Hi, I am working on my first virtual machine, and I’ve hit two major problem. I am using the following: VMware Workstation Windows XP SP3 The sound is off, like static/too loud sometimes. The other main problem is games refuse to stretch to fit the screen, or if I up the resolution it doesn’t change a thing. I am trying to get the EA MVP Baseball games to run her. Minor problem is despite having a superior video card video isn’t as smooth as I know it can be. Any ideas how to fix these errors?

I'll try to be as specific as possible here. My server had CentOS 7 installed to it previously and is now the default OS (it was initially installed via bootable USB). However, I now want to replace it with ProxMox to make other VMs. The server is an IBM/Lenovo x3850 x5 with a IBM 88Y5351 motherboard and four Intel Xeon E7 4830 processors (32 physical cores across all of them). In BIOS, hyperthreading, Intel Virtualization (VT-x), and VT-d are all enabled. To boot ProxMox, I used the most recent ProxMox ISO (ProxMox VE 6.3 iso release 1) etched to a 16 GB USB. I will note that the only thing that seemed a bit off was that the ISO was a mere 800 MB, which I'd imagine is pretty low for an OS. After plugging in the ProxMox USB and going into the boot options, I selected "USB Storage," as seen below (see image "20210212_233733") After selecting this option, I was greeted by what I assume to be a fairly nominal loading screen (see image "20210212_233813") After this, I got the normal "ProxMox" screen with a couple options, of which I selected the top one ("Install ProxMox VE"). See image 20210212_233843. Edit: When I select the "Install ProxMox VE" option it immediately tells me that my monitor is going into screen saver move but my server is still running. What might I have done wrong?

I have a tattoo studio which runs up to six PC's and a couple laptops. In an effort of economy I would like to create a best possible networked system which would utilize one main machine as a server and perhaps utilize one machine(or the same machine) for the GPU hardware. The idea is that instead of buy 6X fully decked out PC's. I buy one PC with mass storage and a decent GPU, the other 5 PC's utilize this main PC's hardware. The main work done on these PC's is photoshop design on almost all PC's and one content creator PC (video and photo editing) From some reading I've done a GPU server wouldn't work without multiple GPU's. Then someone else mentioned that a smaller gpu is used and helped by a larger gpu to do all the heavy lifting. I'm a total noob to servers/networking so be gentle... Is this idea even feasible? What is the best way to approach this? -
i would like to have some advice... i would like to have a NAS solution but i can not afford it now.. 1. I got my PC at home that i use for work and i´m thinking if it would be a good idea to install an OMV VM inside Win10 in order to hack a backup solution and get acces to those files (easily) from the internet (outside of mu local network) ? 2. also i have a few HDDs in my PC (3 desktop drives and 2 WD nas drives) i would like to know if the VM is running with the WD NAS drives mounted on it.... the other drives mounted on win10 will keep spining all the time ? this can cause some damage to the desktop drives? Hey everyone, I'm looking for assistance in figuring out what setting in my router is blocking my home assistant virtual machine from working. I keep getting TX hang errors which is causing my PC to become non responsive when trying to run home assistant via virtualbox. Through a process of elimination I've managed to narrow it down to something in my Unifi setup. I know it's something in there as I plugged in my ISP's router and home assistant launches fine so something in Unifi is blocking this from working. Long story short, I want to be able to have as many different desktops in virtual space as possible, and was surprised back when I bought the Vive years ago that this was limited to actual ports on the motherboard and or connected GPUs. I picked up an Index and am back to the same quandary. Or are there other solutions? I looked into headless hdmi plugs years ago but had hoped there was a better solution since the Vive years. Any help in the right direction. Was inspired by the LTT video of the mobo with the ridiculous number of USB ports for what was clearly an industrial solution. ‘’Thanks in advance, ‘’Kevin -
Hello, everyone. I'm building a virtual lab for fun and I'm running into some issues that I could use some help with. The Default Gateway to my Domain Controller keeps becoming unavailable within a server on the domain. It appears to drop when I try to access the internet from inside the server. I discovered the error when attempting to download chrome from internet explorer. Resetting the adapter resolves the problem temporarily, but if I try to do anything on the internet, say, install chrome, the internet will drop. I have static IPs on both the DC and the Server. Changing Bridge to NAT with the IP set via DHCP in the server itself restores access to the internet, but it appears the server needs to use a static IP if I want to use Windows admin center. However; when I switched back to Bridged, set the server to a Static IP and attempted to install a browser, the internet speeds dropped to the floor. Ultimately the downloads failed. The issue appears to be related to assign the Static IP and a preferred DNS to the server. Would anyone know what might be the issue? I would appreciate any assistance that is available. Thank you. Trying to build my own server farm, but old servers are not available in my country and it's really hard to get good spec rack servers, so I'm thinking if it is logical to use consumer desktops for my virtualization projects (ovirt,openstack,ceph) Thinking of CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900x Motherboard: Need help Ram: 4 x 16GB adata (total 64GB) PSU: Need help Case: Need help (Thinking of getting custom case) Also should I get cooling? I believe the Ryzen 3900x already includes a fan I hope that is enough. This is only for home and will turn off from time to time. More of a practice bench for me.

