I tried this. Game only renders on the desktop not in the headset. I was able to pull up the desktop inside the headset and see beatsaber opened, but not interact(it treats my vr headset like a mouse) i wouldnt mind low resolution. And slow gameplay. Headsets a vive.

Hi there, My Steam VR compositor always breaks on my desktop, so I wanted to stream from my laptop and use its 1650 gpu. However, the laptop is not the best and so I want to take the VRChat camera output and push that into my larger PC which can handle the streaming etc. How would I do this? I have a capture device as well on the desktop so I can take the input from the laptop and put it into the OBS that way, but how do I capture the VRChat output specifically? Thanks, Eli

Hi there, As mentioned in the title, my vive cosmos is sometimes preventing my computer from starting, the motherboard reporting with 1 long beep and 4 short beeps, indicating that the fan or something is not running. I know for sure that the fan does run when I play VR games and so on and it looks like it is just a startup issue. Sometimes its a hit or miss and I am able to start the computer with the vive cosmos plugged in after multiple restarts. Could you please help me in solving this issue? I do not want to wear out the connectors all the time having to unplug and replug just so that my PC can start. Thanks, Eli Specs: Motherboard: Asus Pro-Art B550 Creator VR: Vive Cosmos (Original blue version with inside out tracking, not the one that comes with the Steam bases)

Alright, So I plan on buying a used HTC Vive off Craigslist for $400, yes it's low, also an hour drive away. but that's why i'm here. What is the best way to test an HMD? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5577G with a 4gb GTX 1050(desktop is better, see profile for specs), clearly not VR ready but would it work to test in a Starbucks or something? What are some other things I should be looking for? (also not sure where to post this, HMD = Head Mounted Display so i'm posting here. mods feel free to move or delete)

I use an Oculus quest 2 to play PC VR games using Oculus Link. It works great! I have had basically no issues with it running on my PC. I think i will use it to play PC VR games for a long time. Eventually, however, I will want to upgrade. What headset do i choose? The Vive headsets don't seem to out preform the Quest 2 in any way. And even if they do, I don't know which specific model does so. I've heard the Vive pro does well, but it's extremely over priced. And the Valve Index is too far out of my price range ATM. I'm willing to save up for any of these headsets, but I just want to narrow down which one I should buy. Any advice would be helpful!

Hi, I've tried using a oculus development kit 2 for a school project on unity, but I can't get it to work on my machine. First of all this is the first time i've tried to set up a VR headset. First when I plugged it in the light was blinking orange and blue and the screen was black. So I installed all the packages in my unity project and the unity folder, now it isn't blinking and connecting/disconnecting all the time anymore. But when I try launching dreamdeck just to verify it works well I get a blue screen. My computer Asus ROG Flow x13 (2021): Ryzen 7 5800HS, 16Go, 1650 (Max-Q) (I know the graphics card is barely supported for VR) and I deactivated the energy saving to only use the Nvidia chip. I've tried to plug the headset directly into my computer and through my usb-c dock resulted in the same shenanigans. I know there was a probleme with ASUS motherboard and USB driver but a driver solves the problem and I sure hope that my drivers aren't from 2017 since my laptop is only 2 month old. Is my computer doomed ? Or is it just the DK2 that isn't supported anymore ? That was 1 week ago now I have access to a Vive Cosmos and it is far better no blue screen !! (Hurray) games kind of launched but there is nothing i shown in the headset, (I tried using a dell usb c hub since i don't have any HDMI to DP adapter). Can I use this laptop for VR ? Thanks for your help

