Without going into the whole story because it was pretty long. I recently got a new motherboard, and Ram from Corsair RMA many months ago after determining that I had 2 bad memory modules. I got a new CPU, as well, the 5950x. I was playing Sea of Thieves with friends the other day, and I noticed the OC on my GPU seemly kept crashing my game, then, without warning, my whole PC went black screen, no mouse, no keyboard, but the system was still "running". On top of that, there was never an entry in the Windows Log reports about the issue, which was the cause before I got the new ram, mother, and CPU. So I wanted to ask, can a bad overclock, even a minor one, cause the computer to black out and not respond to HID input from the Mouse and keyboard, but the rest of the system is fine? Is this a known issue with AMD-based systems? As a double-check, I reset my bios, and then just turned on DOCP, and then ran Cinebench and Heaven Benchmark at the same time for 10 minutes and the PC was fine. Do I take it, it was a bad OC? Or something else? I wasn't sure what subject to ask this question under so if the mods need to move it to a different part of the forum, thanks.

Can you guys tell me your experiences/opinions with GALAX video cards? I read some reviews online but couldn't reach a conclusion on whether they are really bad constructed or have a good bang for the buck.

Hi all! I had the misfortune of getting a GPU from AliExpress that seems to be fake. I was devastated at first but I'm not the type to fully give up and am the type to be very curious. So I embarked on a journey to discover how those scammers work and just wanted to figure things out. After many weeks of much trial and error, watching YouTube videos and much research, I still can't figure this out, so I'm appealing for help. Here's what I got. I bought what they claimed was a GTX 970. Once finding out it's not, I went on to find out what I thought was a GTX 550ti. I was wrong. I think it's a GTS 450. There are 4 VRAM chips. Each are 1Gb, or 128MB. So this must be a 512MB card. The GPU has GF106 written on it. There rest is mostly crossed out to hide the true GPU variant, but I think it's the GF106-110-KA-A1. This confirms it's a GTS 450. At first I thought it was a 1GB card, but anyway, upon going to techpowerup (https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/?architecture=NVIDIA&manufacturer=&model=GTS+450&version=&interface=&memType=GDDR5&memSize=512&since=) to find a viable BIOS, only 1 match came up: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/108773/palit-gts450-512-110121 It didn't work. Windows freezes on load (the twirly circles) and sometimes it has graphical artifacts (blue/purple lines). Safe mode works fine. If I load up Windows with disabled signed drivers, Windows loads up, but GPU-Z reports the GPU is just the Microsoft Basic Video Adapter, and nothing can be done to get drivers for it. I tried other BIOS ROMs too (other GTS 450), but I get similar results. What can I do?I don't want to give up getting this card to work! Thanks for helping!!

Hey guys, i found a UDS 100 difference between a 3060 from EVGA and a Palit one (this one is the cheapest) my plan its to have the card from at least 4 years or more but i have concerns about Palit, i don't know so much of the brand and i don't know if it worth to pay the 100 bucks more for the EVGA card, i'm not planning to make any overclock or something like that, juts plug and play.

Wanting to pass my Nintendo Switch though my PC so I can use discord to show my friends, have all my audio go though one place and not having to switch inputs all the time. Wondering what video cards do this and on the cheap if possible as 1080p60fps will be the max needed.

I'm in the process of picking parts for my first PC build and I want it to be as silent as possible. So far I've decided to go with Noctua for the CPU cooler but when it comes to the GPUs I don't see many that are marketed as quiet. I've decided to get an RTX 2070 SUPER but the only cards I see that could be quiet are the EVGA XC HYBRID and the MSI GAMING X TRIO. My problem with the Hybrid cooler is I don't know how loud the pump is so I don't know if that will be an issue. And the TRIO seems to be unavailable for purchase although this might change in a month or two when I actually buy the parts. My budget is roughly between $500-$600 USD. Any help figuring out what the quietest and coolest 2070 SUPER within my budget is greatly appreciated.

What is everyone's opinion on the 1080 Ti? Think it will be worth the purchase over the 1080 series? Or is this a cash grab?

