  1. Hello community. A year ago I bought Ultrastar 20 TB - had no problems with it. So recently, just few weeks ago, I purchased another one - same Ultrastar 20 TB. But this new one driving me crazy cause it has this permanent vibration. And because of this vibration it is impossible to keep it in the case - it makes all kinda crazy sounds. I made a few videos for you to check. I purposely did not attach the data cable to it, only the power cable. I also recorded my previous 20 TB - to show that it does not vibrate as much as this one. Besides these two I have 18 TB, 16 TB also Ulstrastar HDD's and none of them have such vibration. On this video I recorded just the new one. It's out of the case, inside the case it's much worse. BTW - the read/write sounds that you will hear on the video are from the other drives that I have, I am totally used to that sounds, but this buzzing sound from vibration drives me crazy. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kf_JmPzGREUXYT84p8RaeYmEAkWLHWAe/view And on the second video I recorded my new 20 TB vs my last year 20 TB - to show that the other does not make that vibration and sound. Both of them are disconnected from data cable. When I touch the older one drive - I can feel slight vibration too, but it's so small, that it does not cause any strange sounds. Same goes to all the rest of my HDD's. But this new one - vibrates like crazy. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KSOvGMKpYovGmHXTlLw2ixm3QMJjb3pj/view And in this video how it sounds when it's installed in the case = / https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BgKgQdnN9fgnEG35oLUGxUJD-71j_bxu/view So right now just put it outside of the PC case, on a pillow, so at least the loud buzzing went away, but the deep one is still there. So, maybe someone of you encountered the same problem? Any advise what to do here? I contacted WD support, but right now they did not answered much, just send me first "general" answer - read this article, read that article. What do you think are my changes for a RMA? Cause they might answer smth like - "Oh, well, it's HDD, it has moving parts, it's expected, SMART test passed(BTW I did it, it does pass) - so nothing we can do, just live with it." And I will loose few months/weeks for RMA.
  2. So I have a home theater setup using Klipsch speakers and their subwoofer (got a bundle, here’s the link to my exact products: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B097CJYZHD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 ) Anyway, I've Had it for about 6 months now and it’s great, till about a week ago I started hearing the Sub vibrating when I step in certain places. Now it does this all the time when I am walking within distance from it, with a few steps turning its vibration and base up to 12 and doing it continuously till I pull the plug on it. I have NO idea how to fix this, please let me know if there is a way!
  3. This was caused bcz of gpu fans not psu , as the gpu got abot 60c the fans wound reach 1400 rmp and as the temp droped like 59c it would immediately stop. This cased the vibration and sry for the trouble. fixed the proble with software to control a fan. vid20230912203956_5hukaLAI.mp4
  4. Hey, new to the forum here - I've built one PC before in my life - in an NZXT S340 case, which comes with two of NZXT's FN V2 airflow fans, one at the top and one behind the GPU. Both are connected by molex as part of the case. The rear one has failed, and the top one is grinding, so it's time. So I know just enough to know Noctua fans are well-regarded, thus the Redux fans (one P14 1500RPM on top, one P12 1700RPM in the rear since the top and rear support different sizes, and the RPM difference purely because those are the top speeds for each). So question 1: should I not be buying the fastest fans they offer, since they're all at the same price? Is there a good reason to buy a 1200 RPM P14 for a case fan instead of a 1500 RPM? Is it just louder? Question 2 (main question): These fans have optional silicone "anti-vibration pads" that are an extra $7 for 14 ct? So me, DIY person, says "well I can get silicone gaskets for stuff, I went through that with finding food/heat-safe stuff for homebrewing fittings" but the threads I read online point to the SCREW being the culprit, hence the silicone "screws" that Noctua and other companies sell. So...do I need one, both, or neither of those if I use a plain silicone o-rings/washers, which I know how to find? I'm never going to see these things.
  5. This is a school paper about vibration in hard disks comparing RAID structures. As the resources were limited, a more resourceful approach would be interesting. https://docs.google.com/document/d/14EiVL0MraHy-dzRizBoDrDsdrPepHxGt/edit
  6. Hello, I want to put my PS4 on a metal filing cabinet like this: I am wondering if this is a safe thing to do, as the filing cabinet isn’t as sturdy / more prone to vibration than wood. Thanks.