Hello everyone, I was hoping for some guidance on VR headsets. I've saved up a good amount of "fun money" over the last 2 years which I would like to spend on a VR setup, so price is less of a problem for me, as long as its not outrageous compared to competitors (I'm looking at you Pimax). I already have a computer which should be more than capable of running any current gen headset from what I can tell (2080 Super + 3900X) so I can afford to splurge on the headset and peripherals. With that said, I want the best experience using the headset I can get from currently available products. I don't necessarily want the fanciest headset, I want the headset that I can use as a daily driver, if I could realistically use it as a 'virtual office' space for 5+ hours a day that would be ideal, I also place a high value on the 'It just works' aspect even if that means less frills. I was hoping you fine folks could help me figure out which headset that might be as I'm having some difficulty understanding the product stacks of some manufacturers, and how important of a human factor some of the specs are as I've really only been able to test drive the earlier headsets from library/school rentals etc. Currently, I am leaning towards one of either the Valve Index, or one of HTC's headsets, though I'm open to others. This is because I think the Index or the Vives fit that 'it just works' model I'm after. I don't however understand a) HTC's product stack; I don't know which headsets are aimed at consumers and which ones are aimed at developers or some specific niche use. I don't mind paying the high price tags of any of HTCs headsets, but I don't really understand what tradeoff I'm making if I choose a Cosmos, Pro, or Focus model. Are the "Pro" headsets strict upgrades to the cosmos? is the focus model just a gimmicky eye tracking thing I'll never care about? b) How much weight should I place on frame rate and resolution? My intuition is that I should probably value fps over most everything (and thus choose an Index), but If someone has any experience with both a Cosmos and an Index and could give me a quick comparison of the eye-comfort from the resolution/fps tradeoff I would greatly appreciate it. c) It's my understanding that the FOV of essentially every headset is problematic. With that in mind, should I prioritize it as much as FPS? d) what is the optimal number of base stations? 4? e) Cable management; what is the best method, and where do I find quality products for the purpose like extra long replacement headset cables or overhead cable rigs? f) different controller schemes. I'm guessing some of this is personal preference, but are there controllers, or other peripherals, which are highly recommended? Relatedly, I have audiophile grade headphones, will I be able to use them with VR headsets? Are the built in speakers any good at all? Finally, I'm in the fortunate circumstance of also buying a home. So, I would like to know anyone's recommendation for room design/size that has worked well for them. Thanks everyone.

Hello! For months now I have had trouble getting the headset to be tracked by the base stations. I've tried buying a new vive headset. I've tried buying new base stations. I've covered reflective surfaces. I tried reinstalling all software. Nothing. I don't get it. Everything worked perfectly until I moved. Nothing got banged around. Just unplugged then plugged back in at new home. I've tried just about everything I can think of. Any help is appreciated. The headset manages to connect for a few seconds sometimes then it flings me off the map and tries to search again. Here is my pc setup https://pcpartpicker.com/user/chase909/saved/xCR9TW

Hey there, Is it possible to use the In-out tracking Vive Cosmos with VR controllers that use the base station? What I mean is not having the Cosmos attached to the base station system, it will use the In-out system, and have only the controllers use the base station system (not using the default controllers of course). Thanks, Eli

Hi i am new to vr. And well everytime i put my vr headset in it picks this up as mian monitor even in bios. My main monitor uses a dvi to hdmi. My vr headset is the original htc vive. No matter what i do i keep getting my desktop in the vr, even in direct display. I cannot play anything let alone see steam vr as a result. On ubuntu. Is there some 2ay to swap the display order? So it detects the dvi as main and hdmi as secondary? And by dvi i mean the rectangular port with a diagonal corner. The picture is the monitor issue. I used the options menu for refrence. Yes that is 1080p. I could disable the display in settings using work space switcher to get to corner to confirm, per os spasifically but would that make it not work with steam? That also doesnt solve the bios issue. edit 1: the disabling of display in the os makes the headset not work at all.

