First things first, my build is in my signature. Just so you know what hardware I'm working with. It's also setup with an H150i AIO and all of the fans in the case were replaced with Noctua Chromax blacks. I recently picked up a Corsair Icue Nexus to hook up to my K70 Mk.2, it allowed me to add my CPU Load, CPU Temp and GPU Temp to a screen on my keyboard so I can monitor it in real time(really cool little device) which is super convenient for me as I don't have a secondary monitor(space limitations)at this time. I noticed upon getting it higher temps then I'd like to see and my CPU load being a little higher than it should be at idle, not terrible and definitely not high enough usage or temps to be concerned about. But definitely not where they should have been. And I had noticed the Noctua fans were louder than I thought they would be. I recently rebuilt my computer into a P500A - White(about 6 months ago) when I got my 3090 as it did not fit in my Meshify C. Having only used Noctuas a handful of times and not in my own computer I didn't know exactly how quiet they were supposed to be, they were quieter than my previous fans but not by as much as I thought, so I've been fairly neutral on how I've felt about them. I thought those issues were strange but didn't think anymore of it because while gaming the temps and usage were well within in normal metrics, besides dusting the computer out and disabling some startup programs and background apps I didn't do anything else. A few days later, I start playing Far Cry 6 on launch day, max settings, DXR enabled, and at 1440p 165hz. I noticed some issues, mainly a decent bit of stuttering and getting 50fps instead of the well over 60fps I should have been getting even with DXR enabled. Also had low FPS with DXR off. The games framerate was just random and well below what similar systems were getting. So I'm monitoring temps and usage, I try some other games to make sure I'm getting my normal framerates and everything looks about right with what I have gotten in the past. I run some stress tests and leave one running overnight. In the morning after turning off the test I notice my computer is not idle like it should be. Looking at the temps and load on my Nexus I see about 40% to 50% usage on CPU even though nothing in task manager is showing what is using it, and my GPU temps are in the high 60c range. Which at idle, and with nothing open neither of those should be where they are. So I start using the computer and try to figure out what's going on and it cools down and the CPU usage drops but not all the way back down to idle. I leave it alone again and once it's idle again it ramps back up. So I do a cleanup. I run disk cleanup, glary, adwcleaner, and then Malwarebytes which I have used for years and typically only use it when I think I need to. So adwcleaner finds a couple things of adware, I clean several GB of temp files off, but then Malwarebytes hit the jackpot. The only malicious file/files on my computer was a trojan.bitcoinminer called Sound Bass I don't know how it got there or where it came from and it had been on the computer since quite possibly even before I got my 3090 and I've had it for several months. I used Malwarebytes to quarantine and remove it. Computer runs leaps and bounds better, it's quieter, cooler, and the performance is much better. Far Cry 6 with max settings, DXR enabled, and at 1440p now runs at 80 to 85fps rock solid, and runs at 100 to 115fps with DXR disabled. My idle temps and load are back to normal and every single game I have ever played since getting the 3090 and kept track of has had the FPS be a lot better, the computer is almost dead silent now when not under load or even while gaming it's much quieter and I am now happy and in love with these fans. Upon checking the last time I had ran a Malwarebytes scan on the rig was a year and a half ago. So it's possibly been on there since then and I only noticed it now due to the Icue Nexus and Far Cry 6 not running as it should on my computer. I am now going to scan my computer once a week with Malwarebytes and do a full cleanup maybe a couple times a year. It just goes to show no matter how much you know about computers and how careful you are something could still get on there without you knowing. Remember to always scan your computer even if you don't think you need to, you could possibly have a freaking bitcoin miner on it without your knowledge lol. Has anyone else ran into a similar situation? I'm curious to know if bitcoinminer trojans are common.

I have a few older hard drives that I want to use as redundant drives for miscellaneous data storage and experimentation. some of the hard drives are old in the since they were manufactured back in 2010. I am wondering if these hard drives will still work with my current system, as in I don't need any special interpreter to be able to use these drives. My second question is that since I do not know what is on these drives and am worried about any possible malware or viruses. Is there a way I can still hook up these drives to my computer directly with no expansion ports or benches, with no risk of getting the virus on my main system drives. Like a UEFI clean sweep before boot cycle or factory resetting the drive wile it is in a quarantine mode of some sort.

( not sure which sub forum to post this in, sorry if it is the wrong one) I recently discovered a virus on my laptop, so I am planning a hard drive reformat/OS reinstall so I have some questions, Can I safely copy files to a USB drive? Someone already told me to only copy over the most important files, so How would a virus manage to get on the USB drive? Should I copy the minimum amount of files to avoid accidentally copying the folder that the virus is in? Or can viruses somehow detect a USB drive and jump onto it? Could a virus get on the USB drive if I only copied individual files/pictures? These are all the questions I can think of so far if anybody knows the answers I would greatly appreciate you telling me, thank you for your time.

Greetings, i came across a these two virus'/malwares on my uncle's pc/laptop.... on briefly studying these two, i found out that is a tool used by hackers to access your machine and which may include various things including keylogger. And hurri is a virus which spreads extensively in NTFS format, which is a Windows Filing System. How would a non-power user prevent their data from such breachers? and how do i solve this... imo i feel i should format his device. If Somebody has more knowledge, Please share, Thankyou.

