I need help with quite a specific issue... I have a steamdeck (love it) and a nextdock (kind of like it). My idea when buying the nextdock was to use it to play with my steamdeck and do some work on my phone. My issue is that when I plug my steamdeck into the Nextdock it won't charge fast enough so it will slowly discharge... Ideally I would connect 2 cables to my steamdeck with some type of splitter, one USB c for charge and one USB c for the nextdock. I've tried using a USB c Hub but it wouldn't pass video to the nextdock. Connecting a USB charger to the hub and a HDMI to the nextdock will give me image but won't allow me to use the keyboard and mouse... so it's kind of pointless... Anyway, if anyone knows a way to solve it :)or has any questions, let me know

Hello everybody, I am now thing for a long time how to update my setup. My situation: Work Laptop: Lenovo T14 (Thunderbold 3 or 4) Desktop PC: GTX 970; I7 4770 Dual Monitor Setup (One is the Dell U2520D so I have already kind of a USB c Hub including daisy chaining another monitor) What I want to do: Update my desktop to either a Laptop or a more compact desktop like the dell Optiplex or something Get another monitor for triple monitor setup (likely two 1080 and one 4k) get a USB-C / Thunderbolt Hub that will support triple displays Switch between both Laptops by just switching one cable Current Issues I dont want to use DisplayLink as I dont want another software running in the background and I am not even sure if I have permission to install that on my work laptop As far as I understand Thunderbolt only supports dual monitors. (found a comment under the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 dock). I would have expected triple monitors not beeing an issue when running at 1080p. Dont really get that? There are some Docks out there that claim to support triple monitors anyways (e.g. This one) and dont seem to use display link as well. Is that maybe due to DisplayportAlt running independent of Thunderbolt? What would happen if I would connect to a usbc Port withour Thunderbolt but with e.g. USB 3.2 2x2. Would Thunderbolt docks still work? Is the Dual display limitation still the same? So you can see I am quite confused. Up to now I thought I was quite fast at picking up these topics. But the whole Thunderbolt, USB and display port situation seems just to be a mess atm. So thank you for any help. I also happy for some dock/hub recommendations PS: If anybody knows a USB-C / Thunderbolt switch, I am also thankful for recommendations. Seems also quite a small market...

Sorry is this is the wrong place to post. I'm looking for a USB-C hub that can do USB-C video out. In total, I need: 1 x USB-C power in. 2 x UBS-C power/video/data in/out. 2 x USB-A Not looking to break the bank, but any option would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: I'm looking to run USB-C power (100W) to a hub/dock, the hub/dock to my ROG Ally, and then a USB-C cable from my Ally to the DP in on my Lenovo Tab Extreme. I know, I'm an idiot, lol.

It seems to me that we've entered another round of "keep trying another cable till you find one that works" with the state of USB-C and thunderbolt. I have cables that look and feel like they are quality but various devices don't work. And then other cables that seem a bit flimsy but seem to work fine. Some that I think might be "brand name" and others that have no recognizable markings. Some cables seem to work one direction but, flip the connector over and they don't. And then there are all the questions about 2.0 vs 3.0 vs 2x2 vs thunderbolt etc. Are there any brands that we know we can trust? How about brands or models that are reasonably priced and work?

Highlights: 1) Apple Unveils USB-C iPhone(s) with a spin on the benefits of "Made For iPhone" Cables 2) Apple fans become generally upset over having to replace all of their lightning cables 3) Android users talk for months about how long Android phones have had USB-C, and how Apple is late to the game, doesn't innovate, etc. 4) General spec bump for rest of product stack (iPad, Mac, Watch, etc.) Wildcard: Apple launches a "portless" iPhone model. I don't have much to go on, but would be a very apple move in response to the EU order, which requires devices with WIRED charging to use USB-C Context: Former Android, now iPhone User.

I have been searching high and low for some kind of solution to my problem, but am a bit out of my element, so now I turn to the community for help... I need a 2+ PC KVM that supports PC1 being display port input and PC2 being Thunderbolt input as the only source of video, audio, etc. My desktop is a no brainer, but my work laptop has only USB Type C all around it that are used for charging, peripherals, etc. and all of this is connecting to a 165hz 1440p monitor. Is there such a KVM that can support a configuration something like this, or is there another creative solution I can do to solve my issue? Below is a super technical and very life-like diagram of what is in my mind-brain that I am looking for.