Hi Forum, tl;dr: Vive is not following EU Warranty Law and claiming that perspiration has caused water dammage to the headset in just 7 months and thus wants to charge for the repair and charge to return the device without it. After watching Linus' videos on Beat Saber, I thought to myself, what better way to get through the lockdown than to get a VR headset. Looking at which ones were available, I ended up going for the HTC Vive Cosmos. Early October, the headset started to have issues, with the Vive Console app no longer recognising the headset. However, this was around the same time MSI released a BIOS update, so after I came back from visiting the family for 2 weeks, I tried to update the BIOS and it started working again. Little did I know, the problems would come back after a few more weeks - this time even reinstalling Steam VR and Vive Console didn't fix it. The cameras during the room setup no longer showed up, so I contacted Vive's chat support. They ran me through some diagnostics and ultimately asked me to send in my headset for repair. A few days later, I hear back from a company called CTDI in Romania who are apparently the center performing the repair saying: I was shocked. The headset has not been anywhere near water. My only explenation for this is that some sweat must've gotten into the headset, following a Beat Saber session. After replying to them that I was shocked by this, they provided some pictures - see 2 of them attached. After pointing out that this must've happened through normal use, the support rep just aggressively replied: So, I started to do some research and found out that this seems to be a common issue. Warranty Policy change It seems like this is something that HTC is clearly aware of, as their old warranty policy had a carve-out in for water dammage due to "perspiration". However, this has been removed (see point 7 under warranty limitations) in the latest Warranty Policy on the website. There are countless posts on Reddit regarding the issue, [1, 2, 3] to name a few. Support contacts So I got in touch with @Vive_Care on Twitter, as many posts mentioned that they are a better team to get in touch with. They quickly replied, asking me to move it to an email where they replied that they sadly couldn't help but had forwarded it to their EU counterpart. The EU team got in touch the next morning with what was a clearly canned message: Other cases: On Twitter, someone pointed me to another Youtuber, Sebastian Ang, who had gone through this entire saga with Vive in the past and was able to get it replaced after a prolonged fight with the support team and videos shaming HTC Vive publicly. Now, as I don't have 50k followers on Youtube, I was wondering if anyone here has any advice on how to get HTC Vive to follow EU warranty law and repair the device under warranty. In the meantime, based on this experience, I strongly suggest people avoid HTC Vive products - I know I will.

Hi All! This is my first time posting here but I was hoping someone out there would have some information on the issue I am having. I have a custom built gaming desktop with the following hardware: ASUS Z170I PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 FE DirectX 12 ZT-P10800A-10P 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5X PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support ... Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80662I76700K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics ... G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Intel X99 Platform Extreme ... Crucial MX300 2.5" 525GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT525MX300SSD1 CORSAIR CS-M Series CS550M 550W 80 PLUS GOLD Active PFC Haswell Ready ATX12V & EPS12V Modular Power Supply My goal is to enable virtualization on my MOBO for the purpose of running Hyper-V. I would build my computer with a clean install of Windows 10, do all Windows Updates, update all the drivers for the GTX 1080. And when I run the HTC VIVE setup, I would get a BSOD during the setup (specifically when the drivers for the Head Gear itself is installing) OR I would get a BSOD the next time I reboot/boot my computer. The BSOD does not give an error code or stop code, just a sad face. It would then prompt me to "Restore" to an earlier point. This will work 50% of the time and when it restores to an earlier point, it would be a point before Steam VR is installed. Other times it would loop in diagnosing the error and not being able to resolve it. When this happens, I cannot boot into safe mode, cannot do a repair, and cannot recover from this. It would loop in a BSOD and have no actual stop code or error code. When viewing the event log, the error I get is error 0x0 "your computer unexpectedly shut down due to a crash, power loss, or error" ***paraphrasing*** My computer works fine if I have virtualization enable on the MOBO and running Hyper-V with multiple VMs My computer works fine if I do not have virtualization enabled on the MOBO and running my HTC VIVE VR system There always seems to be an issue if I have both configured at the same time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Source here. It also reveals the estimated sales of the HTC Vive and the Occulus Rift, which stand at 420k and 240k respectively. This is incredible news, especially since the PC VR headsets seem to have stalled. Hopefully it means VR will continue to become more mainstream.

Source: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/lg-making-vr-hmd,33755.html LG is to show off a new HMD at Valve's booth during GDC this year and is looking for feedback: No details have been announced other than the fact that it's a VR headset and that it will support SteamVR judging from this tweet by Chet Faliszek: It will be interesting to see what this LG HMD is like when fully available and what improvements in tech Valve have done since the HTC Vive's launch.

