I wonder if its only the case with us in the UK but with Virgin using a Euro-DOCSIS 3.0 I am currently paying for 300Mbps and 20Mbps Upload and getting 380Mbps+ and 22Mbps Upload Do any of you guys in the US or Elsewhere get more than you pay for ? Perhaps you guys using Euro-DOCSIS or regular DOCSIS ?

So i have had my new Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LR for a few days now, so here is my review of it. The unboxing was nice, The outside of the box looks good and contains all the information you would ever want. I liked the small protector on top of the AP, shows quality I don't like how tightly it is packaged at the bottom, but i can understand why as it saves on postage and the bottom bits are not really what you are paying for. So i got onto doing some tests, with two different internet connections. Range: First of all, at the first place i tested it, i had it at the back of the house in an extension, i managed to get top speeds of 6Mbit DL (the fastest the connection could provide) outside the front of the house on the other side of the street, about 60 meters away, keep in mind that it went through two brick walls, so i think that was quite good, and i probably could have gone further. Where i currently am i have a 200Mbit connection, so there is less bottleneck, however, i can't be bothered to test the range. The estimated range from the controller was OK, and i don't think it was too far off. POE: There is an inconvenience of having to need two ethernet cables because you need one for the POE out and LAN in, this is annoying, so keep it in mind that you will need to buy another cable or steal one from another device (Like i did). However it is nice to be able to run just one cable, and i will be taking advantage of this at the place i will deploy it. Throughput: I decided not to test with a 6Mbit connection for obvious reasons. I will do some file transfer tests when i return to school because all the things i need to do so are there. Tests were done on an iPad air (one) The max speed of the connection is ~220Mbps DL / ~12Mbps UP Here are some tests: (I am not quoting each link) 2G: (No vs original tests on this) Directly ontop of the AP: 70.74Mbps DL | 12.47Mbps UP. ~2M away with no obstructions: 59.58Mbps DL | 12.11Mbps UP. ~5M away with no obstructions: 49.30Mbps DL | 11.99Mbps UP. Through ceiling: 71.11Mbps DL | 12.30Mbps UP. 5G: (Vs the virgin super hub 2.0) Directly ontop of the AP: Virgin: (Test 1: 106.49Mbps DL | 12.40Mbps UP) (Test 2: 157.50Mbps DL | 12.42Mbps UP) (Test 3: 126.53Mbps DL | 12.66Mbps UP) AC-LR: (Test 1: 114.40Mbps DL | 12.48Mbps UP) (Test 2: 108.42Mbps DL | 12.58Mbps UP) (Test 3: 71.81Mbps DL | 12.40Mbps UP) ~2M away with no obstructions: Virgin: (Test 1: 122.51Mbps DL | 12.40Mbps UP) (Test 2: 139.80Mbps DL | 12.80Mbps UP) (Test 3: 107.29Mbps DL | 12.51Mbps UP) AC-LR: (Test 1: 133.34Mbps DL | 12.70Mbps UP) (Test 2: 110.16Mbps DL | 12.49Mbps UP) (Test 3: 83.37Mbps DL | 12.51Mbps UP) ~5M away with no obstructions: Virgin: (Test 1: 130.41Mbps DL | 12.49Mbps UP) (Test 2: 137.40Mbps DL | 12.46Mbps UP) (Test 3: 143.54Mbps DL | 12.65Mbps UP) AC-LR: (Test 1: 116.80Mbps DL | 12.53Mbps UP) (Test 2: 111.13Mbps DL | 12.53Mbps UP) (Test 3: 117.13Mbps DL | 12.39Mbps UP) Through ceiling: Virgin: (Test 1: 87.85Mbps DL | 12.49Mbps UP) (Test 2: 41.69Mbps DL | 12.45Mbps UP) (Test 3: 81.93Mbps DL | 12.37Mbps UP) AC-LR: (Test 1: 78.11Mbps DL | 12.58Mbps UP) (Test 2: 92.31Mbps DL | 12.44Mbps UP) (Test 3: 99.86Mbps DL | 12.62Mbps UP) Overall, they are close, however, this is the fun bit, multiple devices. (All start test buttons were pressed at the same time) The virgin held up better than i expected: 5G: Virgin: Laptop: 86.34Mbps DL | 4.88Mbps UP Phone: 45.03Mbps DL | 11.50Mbps UP iPad: 24.86Mbps DL | 6.45Mbps UP AC-LR Laptop: 55.94Mbps DL | 5.04Mbps UP Phone: 57.29Mbps DL | 11.60Mbps UP iPad: 57.77Mbps DL | 10.43Mbps UP Airtime fairness: See above, The virgin obviously has none enabled. The AC-LR is quite good at it, however, although it isn't enabled by default. Software: The software is amazing, and has a stupid amount of settings, including guest networks with a built-in landing page, although i will not go into it at all, you can get a demo of it at https://demo.ubnt.com/manage/site/qzmicadd So far, I love it, The place i am going to deploy it will not get full 5G coverage, so i will probably get another for the 5G coverage. However, it gets enough 2G coverage to be good enough, Will come back with tests for this new location, not speed tests though, just file transfer tests. estimated 2G coverage estimated 5G coverage @acturisme

