My partner has to move his pc tower to another room whenever he wants to use his Valve Index VR. We have tried cable extenders, docking stations, couplers, and kvm - nothing has work. It seems like the dp on his 3 way cable just will not work if its not plugged directly into the pc. We have seen videos of other people who were able to get it to work. We need some help. Its about 10m/30ft distance between the pc and the VR headset.

Specs: - Intel i7-10700k -Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 -16GB DDR4 3200 RAM -Windows 10 64x Home -Valve Index (I don't know the motherboard or PSU since it's an HP Omen prebuilt) Getting extremely nauseating freeze frames/stutters when playing certain games with my Index, especially Onward but specifically multiplayer modes, and I have absolutely no idea what could be causing it. Is there a way I can record/monitor my resource usage while in VR to see if it's a resource issue? I've got the latest Nvidia drivers and BIOS, so I don't think that'd be the issue. I don't think it can be the headset itself due to the fact a week ago it ran completely fine on a different rig (RTX 2070 Super, Intel i7-9700k, 16 GB DDR4 3600 RAM, etc) and never dropped below 90 fps. Now, even occasionally in SteamVR, I get stutters simply from looking up/down and side to side. Any ideas on what the issue could be or what I could do to troubleshoot?

Hello everyone, I'm new to the whole VR scene and I first got into it this week as my friend lent me his Quest 2 and I hooked it to my PC via the link cable and I had the best week of my life. now I want to buy my own peice of VR headset and I'm wondering, should I get the Reverb G2 as it just got uopdated. or should I get the Vive Cosmos Elite since it has the base stations bundled and I can buy trackers later on for full body tracking. I'm extremely picky when it comes to tracking, and visual quality as well as upgradeability, I've even thought about buying the reverb g2 and getting the knuckles and base stations later on, which yes it will be expensive but it will be the best combonation of quality and tracking. I'd like to let you know that I'm an enthusiast which will lead to you asking me why don't I get the valve index, well, its current price point and unavailability in my country leads me to ditch it as a whole option, I even can get a Pimax with the Knuckle and base stations for the same Price. so I really would appreciate some help in this regard.

I recently bought a new PC and it works great in all fields besides the exact one I bought it for, that being VR. Depending on the USB's I use, I experienced grey screen 'tracking' issues pretty much constantly (was never able to get through even a single song in Beat Saber without it happening multiple times). and it get's worse when using the green usb slots. The headset worked perfectly fine on my last pc, but not on this one, dispite this being an upgrade. After going through a long, arduous troubleshooting process, I got an RMA from Valve and was sent a new HMD. A quick list of the things I tried (which didn't improve the symptoms at all) is below: Making sure system was completely up to date Disabling Windows Defender Firewall Disabling USB power management (through Steam Developer Options and manually through Windows Control Panel) Repositioning base stations (they were temporarily below head level during setup, and then were mounted to the wall about 8 feet from the floor in my apartment which has a standard height ceiling). Switching the locations of each base station Recalibrating the room Switching to every available USB port Running in safe mode Checking over all connections on trident, breakaway, HMD Covering all reflective surfaces in the area (TVs, counters, windows, picture frames, any items with metallic/glossy surfaces, whiteboards, etc.) Turning off all electronic devices (wireless router, modem, additional computers, cell phones, tablets, video game consoles, microwave, all devices that use bluetooth such as headphones) Removing batteries from all remotes Turning off all lights The new headset has the exact same issues. I have no idea what to do and valve's support is useless, their suggestions are about as good as "turn it off and on again" so I'm desperately searching for SOMETHING SOMEWHERE that SOMEONE can tell me, please. I saw people with similar problems and they used this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B6ZCNGM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to fix it but I don't see a slot on my mother board where that will fit so I have no idea what to do. So i got my index today and after mounting all the base stations and half an hour of updating the firmware for everything i noticed that only the left eye is displaying something so i restarted the headset, when steam vr booted up i saw an image on both eyes but after 2-3 seconds the right eye stopped displaying anything again, the led's are green and i couldnt find any errors in the debug logs of steam vr. Googling around a bit and i soon found the most likely suspect, the usb ports, so i tried every single usb port from 2.0 to 3.1 gen2 but all had the same problem so i reset my bios settings incase it was my oc that caused all this, nothing same problem. The headset firmware has also been reflashed without success and when looking into this issue further i found none having this problem on only one eye, having both display nothing seems relatively common. Has anyone here experienced this issue? I still have hope its not the headsets fault so i ordered a pcie usb expansion and will see if that fixes it in the meantime. My specs are as followed: Windows 10 20H2 Ryzen 5 3600 X470 Gaming Pro Carbon 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix @ 3800MHz AMD RX 6700 XT Everything is updated (Bios, Drivers...)