  7. We've had a new motor installed for opening our garage door. There's a desktop computer in a room above our garage. The computer room is subject to intense vibrations while the motor runs. The room is carpeted and the computer sits on a shelving unit. Generally, should I be concerned about having the computer running while the room is vibrating?
  8. Budget (including currency): 200 Country: US Current build Lian Li Lancool 2 TUF X570 plus wifi ryzen 7 3700x Red devil 5700 xt m.2 ssd (x2) 64gb ram (4 slots) AIO water cooler dual fan I have a current build that I'm moving into a new mobile workstation I'm building in a motorhome. It's a pretty powerful system built in a LianLi Lancool 2 case. Right now I'm looking for a cost effective solution to mount the PC in the motorhome in a way where I don't have to move it or store it for driving, and have the PC protected at the same time from any bumpy roads. Some people have suggested me the rack style shock proof cases that AV companies use, but those are far too expensive. I would like to not change my case if possible, however it does seem like something with a horizontal motherboard mounting would be better. I have been considering some sort of test bench like setup with some kind of shock proofing under it. Any suggestions are appreciated. Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place for this question.
  9. Budget (including currency): N/A Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: N/A Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): N/A Hey Everyone! I know this is a bit of an odd question to ask here, but I'm wondering if it would be possible/practical to use Noctua anti-vibration fan mounts in my recording booth build. Specifically, I was wondering if it would be feasible to use them to suspend a bathroom fan inside the ventilation unit I'm designing for the booth. I'm using the bathroom ventilation fan as the main air-puller for air intake, in an enclosed unit on the roof of my booth. It'll intake from the top of the booth, and push air into some 4" corrugated tubing in a spiral around the inside of the vent box, before terminating in a vent on the interior of the booth, with a swivel mouth so I can direct the air either towards my face if I'm warm, or to the wall if I don't need direct cooling. The fan itself has a sound rating of 0.3 sones, so it's the quietest possible bathroom fan, and it's my hope that the extra lengthy vent tubing will get rid of any remaining fan sound that still ends up being made from the air that makes its way into the booth interior . The only thing I'm worried about, now, is sound being transmitted through the structure of my sound booth. I worry that if I mount the fan to the top of the booth with traditional hardware, any rattling will be transferred directly through the walls, into the interior of the booth, rendering all this effort useless. You can see in the pics I've provided that the fan (The big grey box inside the roof compartment) would attach to the top panel (The panel hovering above the whole thing, with the white intake cover). And the corrugated vent tubing would snake around inside the big open cavity of the space within. So would Noctua anti-vibration fan mounts be a good solution? or I could just loosely zip tie instead of using screws, so it's hanging loose from the top interior surface of the vent unit? Lol I know this isn't an acoustics or sound engineer forum, but any advice would be helpful!
  10. Sorry I have a lot of questions I want to ask so I'll do it at once here since there's some case modding and some PSU cabling. I'll start with the psu. I got myself used but basically new RM850i for cheap. One of the reasons I got it was to get myself custom sleeved cables. I know I can do extentions but to me that's more for psu-s that don't have modular options. I wanted to go get my cables done at first from something like cablemod, that was off the table because of the expense. I won't pay for a few cables as much as I paid for the PSU itself. Next I thought about doing it myself, however that got complicated really quick. So here's my predicament: 1.) What kind of connectors does PSU and PC use from what I gathered they are 5557 automotive connectors, but I'm confused what pitch? I believe it's 4.2mm but if someone knows for sure please tell me. 2.) Where to get them in bulk or for a decent price? I'm thinking about getting them here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32802993594.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.25c77f1c4NixNc&algo_pvid=65be8bcc-5b2a-4e71-b9a8-78b60f458822&algo_expid=65be8bcc-5b2a-4e71-b9a8-78b60f458822-0&btsid=0ab6d59515861000855057984ec9d9&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_ 3.) What kind of wire to use. From what I gathered it's a good idea to use 16AWG but from what I see 18 is used for my PSU. The question is also about it being a good idea in the long term since the 16awg wire is twice as expensive. Wire link: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32624865621.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.26e83c00EXV0cY&mp=1 4.) How to choose sleeving diameter. So the external diameter of this wire above is 2.3mm. Does that mean I go 3mm? If I go 16 awg that has 3mm do I go 4mm? What is a good rule of thumb for this kind of thing as to make the wire look half decent? I will go with a black wire and dark sleeving. 5.) Are gold plated contacts a thing? