Hi, so I'm making an new pc and I'm gona use it for indie game dev, and some casual low- mid level gaming. I have a limited budget tho. I am confused wether to get a i3 10th (10100f 4 core 8 thread) and a Quadro T600 (only available in budget) or wether i should get a 5600g and buy a GPU a year or 2 later. Also, pls don't waste your time suggesting the rtx 3050 bcz it's obviously not gonna sell for 250 or even less than 300 bucks. Thanks in advance.

Budget (including currency): €6000 -> €7000 Country: Netherlands (I am planning to shop at Alternate.nl) Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: GPU Rendering, GPU/CPU base simulation, VFX work, UE5 Development Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Software that I use often: Maya, Houdini, I render with Redshift (GPU renderer) I need a lot of headroom on things like caching stuff in RAM. Hello! It's been quite a while. I built my last PC over 4-5 years ago and especially now that I am putting it through it's paces, It's starting to show it's age. I want to build an entirely new system. Here's the parts I know for SURE are gonna be in there: Case : Lian Li O11 (wide case, can hold lots of things) CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X GPU: GTX 3090 TI (I don't know which brand to go with yet) I just need info for: A motherboard: I was thinking of the GIGABYTE X570S UD. 2 TB NVME Drive for software + OS (Seagate FireCuda 530 2 TB SSD is what I had in mind) 8 TB HDD for long term storage. (Seagate SkyHawk 8TB) 64 Gb Ram, preferably > 3000 Mhz (I need help with matching RAM to my motherboard, last build I did I screwed up there) A proper power supply. How much power is this going to draw? Cooling: I want to invest in some quality fans and heatfins to cool my CPU with. I hope I provided you guys with enough info! I really appreciate the help since I'm very insecure about the RAM, power and cooling part. Some overhead in power wouldn't hurt since I am running 2 graphics cards, after all. Thanks, Sasbom UPDATE: I went with a DARK ROCK PRO4 I upgraded mobo to GIGABYTE X570 AORUS XTREME. I was only able to get 1 GPU, instead of the 2 I'd hoped for, but it's the MSI GeForce Suprim 3090 ti. I've got 1500W power, so hopefully I can fit in a second GPU in the future. For RAM I went with the CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 64GB (4x16) , it was listed as being compatible. https://pangoly.com/en/compatibility I added 5 Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM fans because my PC is gonna be running LONG. :') That kinda solves a lot of my issues and ensures I won't be bottlenecked in the future!

Hey guys, I do motion graphics and 3D/VFX stuff partly from home and am fed up with external storages, cloud solutions etc. etc. I'm looking for a NAS solution with the following requirements: - should be able to work off of - low power consumption - low cost (bang for my buck) - ssd cache?! - at first RAID1 4tb (possible upgrade to eg. RAID5) - small form factor - provide clients with a download link - (not necessarily) stream video content to a projector I built some motion graphics rigs in the past, so I'm not a complete hardware noob =P Can you guys give me some advice on this?

How much vram do i need in a video card to be able to produce a movie like Valerian city of a thousand planets? is 8gb of vram enough? is 12gb of vram enough? is 24 gb of vram enough? if 8gb of vram isnt enough and 12gb is plenty enough then now i know to buy like 5 video cards that have 12gb of vram in the future, since octane takes the lowest amount of vram if put with a 24gb video card toghther with a 4gb video card what i want to know is if an 8gb video card is plenty enough of ram, so then i can buy duplicates to speed up my rendering process but i dont know if 8gb is enough to satisfy plenty for huge work loads like move vfx that include abunch of materials provided with the software used i need someone to give me a range of how much i can do with the amount of vram in a video card . help?

I work as a visual effects artist and i'm looking to build a workstation for home. I've not built a PC before so would like some advice but i'm up for the challenge and i've done a fair bit of research into this parts list. My original budget was £3k but i've gone slightly over budget with this list (by £600). I'd really appreciate anyones comments on whether they think this is a good build for the price, if it could be improved anywhere, if there are any potential issues with parts etc. (PCPartPicker says the Noctua cooler is not compatible but i'm planning to get the threadripper version of that cooler that was recently announced) PCPartPicker part list: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cf2zVY Price breakdown by merchant: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cf2zVY/by_merchant/ CPU: AMD - Threadripper 1950X 3.4GHz 16-Core Processor (£979.99 @ CCL Computers) CPU Cooler: Noctua - NH-U14S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler (£51.97 @ Amazon UK) Motherboard: MSI - X399 GAMING PRO CARBON AC ATX TR4 Motherboard (£339.99 @ CCL Computers) Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 64GB (4 x 16GB) DDR4-3333 Memory (£549.99 @ Amazon UK) Storage: Samsung - 960 EVO 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive (£204.00 @ Aria PC) Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Founders Edition Video Card (£663.62 @ Amazon UK) Case: Corsair - Carbide 400C ATX Mid Tower Case (£72.00 @ Aria PC) Power Supply: Corsair - RMx 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£115.98 @ Ebuyer) Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit (£82.20 @ Aria PC) Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link - TL-WDN4800 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi Adapter (£26.98 @ PC World Business) Monitor: LG - 34UC79G-B 34.0" 2560x1080 144Hz Monitor (£479.97 @ Amazon UK) Keyboard: Logitech - K120 Wired Standard Keyboard (£15.13 @ More Computers) Total: £3581.82 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-08-03 22:06 BST+0100

