while managing my cables for my terrible case i unplugged and attempted to plug my front IO USB 3.2 connector, while doing this i broke the pin in the very top right corner. I dont know if the image attached it applicable to me but if it is, i broke the 'ID' pin. The pin completely fell off and i just thought id plug it back in without the pin and it seems to be working, i mainly use my from usb ports for stuff like my xbox controller but if i wanted to use it for usb storage would it still function correctly?

I'm trying to find the USB 3, 20-pin standard socket and plug on digikey, mouser, or anywhere else for that matter. I'm creating a PCB. What's the standard called for this connector type? Any direction would be greatly appreciated. I think I'm on the right path for the socket which I need to be THT, but I'm really having trouble finding the plug with the key. I'd prefer the plug to be crimp terminals for simplicity purposes with a diy harness assembly, but could go ribbon cable assembly if that's the only option. Promising sockets I've found so far are the 98414-G06-20ULF or LTMM-110-02-L-D. Really just need a mate to the socket connectors at this point.

Hi guys, is there a performance difference if i plug my mouse and keyboard to my front io and not rear io? my rear io is far from my desk and to use rear io usb ports i need a usb cable extension. what is the best way to use my mouse and keyboard? plug it into my front IO (usb 2.0) or use my rear io (3.0) + usb extension. if there is not noticeable difference i will just plug it into my front IO so i dont need to buy a usb extension port

So I have a gaming laptop which is always plugged in and enjoy using my wireless mouse to wake it up without having to touch it. The problem I have is I also have a laptop cooler stand under it connected via one of the USB 3.1 ports, so when my Laptop is put to sleep the fans and lights of the cooler stand are still running (fan noises ). I'm not trying to be lazzy or anything it's just I've injured my leg making it hard to move about so being able to do everything hands off would be great. (Just editing cause I have many views but no one offering advice would help a lot please if someone could help get this to work it would really help set my mind away from my leg because I'm tired of being stuck in bed the last week and I'm still struggling to use crutches got a month or so until I start walking again) (So my question is it it possible to somehow have the port the cooler stand is connected too to stop powering the device while still being able to wake my Laptop using the wireless mouse.)

Good Morning All! I have an issue with a USB 3.0 where im trying to replace a USB-A 3.0 head with a USB-C 3.0 head. Ive soldered some flying leads onto a USB-C 3.0 socket PCB and then connected these leads to the USB-A cable (where i cut one of the heads off) Using a multimeter i can see there is continuity between all the pinouts correctly. However, when im plugging this cable into a PC and a device. The device is only being recognised as USB 2.0 instead of the USB 3.0 (which the device is definitely a USB3.0 device as i have plugged in a USB-A to USB-C cable and all is working correctly) Im wondering if anyone has an experience or notes on custom making USB 3.0 cables. Im 100% sure i have the Tx+/Tx- and Rx+/Rx- connected correctly. I had no idea that USB 3.0 was so complex to get working compared to USB 2.0 where you can just put any connector on and it works!! Thanks for any advice guys ! -K

One of my usb 3.0 headers has a bent pin. The pin is close to another one and being the paranoid that I am, I worry about the pin being close to the other one. Will it cause problems? It isn’t touching the other one, and I don’t want to go though the hassle of removing the gpu and its brace and the front fans just to straighten it out.

I’ve been helping my stepdad set up a laptop dock in his home office for WFH. His laptop is slightly older - a Lenovo Flex 5-1470 - but it does have one USB-C 3.0 port. He bought two 1080p monitors that use HDMI, and a cheap USB-C dock from Best Buy. The dock would only allow one monitor to display at once, and when he called the support number for the dock, they told him that the dock he had (which supported up to USB 3.1 gen 1) supported simultaneous HDMI and DisplayPort output but not simultaneous HDMI, and that he just needed to buy one of their more expensive docks. I’m understandably suspicious of that claim. I’ve been looking online to see if USB 3.0 has support for multiple displays over a single connection, and haven’t been able to find any information other than “you can convert USB-C to HDMI” Is it possible to connect multiple displays to a single USB 3.0 connector? Keep in mind this is 3.0, not either generation of 3.1, and both displays are 1080p.