Hey guys, Every day it seems something new comes out about the Ryzen and people freaking out. So my question is for the guys who already got one and have hopefully done some of this work on it. I'm looking at going to the 1700 and doing a 2 gamers 1 CPU setup, each getting 8 Threads, dedicated GPU and 8GB each would be enough for me for now. My Question is has anyone tested the Ryzen virtual PC capabilities yet ? its between this or a second hand X99 setup with a i7-5xxx 6core Personally I'd rather have the brand new Ryzen but just wanted to find out what the latest word was

Hey!! So I'm currently working on a project and need a system that I'll be able to run upwards of 14 ish VMs on! Each VM will be using the internet - nothing too intensive - no gaming or anything like that. If budget is a bit too high may be able to do with 6 or 7 minimum but preferably have the 14 ish on one. Budget & location: Budget is around £1600 ish hopefully including monitors but only if possible. Will be buying in Uk. Aim: Be able so smoothly run around 13-14 VMs that will all just be running internet browsers with nothing too intensive on them. Monitors: At minimum 2 monitors, but 3 would be preferred No preference for screen res size etc Peripherals: Sorted for peripherals If if you need any more info feel free to ask but any help is appreciated!

The dude behind the PC Building Simulator just released an alpha of the software and is asking for comments on Reddit. It's looking really good for such a young project. With community support this could end up being a super easy way to plan build layouts. Would anyone find this handy if it evolved to support a large array of parts?

Hello everyone! After the advent of the infamous Windows 10 (doesn't matter v1511 or v1607), IT problems and headaches have skyrocketed. Couple of times I heard Luke saying the annoyance of trying to benchmark machines with the instability of Windows 10. I have to say that it can get much worse when you have Active Directory. Our machines after join the Active Directory are now unbearable to login and use. Even when using software like DisableWinTracking, Spybot Anti-beacon etc, Microsoft services some times take almost 100% of disk and/or memory usage, and arround 90% (!!) of CPU usage most at login time and randomly during the day. Logins are much worst than boot times ( sometimes taking more than 5 minutes to release the desktop even after it is show to the user in a good day). You guys don't notice that much because (that's a guess) because Core i3 computer with 4Gb of ram and HDD (in the majority of the machines) are not that common outside Brazil (where I live). But, even with some Core i5 and i7 the situation is not good. We are doing some testing disabling more Windows 10 annoying service and scheduled tasks, which helped (using Download Destroy Windows 10 Spying recommended by Barnacules Nerdgasm helped very much). Doing tests two things came to our attention: The same machines that we tested with Windows 10 32bit performed so much better than with Windows 10 64bit, Of course we loose some RAM but the performance is like downgrading to Windows 7; In the IT department, more specifically the support team, we installed Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE) and we are using Windows 10 on virtual machines (VM). Which is impressive since even using Windows 10 64bit inside a VM with less available RAM the performance is better. How is your experience with this ... work of art of Microsoft? -

Good Morning and Happy Monday! I have had this problem before and found out it was an incorrect setting on the virtual machine. I had been setting it to NAT instead of Bridged. Recently, our entire network had a complete stroke and had to reset everything. Since then, the virtual machine (running Windows XP) is showing that a network cable is unplugged. 1. I checked the physical connection to make sure it hadn't come loose. 2. Re-Checked Virtual Machine settings to make sure the connection is bridged. 3.Tried using both WiFi and Ethernet. Anything else I should try? -
I don't do much in the field of making virtual systems and when I do it usually for low end Linux servers. But I had an idea and am wondering if it's possible. My current rig I use for gaming till I get the cash to build something better has a Xeon 1650 6 core 12 thread CPU running at 3.20 Ghz. most video games can only use 4 cores/threads. So the faster your core speed is, the better it is for these games. Now this is the question, can you make a virtual machine and tell it's CPU to act as a 4 core CPU but use 6 or 5 cores from the physical CPU. So that way the virtual CPU would have a speed of say 4.80 GHz per core making video games limited to 4 core/threads able to use more by tricking them into using a virtual CPU which is using more cores as a lower core CPU. -