I use my PC every day for things like PCVR and I'm trying to improve the cooling of my hardware so it doesn't damage my components long term. I'm thinking about getting a (closed) water cooling loop for my CPU instead of a fan. My specs are: - Ryzen 7 3700x - RTX 2070 super (got it a year before 30 launch) - MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC - Corsair Vengeance LPX 2*8GB - Corsair RM750x (2018) - VR (headset): Valve Index w/ 3*Trackers and Tactsuit x40 In a NZXT S340 Black/Red case. Can someone recommend me a cooling solution (and explain why they recommend it)? Budget is not really an issue although I prefer to spend something in the range of 50-130 (for cooling which will run for a solid 5 years).

Since around 2 weeks from now i have started to experience Some really bad audio distortion/crackling whenever i start up steamVR and have sound play though my Valve Index Headset. Whenever this happens i also notice that the windows audio device graph isolation prosses in Task Manager suddenly starts using more and more CPU, up to over 35% in some cases (it is normally at around 0.1-0.5%) What i have tried Swapping around what USB ports the VR Headset is connected to Re installing SteamVR Re installing audio drivers Re installing graphics card drivers Re installing windows (not a clean re install, kept the programs/files/documents) Uppdating to the latest version of BIOS avalible (Version 3003) Tried windows troubleshooting Contacting Steam Support (no answer yet from time of writing this) Restarting the computer several times Disabling windows audio enhancements where possible Un checking "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" So far none of these suggested fixes have worked. Specs CPU (AMD Ryzen 3 5900X) GPU (Asus GeForce RTX 2070 Super ROG Strix) RAM (G.Skill 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL16 Trident) PSU (ASUS ROG Thor 1200W) Motherboard (ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO X570) Boot ssd (Toshiba-TR150) NVMe drive (Seagate FireCuda 510 SSD) OS (Windows 10 Home) I have attached some screenshots that i hope is able to add some relevancy to what I'm talking about.

Is there any solution to VR issues on nvidia 3000 series? Nvidia statement is no help at all... Manuel@NVIDIA Small update everyone. Our team is still root causing the issue. Unfortunately we have not yet determined which change introduced this issue so unfortunately our next driver scheduled for later this month will not have a fix for this. If there any other updates, I will make sure to share it with everyone here.

Hello I've been trying to research this topic online for the past month with no real solution, I'm here as a last ditch effort to see if I can get any new suggestions. While in VR with my valve index I get these random pink spikes, mostly when turning my head. They seem to come randomly and I have no issues when I'm using the system without VR. I have a 5800X3D with a RTX 4090 on windows 10, a 1600w PSU and the latest Bios updated. I'm basically up to date with every software and driver possible on my system. I don't remember having these issues on my old 2080ti. When I switched GPU's I did use DDU to do a clean install of the new drivers. Does anyone have any idea what this could be and how to solve it? I have HAGS disabled. I have tried disabling every RGB and monitoring software. With nothing running in the background it still continues to lag spike randomly. I'm out of ideas, Thanks for your help.

Hello everyone! i asked this over merch messages in the wan show and they recommended asking it here so here it goes! Im looking to join the PCVR community, i have had experiences with VR before and i like better tracking of stations. I have a balls to the wall PC from 2-3 years ago with a binned 9900K, overclocked 2080 and i dont mind a cable dangling off of me. ive been hesitating a lot on buying the index and i was going to order one in the next few days, but someone told me that i should wait for pancake lenses and that they would be a great improvement over current systems. they also mentioned that in a few months quest 3 is coming out (which is out of question for me) but with it there might be some new competition as the VR industry tends to upgrade everything every 3 years or so. so im putting it to a poll, should i get and index or should I wait?

Wondering what the best for full body tracking. My gpu is the gigabyte eagle rx 6700 xt and I would be playing Vr chat and racing games through steam vr. If you know any better headsets feel free to let me know. Thanks!

Long story short, I want to be able to have as many different desktops in virtual space as possible, and was surprised back when I bought the Vive years ago that this was limited to actual ports on the motherboard and or connected GPUs. I picked up an Index and am back to the same quandary. Or are there other solutions? I looked into headless hdmi plugs years ago but had hoped there was a better solution since the Vive years. Any help in the right direction. Was inspired by the LTT video of the mobo with the ridiculous number of USB ports for what was clearly an industrial solution. ‘’Thanks in advance, ‘’Kevin

So my friend is having some issues while playing VR, while the Index is on and running there is artifacting that randomly shows up on either monitor and lots of stuttering in games (this doesn't happen while playing games not in VR). I know a 1070 isn't very powerful especially for the index but even a game like beat saber has awful stuttering issues (and the performance counter this shows frametimes never even get close to the 8.3ms of the 120Hz, they sit way above this, somewhere in the 15ms range.) This combined with the stuttering makes it almost unplayable. Tried re-installing graphics and Index/SteamVR drivers and the Index works flawlessly on my laptop (2070+9750h) even in 144Hz mode.) Any other ideas?

