1.1, will the video card even work in my system? I know that PCI-E 2.0 motherboards support 3.0 cards but don't know if 1.1 supports it. And yes I know that my processor is once again I use this word ancient, and because of that it will bottleneck the hell out of the video card. Unfortunately I can't afford a brand new system. Second question, I won't be buying the card this Christmas, just like I said in my first phrase. I'll get it around February or March. So the questions becomes, should I wait for the next generation (don't really know what architecture is next) or just buy the 1060? So the GTX1060 or GTX1160 (or whatever it's going to be called)?

I have saved about half a year for an RTX 2070. I should be able to afford it in august. (600€) Now, should i buy it or wait for the RTX 2170? I would be willing to wait til march but not much longer.

Hello everyone, Someone told me that it's better to wait before buying a new CG who has just been put in sale, the 3090 in this case.. Because there always be better models, and the existing models may have some problems who are corrected in the future... do you think i should wait ? Do you guys have ever heard of this ? Thanks everyone !

Hi there! I'm currently looking for a budget GPU for my PC. Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.2GHz MB: MSI B350 PC Mate RAM: 2x G.SKill Ripjaws V 8GB Current GPU: GTX 750 modded by Galax PSU: bequiet 400W An upgrade of the PSU is also planned if thats necessary for a GPU upgrade. I'm playing many different games but mostly GTA V, Rocket League, Destiny 2, No Mans Sky, any Assassins Creed (includung Origins), PUBG, Cities: Skylines, Minecraft. Most games run pretty smooth at around 40~60 fps but I'm after the full 1080p60+fps experience. Should I wait for the 1180/2080 to come out and see the prices drop even more or should I spend like 350~450€ on a GTX 1060 (6GB)/1070? Maybe even a completely different approach/other GPU? What are your opinions?

I'm currently looking at getting a 1070ti. The prices have come down and I would be comfortable buying at the current price. I don't currently have a PC right now and don't have the money for the entire PC. I will have the money in the next couple months but I'm worried the price of GPUs will go up by then due to everyone rushing to buy the new cards and then buying 10-series cards once all the new cards are gone. The way I see it, I have 3 options: 1. Buy the 1070ti now even though I don't have the money for all the parts of my computer, 2. Buy the 1070ti once I have the money to buy all the parts and risk the prices rising, 3. Wait until the new cards come out and buy one of those for more than the 1070ti costs but get more performance. Let me know your thoughts

I currently have an AMD FX-8320 on an ASUS Sabertooth R.2 motherboard with 16GB of Ripjaw RAM, a Samsung EVO 840 500 MB driving Windows 10 Pro across 3 -24" monitors. These items are in a Cooler Master HAF922 case with 3 200mm fans. I am in a quandary as to upgrade my system now (to i9 7900x, TR 1950X, Ryzen 2700x) or wait for a few months to see what the AMD TR Gen 2 brings to the table (or possibly until Black Friday)? I have slowly been upgrading my system in preparation for the "BIG" update; External 2TB Backup HD, Asus Strix 1070 OC GPU, Dell U2412M Monitor (but I want a 4k monitor now), Nactua NH-D15 CPU Cooler. I have the money to invest up to $3,000 on a new CPU (TBD), Motherboard (ASUS or ASRock), RAM, SSD (Samsung M.2 970 Pro 500GB). Possibly a new Mid-Tower Case (that can fit an E-ATX), Modular 1,000 Watt PSU. Looking for some input on maximizing my investment? My system is very stable and I don't HAVE to upgrade, but my CPU is old and I'm itchy to get something newer, faster, shinier, better! BUT, don't want to get all sorts of CURRENT parts and pieces now that will be updated in the next 6 months! I am not a Gamer, but work out of my house doing lots of 2d/3d cabinet design/space planning work, spreadsheets, surfing the internet, also keep 6-8 websites updated using Adobe Suite Software, etc. What say the LinusTechTips community? Thanks!