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33008446545.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.3cb97f1c2QYpSw&algo_pvid=67009243-6645-440a-bd05-049d6be17355&algo_expid=67009243-6645-440a-bd05-049d6be17355-9&btsid=0ab6d67915861011511901600e5202&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_,searchweb201603_ The case I'm using a Fractal define c case. I mounted the front 140mm fans and the rear 120mm with a bit of a caveat. I wanted to use those rubber screw things, but also those rubber fan frames (i really wanted the thing to be quiet). One problem the case uses those slits for fans so you can mount with fans at different heights. No problem, I'm an engineer so I designed like a thing for reducing the hole diameter and to lock the rubber screw in place, image below, the part is 3d printed and friction fits in the slit. I did that for all the fans on the case. I assembled the case and wanted to test the acoustics. The fans spin up to max speed and I have a terrible low pitch humming noise every half a second to a second. From what I deduced it's from the front fans being close together and having a sort of weird oscillating resonance between them. I did what every sensible person would. Whipped out a sound meter and did the testing. Fans mounted just with the screws, screws plus rubber bumpers, just the rubber screws and rubber screws and bumpers. Made little to no difference to raw dB output. Around 58-59 on full speed. The resonance was reduced a bit with just the rubber screws and just the normal screws. However it's still quite noticeable, is there any other way one would go about reducing that noise? I'm using Arctic P14 PWM PST CO fans in the front and the same fan just 120mm in the rear. The rear fan is really quiet even at full speed and makes no wired noises.
  11. would the vibrations hurt the HDD's ?
  12. I have my PC and all its drives in my room on the second floor of the house. Like most houses the second floor is obviously not concrete and is your average wooden floor boards. However the issue with these wooden floor boards (or maybe it's just this house, it's pretty dreadful) is that when someone is just walking across it I can feel the vibrations through my chair from the floor and therefore I am assuming the hard drive can also well and truly feel the vibrations through the case from the floor too. This concerns me because it makes me question whether this could limit my drive's lifespan, reliability and increase the chance of a fail; recently happened to me actually. Would elevating my PC's case off the floor with something like a stand be worthwhile in eliminating the effects of the vibrations from external sources outside the case?
  13. So i recently upgraded my case and replaced all the stock chassis fans with Corsair AF140's & AF120's (2 Intake Front, 1 Exhaust Top & 1 Exhaust Back). While the fan "Air Flow" noise is expected, i can also hear a slight humming coming from my case. When i apply a bit of pressure to the areas of my case where the 140's are installed (top and front) the humming/vibration stops. After looking online for solutions, I found some Anti-Vibration Mounting Bolts & Pads by Noctua. So I was wondering, would installing these instead of the traditional screws dampen the vibrating "Hum" I hear?
  14. Hey I'm replacing my stock s340 case fans with the fractal design r3 silence fans set to exhaust and wanted to make custom anti vibration pads I think I got it but was wondering if I should put some rubber around the border aswell to help air flow and possible vibration from border or is this good enough???
  15. Any idea on how to mount a 3.5" drive with no more spots for it? I was thinking command strips or double sided tape but I am worried about vibration or it moving. Will a verticle mount matter?
  16. Hi. My PCs stereo speakers are currently sitting on my glass James table. They're really bassey and I can feel the vibration in my hands when I'm at my PC. In terms of acoustics, I'm sure set up this isn't great. However, I'm more concerned if the vibration could potentially damage the speakers and/or glass table? Thanks in advance
  17. Hey guys, Destiny 2 just moved over to Steam from Battle.net and I'm having trouble getting my controller vibration to work when I'm connected wireless. I'm using an Xbox One Elite controller with the official Xbox One wireless adapter and it worked seamlessly on Battle.net; however, ever since swapping to Steam, the controller vibration only works when I am plugged in through USB. The controller vibration is checked on in game (as it works wired), and I tried using the Steam Big Picture Mode controller settings to set "rumble preference" to "on." The big picture mode settings did not help and actually made things worse because my right joystick constantly swapped to a cursor in the menus. Has anyone else had this problem/know how to fix it?
  18. Hi guys, i´ve noticed that my CM ATCS 840 gets noisy from time to time. It seems like the noise is coming from the left side panel vibrating (when i touch it/hold it in place, the noise stops). I´ve made sure that it´s sitting in place properly already. Do you have any suggestions/ideas how i could fix this issue and stop the side panel from vibrating? Other than that i managed to get the case pretty silent with 3 new 200mm Noctua fans, so this vibration stuff is really killing it for me right now.. Thanks in advance!