So I recently bought a Valve Index and then realized that it needs display port 1.2 and my laptop only has HDMI 2.0 to my GPU and thunderbolt to my CPU (integrated 630 graphics). So I was wondering if anyone knew if I could make it work since it seems like HDMI 2.0 can handle the bandwidth of DP I would just need a active adapter to convert the signal? I was also thinking would it be possible to have my GPU compute the physics and all that and just have my thunderbolt output the video? I think I saw that in a LTT video once.

Hello there. I recently bought a Valve Index, and would like to fully use its potential. I build my current gaming PC a couple of years back with a very limited budget, so I am afraid it has to be a full upgrade, but I wanted to hear some opinions first. My requirement for the new one would be to run Alyx in the Indexes native resolution at the 120 hertz it is capable of, ideally at a good graphic setting. I tried to do some research at what exactly would be needed to achieve this, but there is no explicit answer (it is a pretty specific question after all), so I'm basically just hunting for recommendations. My current PC has a an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (Six-Core Processor 3,2Ghz), an overclocked GTX 1070, MSI b350m pro vdh as a mainboard and 16gb RAM. So it just meets the minimum requirement, which is nice. It also means I can wait a couple of months to do this upgrade if that makes sense. My Budget for the upgrade would be about 2000€, give or take. The country is Germany. The Index will probably be the most demanding part of my workload, otherwise I am happy with gaming in 1080p, and I will run two monitors, which shouldn't be an issue either. I am also happy with my mouse, keyboard, the monitor will be good enough or I will buy another one later, this is not the focus right now. The PSU should also be good enough, but I can recheck this later. I do need/want a new case, so if you happen to have a recommendation for that as well, I would take it. If you have read this far, thank you for your attention. ~Poolitzer

Hey! I currently have the new Valve Index, Unfortunately my room is very small so I cannot get the full experience. I am currently looking at purchasing a 15 metre Display Port cable + Display port extension (to get the male to female connections). So i can get a wired connection from my room with my pc to my living room that has plenty of space. Okay down to my questions. Will there be any downsides in general to this method? Will there be any extra Input delay? With a 15 metre and display port extension will I still be able to run the 144hz screens? Do you know of any other way I use my VR headset in a different room without moving my pc? Would it increase the motion sickness at all? If you guys have any experience with this or have more knowledge than I do it would be very much appreciated! Thanks Saba

I'm planning on buying the Index VR. Are there any reasons that I am not thinking of to buy or to not buy it? I was about to buy it but decided to wait in case there were some important factors that I'm not thinking of.

This is my PC now:i7 4790 non k cooled with a hyper 212 evoEVGA GTX 1070 SC16GB DDR3I have about 2020 Euros and I have 2 options. Either to buy the Valve index and an RTX 2080 (ti if that's worth the money). Or buy a PC with the i7 9700k, rtx 2080 etc. And then wait to buy the index or another headset in the future. I really wanna try VR but I don't know if the i7 4790 non k with the RTX 2080 (ti) will be enough or if there will be a huge bottleneck. Any ideas?

Greetings!I'm looking into upgrading my VR Rig, which will be used to play VR games(duh) and stream some of them. I don't exactly plan to overclock and I'd like to be able to pump the Supersampling in VR games up to anywhere between 1.5x and 2.0x. (but as they say, the more the merrier)I live in Portugal (Europe) for pricing reference. My current specs are as follow:CPU: Intel i5-6500 GPU: MSI GTX 1060 3GB ARMOR RAM: HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-2400MHz 14CAS PSU: SeaSonic S12II 80+ Bronze 430W MOBO: Z170A Gaming Pro CarbonCASE: Nox Hummer MC Zero EditionHMD: Oculus RiftMy planned specs are as follow:CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700X or higher GPU: RTX 2080 or RTX 2080Ti (Probably EVGA 'cause of their customer support but I'm open to suggestions) RAM: G.Skill Trident Z/Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4-3200MHz 14CAS (Accepting other suggestions)PSU: EVGA Supernova 1000 G3 1000W 80+ Gold MOBO: Still haven't done researchCASE: Nox Hummer MC Zero EditionHMD: Valve IndexI've been told the 2080Ti is too overpriced and it's honestly not a pretty price to look at. I'd like to stay future-proof and get the most performance I can get from VR, especially with increased Supersampling. Supersampling benchmarks on RTX cards seem to be scarce however, it's hard to really know if there would be a huge difference between the 2080 and the 2080Ti in that regard, but considering I'd also have to upgrade my CPU, Motherboard and PSU, the 2080 might be more worth it going for because of its reduced price. What do you think however, do you have any experience or information on this type of comparison regarding Supersampling and these two cards? How should I choose the motherboard? Besides the basics, I'll need at least a free PCI-e slot for my Inateck USB 3.0 Expansion Card, hopefully the GPU wouldn't block it. I've heard VRMs are an important thing to look at, what are these exactly? Will there be much difference between different motherboards that'll support the new Ryzen CPUs or are they going to be minimal? Finally, ever since I got my i5-6500, I've always used its stock cooler. I don't plan on overclocking so will the Ryzen's stock cooler be enough? I would otherwise get the Noctua NH-D15 everyone seems to worship ahah But I'd rather save that money if I can get by with just the stock cooler.I think that's about every question I have, will add more as they come to mind. Let me also know what you think of my planned build.Thank you!