I'm building a mini-ITX PC with a Silverstone SFX case, and this one's going to be very small (duh). Because of this, storage space will be a bit of a problem for me and my extremely budget-based idea behind this build. To avoid using all SSD or M.2 storage (using a 120 gb HDD as the master drive), I opted for an HDD-USB 3.0 converter to hook up to my rig as my 2TB slave drive where I'll install most of my programs, Steam games, etc. I was just trying to figure out what type of performance drop I'll come into contact with while using that converter, because there's bound to be one. I appreciate any feedback. Here's the link for the item -------> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LS5NFQ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (I sure hope this isn't just for archival use.....) If it is, then I'll just budget for a 1TB SSD for the main drive lol

Hi guys! It's my first time here, I'm French and I don't have a lot of skills in English and in hardware, I just know the basic. ? So recently, I bought an acer aspire vx15 on rue du commerce ( https://m.rueducommerce.fr/produit/acer-aspire-vx-15-vx5-591g-558z-noir-29072208#moid:MO-2428AM70609592 ) with Linux installed into it ( not gnu Linux, not ubuntu... just Linux.) I installed windows 7 because my oncle is an computer scientist and he give it to me.? As you probably see, my new computer doesn't have USB 2.0 port , only USB 3.0 x3 and a type c connector but they bolth not working in win 7. I used a software which changes the ISO files for integrate usb 3 drivers and it works for the installation, but now I have my computer with win7, 4usb port which doesn't work and no wireless connection ( my wireless card need drivers for function .) I don't know what to do, please help me?? Thanks!!

So I have my internal HDD, HGST HTS721010A9E630, and my Samsung T3 500GB SSD. I ran a speedtest on both drives and I got a result of 121MB/s write and a 129MB/s read. On my external SSD connected via my monitors USB hub I get a 362MB/s write and 404MB/s read. Is this normal, like I know SATA3 bottlenecks. I also tested my external 3TB HDD connected via USB 3.0 and I got 144MB/s write and 151MB/s read, and for lolz I tested my NVME SSD... 948MB/s read and 1410MB/s write. I did spike to 1200MB/s on both but it slowed due to the way Blackmagic's disk speed test works. Ext SSD Internal HDD External HDD Internal NVME SSD

I want to connect two usb 3.0 monitors to my desktop and have an extended display through my graphics card (1060 6gb). How can I go about doing this? I'm doing a small form factor build that is meant to be portable and I want to use usb monitors because they're easy to use and set up. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/fpJnVY - the build https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013XFJKGI/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=ICV5O7BV2GKOI&colid=24H3XFWXZT8UN - the monitor

does your gaming pc have a empty dvd drive? i found a useful solution to fill them up. you can get 12 usb 3.0 on your computer! 7 on the front 5 on the back. all for under 35 dollars. here are the links to the two parts you need. [Link removed] the first link is a pcie to 5 usb 3.0 ports. you install in in your pc and you have 5 ports and a extra 15 PIN USB 3.0. this is where the second link comes in. a 7 port usb usb 3.0 shaped as a DVD drive to put infront of your computer. you connect the 15PIN usb 3.0 to the pcie and BOOM you have 12 extra ports of Usb 3.0! share this post to people who need this! I have a weird problem and I'm not entirely sure what to do. Recently I switched to the X570 platform with a RYZEN 5 3600X on an MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WiFi motherboard, and shortly after that I swapped the system from a Silverstone RL06 to an NZXT H700. The computer works fine, except every so often I get the "USB Controller does not have enough resources" warning message. Now, whenever I plug certain things in they just don't work. Specifically, I have a Samsung BAR 32 GB flash drive, an Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver and an Xbox One Wireless Receiver that just don't work when I plug them in to any of my USB ports, whether they're on the motherboard or the front panel. Windows doesn't show them, I don't get the connection sound, nothing. Running Windows 10 Pro on the latest update. I started experiencing this problem a few days before the error message showed up, and the error message doesn't pop up very consistently at all. I've tried reinstalling the drivers, reinstalling Windows via Fresh Start, troubleshooting through Windows, unplugging other devices, among other things. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone! I bought an used Asus p8p67 evo b3 for my brother's pc, with faulty internal (the usb case connectors) and external usb2.0 ports (the 3.0 ones work) for 20 usd. The error i receive is this "The last USB device you connected to this computer has malfunctioned and windows doesn't recognize it" The thing is, every other thing works, overclocks are stable (over 24hs of prime with small ffts), temperatures in the mobo and VRMs are normal, BIOS works as intended, there are no bent pins, and so forth. The seller said to me that he thinks that the "chip that controlls the usb 2.0 ports is faulty, as the 3.0 ports work as intended". He said to me that i could disable those ports and get away with a cheap PCI USB 2.0/3.0 card. I really don't know where the problem can be, but any help would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone, So I bought a TUrbo-X ZUB-XPSSD HDD / SSD docking station today. This little beast can contain 2 pcs of 2.5" HDDs, and has hotswap functionality. Pretty neat. I was so excited about it that one tiny fact slipped my attention: To be able to use it, I would need a 19-pin connection on the motherboard. Given the fact that I have a laptop, I don't have that available. The only cable they included is a female 19-pin connector, which "comes out of the box", literally speaking. My questions may sound a little silly (if not a lot): 1) Is there a legit converter for this cable? 2) If I buy a 19-pin to USB converter cable, would the thing work if I just plug it into my laptop? I have an Acer Helios 500 (Intel version). I have attached pictures which show the front and the backside of the device, and its cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I have bought two HDMI 3m extensions and 2 USB 3.0 3m extensions just for only one HDMI cable to work. So i need help from someone who knows a 3m USB extension that has been PROVEN to work with the lenovo explorer. My USB cables are up to spec but whenever i plug them in i get a notification saying ''usb device not recognised'' and mixed reality portal gives me error 7-14. I have tried everything i could to get the cable to be recognised so the problem must be the cable itself. So someone who knows a 3m USB cable that works, please show me. Thanks.