So I'm making my first build Current specs: -i5 7600k w/hyper 212 evo -16 GB DDR4 RAM -EVGA 650W Gold+ -other specs don't really matter, my case is large enough for any card -I currently have a 1080p 60hz monitor -my budget allows for me to get a 1070 w my current monitor or a 1060 w a new 144hz display. which would be better -note: i mostly play solo games and competitive advantage in multiplayer does not matter -also, will the 1070 cause screen tear w my 60hz monitor?

Computer Restarts When Bench-marking Hi my name is Mark, I just bought a few PC parts from Amazon and ebay like a month ago. I bought this parts to upgrade my RIG. I use this PC mainly for work (AutoCad, Revit, 3ds Max, photoshop, Illustrator, premiere etc...) and very rarely for gaming. Here are the Specs before and after the Upgrade: Before Upgrade- CPU: Intel core i7 3770 (non K) MOBO: Asus H61m-c RAM: 16 GB Patriot 1333 Mhz GPU: EVGA GTX 780 3 GB reference edition SSD: Samsung EVO 850 120 GB HHD: Wester Digital Black Edition 1 TB PSU: Thermaltake Smart 750w 80+ Bronze OS: Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64 bit Edition After Upgrade- CPU: Intel core i7 3770 (non K) (Same CPU) MOBO: MSI Z77A-GD65 (Bought second hand like new 100% functional, from ebay) RAM: 32 GB G.skill Ripjaws X 1600 Mhz (Bought brand new from Amazon 4x8 kit) GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 ti FTW 3 (Bought brand new from Amazon) SSD: Samsung EVO 850 120 GB (Same SSD) HHD: Wester Digital Black Edition 1 TB (Same HHD) PSU: Thermaltake Smart 750w 80+ Bronze (Same PSU) OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Edition Now that you know a little bit about my PC's transformation story, I need someone to help decipher what is happening. Everything seems to be working just fine after the upgrade but as any well respected PC user would do, I performed a list of benchmarks to my upgraded PC, so I started with Unigine Heaven Benchmark. This is where my dilemma starts, I click the RUN button and the benchmark starts, after about 50 or 60 seconds my PC restarts (it does not crash or blue screen on me) it just restarts (more like a PSU issue). Unigine benchmarks are the only apps restarting my PC so far, because I also performed some renders in AutoCAD, 3ds Max and Revit (as you may know, these renders are more CPU demanding than GPU). In the other hand the synthetic benchmarks I think they are more GPU demanding. Based on the recommended PSUs for the video card I bought (1080 ti FWT 3) and also on the online PSU calculators, my PSU is more than fine and up to the task for my peripherals inside my PC. I've trying to find something in my MOBO's BIOS that might be causing the problem (regarding power and voltage) but everything seems to be fine. In the beginning I thought it was my PSU causing the problem but then I tried all my new PC parts in my previous MOBO (Asus H61m-c, except for the RAM, I could only fit 16 GB 2x8 because of the 2 dims in it) and it worked just fine, even the benchmarks where running just fine. So, in conclusion, I do not know what is going on. Can someone help me out? Thanks in advance. PS: I also included a photo of my upgraded PC for reference.

I built my PC about a year ago and got comfortable with it for about a year so my PC skills are pretty rusty. I was playing PUBG as I always did but this time I had ReShade, a shader mod my Canadian buddies told me to install to "make the enemies pop out" and "enhance the gaming experience". But in the midst of my third game with the shader mod on, my computer just powers out for half a second and turns back on but the monitor does not display anything. I tried switching out the cable that powers the graphics card (Sapphire Nitro+ RX 470 4BG OC), switching the PCI slot and even reinstalling drivers but nothing helps. The card simply is not detected. The fans are not blowing but I'm pretty sure that's its idle fan technology. I might be wrong though. The LED display is on so it is not the PSU's problem (Corsair 750w, which handled this card and another AMD card before so it might not be the problem. It could be the ReShade or it simply could be my card's defects. I contacted Sapphire since I am still under warranty but I heard that their customer services sucks. Please HELP!!!! My system: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690 CPU @ 3.50GHz Microsoft Windows 10 (build 15063), 64-bit Drive 1: 1TB NAS WD Drive 2: 300GB Hitachi Hard Drive Drive 3: 120 GB Sandisk SSD (Boot) Drive 4: 480 GB Crucial SSD Motherboard: Asus Z (can't remember exactly) SAPPHIRE RX 470 NITRO+ 4GB OC (Linus reviewed this on his channel)