Hello LTT Forum! I hope you're all doing great! Recently I picked up a USB-C dongle from Anker (this one in particular) to hook up my laptop (Dell XPS 13 9310) to my TV. I have a nice media-cabinet setup with HDMI cables running through the walls, into the basement, under the floors, then back into the adjacent wall where my media cabinet is, allowing us to effectively have zero cable clutter under our TV and mount our TV directly on top of the fireplace. We made this setup almost 10 years ago so most of the details are a blur, but I'll try to remember as much as I can. I'm not sure of the generation of HDMI cables we have in the wall, but what I do know is that they are ~10 meters (~30ft) long, give-or-take. If I recall correctly, they were acquired from Monoprice. When I tried to hook up my laptop for the first time, everything on the computer seemed fine (Screen went black to adjust resolution to 1080p, Windows 11 did its little dance with the screen, and the computer seemed to detect the TV both in Settings and in Device Manager), but the TV insisted that there was No Signal. I found this odd, as I had my Chromecast hooked up to the same HDMI cable (with a coupler) moments prior and it was working flawlessly. In an attempt to troubleshoot this, I tried to power the hub with the PD passthrough - Maybe it needed more power to transmit along the long cable? Unfortunately this wasn't the case. Fearing the worst (I've been sent a defective dongle), I tried to hook up my laptop to my HDMI monitor - Which worked fine. Going back to the TV, I used a different (shorter) cable and plugged it in directly into the TV - bypassing the media cabinet entirely. To my surprise, this also worked. The only thing I changed was the HDMI cable used. This leads me to believe the antiquated HDMI cables of yester-year are somehow messing with the signal from my laptop and are the cause of my problem. Before spending time and money to get a newer HDMI cable and test it out that way, I figured I'd post here and see if anyone had any insight as to what else might be going wrong. What's odd is that none of my other appliances have any issue with the HDMI cables - Blu-ray player, Fibe TV receiver, heck! Even my Wii works fine! I do recall having a similar issue with my Father's old laptop, where it also didn't seem to like the HDMI cables (Didn't like to work through the wall-run HDMI cables, but worked perfectly fine with a manually-run cable) - despite my Mother's laptop having no such issues (both laptops having built-in HDMI ports) Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated, Thanks in Advance!

I know for a fact that macbooks around/before 2016 might have had a usb short circuit protection because I've seen these images online- and heard stories where people have connected Faulty/shorted USB-A cables to their macbooks which resulted in one of 3 things- 1.) USB port getting temporarily disabled until the cable is removed 2.) Macbook temporarily shutting down until battery cable is removed and re-attached 3.) Macbook logic board burning I would like to know if the above protection features still hold true for usb c macbooks. I specifically have a macbook pro 13 inch 2020. I would like to know what could happen if someone accidentally attaches a shorted usb c charging cable where the pins of the USB c interface are shorted with each other.....(can actually happen because they're only 0.5mm apart) into the modern (post 2017) macbooks. -Will the charging port disable until cable is removed? -Will the macbook disable until battery is removed and reconnected? -Will the logic board say bye to its owner? I would also like to know what additional protection macbooks have against similar possibilities, for eg. Short circuit is basically over current flow, what protection do macbooks have against, say.....over voltage, what if someone applies a voltage higher than normal at the USB c charging port. I'm asking all this stuff because not a lot of information is available about this in the public domain...so only people who tinker with Macs on a daily basis would be able to answer my questions. Thanks for helping me out and curing my curiosity!

I have the problem of overthinking and anxiety. I dropped my MacBook Pro type c cable. I didn't see it touch the ground but heard the sound of it touching the ground. I don't know if it was the plastic end that touched it or the exposed metal charging point. I'm scared it was the latter and now the pins could be damaged and it might get shorted and destroy my MacBook during charging. Drop was from around 5ft height. What are the chances that the pins are now damaged and will cause a short circuit and destroy my MacBook in the future. It still charges the Mac. It is a 2m C to C cable Thanks for giving me your valuable time

Hi everyone, I recently bought a Sennheiser headset and a portable amplifier, I use a 3.5 cable to connect the headset to the amplifier, and then a USB-C cable to connect it to my phone. The short USB-C cable that was included with the amplifier became loose after a couple of days, and since then I have been on the hunt for a cable that is capable of transferring digital audio, durable and short (no more than 4-5 inches). I found one cable on amazon that is durable and short, but unfortunately, it was an analog cable, which makes it useless with my Pixel 7 pro, I asked Chat-GPT for suggestions, and it gave me multiple ones, but all the links were not working, and when I googled them I found nothing, which suggests that the items got discontinued. If anyone has any suggestions for a short, durable and digital USB-C to USB-C cable that would be great, it doesn't have to be from amazon. Thanks!!

