  1. On my host, my CPU turbos around 3.5-36 GHz with a base lock of 1.9 GHz. In the VM, I’m only seeing the CPU run at 1.9 GHz. My Execution cap is already set to 100% so I’m not sure what the issue is. Anyone know how to get the CPU running faster? Any help is greatly appreciated.
  2. Apologies for spelling or grammar, I'm on my phone. So earlier today I fired up one of my VMs in VirtualBox. I tried to forward a USB device, which I've done before without issue, and Windows couldn't recognize it. I had the thought that maybe it's because I had upgraded from Debian 11 to 12 as the host and maybe I needed to check for updates and maybe update the extension pack that facilitates things like USB forwarding. The extension pack in the past has always been a separate download on their site, so I headed over to VirtualBox(.)org , and it seems kind of barren. The big old download button takes you to a page with links to the source code and that's about it. The download page used to be filled with links to the extension pack, binary installers for various platforms, repo instructions for various Linux distributions, etc., and literally none of that was there. The only thing that remotely looked like a link to actually download it was for "older builds" like 6.1, but when I clicked that it just took me to a page with a couple lines explaining that the extension pack was licensed a certain way with a link to the license, but no links to actually download anything. The only way I can see that you can download it from their website now is to download the source code and build it yourself. The Debian repo I already have set up appears to be working and contains a copy of 7.0, but if I want up update the extension pack, or even set it up on a different system, I'm just out. Adding a Debian repo requires importing and trusting a signing key for that repository, none of which I can find now. I can only really think of two explanations: 1) VirtualBox is a huge net loss for Oracle and they're cutting it loose. 2) Tons of companies were using the free, personal version of it for business purposes, so they're trying to corral those people into buying a support license from them and are just removing all the free downloads from their website. Update I just tried to visit their site on my phone to double check and make sure I'm not just blind before posting this, and the whole site is down now. I don't mind using Qemu on Linux, it works fine. I just kept VirtualBox around because I only occasionally use VMs for a few very specific tasks for my personal use, and it was easier to get set up with, and when reading from a passed thru optical drive it seemed to perform a little better, at least the last time I tried comparing. I had noticed though that, the last time I tried starting a Windows 10 VM in VirtualBox, if you install the guest additions, which includes a virtual display driver, it breaks the aero/transparencies in the Windows UI so that weird things happen, like the background of the start menu being completely transparent. And it has been that way for a while. Maybe they are just abandoning it altogether.
  3. Hello guys, Ok so here me out, this will be a wild ride (it has been for me atleast). With about 4 days scraping every corner of the internet, I am getting to the border of what I could do by myself. I am trying to emulate a MacOS X Tiger or atleast with Rosetta working on it so I can make a very old software (early 2000s) work for my job. They got a bit lazy and now they don't have backups for this kind of tasks. The aim is to be able to have a VM that could be installed on separate computers to make the software work on computers. We also aim to get out of the Mac echosystem since we are using only windows and Linux, and this dinosaur is the last remanant piece of Apple's hardware in the office. The soft works actually with a Mac on Tiger 10.4, so this is the thing I want to emulate. SO, what have I done during these few days I already invested on this side-project? - I tried to get .iso files of MacOS and now I have basically too much of them - I managed to make High Sierra, Snow Leopard and was close to get Tiger to launch on VirtualBox 7.0.8 - tried to get my hands on QEMU on windows and in a Linux VM but I am not very proficient with the commands or the software at all - looked into emulating a PowerPC but I didn't get far as all repositories seem to be too old, or on QEMU, and I don't master this soft at all. Even if I wish I did. - Discovered that Unicorn Engine exists, but the soft I want to use is the kind of "done by a scientist 25 yrs ago just to do a thing on that computer" grade of soft. You could tell me : "Hey Geo, you have Snow Leopard running, enjoy your rosetta and have a good day!" I hoped it could be done like that, but.... Even if during the install of the Snow Leopard OS, I asked for Rosetta to be installed, it seems I don't have it anywhere in the VM, even after updating the OS in the VM (See picture below). Screen capture of the VM running Snow Leopard, with Rosetta installed but not showing any sign of life. Normally, I should see a "open with Rosetta" option, which is obviously not here. I also tried to make other older VMs, but I can't manage to get my .iso to boot on any VMs. Tiger is close to boot (I guess) but sends me these errors. Screen capture of the error on the Tiger VM , even with VM settings from an internet repository. Well so this resumes it all. The objective of this project is to get MacDiff (old software from the PowerPC era) to work, idealy on a VM that I can copy-past on multiple computers. Should be somewhat simple, but I am having quite the troublee to get it to work. Feel free to provide any advice or idea, I am not a programmer or anything, just a persone that likes working with computers in his room, so I have some limits but I think this project is cool Let's go software archeologists!
