I scored (or so I think) a base model M3 Pro 14" MBP for $1800 on a recent sale at Best Buy. I would prefer to find something cheaper. I'm considering a refurbished M2 Pro instead that I've found for $1600 on Apple's website. I don't know if I'd be missing out on features though. I tried so many different Windows laptops, but none fit the bill with build quality, speakers, screen, and overall non-gameriness. I prefer glossy screens over matte screens ideally OLED or Mini LED, and of course 120hz+ is a preferred option. I can find plenty of performant options from the Windows side but most fall short especially with speakers. In an ideal world, I'd love to occasionally pick up an eSports title like Rocket League and play on my 3440x1440 175hz OLED, but it seems thats wishful thinking. I've kind of given up the idea of gaming just because the MacBook Pro M2/M3 Pro are such compelling options. Also, why does no one offer a haptic trackpad in 2024? Diveboard trackpads are so BAD. I would really love some recommendations of video editing laptops around the $1600 mark that might be able to game. The feel of the latop is very important to me. Windows is fine I'm just very in the Apple ecosystem. Thanks!

Just curious if anyone might have experience with editing 720-1080p video. And what would be the cheapest build I could do for a smooth experience editing 720p video and maybe 1080p it just needs to be a simple build nothing fancy something to get the job done and while it doesn't need to render the final job quickly I'd like to avoid lag when scrubbing through video. That's all that's needed. Perhaps a used laptop recommendation too? Ideally looking to spend under $200. I already have 16gbs of DDR4 2400mhz ram. Dyt it'd be fine to use an office PC with like a 7th gen i5 or i7? I have the budget for better but I'm not looking for anything crazy just something that'll work.

On top of the “Photography and Videography” forum, there should be a sub-forum on top of that for video/photo editing. It should be called like “Photo and Video Editing.” It would be a great improvement for the photo/video editing community that is on this forum.

Hello all! My dad's pc is nearing its 10 year anniversary, and I am helping him spec out a new one. Other than web browsing, the pc will be used exclusively for 4K video editing. No gaming at all, not even a little. (:c) TL;DR: Is a rtx 3050 a really bad choice (bottleneck) in combination with a i7-14700k, if the rig will never be used for gaming? Fast render times is not priority no.1 if it means saving a few hundred dollars. The budget is pretty high, and these are the specs so far: CPU: Intel i7-14700k GPU: Asus RTX 3050 8gb MBO: ASUS Prime Z690-A RAM: Corsair 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 5600MHz SSD (x2): WD Black SN770 500GB Gen 4 HDD: WD Red PRO 8TB 7200rpm 256MB Cooler: DeepCool AK400 Zero Dark Plus PSU: ASUS TUF Gaming 750W Gold Case: Fractal Design Focus 2 Solid This will total in about $2k, which is about as far as he wants to go. He edits only in Vegas Pro with little GPU acceleration, so I figured allocating more money to RAM and CPU would be better. I still think so, but seeing a 3050 next to an 14700k... it just kind of feels wrong. xd What do you all think? Is this a good move, or should I balance it out? It will be a massive upgrade anywho; he will be coming from a i7-4770, a gtx 660 and 16gb RAM. Thank you beforehand!

They are both priced the same & i like that the AIO comes with a screen but the only problem is not being able to put a GPU as i value peformance. So my question is if we put a gpu on the 7060 & an eGPU on the AIO will the peformance be the same? -

This is an issue that's been plaguing me for months now, and I finally want to try and fix it. I don't know what I could have done to cause this, but when I play a video with a Windows media player or try to edit with software like Davinci Resolve, it cannot play the video and Windows Media doesn't even complain about it being an unknown format, but VLC can play it just fine, and this is with videos in general, not just mkv. Other than trying an OS reinstall, is there anything I could do to try and fix it?

