From the album: Testing
Cheeky upgrade for my system this week, additional 7970 vapor-X 6GB into my system. Time for some uber performance. -
From the album: nothing to see here
Changed the led color order from blue-yellow-red (cold, warm, hot) to red-yellow-blue (blue >75C which I never reached...) Might rewire 2x red wires into 6 wires so would display red for any temp or swap for white led, when I got time for that. For now, much better for black-red-white system to not have that blue led of the gpu most of the time. GPU plastic shroud off while drying, spray-painted red - not exactly airbrush quality, but will do :) (As you can see, it's red = cool, also GPU-Z says 47C right now, so all good - in case someone worries ;) ) Other things done: - Changed the stock (sh...) Corsair 140mm fans for Phanteks white, and added 3 in the front (just a few holes need to be drilled). - White led strips (2 top / 2 bottom, back and front each). - Demciflex Air 540 filter kit, so I actually keep the dust out. Corsair stock front filter does barely anything for fine dust. - Delidded 4790K (vice-only method, just needs vice, a bit a of Tesa Crepe (painter's tape), and some small towel around the vice in case the anything falls). - One handle broken off the plastic hdd tray ( :() - I actually broken all 4 off now, so it looks more symmetric lol... k© YES muahahhahaha

Will this graphics card still work? What do you think? Yes or no?? This is a card I got for free, I didn't do this to it... Also this card was found in a very damp wet basement. I'll plug it into my computer later and see what happens

So I got my girlfriend a Vapor-X R9 290 off of HWSwap. Seller claimed he got it from a guy who'd had it for a week after RMA, and I figured it'd be the last thing I'd need to do to her PC for a while. It worked great from what I could tell after install, I ran around in Witcher 3 and Borderlands 2 and maxed everything out, did fine with okay framerates at 1080p. A few days later she tried DotA and it kept crashing. I figured it was just DotA being DotA after the update but she's positive it's the GPU since that's the only hardware change. It also has trouble with Folding, where it routinely freezes the computer. The computer has crashed completely a couple times in Borderlands 2 since then. Occasionally, there is weird artifacting just on desktop where a square in the middle of the screen or around the mouse will have negative colors until you change what's being shown in that area (eg, click on the background). I've read about people having black-screens with this card, and tried some of the fixes they suggested, like downclocking the memory and clock in MSI afterburner and upping the power limit. It seems like this maybe helped? A little? But we still get issues, and it's hard to quantify whether or not it really helped and how much. From this point, as I understand it, my options are: * Try a bigger PSU? This one is within the rating, but the CPU and GPU are both relatively hungry, I guess? * Flash the VBIOS? With a potential of bricking it... * Try to get Sapphire to fix it, despite not being the original owner? If anyone has any suggestions or advice, I'd really appreciate it. System Specs: MB: Asus M5A99FX Pro R2.0 CPU: FX-8350 PSU: ARC-M650 (80+ Bronze) RAM: Ripjaws X 2x8gb Storage: 240gb Crucial (bx100 I think) + 3gb toshiba

An R9 290 Vapor-X from sapphire costs the same as an XFX R9 290X, and an XFX R9 290 is $50 cheaper than a Vapor-X version. What are the benefits of having a Vapor-X card? The only reason why i'm planning to get a Vapor-X card is because of the color scheme.

As i read in the internet all r9 280x cards support mantle. As i read in the sapphire website the specific model sapphire r9 280x vapor-x model does not have the mantle sector (sector: i mean the place where the site explains the specific technology the card has, for example it has sectors for the cooling systems etc.) in the overview tab (http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1... ) although it does have sectors for directx12 and opengl4.3. I tried to see the overview tab of other sapphire cards like the r9 280x vapor-x tri-x model and it does have a mantle sector. So, does the sapphire r9 280x vapor-x (the vapor-x model and not the vapor-x tri-x) support mantle? And generally is the mantle so important for the amd cards, i mean should i buy this gpu even if it doesn't support mantle?