So my parents have always got my brothers and sisters mac-books for college and now its my turn. They say its better and macs dont get viruses and will last longer compared to windows laptops.Basically they think windows laptops will get viruses easily and break. I know this is garbage but is their any validity in the statement that macs dont get viruses? I was thinking of getting the xps 13 instead or maybe the new one with the thinner bezels. The macbooks dont even have 8th gen processors yet and I imagine in 2018 they will bump up the price. Thoughts on the everything I said and how to convince my parents on this one as my entire family buys everything apple and I am the lone exception who never usually buys apple.

I'm doing an experiment (long story as to why) that may involve going to some sketchy sites, as part of the whole point is to accumulate some viruses. I have an old PC to be the subject (or victim, more accurately), because I don't care about it or its Windows install at all. But I'm wondering: Could a virus on that PC downloaded from who-knows-where potentially infect the network/other devices on it? AKA should I not run this experiment with the PC on my home network? If so then what might be a better way of going about it? Thanks.

So im a hardware guy so i just do some overclocking and load up windows nothing fancy, but lately on chrome the search engine is snap something and on certain websites there is a really obnoxious popup. It has been a pretty constant battle but it keeps coming back. So does anyone have a legit removal method without a "free one size fits all tool you download*" *comes with more viruses

On my old laptop there is 1138 threats of malware, no kidding. My mom downloaded a bunch of Chinese apps with Trojans. Fuck me, have beat the world record of most malware?

Is there any good free antivirus that doesn't use much memory (I only have 2gigs) and has great security?. I am pretty good with my browsing habits and I currently use MSE and malwarebytes on a 4 year old laptop.

Hi so I have checked my PC for viruses with 3 different programs and they said that it had malware but they removed it. Every now and then for a split second a command prompt window will pop up and say I am in a full screen game when they pop up it will take me to the desktop. What is this and how can I fix it. FIX: It was the MySql Community installer

Hello, and thanks for reading this already! I'm trying to upload something to my school's platform (Smartschool). It's a powerpoint, like any other. While uploading, it checks for viruses. And it says "this file contains a virus". I was scared, so ran a scan with Anti Malwarebytes and Avast. They call BS, and don't find anything. Uploading in a .zip also does not work, so I have no idea what to do now. Does any of you have an idea? Thanks in advance! EDIT: Virustotalled it. No virus!

Hello Ltt forum members. Decided to run a virus scan on my computer since i have not done so since i built it. (bad idea to not scan i know..) My main harddrive where my os is installed was almost completely clean. Probably because i scan every single download. Only found 2-3 trackers. But then the scan hit my second drive which is from my old pc. One that has been with me since i was just a young consolite /F is a fitting name.. Because that's the sound i made... "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF" It found not 10. Not 50. Not even 100.. nope, it found 319 threats Of which 5 were trojans... And one was a "bomb" virus. All threats have been removed(?) by AVG. As soon as my nas arrives i'll grab all my important stuff and pop that on there before doing a complete system purge. Possibly even getting new drives. There's where question one comes in. How reliable are my results with AVG? Can i safely assume that i've killed most of the pests or is my paranoia justified? (i ask 2 clean scans later) Second question. Since installing rainmeter and being able to monitor my upload and download i've noticed some fluctuations in both up and downloads. Second long blips that range from 9b's up to 1000kbs. Is this normal? Or am i royally screwed? Could i keep going like this for a little while longer until my nas arrives? Or should i format a drive, Pop all my important stuff on there... And do a fresh install of windows? I've learned my lesson from this. No more being lazy with this stuff. Time to set up weekly scans..

When ever I go and try to uninstall a pesky virus off my drivers my computer always crashes is this normal?

So at the moment I have a WD 5400 rpm HDD ,with Win 7 installed, which has a virus bugged deep deep inside of it, and it's greatly affecting my cpu usage. So my plan was to just buy a 7200rpm HDD while I can, and upgrade to Win 8 for a nice change. But I'd also like to keep my old HDD as extra space. Although, I've been told that in order to get rid of viruses, I need a fresh install of an OS on that HDD to really get out the viruses. So if I get this new HDD and put Win 8 on it to use it as my main space, what happens to the OS on the other HDD?/Will the viruses go away? If they're still there, could the viruses spread from one HDD to the other? Thanks

Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25506020 Cryptolocker, the virus which encrypts your hard drive and demands a payment to get the encryption key, is now believed to have infected about 250,000 PCs, and the article says that The ransom demand is 0.5 bitcoins (wikipedia), so the criminals have made a lot of money from this (500 BTC if 0.4% of 250,000 paid!).

Hello, do anybody know what a pup.optional is? I've never heard of it, and I'm getting lots of them.. I tried to Google and it said it was like a web plugin, but I didn't really find a solution.

Note: No, I'm not some non-techie PC noob, this question just really got to me. And no I myself nor anybody else needs help cleaning a PC. Is it possible that some type of virus or trojan got into my system, would it be able to damage the other hardware parts such as Gpu, cpu,Psu etc.? Or does it just effect the HDD?

Any suggestions on how to not fall in the trap of becoming a script baby to solve computer problems such as Malware removal or tune up and optimizations? With how well programs run today the term script baby has come up more and more in the place I work. Things like Malwarebytes and other antivirus programs have made is easier than ever to find and delete malware. Sometimes people will only use these programs and that’s it. Are there any suggestions to not fall in the trap of scan once and done. Also known as a “script baby”. People who only run scripts to fix their problems.