SteamVR Setup works fine, both lighthouse bases are detected (using the b and c channels), the Headset, and both controllers. What happens when I turn the controllers on (Let's call it X and Y). I turn controller X on, and the SteamVR dialog box shows it as a solid green icon meaning it's being properly tracked. I then turn on Y, which also is detected and not showing any signs of trouble, but the first controller (no matter if I use X or Y first to turn it on), the first to be turned on is then showing a flashing icon basically saying it can detect it, and it's connected, but not trackable. I even tried to play an dsee what happens and basically within the Vive Headset, I will see my other controller (the one not useable), in VR space, however it doesn't move, it basically just shows the controller where it was when the second controller was connected. so say I have it on the ground to start to make sure it's being tracked and turn on both and then pick them up and put my HMD on, I wil see both controllers, however it would show the "non trackable" controller as being on the floor (where it was when it was first synced, even though it's in my hand. I've tried unpairing, repairing, all devices, not just the controllers. All parts including the HMD, Lightboxes, and of course the controllers unpair and then it does the same thing as I previously explained. So next step Uninstall SteamVR and start from scratch. No dice. Keep in mind the last time I did this and had this problem was about 3 or 4 months ago (basically I had a fire in my apartment and had to move a lot of stuff out, so of course I wanted to play it but no only was it just a hectic time, I was having trouble with my last PC build. For the most part it's the same, 16GB RAM vs 32GB and a different motherboard, but 6700K and 1080 Strix (and just swapped out those parts as they were having problems...later found out the RAM was fine, it was the motherboard RAM slots, but no matter). Has anyone else encountered this and if so please tell me if you know a simple fix, because I realize not everyone has a Vive or Oculus, but the point is, I would prefer answers from actually Vive users (preferably those that have encountered the same problem). If you don't own one but have information that you are pretty sure will help, feel free to help. I just don't want speculation, as I've speculated enough and tested and tested this problem. There is only so much speculation one can make without testing it themselves.

So I have a little bit of money and I've come across a dilemma. I found a sick deal on Craigslist for an HTC Vive for $500, nothing missing or broken but I realize VR is a relatively new area in gaming and it doesn't exactly have the largest or most supported library yet. On the other hand I can get a PS4 and some games for less than or equal to $500. Now to me the obvious choice is to go for the PS4 because I can actually get games with it and it could be cheaper plus it's a whole different console not just a fancy edition to PC. BUT I think VR is freaking awesome and I would love to try it but I don't want it to be a quick little, "Oh this is cool but I'm just going to go back to regular gaming," kinda thing. So any opinions on VR, what I should choose and why would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hey guys, about 2 weeks ago I bought HTC Vive. I like it a lot! However there are not that many games for it. But I do enjoy it a lot though. It's a lot fun to see your relatives, parents and friends try it for the first time! What are your thoughts on it? Performance, games? Any suggestions on games that are a must-try? Cheers!

Hello People! My family and I have some interest in getting a VR headset. We are curious about the party games available on either platform. There is discussions all over this forum and other forums about pros vs cons but I have a few specific things I'm interested in, please provide input based on my questions below: **1-) What games are fun Party Games for each platform? Could you recommend one platform over the other based on Party Games (Something we want to be able to hang out together). Are there any Multiplayer games for people with 2 headsets that you could play with each other, are these online based or could you do a LAN gaming session? This is the main thing I am interested about. If you haven't tried both platforms but have some favorite games, then throw out some titles and reasons why you like it. 2-) In terms of quality how do the Rift VS Vive compare on these three things. -Quality of screen/Immersion (FOV?) -Controllers, which ones have people liked more? I've heard GREAT things about the Rift controllers. -Comfort of headset, I have a small form factor PC that I am going to turn into a Backpack PC so the Tether will NOT be an issue, but how about the rest of the feel.

I just got my vive this afternoon and am trying to get the desktop view in steamvr to show work but all I see is an infinite ammount of what the left and right eye are displaying. On the monitor I have to have the view of the two eyes in fullscreen in order for anything to show in the HMD. Whats the trick to get this to work. Thanks

What cables will I need to setup the HTC Vive in a different room? Please note the room is 50+ FT away and I do not have another outlet in my wall to set up a ethernet connection.