so i will sell my 280x because its a little underkill for gaming at 2560*1080 and i want to buy a sapphire 290 vapor-x at the moment. the problem is that i have three displays connected at the moment. one over dp, one over dual link dvi-d and one over dvi-i and then vga. for some reason the only 290 that has dvi-i is the gigabyte. so i can only connect my vga monitor to it with an expensive hdmi/vga connector box which makes the whole thing as expensive as a gigabyte 970 which has dvi-i. but i want the sapphire card because it looks damn good (i have a blue motherboard and blue ram). so i thought i perhaps could get some old nvidia drivers and use my old 550ti as vga display output while using my amd card for everything else. my questions are: is this even possible? can i somehow use the cpu vga output of my motherboard? do you have other solutions to this problem? and before you say it. yes for me its really worth the effort because i love this vga monitor thanks for your help

I have a Sapphire Vapor-X 5870 OC 1GB Stock Core: 875mhz Stock Memory: 1250mhz Idle temps 36'C Load temps: 68'C Can i simply max out the sliders so its Core: +25mhz = 900mhz Memory: + 50mhz = 1300Mhz Its only a 25 and 50 mhz increase on both, so it feels safe.... I know the alternative is to properly overclock with voltages but ive never done that before and dont really feel comfortable doing that now But even more importantly i dont want to brick my card Im okay with leaving the card how it is But i'm curious to know if this is a good idea or bad

So I am wanting to watercool my entire system including a second GPU in Crossfire. Here is my plan so far: 1.Buy a Club 3D Royal Ace 290 and the EK full cover waterblock that fits it. 2. Buy 1 dual 120mm rad and 1 dual 140mm rad to add onto my Swifttech H220X that currently watercools my CPU 3. Outfit all 3 rads with Noctua NF-F12 fans for super quiet performance. Here is the catch, I currently have the 290 Vapor-X OC edition and nobody makes a full cover waterblock that fits it. This leaves me with using a universal waterblock but then having to use alternate cooling solutions for my VRMs. Is the plate on the back of the Sapphire enough for this or do I need to also get some other VRM cooling solutions? I want to do all of this watercooling partially for the challenge and for overclocking and I'm wondering if anyone has any idea of what type of monitor resolution I should be shooting for when I go to buy all of this (monitor included). Side note: I currently have a i5 4690k running at 4.7 GHz however I'm concerned about it only having 16 PCI-e lanes, is this not an issue or should I be looking to get a Intel i5/i7 X series processor to accommodate the extra video cards? Thanks for any advice in advance!

So I have wanted the Sapphire r9 290x Vapor-X for awhile now. The Vapor-X card matches my system, has great cooling, and has a very nice looking back-plate. Now that the new 980 from Nvidia has come out, I am thinking about that as well. I honestly have no Idea which one that I will get. I have a few questions: 1- What is the performance difference between these two cards? 2- How good is the cooling on the 980? 3- how much of a performance increase will I get from each of these cards? I am currently running a PNY 650. Thanks for your comments!

Hey guys, Not sure if this has already been posted but I found this on Sapphire's website. On the 4th of April, Sapphire posted this in the press release section. Here's the product page with some pictures and stuff. What do you guys think? I think this looks f**kin awesome! Have some pics. (That logo lights up in blue, yellow and red depending on the temperature)

