Hello all. My office has currently gone live with Yealink T54W VoIP phones in one location with a few more locations to follow in the coming weeks. All phones connected via Ethernet have no problems connecting and provisioning. I have one phone that does not have an Ethernet jack handy that I'd like to connect via Wi-Fi. I'm able to connect to the network fine but it's unable to obtain an IP address. I have tried setting the MAC address of the phone to a static IP on our Sonicwall to no avail. I have also enabled constant NAT through the Sonicwalls VoIP settings and disabled Enable SIP Transportation as suggested by some on the Sonicwall forums. We are using Ubiquiti APs throughout the office connected to a Netgear L2 (I believe but will confirm when back on site) 48 port switch. All network equipment is running it's most current official release firmware.

Currently I live with my grandparents and we can only get Comcast in our area. Lately the phones have been failing but the internet and cable has continued to function fine during these phone outages. I have decided for several reasons that I want to replace the modem router combo rented from Comcast with my own, preferably one without extra "smart" features, and setup a old computer I have kicking around so I can use something like Google Voice for the landlines. Problem is I have 0 idea where to start, I could use some advice here. Our internet plan caps out at something like 120mbps down and 12mbps up and we need the cable service still.

So i've got a router on one end of the house and a cable connecting it to a 2nd router on the other end. One is the main router the other is just using the others internet connection to expand the wireless. The wireless overlaps so there are no gaps where connection could be lost. But whenever I'm on Skype or Facetime, if I move from one end of the house to the other, it stops the call for a few seconds or it degrades the quality significantly. I figure that's because my phone is switching from one router to the other. Is there any way I can prevent this and how? Thanks

Title. I have no idea why, but only in VoIP calls is the audio just horrible. When I do not use Bluetooth it sounds just fine on the speakers. Using Discord. Have the latest version of Android for this phone. Discord is up to date. I messed around with every Discord setting I could find and didn't fix anything. I looked this up and numerous other people face a similar problem but their solutions were inapplicable to my situation. I'd really like full help with this.

I'm interested in this for a wireless solution for using headphones on VoIP's, so I'm wondering how the quality/background noise is for things such as discord.

Don't know if this is the right place for this so I apologize if its not. So for awhile I've been considering getting a basic VoIP plan for my humble abode. Upon browsing I came across 1-VoIP and was very delighted to see that they offer a basic 500 minute a month plan for the US at around 9 USD. No contract and all. https://www.1-voip.com/ I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them at all. Furthermore, being new to VoIP in general I was wondering how it worked. I have a Verizon Fios router/gateway that I bought and I saw that if you get a plan they send a router and an adapter which is what I assume your hand set phones would plug into. Although I'm assuming I can just keep using the internet router that I currently have and plug the adapter into one of the Ethernet ports of my Verizon Gateway/router? https://www.1-voip.com/residential-voip-value.php Thanks.

Hi LTT Community! So I'm a student network administrator at a daycare close to where I live (I'm a high school senior) and they are looking for a phone solution for each teacher room. I already have a fully constructed network with 36 wired devices, 32 of which are network cameras, and our current 9U rack is completely full pretty much. We're looking for a custom solution for a VoIP phone system that connects to the network like any other device and I can set room extensions and redirection as needed. This upgrade will be part of a 1:1 computer to classroom ratio initiative where there's a computer in every classroom, so I'll be making new PoE gigabit ethernet drops and some regular gigabit drops for some additional client computers. We're planning on installing a full-height rack in a dedicated room with a lock and key, with a couple fiber patch panels for long-distance runs. One end of the building will have it's own 48-port PoE switch and a 10 gigabit fiber run to the other side of the building where the new server room will be constructed. Each teacher will have an active directory account on the local network so they can access their documents for their classroom individually. A Dell Poweredge R710 12-core will be installed to handle an 8TB RAID-10 array file server and new surveillance server. Our current server works fine with 2TB in RAID-1 but it gets so hot in the rack it's in right now. Core i7-6800K CPU's get hot at 100% usage. Any info would be helpful! TIA! Cam

Hey all, I have a job interview in a couple of hours and I'm wondering if it's worth using a stand alone mic instead of my phone. I use a CAD U37 USB mic daily(pretty average) and I'm pretty sure i can use it with a Type C adapter. Is this worth it or am i way overthinking this and need to calm down? Job is at a phone repair shop but it's the first time anyone's responded to my application in months.