basically I have virgin broadband (co-ax) and been using an Archer V600 router as an AP, but it's essentially been working as a switch with my PC and CCTV hardwired i have all my other equipment hard wired to my virgin router upstairs, Devices such as Sky Q can't be found when i'm using my AP(because its looking for my STB that's connected to the router) downstairs and the AP router also has a USB slot for media but my devices upstairs can't access that without connecting to the AP (which is much further away than the main router), is there a way to sort of use my secondary router (current AP) as a bridge that boosts the wifi downstairs acts as a switch to my PC that's hardwired into it and also lets me share my media on my router with the equipment connected to the other router. sorry for the long post just wanted to see what i could do before exploring a Switch and NAS setup I have tried to use a bridge setup on my router but it can't find the broadband from the Ethernet in the WAN SLoT so im not sure if its possible

Hello, I got a spare Virgin Media SuperHub 3 UK and I would like to use it as a WiFi extender at my home. My current router is also VM SuperHub 3 and I've been trying to figure out how to connect them together, however, even though a spare router works, the connection doesn't seem to be stable, sometimes taking too long to open a particular website. I wonder what settings I should use on the spare SH3 in order to make it work. There was one topic on forum regarding SuperHub 2, however, switching DHCPv4 server off didn't help. I would be grateful for any tips as I'm a newbie in this topic. Many thanks, Matt

Just moved into my new accommodation and connected to the network provided by my landlord. They stated that they have been getting emails saying how the ISP is working on improving internet speeds in the area which will explain if it goes down (I now believe she was just covering her back). Upon research there is no further improvements being done by Virgin or Openreach in my area however 98% of the time my internet is <6kb/s but occasionally spikes as high as 11mb/S for a merely a second. Using ping -t 8.8.8.8 it hovers around 3200ms and to 192.168.1.1 it’s consitently under 5ms... Obviously I don’t have full access to router settings but is there anything I can do before going to my landlord who, let me remind you, probably lied to cover up the poor internet solution they have in place? Thanks in advance, Adam

Hi, I’m wondering if it is possible to use a super hub 3 as an access point with another super hub 3. If so, how would I configure it?

So, I got a gaming laptop recently so my girlfriend doesn't demand every minute of my PC for Sims and GTA, but for some reason (my internet is 200 mbps D/L) whenever she watched a YouTube video or even just browses the web whilst I'm on a game on my PC (which is wired via ethernet directly into the back of the modem) my speeds go as low as 0.5mbps with 500+ ping. But if we're watching on anything else, phone, tablet or console the connection is fine? Any idea? I've disabled teh windows 10 update across PC thing that apparently takes up a bunch of bandwidth, however this hasn't done anything.

Hey, to start with, I'm from England so some of the network providers you may not be familiar with if you're from NA, which alot of people on this site seem to be. so I'm trying to sell my iPhone 6s as I got a 6s+ and I was asked what networks it worked with. Now, I assumed it was unlocked as I had 2 networks on the phone when I was changing my steam account number and needed to access my older sim. I've tested 5 Networks. (EE, Virgin, Vodafone, O2 and Giff Gaff) and only EE, Virgin and Giff Gaff work, the other 2 say it's not compatible. Just wondering if anyone could give me any advice on why only certain networks (that aren't partnered) work with the phone and others aren't compatible. Thanks

Virgin officially announced a few days ago that everyone on it's network would be getting their speed boosted for free, and their new top package is 200mbps down and 12 up (which is the same as before on the upload side, and complimentary throttling included ). They're calling their top 'ultrafast' packages 'Vivid' and their lower packages 'SuperFibre'. This now means that their new lowest package is 70mbps down and 6mbps up. These changes have not been made official on their site, however many customers have received emails and letters about it. We were on the 100mb/s plan until we had a little 'chat' over the phone and they agreed to upgrade us to the 200mb plan for free as part of this new offering, however normal 100mb/s customers will be upgraded to 152mb/s. I like this move, I doubt it would be something that Comcast would want to do. Source: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2015/09/29/virgin-media-vivid-200mbps/1

Is it possible to use third party router firmware with a virgin super hub? I've read quite a few places which point to buying a septate router and turning the superhub into modem mode in order to use the 3rd party firmware with the third part router. Can I not use the super hub with router firmware such as dd-wrt?

Got my GPU (Sapphire RADEON R9 390 NITRO Tri-X) a couple of weeks ago and it runs pretty good! But it looks horrendous due to the fact that there's no backplate included. Is there a backplate on the market? Or can I fix it myself?