Hey guys I'm looking for some advice regarding my future upgrade when it becomes available. I'm planning to upgrade my Sapphire HD 6950 2 GB GPU to crossfire Sapphire R9 290 Vapor X editions since I'm playing games on a 5920*1080 resolution. At the moment I'm using the Antec Current Gamer 620W which isn't enough for dual cards. So I'm looking into the Corsair AX 860i with a 80+ platinum certification and the useful Corsair Link Software which I'm already using for my H80i CPU cooler. But some time ago I read on the official Sapphire page that one Vapor X card requires a 750W PSU and dual 8 pin PCIe connectors. I'm aware that the 750W counts as a full build PSU requirement and is applicable to lower quality PSU's but I don't know which recommendation they would make for dual cards with a 80+ certified PSU. I'm worried the PSU wouldn't quite get there considering the upgrade and the rest of my system. I already did a calculation on the coolermaster site, which was recommended in a Tech Quicky video, and it said around 740W but with normal 290's and I don't know how much more power the Vapor X's would draw. Can someone give me advice whether the Corsair 860W will be enough or I should look into a 1000W PSU? Thnx Rest of the system Intel i7 2600K (now stock setting, but looking forward to overclock it in the future to at least 4.5 GHz) Corsair H80i cooler (don't know how much power the pump and stock fans draw) Asus P8Z68V-Pro (Probably standard power usage like any other MB as I've not changed anything in BIOS) 2 sticks DDR3 RAM 1600 MHZ 1.65V 5 normal SATA 7200 RPM HDD's 1 Flash SSD (Samsung 840 Pro) 2 LED 200 mm case fans which use molex adapter connectors 1 Blu-ray reader drive No other PCI or PCIe cards.

Hi I had a question. Are they going to make an r9 290 version of the r9 280x vapor-x tri-x? link to r9 280x vapor-x tri-x :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202095

I recently bought a Sapphire Vapor-X HD7970 3GB at a super cheap price ($339) and when it came in the mail I was surprised to see that it had 2 8-pin PCIe and not the 1 6-pin and 1 8-pin that I've seen in all the reviews. Turns out this is a more updated version with a beefier power delivery. I'm putting together a new build and I had already bought my PSU before hand. It's a Seasonic M12II 620w Bronze semi modular power supply. The only problem is that power supply only comes with a single 6-pin cable and another 6+2 PCIe cable. The 7970 came with 2 double molex to 8-pin adaptors. Is it safe to use the 6+2 PCIe included with the power supply and use one of the double molex to 8-pin adaptors? From what I understand my options are to either just ignore the second 8-pin requirement and stick a 6-pin in there or use a combo of 1 6+2 PCIe and 1 molex adaptor. I am planning to overclock this card to it's maximum without raising the voltages. Any input will be of help. If at all possible I would like to keep this current PSU and not opt to get a new one. System Specs for this build: i5-4670k with moderate-moderately high overclock (Aiming for 4.2-4.4ish) (I know the PSU is not Haswell compatible but I will be disabling C6/C7) Corsair H100i Asus z87i-Deluxe mITX G.Skill Ripjaw X 8GB 1866 Sapphire Vapor-X 7970 3GB overclocked to maximum at stock voltages Seasonic M12II 620w Bronze

Hi, I followed this tutorial (its french . so use google translat ^^) : http://www.overclocking-pc.fr/forums/showthread.php?24852-Modifier-ses-fr%E9quences-avec-RBE-et-flasher-sa-ATI-sous-windows-%28HD-3xxx-4xxx-5xxx-6xxx%29 and this one : http://www.overclocking-pc.fr/forums/showthread.php?19835-D%E9bloquer-les-fr%E9quences-sur-HD57xx-et-HD58XX so I flashed my CG small problem. the flash is active in the BIOS of the CG but not in practice (under windows / 3D Games / stress tests) here are some pictures: BRE : GPU-Z CG idel : GPU-Z load (stress with furmark) : you can see in this imag that GPU/Mem frequencies and vcore are still the base ones = flash is not active ! did I miss something in my flash? thank you !