I'm looking for advice on a network setup for an office with around 40 people. We're a consultancy and I'm a data scientist, not an IT expert but as the only tech enthusiast in the office it's fallen to me to try and sort out the network in our new office. I'm pretty good as far as PC hardware goes and building servers etc. but I know very little about networking so I could do with some help. We currently have a ~100 Mbit DSL connection with the ISP provided modem-router combo and a network switch feeding ethernet ports and 2 wireless APs around the office. We make a lot of VoIP calls (mainly Skype for Business and Webex) but we experience dropouts and dips in quality pretty frequently. Our general internet traffic is just web browsing, people listening to Spotify and syncing files to SharePoint Online with the occasional large download. I've tried setting up the QoS options on the ISP's router to prioritise VoIP but it didn't seem to do anything. My boss is game for getting a second DSL connection but not sure that's 100% necessary. From my own research I have some options below but I don't know what's best and what hardware to get. Keep a single DSL connection, get an enterprise router with proper QoS support, put ISP's router into bridge mode and use as modem (is it worth getting a standalone modem as well?). Get a second DSL connection, get a dual WAN enterprise router (Cisco RV340?) and setup QoS to send all VoIP traffic through a single connection and keep everything else on the other connection. Option 1 but with a high-end consumer router? Something else? Any suggestions on the above or what routers are good would be much appreciated! Thanks

Hello! I'm in need of some assistance and I really hope someone can help me out here. I can start with saying that I have a small company and do some small jobs here and there to get some extra money. My latest job was to replace a traditional phone system in a small local grocery store with a VoIP system and due to the type of store it is the HQ of the chain has only approved one provider (Swedish, since I'm in Sweden) if you want to have it connected to their network and internet. Since the store did not want to get a separate connection and separate equipment this is what they had to choose from. Here is my problem, when they were using POTS they had a button underneath each register that they could push if they felt like they were threatened or had some other issues that required the action of all the staff members in the store. If they pushed this button they rang all the numbers in store at the same time. We currently have a group setup on the server that does the same and for the moment we have a speed dial button on the phones in each register that dial this group. The problem here is that there is no way to hide that this button has been pushed, plus you hear it ringing from the speaker. What I was thinking of doing, if someone can guide me in the right direction or even help me out completely is to install a SIP client on a raspberry pi and with a small pyton script (or something along those lines) dial that group that we have setup on the server if two of the pins on the pi gets shorted. It doesn't have to be a raspberry pi it can be anything that can do what I explained without hearing a dial tone when it's connecting to all the phones. I am totally open to a solution that is pre built to dial one number or one group with the push of a button. I was thinking of something along the lines of an SIP capable intercom if you can disable the speaker in it, but haven't found something that I like. To be clear, any idea is a good idea so please help me out! Just to make it clear, this setup is separate from the alarm setup we have that goes to the security provider and 112 (911).

Hello I was wondering if you can use your 2.4/5.0 GHz WiFi card to use the VoIP service. I want to connect directly to my Ethernet port on my FTTP modem but it only has 1 active port for 1 Ethernet connection and so is it possible to use my Ethernet and then use WiFi card as a bridge so I can keep my VoIP connected. Using WiFi Instead of Ethernet. Example Image Here

I was wondering how anyone can setup a Google Voice account while being outside the US nowadays. Some years ago a VPN did the trick. When that was patched a US based free VoiP phone number bypassed their registration requirements. Now most of VoiP number providers are, either blacklisted by Google or require a monthly fee. Any ideas? I myself use Twilio, 1 buck per month, but no cost is always better than any cost.

A week ago I started experiencing huge packet loss in online games and discord sometimes it is just a spike other times it sticks for a while, I was going to call my ISP to test my line but the thing is my router wasn't acting right. It is echolife HG520b came free with my ISP subscription and it has been on for 2-3 years, recently (before the packet loss thing happened) I wasn't able to access http://192.168.1.1 and the only way to access it was to reset my router also sometimes it just restarts on its own. Should I call my ISP to check my line or just buy a new router since this looks like symptoms of a dying router?