Hey, Sorry about not putting a build here but my go to would be the 1300$ build on http://www.logicalincrements.com/ . But I do realise editing and mostly Afterefects require different things and what I have noticed is that memory and procesors are on higher priority than a graphics card there. I will be buying from https://www.mlacom.si/ site because I get the best deal in my country but the prices are still quite inflated so I would really love if you guys could suggest me your build on their site https://www.mlacom.si/konfigurator (after you open the tab you can ctrl f to find the product) so the budget I have is made in reality for my country. Ok now let me put down some bulletpoints for refference of what I need the PC for sorted by importance: Gaming adobe Afterefects adobe premiere adobe photoshop I have a budget of 1500€ but can stretch it up to the bare limit 1700€ if the upgrades are really meaningful. For now I don't need more than 2 terabytes of mass storage and I don't need more than an ssd for windows since I have a 250GB ssd that I will use for games from my old rig. I can't take anything else from the old rig since the computer will be for my sister. I already have 2 screens and all the other external hardware. In the future I might opt in for a third display as long as that doesn't change the pc build too much or have to go an extra mile to do so. I am upgrading the PC since I am going into profesional VFX/editing and going to collage. Also I would preffer the Nvidia graphics card just because of shadowplay. I would like my build to be water cooled as long as it doesn't impact the price too much. I can wait a maximum of 1 month if there is any new hardwere comming out that might change the build. Thank you all for the help!

Hi Friends, I finished my studies in Post production, with a good background in IT but not too good with hardware lol, My Budget is $2500 to $2800 CAD If I can save money that would be great (who doesn't want to save) So here is what I am planning to build, Preference as below: GPU: 1080 ti 11 GB (guide me which company) heard that EVGA is coming up with liquid cooling. CPU: i7-7700 K (if any other preference guide me which one ) Motherboard: (guide me which one) might go for SLI in future. over-clock needed for performance. RAM: 16 GB to 32 GB (2400-3200 ) (if there is no RGB it's ok, that way i will be able to spend money in other components) Storage: 512 GB M.2 and 2 TB hard-drive CPU Cooler: (guide me which one) which keeps the CPU real cool. Liquid cooling prefered PSU: (guide me which one) Case: not looking for fancy but has good specs. Monitor: If it can come in the budget, or else I'll throw some more money to get one, but your suggestions are still worth diamonds Also throw suggestions on where can I save money and your comments on this build will really be appreciated. Love you all tech lovers. Waiting for your suggestions.

animaiton New Rig for 3D Animation, VFX and Rendering.
Rahul3D posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hello Friends I am from 3D animation and VFX background. I do not play games on my work machine. so i need help to build my new rig only for animation and vfx which need complex rendering 3D task. Rendering fast is my first preference. I have budget around 1500 USD. (This cost does not include HDD, Graphic Card, Monitor as i already having all these.) After doing some research on internet i have come up with following. Please let us know your thoughts on this. 1. Asus X99 - A II Motherboard. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/X99-A-II/overview/ 2. i7 6800K (Brodwell-E) https://ark.intel.com/products/94189/Intel-Core-i7-6800K-Processor-15M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz 3. Corsair Carbide series 400 R http://www.corsair.com/en/carbide-series-400r-mid-tower-case OR Corsair Carbide Series Spec 03 http://www.corsair.com/en/carbide-series-spec-03-white-led-mid-tower-gaming-case 4. Corsair DDDR4 Vengeance LPX (4X8) 32GB 3000Mhz RAM http://www.corsair.com/en/vengeance-lpx-32gb-4x8gb-ddr4-dram-3000mhz-c15-memory-kit-black-cmk32gx4m4b3000c15 I already have asus N-vidia 750 Ti 2gb OC graphic card. Looking forward to have suggestions from you Thanks Rahul -
Hi all, I'm wondering whether anyone could recommend a laptop for me. Currently I am on a film technology and VFX course and I also edit on premiere pro. I currently have a Macbook pro 2017- 13 in (i5, 8gb) which is struggling to keep up with anything media related. (As I said, choosing a macbook was my downfall haha). Currently I am planning to sell my laptop and then top up the extra money needed to buy a new laptop. Currently I have my eye on the Dell XPS as it seems to have the specs that I want and I have seen some good reviews about it. However whilst watching reviews, there were some issues stated with the fact that it very easily throttles and doesn't live up to its specification for speed. I was also told previously that the XPS is an 'over glorified Facebook machine', which is fair enough. I stupidly only realised that the only ports that the XPS has is usb c/thunderbolt ports, which would mean that I will have to live through dongle hell again Does anyone have recommendations for any laptops with suitable specs? I feel like I need at least 16 gb of memory and a good/ capable graphics card (doesn't have to be the newest). I have been looking at some gaming pcs, but I feel like they are too flashy/heavy haha. My budget is around £1400-£1700. Thanks!