I never really redecorated my space through high school or made significant tech purchases so now I’m sort of stuck at the bottom with a crap pc and a room that’s about 5-6 years younger mentally than I am. So I want to re-do my whole room and I also want to get a top of the line pc, but that takes a lot of money. So I guess the question is: what would I miss out on if I wait (16 months) to get everything? It’s me looking in and seeing counterstrike and streaming and what not and that’s what I want to be a part of but I haven’t been a part of it in so long and I don’t want to miss out. Or will it not be that bad if I wait that long? I hope it doesn’t sound snobby to say I want to get it all in one purchase. It’s just to really refresh my space, it looks new and all the stuff in it is new. Out with the old in with the new. Just let me see your thoughts please. Thanks.

So with all the CPU craziness from INTEL this year with literally 5 different CPU Chipsets coming out in less that 18 Months (Skylake, Skyake X, Kabylake, Kabylake X, Coffeelake), and with Miners snatching up cards for gamers I thought I would share my thoughts and start this obviously polarizing....um poll. Now as I always say if you NEED a new computer right not completely disregard this thread. But I am going to share my thoughts on why I think people should wait 3-4 months right now to build a new pc. (Again unless you need something like RIGHT now) 1. CPU releases - April 12th we get our first batch of Ryzen 2nd gen cpu's with the rest releasing in April. These also have APU's (like HD graphics for Intel) which will provide more options for consumers. Intel is also coming out with their official coffeelake release with their new chipset and supposedly 8 core coffeelake. So it makes sense to hold off to see what both sides have to offer. 2. GPU prices - Now I don't have anything against anyone trying to make extra money, but holy christ we gamers are hurting right now. You can't find a GPU thats not inflated (if you can find one) even the high end Nvidia gpus are up $50-$100 or more over MSRP. I don't think mining is going anyway anytime soon, but we should hopefully have better stocks at the end of Q1 increasing availability and bringing down price. 3. New CES releases - Besides CPU's and GPU's there is a slew of peripherals, and cases coming out, and you might as well see what options you will have in the next 3 months. 4. Tax returns (For those who get them) - For those of you who can't budget, tax return season is always a financial windfall. In fact many businesses bank on this. During this time many sales come out to get consumers to purchase their products so waiting for some competitive pricing options, and have more money to spend is never a bad thing. Feel free to pick your poll option, or other and leave comments below.

I'm looking to upgrade my motherboard and CPU, and I'm having trouble deciding between getting a 6600K and a Z170 board, or waiting for AMD's Zen. I've been in need of a new PC for a while, and while I could hold off and wait a couple months, I'd much rather upgrade soon. I just don't want to upgrade now, and then regret it once something better for around the same price comes around. Any suggestions or useful information would be appreciated.

So I'm truly not sure if this is a "thing" or if it is a problem with my setup. When I press the power button on my computer, i hear my optical drive turn on, and hear my hard drives begin to spin, swell as my fans. but it takes 22-ish seconds for the American Megatrends logo to show up. It then, within a second, shows up with the windows boot screen. My rig specs can be seen below. thanks - mider EDIT: My HDD LED light IS connected and displays solid until the bios flashes, then it acts normally

There seems to be a big split in the PC community about waiting for Pascal/Polaris to upgrade your GPU. Some people say that if you wait for the next big thing, you'll always be waiting. Or that developers wont even implement the new features anyway. At least those are the common arguments of naysayers. Personally, I am on the side of waiting (for pascal). But for me, Pascal is special case. I wouldn't wait for the next line of GPUs if they weren't making such a large generational shift. I think people aren't taking this into account. This is the first time in a while (I can't remember since when) that they're changing the manometer process the chips are produced at. This means more power in the same amount of space. Also these cards will feature a new type of VRAM, HBM. While the change might not be monumental, it's going to be better than the DDR5 we've been stuck with forever. Also I hear rumors about GDDRX coming to newer cards as well. While I think that these new cards wont push the best titles at 4k 144hz yet, I do think a 1070 (guessing the name, but I aim for a 970 tier card with HBM) Pascal card will run (my) 1080p at super ultra 666sex FPS at 1 BILLION Hertz maximum refresh rates all the babes will love. What do you think? Is this generation special and worth waiting for? Or is no generation worth waiting for?