Hi everyone. Looking for some help or suggestions. I work in IT for a Farm Insurance company in Langley. We have recently replaced our phone system and have decommissioned our prior Digium-based phone system. Our prior phone system is complete with 2 PBX's and about 60 desk phones and is in perfect working order, however Digium will no longer be actively supporting these models (hence the replacement). We need to recoup some IT budget so I've listed this system for sale on CL and Kijiji. We haven't had any bites though. I've been keeping an eye on eBay to see what kind of activity is had for VOIP phones and/or PBXs and specifically anything by Digium, but those listings always have 0 bids and don't appear to sell. We've reached out to our partner vendors and contacts but there isn't any interest in reselling this and taking it off our hands. Does anyone know of any Phone system resellers we could get in touch with? Or perhaps a Small Business who could use a functioning phone system? Perhaps we could donate to a local non-profit but it is also difficult to determine the ones who could use a phone system or have the technical expertise to get it setup and running. Would appreciate any tips or leads that we could follow as straight-posting to the classifieds isn't really working. Thanks.

Hello, How can I enable the VoIP/Telephone function in this ISP provided device without using it as a modem? Normally the DSL cable needs to be connected in the back for the device to connect to the server. https://imgur.com/a/nKbgGwQ Is there a way to set a new WAN connection that can bridge the link required for the VoIP feature through the DSL or one of the LAN/Ethernet ports (as a client)? The LAN Grouping option can then be used to bind the new connection to the required port (fourth image in the album). Thank you.

Hey guys, I'm a Canadian studying in England and my current mobile plan in the UK is with EE. It includes unlimited talk/text and 22GB of data, but most importantly it also comes with free roaming in the EU/EFTA states, as well as Canada, the USA, Australia, and New Zealand. Since I'll be back in Canada for the summer and mobile plan prices are atrociously high--not to mention I'll have to be paying my UK plan anyways due to the 1 year contract--I was wondering if there was a good VOIP application I could use while in Canada instead of getting another SIM (I don't care if it's paid). I'm looking for something that offers me a Canadian phone line that includes RELIABLE (key word) voice and texting since I'll have enough data to sustain both while roaming. I have an iPhone by the way. Thanks in advance!

I do a fair bit of virtualization, a lot less gaming than I used to, more and more scraping, and voip -- sometimes all at the same time -- I know... yolo. I had 16 GB of RAM, but was starting to feel it drag. It isn't dragging anymore, but now I want to squeeze every last bit of performance out of this system. Where do I start? 3rd party software? Power profiles? Advanced system settings? Is there a knob somewhere I can crank up to the max? In VirtualBox I literally increase memory allocated by using a slider. What about my in native system, Windows 10? Other key specs i7-7700HQ @ 2.8 GHz 250 GB SSD to boot 1 TB HD Storage GTX 1050 ti Something else cool that I can't think of here Oh, by the way, I'm on a 32-bit operating system. JK, its 64. All suggestions are super welcome, eh!

My sister lives in UAE and I am in india so there is no way for us to video chat for free, services like skype, whatsapp all are banned from providing VoIP service there. So i was wondering if it is possible to use a WebRTC client hosted in Heroku or AWS might be able to by pass the restrictions. Sice WebRTC is a standard protocol and it serves over TLS i though it might work. What are your thoughts on this. or is there any other custom self hosted services out there which can accomplish my requirements. EDIT:- They have banned the use of VPNs also https://www.zdnet.com/article/getting-caught-in-the-uae-using-a-vpn-will-cost-you-over-500000/

I get severe lags on VoIP services (Discord, TS, Skype) depending on my CPU game usage. This starts out at slight lags when playing League of Legends capped with 15-25% to severe lags at uncapped 20-30%. Witcher 3 didnt cause any lags, usage was around 20-25%. Black Desert puts the usage at 40% and causes severe lags. Benchmarks (Passmark, Cinebench, CPU-Z) completly blocked the connection but only once and i couldnt reproduce it. Im running: Ryzen 5 3600 MSI Tomahawk Max (BIOS 1.0.0.4)

There will soon be a new ISP where I am and they require me to get a router of my own. Additionally my current ISP tells me that most of the Problems that I have with them atm are because of the router they send us a few years back.. so either way I will have to get a new router. I don't know all that much about routers and what makes a good one, but in the past I was told more than once that the problems I encountered were caused by the "Fritzbox" that I was provided by the ISP I most likely will need VoIP, an answering machine, Wlan and maybe some kind of mesh since one wLan isn't enough to reach every corner of the house. If possible I would like to spend a maximum of 350-400$ and I wouldn't mind paying less. Oh and something without gaming in the Title would make it easier to get it partly reimbursed form taxes