Hey guys, I'm buying a new PC for Visual Effects work (Houdini - which is Multi-core CPU Rendering Software), GPU is the least important part in my build i think, but i still need a very decent one so it won't cause me problems and still benefit me when it comes to GPU Acceleration. My Budget is around 2000$ (USD). I had a recommended build for 1500$, but now i can squeeze more money up to 2000$. The 1500$ Build Recommendation: CPU: AMD Ryzen 2700 (8 Cores - 3.2 GHz - 4.1 Turbo GHz - 20 MB Smart cache) GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti 4GB RAM: 64 GB DDR4 Storage: 240 GB SSD Storage: 2 TB HDD Motherboard: B350 Gaming PS: I don't need Mouse/Keyboard or Screen. Thanks!

Please help me I want to build a PC for vfx compositing and heavy rendering My budget is $ 6000 My questions are 1 - SLI or Single beast? 2 - What are the pros & cons of SLI only in work performance? 3 - which mother board to use if using SLI GPU? 4 - if SLI doesn't work properly, can i use single GPU over the same mother board? If yes, what's the process then? 5 - can every software may run with SLI? or some specifics are 6 - what actually matter in fast rendering and smooth performance? My softwares are Adobe after effects cc 2018, premiere pro cc 2018, 3ds Max, v-ray, Maya.

So... I need to build a new workstation. I have a decent laptop for mobile work (Gigabyte Aero 14 6700hq, 1060 6GB) but my desktop was originally built as a small form factor gaming pc running a 4th gen i5. I've upgraded it to 16GB RAM and a 1060 6GB but I'm hitting the limit of its capabilities. I've done some research on Puget Systems site (love the fact they make all their hardware tests public), but I could do with a bit more advice. The majority of my projects are 1080p final exports working with a mix of 4K 25p/50p and 1080 50p/100p footage. While my playback is definitely usable but sometimes a little sluggish, my export times are killing me. I need faster than playback encoding as I often have up to 20 40-60 minute sequences with multiple video streams to export. My other issue is After Effects rendering. Most of my AE work is motion graphics and light VFX. When trying to export tracked and masked motion graphics, I am usually looking at up to 1 hour to render a 30-40 second clip @ 1080p25. For any working files, I always export as Cineform which does help slightly with export speeds although all final deliverables are h.264. For some reason, on my laptop and desktop, Adobe Media Encoder will only allow software encoding for h.264 which is definitely contributing to my slow exports. So... on to the new system. I'm looking for the best bang for buck performance. I currently have a budget of up to £2500 ($3400, €2850) but this will have to include around 20TB of storage and a 10gbe NIC for my existing system to turn it in to a storage server. Based on my research so far, an i7 8700k looks to be the best value CPU, although the 16 PCIe lanes could cause an issue as I'd like 2 NVMe drives, GPU and a 10gbe NIC. Ideally I'd like to have room to upgrade or add capture cards in the future if needed. I'd like to stick to Intel as I may need to use Thunderbolt devices in the future. For the GPU, I'm looking at a 1080ti as it seems to offer the best performace per £,$,€. I'd like 64GB RAM, not sure on the benefits of speed and latency on my workflow so advice here would be appreciated. As for the rest of the build, most likely 2x Samsung 970 pro's (512 boot, 1tb project drive), an 80+ platinum PSU to suit the components I settle on, a low key workstation case (ideally with soundproofing), 2x 10gbe NIC (unless built in to motherboard), and motherboard will have to wait until I can decide on a CPU. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. edit - So after being an idiot and not reading the sticky, I currently have all the peripherals I plan to use with the new machine. I'm using 2 Dell 2417h monitors, Corsair K95 RGB (I hope it doesnt break, I love my macros) and a Corsair Scimitar (MORE MACROS!!!!)