Hi, this is my first thread so apologies if I mess it up. I have a i7-4790k that I'm going to overclocked that is cooled by some Corsair AIO, I forgot which one it was, but its a 240mm rad. Since I can't afford to buy another CPU I want to be extremely careful. I'm planning to stress test it for 1 day. Ao if I started stress testing it today, would I wait until Monday is over or stop on Monday at the time I started it today (example: started stress test @ 7:00PM, stop the stress test @ 7:00PM tomorrow)? I feel like the second option is the right one, but I would like the forum's thoughts. Thanks in advance

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($164.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($24.88 @ OutletPC) Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($176.99 @ SuperBiiz) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Blue 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($38.99 @ SuperBiiz) Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($67.88 @ OutletPC) Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($73.89 @ OutletPC) Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 270X 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card ($147.19 @ Micro Center) Power Supply: Fractal Design Integra M 750W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($96.98 @ Newegg) Other: Game Daemon 6004 ($55.00) Total: $841.80 This is my gaming/everyday setup. I am currently playing only 1080p Diablo 3, HotS and Lineage 2 and dipped my head into some Fallout 4 and GTA V, on reasonable settings. I've been thinking of pimping it out a little. I will be getting the NZXT Kraken x61 as a birthday gift (basically free), and thought I might buy a flashier case (H440, Enthoo Luxe) and some LED fans/strips just for show. But then it got me thinking, is there any way I could spend that money on a possible upgrade? The first thing that came to mind is evidently, a new GPU, but do I really NEED it? With the total amount that I would spend on glamour parts I could probably get a GTX 970 (I wouldn't want to buy a mid GPU just for few FPS increase) and now I'm stuck on what to do. (basically, is it worth buying a gtx 970 for gaming 2-3 hours after work?) I'm planning on building a high-end Intel/Nvidia pc late next year, and for the amount of gaming I'm currently doing, my current setup will probably(?) be ok until then. I'll probably end up re-using the new case I'm going to buy now. So, I just want to hear some opinions from the more experienced users here, should I buy parts just for looks(maybe even re-use the Kraken and/or case in the future) or should I get an upgrade(if so, what?) for ~300$? btw: I'm from Germany, so prices would be in euros, evidently. I just didn't know how to set PCPartpicker to euro.

Hi I need help, my power supply that I've had for a couple months now is suddenly giving me trouble. If I turn my computer off, I have to wait a day or 2 to turn my computer back on or it won't turn on. If I try to turn it on before the alloted time my keyboard lights up and I get a light on my mobo, but nothing else. I've tried different troubleshooting methods, but nothing has worked. I'm a college student so I don't have a budget for a new pay at the moment and I need my pc for school work. I hate having to leave my pc on for days or be forced to wait days before I can turn it on again, any suggestions? This Christmas, I'm considering pulling the trigger and blowing some money on a 4GB GTX 970 from EVGA. Coupled with a fresh install of Windows (Windows 10), it should be a nice upgrade. But, if we're being honest, the 770 is still not a slow card. I don't want to part with it after only a year. I'm not seeing my performance lacking at all - GTA:V on Very High to Ultra is 60 FPS solid, Witcher 3 on Ultra is 60 FPS solid, even my ridiculously over-modded Skyrim is getting anywhere from 30-40 (and that is truly the only game that would benefit hugely from a 4GB card.) If I don't blow on this, should I wait for another year or even two, and then go for a complete rebuild, or get a monster card. Or perhaps I could finally get myself a Moto 360. Or maybe I could just be sensible and save it for a rainy day. Please give me your input, and thanks a lot.

Guys is it worth waiting for Radeon 390x with the new thing called "HBM Stacked Memory" that is up to 9X Faster than GDDR5 memory OR Going for Titan X. Will 390x be 9x better than Titan X ? I dont know when 390X will be available on my contry so .... hmm