I recently bought an XFX Radeon RX 6800 XT Merc 319 for my gaming rig, and I've been looking into VR headsets because I want to play Beat Sabre and Half Life Alyx. At the moment I am leaning towards the Oculus Quest 2 because it is not as expensive as others and I don't want to mess around with external sensors. Like many RDNA 2 cards, my card has a USB C output which is often referred to in relation to VR, and if I understand correctly is some sort of implementation of VirtualLink which is "dead" but simultaneously "not dead"? My main question is whether there is any documentation available anywhere about what this port does, what it is compatible with etc. i.e. could I use it to connect a Quest 2 via Oculus Link?

Hello, I am trying to make M.2 NVME compatible with a duplicator that we have which is SATA based. I am trying to find solutions as an M.2 duplicator from waht I have observed is expensive and may not have compatability with SATA based drives still. I am hoping that with an M.2 to USB-C adapter, I can then use a USB-C to SATA cable in order to then plug the USB-C end into the M.2 adapter and then plug the SATA end into the duplicator dock, then hopefully all being well it will work. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this or can shed any light as to whether it will work or why it won't, etc. Just before I get it purchased and commit to anything to save me having to return it or being stuck with it. Relevant Images below (Duplicator is exact, adapter and cable is example, not currently obtained:

Good Morning All! I have an issue with a USB 3.0 where im trying to replace a USB-A 3.0 head with a USB-C 3.0 head. Ive soldered some flying leads onto a USB-C 3.0 socket PCB and then connected these leads to the USB-A cable (where i cut one of the heads off) Using a multimeter i can see there is continuity between all the pinouts correctly. However, when im plugging this cable into a PC and a device. The device is only being recognised as USB 2.0 instead of the USB 3.0 (which the device is definitely a USB3.0 device as i have plugged in a USB-A to USB-C cable and all is working correctly) Im wondering if anyone has an experience or notes on custom making USB 3.0 cables. Im 100% sure i have the Tx+/Tx- and Rx+/Rx- connected correctly. I had no idea that USB 3.0 was so complex to get working compared to USB 2.0 where you can just put any connector on and it works!! Thanks for any advice guys ! -K

Hi I build in 2020 my pc and still using it (specs below). The tower and monitors are in my office. I would love to connect my pc to my tv the in the next room, to play there too. I planed to connect my graphic card with an tunderbolt 4 pcie card to a Thunderbolt hub next to the tv (5m distance, optical cabel). there i can split the signal to the tv (hdmi 2.1) and the peripherals. As it seems that no Thunderbolt pcie cards excist that work with my amd motherboard. now my other plan, were i‘m not sure if it works: I have two thunterbolt 4 hubs, one next to the tv and the other at the pc. i connect them together via thunderbolt 4, conect the tv via hdmi to the hub. the problematic sithe is at the pc. would it work to connect a displayport output from the hub to my grafics card to get the signal and the pc via is usbc 3.1 do get the data from the peripherals to the pc. or thos thunderbolt need the thunderbolt connection to the tv? It would be great if someone knows how to get something like this to work. Budget (including currency): 1000.- CHF (not so important) Country: Sitzerland Other details (existing parts lists): TV: - Sony KE-75XH9005 (HDMI 2.1) PC (relevant Parts): - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - MSI B450 Tomahawk Max - MSI RTX 2070 super Ventus OC

Summary Manufacturers will be forced to create a universal charging solution under a new rule proposed by the European Commission. Apple has warned such a move would harm innovation. Quotes My thoughts I think having a universal standard like USB C is an amazing Idea. The connector has so much future potential with regards to bandwidth I believe Apple is being stubborn on the topic as usual. when Lighting is such an out of date connector. Specs (Relevant): Mainboard: Asrock Extreme 4 B550 IPad: IPad Pro 21 12,9“ Excuse my englisch please im not an native-speaker IMG_0169.MP4 Okay so Hear me out, im shutting off my PC as usual and flicking my little Off Switch on the back of the PSU. Then i Notice some weird blinking in some Part of my Mainboard. To my suprise the RGB-LEDs and The debug code display lit up. I was thinking im going insane. Now the thing i noticed was that my Ipad Pro 21 was still connected via USB-C to the USB-C port of the Mainboard because i use it as a Portable second Monitor that needs the wired connection. I unplugged the IPad because i thought it might deliver the Power from the IPad via USB. And to my suprise i was right the IPad powered The mainboard. So my Question now. Is this Harmful? is the current and voltage being controlled? Is this generally Safe? Like that made me wonder why that would happen… I would love to read and reply to your answers soon. Greetings From, Germany