Hello, looking to build a new pc for running mass physics with thousands of pieces, running voxel based smoke and fire simulations, and then just general workstation stuff on the 3D and video side of things. Looking to go amd and have the gpu supported by cinema 4d and nuke. Any help is greatly appreciated, i built my current rig 4 years ago and its almost to the point of a stock bestbuy pc. Sticking it inside a old rusted pacard bell case just as an fyi. Hoping to spend $3000-$4000

HI, I need help with choosing components and direction of a build/ Upgrade I'm completing, Im a VFX and Motion Graphics artist and most my produts are displayted on large format LED screens so project sizes can range from 4k to 12k depending on screen resolution. My current system is coming up on 7-8 years (can't remember) old done a few upgrade in the time including case, custom cables an SSD when they were $2-$3 per GB, GPU and other design components. my core part of the system CPU (i7 2600, Gigabyte mother board, RAM, PSU and HDD have all not changes in the past 5 years if not longer on some components), im looking at upgrading most of these except possible the PSU unless someone has a compelling reason as to why i should. I'm deciding between going to a i7/ i9 8 core build 16 hyper thread with 64 GB of ram and M.2 SSD, or should i go a Xeon with ECC memory + m.3 SSD? Any advise would be helpful, PC may be used for some gaming and testing on these large screens. Thanks in Advanced

Hi, I am thinking of getting a new PC / upgrade. My main use cases are gaming, virtualization of servers for testing and a bit visual effects. Here is my current rig: CPU: Intel Core i7-4770 (non k) Mainboard: Asus Z97-A RAM: 16 GB DDR3 Corsair 1600 MHz GPU: Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 10 CM 600W CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 SSD: 2x 120 GB Raid 0 (Samsung 850 Evo) HDD: 2 TB I'm considering buying a: Intel Core i9-9900k (cause of the virtualization workload) 16 GB DDR4 (Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 3200) Asus ROG Strix Z390-F Gaming Mainboard 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD First, does is make sense of getting a new rig? I initially wanted to get only the 2TB M.2 SSD but I read that those dosen't work well / make sense on Z97. What you guys think about the new components I am thinking of getting? And is my current PSU with 600W capable of driving the new rig? Thanks in advance for the replies Regards Max

I just posted on here but I think I got something that works. Any thoughts on this for under $1550???? http://pcpartpicker.com/list/xKn6D8 I want it to handle 4k editing out of the box with no overclocking. I will have 1 fan in the rear and 1 fan up top. I'm fine with putting the quality to 1/2 I guess. I had a 5820k but the 6700K should still be good for editing right???? I HAVE A 980TI FOR F**KING EDITING. NOT ALL OF MY APPLICATIONS CAN / WILL SUPPORT THE NEW ARCHITECTURE I GET THIS QUESTION EVERY TIME. lol sorry for being harsh but I just need to clear this up tell me what your thoughts on the build! and this is the cheapest 980ti right now that's new so I'll take it.
-
BUDGET: $1550 Hi I'm building a new pc and I wanna buy the parts tomorrow. I want this STRICTLY for editing. I want it to kill 4k footage right out of the box with no overclocking. I want all parts to be VERY reliable. I want this to last for years because I do a lot of 4k editing on a daily basis. Also don't give me a build with a 1000 series they're absolute trash when it comes to cuda support and the new architecture hasn't quite updated yet to some of my applications. Thing I want out of this build: kill 4k footage with no overclocking 32gb of ram a 480gb SSD that isn't cheap and shitty and will last for a while I CPU that works fantastic with after effects (quad core or if you can squeeze in a 6 core :D) a GPU that will allow me to play back color corrected 4k footage in premiere with ease and no overclocking EASY INSTALLATION. I'm not a pro builder and I don't want to be doing something crazy I want the instructions to be explicitly clear. and a WDD black for extra footage (just 1tb not 2 much) AND A MOBO THAT HAS GREAT REVIEWS AND WILL LAST FOR A WHILE AND PROBABLY NOT BREAK FIRST WEEK! BUDGET: $1550 Thanks!!
-
Hey so I just bought this PC the other day and some parts are going to show up throughout the next few days but I'm scared of regretting getting the X61. I read reviews of it leaking and damaging everything. Should I return it or does anyone have it? Is it a good cpu cooler? I'm worried I made a terrible investment http://pcpartpicker.com/list/2cgFsJ
-
Buying the parts to my 4k editing beast tomorrow. I'm not a gamer and this is gonna be strictly for editing. I'm a bit concerned with Asus's mobos cause they have not the best reviews. I want this to last for yearsssssss and be very reliable and unlikely to break in the 1st year. Current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/GRdxHN Please leave a suggestion or comment if I should pick another mobo or keep it!! I can't afford for it to break soon!! Also are the fans for the h440 good enough? Don't care if they're super silent and do they connect to PSU or mobo? -Thanks EDIT: Also getting this ram instead. Not that it matters, https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-2400MHz-PC4-19200-Systems/dp/B00OTJZNI2/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1473569319&sr=8-4&keywords=ddr4+corsair+32gb+ram .