I wanted to create this as a general guide for consumers on the used market. MSRP is not an accurate method because (1) it can be arbitrary (2) it doesn't account for any changes in the marketplace at all. Current market value is not accurate (for the needs of most consumers) because (1) it fluctuates and (2) it is distorted by a small niche of miners who don't actually use it for creativity or gaming. The assumed rule is that a card is not worth its value to the consumer if an equal or superior card is significantly lower in price. Basically, this is a list of what you probably shouldn't pay more than, if you are hunting for the best performance to dollar. Rough approximations based on benchmarks. If a few numbers are off, please correct me. GTX 1070 -- $375 GTX 980 Ti -- $350 R9 Fury X -- $325 R9 Fury -- $300 GTX 980 -- $300 R9 390X -- $290 R9 390 -- $280 R9 290 -- $270 GTX 970 -- $270 GTX 1060 (6GB) -- $250 RX 480 -- $220 GTX 1060 (3GB) -- $200 RX 470 -- $190 GTX 770 -- $180 R9 280/280X/285 -- $165 GTX 680 -- $160 GTX 1050 Ti -- $140 GTX 670 -- $140 GTX 660 Ti -- $115 GTX 1050 -- $110 GTX 590 -- $110 RX 560 -- $100 GTX 580 -- $100 GTX 660 -- $90 RX 460 -- $90 R7 265 -- $90 R7 260X -- $85 GTX 570 -- $85 RX 550 -- $80 GTX 1030 -- $70 GTX 550 Ti -- $50

I will be editing 8k raw footage and my max budget for the video card or video cards is $2,000. I was planning to use an intel i9 7980xe. Is that overkill and if so should I get a cheaper CPU and up my budget for the graphics cards. Any suggestions?

PLEASE IGNORE THE EXPLANATION OF WHY I DISAGREE LINUS ABOUT THE LOW-END VIDEO CARD RANT. If you guys already watch Linus's video about the GT 730/R7 240 Rant. Then ill be like... "I SOMEWHAT DISAGREE WITH HIM!". And there are numerous reasons why i disagree with him. one of them it's because the Nvidia Geforce 210 is obsolete. I mean it's fine to buy the 2nd hand GeForce 210 for lower price but i know some people cannot thrust the 2nd hand Video Card (maybe it's damaged by overclocking it.), Another reason is that how much resolution does it support. If you guys want to have a 1440p or 4k Dual or Triple monitor setup. Then DON'T buy that GPU (because it cannot support those resolution). i much prefer buying HD 4350, GT 610 or a GT 730, 3rd reason is that there are some people who are just looking a video card that can only play popular basic games such as : Minecraft, CS : GO and Dota 2 which that doesn't use much GPU power. GT 730 can run those games fine at high settings but the GeForce 210 is not, Final Reason is the location of where you lived. If your computer store has only the video cards that the Tech Tubers think it's shit (like Kyle against the GT 610 and Linus against the GT 730). You don't have a choice other than buying it or buying it from E-Bay or Amazon. But the problem is the Taxes, Fees and Shipment Cost. Where i come from the Shipping Cost more than 20+ USD if i want to buy something in Amazon. Making the Price on the GeForce 210 around 50+ USD and the GT 730 if you want to buy to the nearest computer store is like few bucks more expensive but it have some short and long term differences. One is that you don't need to wait for the Delivery to arrive, Another one is that there are no additional taxes, fees nor shipment cost. And the final one is that it's around 50% - 80% better than the Geforce 210 making it suitable for basic games such as Minecraft, CS:GO, or Dota 2. You also asking... If they want to play games. They should buy higher end video cards. but for me i found that Tip worthless... Unless... they want to play games that are Graphic Intensive ones like Battlefield 1, Ark : Survival Evolved, Witcher 3 or/and much more. But if they only want to play Basic games then they should NOT buy the High-End Video cards since there's a diminishing return on the fps. Hope you guys understand that . But if they don't want to play anything and only want to do Multitasking. Then buy HD 4350 not GeForce 210 because it's the same price with better features. ANY WAYS LETS START THE DISCUSSION ABOUT THE DISPLAY ADAPTER... If you guys want to have a Dual or a Multiple monitor setup but you don't have a Appropriate Ports for it. then here's what you gonna do. THIS ONLY WORKED IF YOU HAVE AN OLD VIDEO CARD SITTING AROUND AND A MOTHERBOARD THAT HAS 2 OR MORE PCI x16 SLOT. 1. Install the Old Video Card into the 2nd PCI x16 Slot. Do not panic if you have a Different Video card on the First PCI Slot. it's fine (This is like PhysX Configuration) 2.Lets Configure the Monitor Ports. If you want to play games for only 1 Monitor then put that Port into the Strong GPU. (ex. Main Monitor to GTX 970) 3.Put the Secondary (And Tertiary) Monitor into the Low End GPU (ex Secondary Monitor to GT 730). 4.Open the Computer. And Open the Nvidia Control Panel (IDK with the AMD GPU thou) 5.Be Sure the Configuration looks like this : NOTE : 2 Monitors are in the GTX 970 GPU because i sometimes play with my friends with both monitors. 6. Be sure to set the PhysX to the Strong GPU. Not the Low End one. Pros : *You now have appropriate Ports for your monitor. *This Usually not going to affect the performance of the game since this is not PhysX. *Looks better from the Aesthetics of the PC. (if you're Low-End video card looks dope and not look just the PCB and small heat sink.) Cons : *More Power Consumption. *Temps are slightly increasing. *Some Space from the PCI parts are Being Occupied. Any Questions and i will answer them