First build! I want something *decently* powerful, enough to handle video editing, some gaming (likely nothing too graphic intensive, see below), potentially streaming. Not really editing 4k all that much currently, but I imagine that will change in the coming years. Title says it all, my current laptop (Eluktronics MAG-15) has served me well, but it's getting a bit outdated, and it's time for an upgrade. My main use case is Lightroom and Photoshop photo editing, and in the near future I will be editing 4k video. In terms of needs/wants: 1) Needs to run windows. Just never jived with MacOS personally. 2) 15-17 inch screen, with good brightness and color accuracy. Would prefer a non-oled model, as I still get wigged out about burn in 3) Full-size SD card slot. I dislike having to carry an adapter if at all possible. 4) Large battery, I know it won't last long during editing, but for when I'm doing other work or random browsing it would be nice not to be tethered to the wall. 5) Upgradeability. It would be nice to be able to change storage/ram or replace a dying battery. 6) Good speakers. Upward firing if possible, for when I don't need headphones, good audio would be nice. As far as budget goes: anything up to about $2500 USD would work, but if it goes slightly over it's not a deal breaker. Thanks a million in advance -

Hi! 12gb rtx 3060 or 8gb 3060ti - which one should I buy for video editing work? I will be using adobe premiere pro, after effects and davinci resolve. Which card will serve me for long time? I'm planning to use it for 4 years at least. How about RX 6700xt? Would that be a good option as well? Both rtx cards are available in my country and within my budget. The Amd card is a bit expensive.

Hi all! A small company in the Video Production industry is launching what they’re advertising to be the “world’s fastest SSD”. Many people are skeptical and I would love to know your thoughts. He owns a few other companies, all based around providing video production resources, and has somewhat of a polarizing reputation. These companies all rely on a very strong social media presence, and are making some very shocking claims on this new product. They’re giving it a fancy packaging and creating a bunch of hype around a product that doesn’t provide much in technical specifications. Tropic Colour have been very vocal on their Instagram marketing regarding this new SSD, and have been accused by many of just selling a NVMe SSD in a custom enclosure. So I recently picked up video editing and the quality is only 720p so I thought my PC which I built for gaming with a decent upgrade path but fairly low end parts to start with would do the job. But the render time is ridiculously slow. Here are the specs: i3 12100 64GBs of RAM (I got some free lol) ARC A750 WD BLACK 500GB NVME SSD all on a b660m asus tuf gaming. I will clarify that I am a complete noob to video editing and it's ins and outs. I do understand that it requires a good processor, but I felt that with an i3 12th gen that 720p shouldn't take that long but again I'm a noob to it. I'm looking for some advice on what I should upgrade to or if there is a setting I have messed up or something I'm doing wrong. Your help would be much appreciated, thank you!