Hi all, I really like the feature in Windows 10 that has been around for a while now which is the virtual desktops. It is useful for working on multiple projects at once so that I don't get confused. However, there is a very annoying thing that has been bugging me and that is that I cannot rearrange desktops. So lets say that I want to move desktop 3 so that it is next to the virtual desktop 1. Like apple has their version of this. is there a way to do this without 3rd party software? It would be nice to see Microsoft implement this in the coming creators update. Thanks in advance

I have a top of the line Surface book Pro and bought it specifically to run Solidworks 2016. However, as I later found out, the GTX is horrible at Solidworks and other productivity programs. My question: is it possible to run a virtual machine and virtually run a Quadro graphics card and drivers? Thanks guys, AI

I cannot believe this is real! This is every Mario Kart fan's dream come true. Mario Kart in VR, throwing items, dodging piranhas, so epic!! They say VR is hard to promote, because unless you’re actually doing it yourself it’s hard tell what all the fuss is about. Well, not with Mario Kart Arcade GP VR it’s not. The game uses Valve’s HTC Vive headset, and although you have a real steering wheel to use you can activate items with one of the controllers just by raising your hand. The Arcade GP games aren’t by Nintendo and so there’s often slight differences to the usual formula. In this case that includes items hanging from balloons, instead of being in blocks, and a new hammer weapon. Mario Kart VR is heading to Bandai Namco’s new VR Zone arcade in Shinjuku, Tokyo. . . I have seen the 2-in-1 virtualization, and 7-in-1 gaming builds. I was wondering if you could do something similar with a gigabyte brix 1060nvidia(GB-BNi7HG6-1060) and an external docking station for the second video card? I think you have to have two video cards minimum to do this? I was thinking you could use the docking station hdmi for the host OS, and nvidia 1060 card for the virtualized guest win7/10 via pass-through 3d. I am trying for a Linux host (ubuntu 16+) and windows 7-10 for the guest OS. I have already confirmed this box has VT-x and VT-d

Dear People, Recently I did an outdoor event at a carnival using a few Vive Headsets as a VR Arcade. During the event our systems worked REALLY well except for a few specific times of the day. Is there some way on Vive or app to turn on the front camera or some kind of inside the headset that would show you where the headset was picking up IR signals from so we could track down what's causing the tracking problem? Maybe something that looks like the 3D front camera view but showed red colored lines or dots where it was getting interference from? Also, is there very much potential for the HMD for the Vive to overheat sometimes and cause any sort of problems? Extra info on what problems we were having: -Most of the mid day sun didn't cause a problem, but we started noticing tracking problems with some sunlight leaks coming into our tents. In one case it was one headset having a major problem at 2 or 3 specific points in the room scale. We ended up finding out that a car parked about a half a mile away was reflecting sunlight from it's windshield and just enough of it was shining through the trees to go through the front entrance of our tent (Entrance was facing away from the sun too which is why we were so confused for so long). -Another issue we sometimes had was tracking issues because of tiny pin holes in the top of our tent, or sometimes just worn down spots that weren't blocking sun. 1. Budget & Location Budget is between the £1500.00 - £2000.00 mark, the current specs I have drawing up are slightly and would like to bring the cost done. Located in the UK 2. Aim The machine is going to be accessed via RDP and I will be running several VM’s on the machine, the ideally situation would be to have at most at any one time 10 VM’s running. The VM instance would be varying between Win 7 – Win 10 but generally will be Win 10. There will be no specially software or hardware running on these machines other that a web browser and the sites that will be accessed will be loading flash based games. I currently use my current PC and can get at most 3 machines running before my system starts taking a knock. The VM settings are 2/2 2GB-4GB and the VM the system is maxing out the CPU and as long as I have an SSD and not using the VM on a HDD the disk usage is fine. As far as I can see the load is handled by the CPU & not the GPU. 3. Monitors As this system will not be accessed physically none except for setup. 4. Peripherals Will require VMware on the machine. 5. Why are you upgrading? As my current machine is not able to handle this and need to increase the number of VM’s being run. The current list I have specc’d out is this, the case was just put there for a rough costing purpose and would like to change it to something nicer and the GPU I am unsure of what to go for and what would be best fit for my use, I had originally intended on following the 40 Thread Xeon monster guide but I have my concerns about the ES cpu’s and further unable to find the steppings listed 40 Thread Xeon Monster UK pcpartpicker