Currently thinking about buying a GPU, currently I am using an GTX 1050ti that I am borrowing from a friend. When I built the bulk of the system, I was thinking about getting a gtx 1060, maybe a 1070 at most. However, since then, I got a set of freesync monitors from newegg for a really good deal and now im thinking about getting something from the Radeon side in order to utilize my ability to use a variable refresh rate. However, because i was expecting a much lower power card, I only have a corsair SF450 Power supply. My first choice in video device is a Vega 56, I only build a system about once evry 5 years, and I want something thats just a little bit overpowered for 1080p gaming in order to maximize my 75 hz monitors for triple A games in the next couple years to come. However im worried that my power supply might not be able to handle such a power hungry card, the way I see it, I have 2 options. A. Settle for a lower power card and buy an RX 580 (Im holding out for a month or two because of the rumors of a new set of Radeon cards on the horizon, plus black friday is approaching) B. Risk splurging for the Vega 56 with the possibility that I will have to remove my overclock from my processor and, in the worst case scenario, undervolt the GPU on the Vega. I have also found a lot of info suggesting that undervolting the Vega does not come with much of a perfomance loss, I figure even if its pwrformance drops 5%, it will still be better than an RX580 (unless you consider price to performance). I see a lot of conflicting sources about the reccomended wattage for a Vega 56, PCPartpicker and Gamers Nexus seems to think that the whole system will draw around 320ish watts when gaming, however multiple sources and forums that I have read seem to show that people think that 500-550W is the “minimum” needed for a system of this calibur, so I decided to reach out to you guys with my findings and see what you think! On paper, it really looks like the Vega 56 will work fine with my system, especially considering I dont have a super beefy processor. However I think we all know that in practice things dont always work out as well as one might think. Hoping someone has already tried and tested this! Hello. My rx 580 videocard is not recognized by Windows, not even as a basic video device. When I connect to gpu using hdmi there is no signal, I will not even post to the bios. I have checked bios settings (gigabyte gaming 7 z97x motherboard), and set everything possible to UEFI mode. I know PSU works, because it ran GTX 1080 TI couple of weeks ago. I am pretty sure videocard works as well because it is pretty much new and I had tested it a while ago. I have attempted almost every solution, though it might appear as though the card is dead, I am fairly certain that it still works, as I had this issue in the past, but I don't recall the solution at the present. Any help is appreciated. Thank You.

Well to save myself some time I figure just start a topic I'm new to the form or forms in general so please excuse any lack of etiquette I might use. I'm looking too get a better graphics card but budget wise I'm not going to spend 1800 on a card right now I have a AORUS RX 580 (long story) I was thinking about looking on ebay or kijiji but I've never sold or purchase anything before from these site. I know there are scammers out there I've seen the videos. So what would anyone suggest about looking or buying from these sites or maybe you know of a place where they sell used parts or would it be best just to save up. Stay safe and Thanks