  4. Hi, My macOS VM s getting stuck before booting and I am unable to understand why. I have attached log file. Any help is much appreciated. VBox.log
  5. Alright so I am trying to make a linux virtualbox VM, I do all of the steps that every walkthrough video does, I have tried every kind of virtual disk file, both virtual chipsets, no matter what I change I always land at a completely black screen. As for the editing options, everything I type in doesn't do anything. This is the same with hyper-v on and off. Does anyone know what to do?
  6. Hey Guys, title pretty much says it all. Fresh install of Windows 10 (right after the OOBE) on a Windows 11 host using VirtualBox (6.1.30). Issue appears to happen after I install the VirtualBox Guest Additions (which include the video driver). Of course I could run it without a driver but then I cant get 1920x1080. I tested in Kali linux and it seems to work perfectly fine. Also to note, pretty much all the menus are super slow when it comes to clicking on stuff and without the driver, seems really snappy. I've already tried reinstalling windows with a newly created iso using the MediaCreationTool off of Microsoft's website. But other then that, there's not much I've found online so don't really know where to go from here. Attached is a video of the issue. 2021-11-29 17-05-05.mp4 Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys
  7. Hey, guys. We have some older systems at work that run some of our processes. The computers are all XP service pack 2 and 3 and their hardware from that era as well. I'd *like* to clone them to a virtual machine on a new computer, in lue of hardware failure. However, I haven't found a good way to do so, largely due to drivers. How should I tackle this issue? Any help would be great. I'd like to build plug and play backups in case of a failure. Thanks a bunch
  8. Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Web. Not in a hypervisor partition (HVP=0) (VERR_NEM_NOT_AVAILABLE). AMD-V is disabled in the BIOS (or by the host OS) (VERR_SVM_DISABLED). Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: ConsoleWrap Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed} Above is the error I'm getting I don't know why this is occurring. Anyone know a solution for this
  9. keeps on appearing on my windows 11 vm no matter what I do, btw here are the specs before you're gonna ask
  10. Now I'm making progress, finally got PFsense working. So what I'm trying to do is make a type of sandbox, a testing environment that doesn't communicate to the outside world, but can still get to the internet, if that makes sense. So is this IP configuration correct in the image below? I have the pfsense WAN set up as a bridged adapter, while the Windows VM adapter is set up as "internal network". The one on the left is the Windows 10 VM.
  11. So im trying to ssh into virtualbox anyone got a good way or knows how? I tried enabling second card on vb a portforwarded but got: kex_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset
  12. Question as written in title. any info is appreciated, maybe someone is working in oracle and knows something
  13. So I was running Ubuntu in virtual box. It had been awhile since I fired up this particular VM and so firefox was out of date and so was the copy of Ubuntu. I was on a website and I clicked on something accidentally that was very similar to an ad. Firefox immediately threw and error and froze, Ubuntu then threw a kernel error and Firefox then crashed Like 20 seconds passed and then it clicked in my head that everything in the VM was out of date, I just clicked on some random ad that crashed firefox in a way which could be through overloading the memory and caused kernel errors. I could literally have a kernel exploit being run. Or it could have just been a bug. Regardless due to the very systematic way things were throwing errors and crashing I killed the box after like 30 seconds. I don't think I gave it nearly enough time to do any real damage and the few accounts I had logged into on the VM all have two factor authentication. But my host PC is a different story, if it got out of the VM my life would be much more difficult. The virtualbox machine did have a NAT connection to my main PC, which was connected to the internet through a VPN. I may just be paranoid, but if it was some type of exploit how possible would it be for a sophisticated piece of malware to escape virtualbox?