Hello everyone! First post here after reading a lo and not finding proper answers! First the machine specs: Laptop model: Asus 2021 ROG Zephyrus G15 - GA503QS model (https://rog.asus.com/laptops/rog-zephyrus/2021-rog-zephyrus-g15-series/helpdesk_bios) CPU: Ryzen 9 5900HS RAM: 32GB GPU: RTX 3080 8GB OS: Win 10 The issue: I do own several USB-C HUBs with mutliple outputs (HDMI, Ethernet, USB Type A, etc) none of them works with the existing USB-C ports of the machine. All drivers are updated and BIOS is also updated to last version. I am not able to plug either a screen or any USB device to the HUB that is connected to either of the two different USB-C ports that the laptop has. All the other USB ports and connections work perfectly fine. After some research I think I stumbled upon a the crappy mess of the new USB standards....The ports are supposed to be "USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C support DisplayPort™ / power delivery / G-SYNC" . All the Hubs that I have work fine with my other Intel machines, the one I have been using the most and I need on the new machine is this one (https://www.newegg.com/p/0J2-005J-00016) I do think there is an issue related to compatibility. I just grabbed this laptop for work on the go (currently squeezing UE5 in a AAA project) so having multiple screens, headphones, microphone, wacom cintiq, mouse, multiple gamepads connected at the same time is a must for me. I can handle it for a while connecting and disconnecting stuff around....but not ideal. Do you know of a good USB C that really works with USB3.2 Gen 2 Type-shutthefuckupwhyyoudothis?!??!?! protocol? Do you know for sure this isn't related to a poor usb implementation from AMD/ASUS side? I don't think is driver related, but did you have any driver issues related to this? Let me know If I there is already a similar topic on the forums, wasn't able to find it. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hello people, I have a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7(14ARE05 (82A2005KMH)) and I was wondering If I could use an external GPU with this laptop. I'm not sure if the Gen 2 is capable of doing this. In my pc I have an RTX 3070ti that I wanna make as an external GPU because I don't have the space anymore for a full size PC, so I'm trying to use my laptop as my new PC but the GPU in the laptop is not the best for gaming so that's why I wanna use the RTX 3070ti in some sort of external enclosure. Here's the specsheet of the laptop: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/Yoga/Yoga_Slim_7_14ARE05?M=82A2005KMH Anyone knows something about this? Thanks!

Hi everyone, TL;DR - I am looking for a dock that basically converts old inputs (HDMI & full size USBs) into a Thunderbolt/USB-C port output. I see a lot of docks that connect to a laptop using Thunderbolt/USB-C and provide outputs such as full-size USB, headphone jack, HDMI, etc. I am looking for the reverse of that. I have an older laptop that has 1 HDMI, 2 full-size USB ports that I'd like to plug into the dock and have one Thunderbolt/USB-C connection output on the dock. I currently have a USB-C dongle that I switch between my MacBook and a ThinkPad both of which have Thunderbolt ports, so it's a simple unplug and re-plug to switch all my peripherals and monitor between the two. I'd like to have that new dock also convert all my old laptop's ports into a simple USB-C port that I connect the dongle to and also add my old laptop into the mix. (See picture for clarity) Do the existing docks already work in that way? I don't have one to test that and would like to know before I make a purchase Thanks for any suggestions and help. P.S. The old laptop is a Lenovo Y50-70, still running perfectly well, so don't want to replace it yet

I have problems with using a HDMI monitor on my USB c dock. I know the dock works as it works on another laptop perfectly and my keyboard that is plugged into it works on my laptop. However, it doesn't output video signal. The thing is that I know it can because sometimes it outputs. For exemple, I plugged it in and it worked perfectly fine then I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it didn't work. I tried updating drivers multiple times over the past months and it didn't do anything.