So I have wanted to try out VR for a long time now and with the release of Boneworks and upcoming Half-life I figured it might be time to buy my own set. My thoughts dwell the most on the Valve Index since it would probably last longer in quality gameplay, but it is just really expensive. I dont know if especially the Knuckles, which is some really awesome tech, are worth the cost. But on the other side, the Oculus rift S looks is really affordable but compromises on a lot of things that I would assume to be a nessesity for a smooth experience. However I dont know if these compromisses would be noticable to me since this is pretty much the first time I would play in VR. Do you guys have any good suggentions for a first time buy?

Hello! I put this into off-topic because I believe it is a very niche problem... So basically, I live in Brazil and have come to the USA for about a mouth and I was looking to get a Valve Index Headset (assuming it comes back to stock) while here, something that is not available in my country and even if it was the taxes would make it at least 2k (Brazil be like that...), but I have been met with a problem... Steam, unlike amazon and a bunch of other online stores, does not accept billing addresses outside the region that the account is located (I made an USA account), also the valve index isnt in any retail store and all re-sellers charge up by at least 50%, so if I cant bring myself to buying a mere 80hz Rift S I am in a pickle... (Not necessarily dissing on the Rift S, but I have someone close to me that I would like for them to experience VR but I am pretty sure she would get motion sickness as she is very pron to it) So, does anyone have a solution? either a re-seller site you know for the valve index that doesnt mark up the price that much, or like a clever way to proxy the payment like getting a prepaid credit card while here (assuming that is possible considering I am not american), or a way to make an american paypal with a friends address (or honestly a random one, I dont care) and then add cash into it via bitcoin or via paypal transfer between international paypal... Anything, I just want the index (Then again, maybe all of this is pointless if the index doesnt come back on stock before I leave). The worst is that if I had this opportunity last year before Steam Wallet was pulled this hole problem could be solved by buying 10 100$ gift cards Anyway, if you read this and dont have a clue, I at least thank you for experiencing my frustration. ?? PS: I know my LTT location says Uk, I use to live there 1.5 years ago

So, I've got the MSI GE75 8SG laptop, with i7-8750H, RTX 2080, 16GB RAM. Is this enough to run most Valve Index games reasonably well (90-120fps)?
-
Hello to all master pc builders, This is my first post on here and will try to explain everything as good as possible. For a while now I'm looking to buy a gaming PC and with the new Valve Index coming out, I'm going to buy that too. My current setup is an old HP laptop that can run GTA V but not in great quality. As for a screen I’m using LG 27UK650 and I’m currently not looking into replacing it. I'm a casual gamer and like to play games like GTA V l, Red Dead 2, Tomb Raider, Sea of Thieves,... So not really an FPS/Esport guy. Other stuff you should know, I'm situated in Belgium (euro) and mostly use Amazon from Germany. I’m willing to spend a max of €2.000 on the new PC. In total, I would like to spend no more than €3.000 including the Valve Index. I’m probably going to buy the PC on Black Friday to hopefully get some sales on it. I don’t really know anything about PC building. I can build it myself (also never did it) but I prefer buying it from Gaming PC building sites (https://www.ibuypower.com/ or https://www.originpc.com/). If you know a good site that does this good and at a good price feel free to recommend sites. I also don’t mind buying a prebuilt PC so if there are any please suggest them. I saw this video of Linus and thought this was a good PC: https://youtu.be/75L8Hrb49A4?t=833 Can you help me configure one? Is an RTX 2080 Super needed or isn’t there a lot of difference with the RTX 2070 Super? Thanks in advance!