Other details (Have case NZXT H510, old BFG PSU (550W NOT INSTALLED),): Hi everyone I am new here, I'm 17 and looking to upgrade my 2015 Asus M32CD desktop, specs are: intel core i5-6400 @2.70GHz, 12GB ram, 2GB AMD FirePro GPU, and 1TB hybrid HDD(boot drive) plus more HDDs and an old samsung SSD (128GB). Video editing is slow and choppy even at 1080p and if pushed too hard crashes, In photoshop selecting and masking even small areas takes 20-60 seconds and even longer sometimes, and in lightroom selecting and applying presets can take 1-2 minutes. This is not ideal and I wish for a faster option that can also handle some 4K; not any RAW video just basic 4k from phones and my canon M50. While having these programs open task manager showed CPU 86-100% Ram usage 80-100%, and power consumption was High-very High. I presume that for video editing I need a better CPU and for PS and LR I need more RAM? If y'all don't mind could you help me find the right CPU, RAM, and possibly PSU? My budget is $400-$500USD. I have a NZXT H510 case laying around, a new coolermaster cooler (don't know model number), BFG BFGR550WGXPSU, and all my existing HDDs and SSDs. I suppose I might also need a new motherboard for new CPU. I run Windows 10, and have two 1080p displays with a third when I need it ( in the future I wish to ad a 4K display). I thinks that's all the info. Again I use this for Photoshop, lightroom, and video editing along with simple tasks like documents, YouTube, etc. I originally wanted a laptop but found the price to performance ratio too high (the Dell XPS 15 lives only in my dreams). This is not a gaming PC the only thing I play on it is the 2005 Star Wars Battlefront. I will be using this for work as a Head Media Director at my local summer camp as well as personal photo/video projects. P.S. Dear LTT Community, This has been happening on/off for most of my time owning this PC (self-built), however, it has been rising in frequency recently (eventually coming to the point where it crashes on every render). Details of renders: I was trying to render a simple 6 minute video, with basic effects (Blur, and stock animated text). At first, I edited it with Davinci Resolve, and my pc crashed while rendering, (even while rendering with cached images). However, this has also been happening with Sony Vegas 18, a popular video editing software. (1080p 24-30 fps video) Crash Info: When the computer "crashed", the fans were still running, the RGB lights were still on (power button, RAM, GPU), the GPU fans were still on, and it seemed that the PC was still running, BUT my monitor said there was no signal to the computer. My mouse also had its RGB lights blinking weirdly whenever I made a click. So, the monitor lost signal, however the pc (from looking at it) still seems to be functioning. I checked thermals with MSI Afterburner, and I put the fans on max (with the fans on max, the temp was around 40-43 degrees while rendering). Without fans, temps were at 55+ (Celsius). Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600x Six-Core processor (4.05GHz overclock) Motherboard: B450 GAMING PLUS MAX (MS-7B86) GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6 GB Memory: 16 GB 3200mhz Storage: Seagate Barracuda Compute 2 TB HDD 240 GB SSD (Forgot brand, sorry!) Any ideas on how I could fix/prevent this? I'm not sure if this is a thermal problem, or a software problem, as this was my first PC build, so I have minimal knowledge about thermals. I need a monitor for gaming and one for video editing. What would be the best combo for around $600? I started doing video editing professionally just recently and my 5 yo cheapo samsung monitor just isn't enough anymore. I'd prefer a 21:9 screen for editing, but if it's not in the budget I'm fine with 16:9. For gaming it really doesn't matter, anything around 120-144hz would do. I'm don't really know what makes an editing monitor good beside "color accuracy". I'd really appreciate your help!

I'll cut straight to the point here. I've been looking a lot at the a7SIII as an upgrade from my A7III. The main thing holding me back is deciding what hardware I'll need to be able to edit the footage without transcoding/using proxies. I've heard a lot about many computers struggling with the codecs, and am frankly stuck on what level of machine I'll need for this. I've been looking at a few different machines (I need a laptop for the nature of my work), but can't find much as to what level of laptop I'll need for this. Shall I wait for the new batch of M1 macs, or will a dell XPS 15, or 17 cut it? I'd love to stay with windows, but have been hearing good things about the M1 macs. Help and discussion very much appreciated with this. -
Hi all, I am looking to buy a new monitor around £300, and I am currently trying to pick from these two monitors - the Dell S2721QS and the ASUS ProArt PA278QV. Both are IPS 27 inch monitors, with the ASUS at 1440p and the Dell at 4K. The ASUS has also received a good review from PC Monitors (but the Dell is yet to be reviewed) I should note that I am currently running off of Intel HD 630 integrated graphics, but I am hoping to upgrade to a RTX 2060 Super from a friend when he gets a RTX 3000 series card (someday it'll happen!). Pros and Cons that I have also considered: Dell has HDR, but I don't game and have a TV for HDR content (and I rarely watch TV anyway) ASUS has better I/O - but I don't think I need it ASUS has better factor colour calibration; however, I don't do anything colour critical (mostly hobby video editing, sometimes for a YouTube channel) so I'm unsure if colour accuracy is important - but I do strive for high production quality when I make videos. I also can't afford my own colour calibrator. Dell is 4K - loads more screen real estate, but unfortunately, I've heard from a friend Windows' display scaling isn't that great, and I want to end up with more screen real estate than the 24 inch 1080p monitor I currently have. The Dell cheaper than the ASUS, however, I'd need to order directly from Dell and it'll take 43 days+ to arrive (the ASUS one is available from SCAN UK with presumably quick delivery) Overall, both look like solid monitors, however I'm struggling to decide, especially since it relies on factors that I don't have first-hand experience of - namely, how 4K at 27inch is like to use, how Windows scaling looks and if it is necessary at 4K/1440p and weighing factor calibration (which might not be that important for my uses) vs 4K.