Hey guys, so as the title hints - I want to install a Linux distribution on a flash drive for various reasons and I'm looking for the optimal way of doing it. However, I want some feedback on this quite popular project (does it work ok, ia it too laggy, glitchy and what kind of a flash drive should I aim for). Which distro would run the best on a thumb drive? I've used Ubuntu and Mint before but I don't mind trying others. So far I believe I would need a usb 3.0 instead of a 2.0, not only to boot faster but also to run faster and hopefully not get a lot of stuttering. Also I believe a 64gb one would be recommended if I want to install some things and increase its usebility. Am I missing something? Any special notes to take? Any other recommendations? If you got any other tips on this, please share. Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, So I am building a desk pc and long story short I need 2 3.0 internal headers, I have tried looking for adapters for 3.0 headers that go from one to two but I have not found anything, but I have found 2.0 headers to 3.0 headers what are the cons? Will I loose speed and how much?

Hi everyone, I was fixing a few of my drivers due to problems that were occurring with conflicting drivers on my windows 10 device. That was over 3 months ago and since then I have not had the ability to access/use my USB 3.0 ports. I looked back through my driver listings and there was so USB 3.0 drivers listed. I thought 'oh well I'll just roll my computer back and retrieve the drivers' but due to the time I'm not certain which roll back it will be and if I go the wrong roll back I could ruin my system so that is no longer an option. My second thought was to look on the internet for available USB 3.0 drivers and found none. I then called MSI (as I have an MSI motherboard) for assistance regarding this issue and they stated that they cannot help me, there are no USB 3.0 drivers on their website and all he could do was direct me to their drivers webpage. I thought I may just have to reset my whole computer to get the drivers back but as I'm not sure if this will return the drivers I don't want to try that. The only other thing I could think of would to be to do a complete fresh install of windows if resetting the system doesn't work. However I wanted to hear what everyone here thought would be the best way in order to get my USB 3.0 drivers back, without having to loose all my data and programs from the computer. Any help is much appreciated. -Lato

I built a HTPC a while ago in Node 202 and the specs are: i5 6600 8GB RAM Asus B150I PRO GAMING/WIFI/AURA latest bios 2606 EVGA GTX1070 FTW 500W SF-L Silverstone power supply I moved the PC to another room so I attached a USB 3.0 hub to it for peripherals. After a few minutes I started noticing lag with keyboard and the mouse so I unplugged the keyboard from the hub and just used mouse and it worked fine. The hub was powered so I thought maybe its the hub that is faulty. I bought a new hub and the same problem. Checked with all the ports and the problem remains the same. I then found that any of the hubs cant get my Sandisk Extreme 64GB to detect but it shows the status light. Till then I had bought 6 USB hubs and all have the same problem. I have also tried hubs with 12V power but everything is the same. Is my motherboard faulty or something else? I am unable to figure out the problem. Deleted and reinstalled USB driver and all devices also didnt resolve the problem. Is it Windows 10 issue maybe? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone, Problem: I just built a new system and I have a problem with the front connectors on my bequiet! Pure Base 600. The case has 2 front USB3.0 connectors (both run off one internal connector of course) but they behave very weird. I can use both connectors to run USB3.0 devices like my external HDD just fine (Seagate 4TB, it appears under storage controllers in the device manager and copies at the drives maximum speed), but all my USB2 devices like thumb drives and my wired xbox 360 controller only work on one front port (they show up as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)". I am guessing this is a problem on the motherboard side since the connector itself seems to work fine with USB3.0 devices. I also don't know if there is a problem since the motherboard has two internal USB3.1 (Gen1) connectors but they should be backwards compatible? Solution Approach: The system is as fresh as it can be, all the newest drivers are installed updated the motherboards BIOS to the newest iteration updated all USB Controller Drivers through the Windows Device Manager Tried both internal USB3.1 Headers Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB devices drivers throught the Device Manager Windows 10 is up to date (10.0.17134 Build 17134) as of 08/31/2018 System: Windows 10 Pro 64bit bequiet! Straight Power 11 Modular 80+ Gold 16GB (2x 8192MB) Corsair Vengeance LPX schwarz DDR4-3000 Intel Core i7 8700K Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2 Does someone know what the problem could be or where I could even start to look?