So for my build I decided to go with a 280x, and then in the future possibly go crossfire with them. After watching an awful lot of videos, and Linus' 280x showdown, the overall trend is they offer the same performance, but with different brands come different coolers and other features. (Like dual BIOS, Sound levels, etc) I decided to either go with the XFX 280x, or the Sapphire Vapor-X, they are both priced within £10 of each other and they offer the same performance, but it basically comes down to the appearance, sound, cooler, and a few other things. The thing is, I've been trying to look for a crossfire build with the vapor-x to see what it would look like, just for curiosity and future reference, but the thing is..I can't find any. Not a single one. Countless Google searches just throw me to the info page of the vapor-x, and anybody who has it in crossfire has either a 290 or 'HDxxx'. I've heard a fair people say the Vapor-x is the best 280x, so if I do go for it I want to be able to go crossfire, if not I'ed have to settle for an XFX. Is there some sort of issue with it? Is the vapor-x too big and ends up taking like 6 of the typical 7 slots in crossfire, so people just dont go for it, or is it just coincidence? On a side note, what do you you guys think about crossfire 280X's. Is it worth it? I know a 280x can handle stuff pretty well for now, but if the future it might have to happen. Look at that! I think it would look much better in crossfire over the XFX, 1. because of the logo, 2.Because of that wonderful backplate. Note: This isn't about me picking it because it looks better & because i want it in crossfire because it'll look nice, its about knowing that if i do go crossfire with a 280x should i go vapor-x or another card. Thanks for any replies, I know this question is probably moronic, but hey, I just want to know.

Update in last post : OC results Hey, So yeah, I just received my second Sapphire vapor-X 7970 that I ordered off ebay. I'm ready for crossfire ! Except it's an OC with boost edition. I feel stupid but looking back at the listing, I understand why I thought it was a vapor-x (see for yourself : http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAPPHIRE-Radeon-HD-7970-3GB-Ready-CrossFireX-Support-Video-Card-OC-with-Boost-/300990379141?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=OMYRw7YO1HuOV6QIHIMBF8pXL2c%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc) I contacted buyer but no response yet. I now see that it's not covered by ebay's buyer protection program (whatever that is) and that I can return it for refund but at my cost of shipping. So what now ? I mean I could : 1 - Still run crossfire off of Vapor-X + OC with boost but I won't reach the same clocks. 2- Return it for a refund and lose shipping cost. 3- Try to sell it back and buy a Vapor-X but possibly lose money in the process cause of selling/buying price, ebay tax, ... 4- Ask seller for a discount. 5- Sell both and buy a R9 290x 6-??? 7- Profit ? Opinions ?

i am pretty sure that my next card will be a Sapphire R9  but i am not sure what is the difference between the three types of coolers  (and all three are truly "awesome" by the way)

Hey guys, EK announced that a 290x vapor-x waterblock is coming and im wondering if it will fit to the r9 290 vapor-x

Hey, I made a similar thread a while ago saying that Sapphire wasn't a viable answer because of cost, but I found on newegg that the 290 cards are cheaper there. So now, reccommend which is the best! Again sorry for the dumb restriction. Thanks. Which is the best R9 290?

Hello, I want to get a R9 290 or R9 290X I've heard very good things about the Trix-X but I've never even heard about the Vapor-X I've found. It's about 40€ extra, is it worth it ? I'm interested for the color, higher frequency and better cooling so hopefuly a quieter machine. What can you say about this card ? Jack

Hi I was wondering if an r9 290 with any of those coolers will allow an Asus PCE-AC68 (or any other card which takes up the full slot) to be installed above it? My slot configuration is as follows Pci-e x 1: Asus PCE-AC68 Pci-e x16: Graphics card Pci-e x 1: Blocked by graphics card Pci-e x 1: I can move the Asus PCE-AC68 here but that would mean it covers a about 1/3 of the graphic card airflow. the rest of my mb has other expansion cards in it. Vapor-X: PCS+: Direct CU2: (could not find a picture from the same angle ) After a week of research I've decided to go with the vapor-x card but the other cards above also seem to have similarly sized back plates which would face the same problem I described. Can we please stay on topic instead of suggesting alternative cards/brands