Virgin Media has announced it is to spend £3 billion improving fibre network that will create 600 jobs in the process. The improvements will begin this year and be completed by the year 2020. This is the single biggest investment in broadband infrastructure in the UK for more than a decade. It is going to bring connectivity to 17 million homes and businesses in towns and cities where full and high speed cable coverage is lacking. Project Lightning will change lives and transform communities – giving people better access to education, health care, financial systems and employment – it will also have a huge positive impact on the UK as whole. Virgin Media says its £3 billion broadband investment will be worth £8 billion in terms of stimulating the UK economy, and will create 6,000 new jobs of which 1,000 will be apprenticeships. This project is an important step in making the UK an even more competitive country. When it comes to making the most of our increasingly connected lives, speed and capacity matters. Prime Minister David Cameron has welcomed the investment from Virgin Media and said: "It is a vote of confidence in our long-term economic plan to support business and create jobs by building a superfast nation backed by world-class infrastructure." it will will increase the network’s reach from 13 million to 17 million homes and businesses by the year 2020. Virgin Media will also be able to offer speeds of up to 152Mb to more customers. or the first time from broadband speeds at least twice as fast as those available from the other major providers. Consumers and business owners who want to make the switch to better broadband speeds now have an alternative sources: Kit guru: http://goo.gl/7wGYZ8 Virgin Blog: http://goo.gl/mycA7K

This may be quite old now (announced like a month ago), but VM never did an official press release/announcement and has kept quiet about it so far. Anyway, starting from March 2014, all customers will be upgraded according to the information below: Download | Upload 30Mb > 50Mb 2Mb > 3Mb 60Mb > 100Mb 3Mb > 6Mb 120Mb > 152Mb 12Mb > 12Mb So the new plans will now be 50Mb, 100Mb, 152Mb Bear in mind this is Megabits, not Megabytes. In reality, 50Mb produces 6.25 Megabytes/second 100Mb = 12.5 Megabytes/second 152Mb = 19 Megabytes/second

So what is YOUR speed? And what ISP are you using? Im with Virgin Media in UK and I pay for 30Meg down, 2meg up Please post your screenshot below! http://i.imgur.com/vRfJS7K.jpg Bear in mind I am on WiFi on my iPhone, but on my computer via Ethernet I get 31Meg most of the time?

Good day, as you read in the title, I'm looking to watercool my current rig. I want to watercool the motherboard, the RA- Wait, no. Mostly just wanna watercool my CPU and my GPU. Not expecting insanely beautiful things, but something clean. I'd like either blue tubing or blue fluid, but other than that it's you guys' call. Pull up what you can, please.

Hello LTT Community! Before all, I would like to say how excited I am to be apart of this community. I love to watch Linus, and his brutally honest reviews of tech products. Quick Disclaimer, I am very much new to building rigs. My build is from roughly a month of planning, and even then it could be extremely bad. This is why I am here with the great community of LTT. I'm sure you guys will point your fingers in the right direction for me. Thanks! --- 1. Budget & Location My budget is $2,000. This includes peripherals! Location is New Jersey, United States. NOTE: If need be, I don't mind going at most $2,100. Only if it is worth it. 2. Aim My aim for this build is straight forward. I am NOT trying to overclock at all. I am very much new to PC in general (Been an Apple, don't hate me!) and I don't know the slightest of clues on overclocking. Even with Linus's Overclocking Guide, I still feel uncomfortable trying. So with that set aside, I want my PC to play most games on Ultra, 1080P (don't want to move up on resolution just yet, I'm comfortable with 1080P), and able to do light Photoshop work for web design. On top of that I may touch on video, BUT nothing too serious. Mainly gaming, and designing the web as I go. Also, I am very much considering creating my PC with a Hackintosh extension. I really like the Mac OS X (but very much agree with how horrible the specs are for the price, plus the lack of gaming). So I would like a Hackintosh, where I can do my Photoshop work on, and a Windows side, so I can get my gaming on. I hope I made that quite clear. 3. Monitors I'm looking for only one 1080P monitor. For now, I do not want to add more monitors, no mounting, or any of that jazz. Just one monitor, for now. 4. Peripherals My peripherals are included in the parts I've picked below. Feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. I already have Windows 8 retail disk. However if Windows 7 is greatly recommended, I'd be happy to make that change. 5. Why are you upgrading? I'm sure you guys see this a lot. I'm upgrading because I never thought PC was superior to that of consoles, nor the Mac platform (yes, after saying this I much want to kill myself too). So I had ended up selling my 2010 iMac, for a pre-built rig from a friend of mine. My brother built his own PC, which I helped him with (thank to Linus and instruction manuals), and fell in love with that feeling. Pretty much the reason why I want to upgrade my current PC. Which the specs are as so: Processor: AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core Processor 3.80GHz Memory (RAM): Ballistix 8.00 GB (not sure the speed on these sticks) Motherboard: M5A78L-M/USB3 by Asus Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 660 Windforce by Gigabyte SSD/HDD: 120GB Samsung EVO (recently purchased), and a 1TB Blue Cavier WD PSU: Corsair 750W Bronze certified. (I had a 650 with this rig but it died on me.) --- With all that set aside this is my desired build, and with your help it can be better.