  16. Hey everyone, From early october I've been using home assistant via virtualbox to control my home via a tablet and streamdeck. However as of the 22nd, that stopped as everytime i would launch virtualbox it would freeze my PC to the point i needed to restart each time. I've tried trouble shooting this but haven't got much further than it might have something to do with the network settings. I've tried: Restoring the PC from before the 22nd - This was a terrible idea with blue screens galore Unplugging and plugging back in my WiFi/Bluetooth card as I only got that last week Moving down to an earlier version of virtual box to test if it was a fault Changing the adapter type in the VM settings Here's images of the logs: https://imgur.com/a/YZlhOD2 Any assistance would be appreciated
  17. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong subsection. I've been playing around with Oracle Virtual Box for the past weeks I am using a 1080p display but the OSs only give the options for mostly 16:6 and 4:3 resolutions. the virtual Box Program itself has an option for changing the resolution of the virtual display but I can't change it:
  18. Hello, First of all, I'm assuming this build can handle the workloads below, but the first question is -- is that true? Then, can I accomplish the same goals with a cheaper build? This build was supposedly $500 at some point and is currently $721 at the Amazon link below. Maybe a build of similar quality is around $500 now? And/or can I get better results from a different build at a similar price point? Should I try for a motherboard with 4 DIMM slots? I think I forgot other questions while writing this novel, but it all kind of just boils down to "how do VMs and VR cheap pls" anyway. Parts list: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 $151.99 MOBO ASRock H410M $58.99 GPU Gigabyte GTX 1650S $271.93 RAM Patriot Viper 8GB $31.99 (pretty sure I'll actually start out with 16GB) SSD ADATA 480GB $46.99 CASE AeroCool Cylon $54.38 PSU Antec 750W $104.94 Tried to build it on pcpartpicker.com, but several parts aren't listed there. This slightly aggressive Amazon link will say "do you want to shove these parts into your cart?" and link all the items with a "don't shove them into my cart" link at the bottom. Build is from https://techguided.com/vr-ready-pc-builds/ Budget (including currency): hoping USD500 isn't a joke for my expectations, since this build was USD500 at some point, but I can maybe go up to $800 (the Amazon link has this build at $721 currently) Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Eve Online (1 instance on the host OS and 1+ in VMs, even though I can "multibox" on the host OS), Diablo 2 (3+ instances on the host OS if I find a better solution for that, probably trying to do 1 on host and 2+ in VMs), WoW Classic (1 instance on the host OS and 1+ in VMs, even though I can "multibox" on the host OS), League of Legends. One game at a time, but I'm going to multibox most games at some point. Minimum settings are fine, although if it can actually do all of that with the games at minimum settings, I assume I can run them at max settings. Other details: I'd like to meet the minimum requirements listed for Oculus Rift (i3-6100 / Ryzen 3 1200; GTX 1050Ti / RX 470) and Oculus Link (i5-4590 / Ryzen 5 1500X; I think GTX 970 and AMD 400 Series are sort of the minimum, but not every GPU above those is certified). At least one USB type A port and one type C at the USB 3.0 standard or better (type C usually means 3.0+ but doesn't technically have to). The above are "hard" requirements if that's not absurd for $500. If it is, I'll try to go up as far as $700-800, but I'll also have to consider lowering my expectations to stay around the $500 mark. 4+ USB ports at 3.0+ highly preferred. Thunderbolt 3 preferred, but maybe not reasonable at this price point. It suggested I mention what I'm upgrading from. It's an Aspire E5-575G-562T: i5-7200U @ 2500MHz (well, that's what CPU-Z says in the Specification field, but I haven't overclocked it and Core Speed for Core #0 is hovering just under 3100MHz, so idk) "Ironman_SK" mainboard 8GB single-rank DDR4-2400 & 16GB dual-rank DDR4-3200 GTX 950M 2GB When I'm going to buy: Probably Prime Day, Oct 13-14 Displays: I'd like to be able to run at least three 1080p displays at 60Hz, but I only need two physical display outputs (I'll probably only ever have three displays in Immersed, which now supports fully virtual displays on Windows, so I won't need to plug a headless display emulator into a third output). I would like to be able to have 3 games, 2 in their own VMs, visible at the same time, but that's not a hard requirement (I think GPUs still do rendering work for minimized windows, but less? although that might not be true for minimized VMs). I'm used to having one game instance visible at a time and alt-tabbing between them, and when multiboxing Diablo 2 I'll hardly ever look at the VMs anyway (I'll be "cheating" with hotkeynet or similar, but not on servers with other people). Bonus workloads: I'd also like to be able to run CoD BlOps Cold War, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76 smoothly at minimum settings, but that's less important, and it looks like if I can get anywhere near my VM and VR goals, these games will be fine.