  19. Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive. The PC makes a weird buzzing noise when there's an input such as scrolling or pressing a key on the keyboard. The noise is not too loud, but in an empty and quiet room you can easily hear it. It also buzzes when under load sometimes. Such as running a game or opening an application which I found to be normal. But just when simply scrolling through reddit, it buzzes as I'm scrolling. If I stop scrolling, it stops buzzing. Here is the noise it makes: https://clyp.it/sceboftw Make sure to listen with headphones because the sound is muffled here and try to ignore the fans spinning noise. Starts around 0:05 then as you can hear me pressing a button on the keyboard, the noise starts. If I release a button, the noise stops. List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem. I checked if everything is plugged in correctly. I tried unplugging my headset, mouse, keyboard, ethernet cable and turning off my monitor. I checked the temperatures while running Cinebench, everything was normal. ~60°C on CPU scoring 4734, all cores running at ~4GHz. Post relevant photos of build/parts here. https://imgur.com/a/IeSMXPV Provide any additional details you wish below. Could this be GPU coil whine? The noise also happens when the GPU isn't under heavy load and fans are not turning (low temperatures). 20. Recently my hard drives have become incredibly noisy, when i got both of them outside of my case my older HDD from 2013 was loud when i was just holding it while the other was not. So i replaced this WD Blue 1TB with a new one that i bought but now when iv put it back into my system its just as loud even though one WD Blue is brand new and the other not even a year old. I'm so frustrated because i cannot find what i'm supposed to do anymore.
  21. So i built a portable little moster to take with me when I go over the road (I'm a long haul semi truck driver) Ryzen 9 3900x Rtx 2080 ti Yada yada But the issue is trying to keep my cpu cool enough my buddy and I like to play GTA online but my cpu keeps hitting 83°-87°c and I feel that is too hot, I don't notice any performance loss but id like to keep this little chip as long as I can. So I have considered that there may not be enough air flow but I cant put anymore fans inside,(it's the tiny case linus used for his divorced parents build and i have 4 fans inside excluding the gpu and cpu coolers) so I've come to the conclusion of water cooling. ( I plan to do case mods to have the rad outside of the case) but my only concern is while I'm driving every now and then I hit a nasty bump and I have no idea I how well the tubes would withstand the bumps. So I'd there is any product I should check out or if standard fittings would be fine i would love some input. Or if I should try to find a better air cooler than the stock wrath prism cooler. And ignore the rats nest of cables, the sfx power supply i got gave me cables too short to really route and manage properly. I plan after the cooling issue is solved to buy some custom cables so I can have the case more presentable.
  22. Hi. I have an asus laptop with an SSD boot drive and a mass storage hard drive. I bought this cooling pad/laptop incliner for it. The fans spinning cause mild vibration. Can this vibration damage my hard drive? The device has this blue rubber brace around the drive to safeguard it from vibration...but still curious.. Will it damage the drive?
  23. Hi friends I have installed my usb controller to my pc and also installed the speed Link driver and using xbox360ce emulator 64 bit and 32 bit depending on the game. Only problem is vibration is not working in games. Vibration does work when I go to usb controller settings and test vibration there it works fine but not working in games. In windows 7 it used to work fine but now I'm in windows 10 and for some reason it does not work. Is it something I need to turn on in Xbox 360ce simulator? Please help me solve this problem. I tried searching online and YouTube and there is only one solution I can find is download and install the speed link driver which I already have.
  24. So my 500GB SSD was filling up and I wanted a hard drive to put videos and movies/larger games on it and I just took a old 1TB 7200RPM hard drive (5-6 years old) from my old prebuilt from Best Buy. Even with dampeners on the harddrive cage from my P300, it was still vibrating my whole desk and it was making a loud buzzing noise. Then I recently upgraded my case to a Corsair 275R airflow and thought the problem would go away, but i'm still getting the same problem. Should I pick up a new harddrive or ssd? For an SSD i was looking at this: (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B073SBX6TY?tag=pcp0f-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1), and for a HDD I was looking at this (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0088PUEPK?tag=pcp0f-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1). Edit: Sorry, I meant this SSD: (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07YFF3JCN?tag=pcp0f-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1)