  19. How does QEMU perform compared to VirtualBox on macOS? On my Kubuntu gaming desktop, I use QEMU/KVM for all of my virtualization due to being able to do GPU passthrough & being generally faster than VirtualBox. I’m not that familiar with macOS as this is the first time I’ve ever used it (job requirement). My coworker/mentor recently just talked about UTM, which seems interesting and might perform better on my 2016 MacBook Pro compared to VirtualBox because it only supports macOS. Only reason I’m using VirtualBox is because I needed something quick, and I know it works (VMware isn’t free at all). Edit: adding Apple Virtualization. Just saw that when I launched UTM, and I'm not exactly sure what that is or how it compares.
  20. Hello all, I have a 2019 16" MacBook Pro. I currently have Bootcamp installed for gaming purposes while on the go, however when it comes to productivity, macOS is my preferred operating system. Unfortunately, my job requires a program called BlueBeam which no longer has a macOS version, this forces me to use a VM when I need to look at the program. I tried the ever popular VirtualBox, however Windows 10 clients don't appear to have video drivers on macOS hosts leaving the Windows VM unusable. Needing a field computer quickly, I was forced to try out Parallels on a free trial and do an inspection with it, it went surprisingly well. The VM has a Travel Mode which saves on power consumption, something very important when a 16" MacBook Pro is using its Radeon graphics. Parallels also seems to have a great video driver for office work with perfect retina scaling. My only problem with Parallels is that its a costly subscription at $80/y. So my question is, are there any alternatives to VirtualBox and Parallels that are affordable/free with good video drives for office work. Thank you.
  21. Hello, I recently changed my motherboard and i want to reinstall my OS, but I am amateur in Virtual Machines and I want to learn more about them and I want some usefulness with it. How do I convert physical system into VM in VirtualBox? I tried Disk2vhd, it is on official Microsoft page so i wanted to try it, as VirtualBox uses VHD, but for some reason VirtualBox can't launch that VM and says that it failed. I tried on my additional, now external M.2 SSD that I got with older instaltion of Win10, but it didn't work, for clarification, i only selected the F:\ without any additional volumes. I'd rather stay with Virtualbox but i'm not sure how to do this and if i should switch to VMware or just their conversion software. And for second part of my title, how do I do it in reverse? Do I use something like Macrum on VM to make image of the system, and then i copy it to the drive where i want OS installed? I'm sorry for my writing, English is not my primary language. Any help would be aprecieted
  22. Budget (including currency): Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Cyberpunk, Kali Linux Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Want to be able to play games like cyberpunk 2077 on a windows virtualbox while also being able to use a kali Linux or other Linux os vm. My idea is to have something like an amd epic cpu and around 64 to 128 gb of ram and have a baseline Linux os. Then run a windows vm for gaming, and study offensive security with a vm for something like kali linux. Ideally would also be able to use the baseline linux os as a daily driver for everything else, any recommendations? Want kind of overhead would a program like VirtualBox or VMware have and how would that affect performance? Also is this idea even feasible or is there a better approach?
  23. This was a well functioning XP-Pro-64 running on Oracle VM VirtualBox. Been running fine for years and was used just a couple of days ago. Main OS is Win 10 (CPU Ryzen9 3900x) and I was running a Windows Sandbox when I tried to start the VB Win XP64. Never had a sandbox in the background before so I suspect that may have had something to do with it. I do have the original XP64 install CD if needed. Can I bring the XP back to life somehow? The BSOD says: *** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000000000000AC,0x000000000000000C,0x0000000000000000,0xFFFFF80001055A59) Thanks!
  24. I have recently upgraded my SSD and in the process made the switch to Fedora Linux. There are still a few applications (Fusion 360 notably) that I need windows to run. Is there a way I can virtualize my old SSD that has Windows Installed to run these applications?
  25. So i have been trying for days to play the torrented LSW:Complete Saga but nothing seems to work. On my windows 10 the app starts then immediately goes black and exits. So i tried to run it in compatibility mode with all settings on lowest in XP with no success. Then finally i installed an VirtualBox Windows XP and Windows 7 but now i get an error ''Sorry but your machine is unable to play this game. It requires a graphics card that support Pixel Shaders v1.1.'' I installed directx 9 but i still can't get it to work. I have a gtx 1080 if that helps. I need to get this worked out while my younger brother is still interested so i would very much appreciate anyone's help.
