Hey LTT. So, I've been having a few tech issues and trying to find solutions. Context: Previously had insider preview build for Windows - that caused loads of issues downgraded and then started having other issues surrounding USB connections to my PC. Mouse: Wirelessly connected to PC with Steelseries Aerox 9 dongle - keeps cutting out intermittently, pc not in different location. Mouse on latest drivers. iPad: since downgrading apple devices won't charge off of PC, but worked fine before, cable fine and same original port. Now, i'm curious, if I get a type C hub and plug that into the type c connector on my PC, will then plugging mouse into closer port (on the hub) potentially increase connection or cause more lag. Could it also still draw enough power to maybe charge iPad (tried charging iPad before of current type C port, will only trickle charge if screen not on) Thanks, Ahanu

Hello guys! I am currently looking to buy a laptop in Germany. Based on my budget ( 900 euros ) I ended up with 2 option to think about. Dell G15 5520 i7-12700h RTX 3060 16gb ram https://www.cyberport.de/?DEEP=1C46-00J&APID=117&gclid=CjwKCAiAxvGfBhB-EiwAMPakqk6I7pEZ0yUuIEakiDYQSp2muaRnuHxJYOkLBFoejhMgj15c02_5xhoCQJIQAvD_BwE Gigabyte G5 i5-12500h RTX 3060 16gb ram https://www.cyberport.de/notebook-und-tablet/notebooks/gigabyte/pdp/1c37-064/gigabyte-g5-15-6-fhd-144hz-i5-12500h-16gb-512gb-ssd-rtx3060-dos-ke-52de213sd.html I don't care if the laptop has an OS so this is not a factor. I want to buy something that can give me the option to buy a VR Headset in the future ( I know I won't get a perfect experience since its a laptop system ). From what I understand you need a displayport 1.4 to connect most VR headsets, and I've seen that only the Gigabyte G5 has a mini displayport ( which as I understand it can be easily adapted to a full displayport ). The Dell G15 has a usb type c with thunderbolt 3 support ( I'm quoting the specs sheet on the link ). Also the Official Dell site states that the laptop has a thunderbolt 4 port so I am confused. https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/de-de/g-series-15-5520-laptop/dell-g15-5520-setup-and-specifications/external-ports?guid=guid-4c4cc1ba-66a4-45f0-8dfc-6013a624ddc0&lang=en-us From this video below I conclude that for the Dell G15 there is support for VR but you need to enable and disable things in the BIOS. If someone has this laptop with the same ports ( I guess RTX 3060 or RTX 3070 ) I would be really happy to hear their experience trying to get VR working. So I'm trying to decide which of these 2 laptops to get, I know that the i5 12500h is weaker from the i7 12700h but I see they only have a difference of 2 physical cores ( i7 has 20 threads and i5 has 16 threads ), so I could just bite the bullet and buy the laptop with the slightly waker CPU but with 100% guaranteed VR support. Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm currently trying to use a USB C to Display Port Video Adapter from Cable Matters to add an additional video display to my PC since I use 4 monitors, and also have a VR headset. It is tedious to swap them out when I'm not using my VR headset, so using an adapter is essential to me. I've thought about buying a Thunderbolt PCIE card but since I don't need that many ports I decided to stick with this route. I honestly might just go that route anyway since I can't find any answers or solutions to my issue and am willing to pay someone for any type of avail to lead me to some type of resolution. The issue that happens is when I plug the adapter into my motherboards USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type C ports for the back IO and front panel IO ports (neither work) shows this error code message in device manager on Windows 10. Here is a list of things I've already done and specs. Specs: CPU: Intel i9-10900k Motherboard: ASUS MAXIMUS XII Hero Wi-Fi GPU: EVGA 3080 iCX RAM: Corsair DDR4 32GB 3600Mhz - Created a fresh dual boot Windows 10 OS using the media creation tool - Uninstall the drivers/reinstalling, rebooting PC, updating Windows 10 to the latest 20H2 build. - Tried my previous ASUS Maximus XI hero motherboard that I had laying around and get the same issue - Ordered a replacement from Cable Matters and another brand from StarTech off Amazon - Tried 3x multiple DisplayPort cables (all 1.2). I've ordered DisplayPort 1.4 cables but I think they are reverse compatible regardless I've been wanting to upgrade them. - Installed MEI drivers - Forced USB Type C power to be on in BIOS settings - Tried latest current beta, latest stable, and initial revision BIOS update versions. Tried clearing CMOS same issue. I'm sure it's nothing wrong with the adapter, I tested this on my Lenovo yoga laptop and it works perfectly fine to one of my monitors so I know the cable/adapter is not the problem and has to be something in relation with my motherboard. One thing I'm going to try is order a USB Type C to Type C cable and see If I'm able to transfer data from my Android phone between my computer to ensure the port is actually functional. Also something interesting I noted is that the Cable Matters USB-C 8K Video Adapter shows up in device manager here which tells me it's getting some type of connection. I'm just not really sure what the error code 43 means, I've tried googling it and seem to be getting not a uniform answer from what the actual issue is nor how to resolve it. Now I guess it is possible that my motherboard could just be defective I just find it really weird, that 2 motherboards have nearly the same exact issue.

Hey everyone I am planning my first build and just fell into the usb c headers rabbit hole due to the stream of today. So the case I want to use is the Lian Li LANCOOL II Mesh wich has the option for a USB 3.1 type c. i just found out dat not many motherboards have the necessary header, so I found some but those have usb 3.2 (gen2(x2)) and could not find any info if those headers are the same? Secondly the motherboard that I had In mind is the: Gigabyte B550M DS3H. Which has 6x USB 3.2 (Gen1) headers is it possible to use a adapter to use one header for the usb 3.1 type c? Thank you already for helping me!

Hi guys, I'm looking for a mid-tower case for ATX board that will fit my requirements, so far I've found those 2, what do you guys think of them, and could you suggest me other cases that could fit my needs? Also something to note, I currently have a build in a Fractal Design Define R5, so I kinda want to completly change model not just upgrade to the new version of the same case. The needs : I want a full front IO with at least 3 usb type-A and 1 usb type-c and Separated audio jack for mic and headphone. (I guess I could live with 2 usb type-a (usb 3.0), but i'll need to buy a usb hub) I'm building with an i9 12900k and planning on buying a cooler soon, the artic liquid freezer II 280mm, good choice? And this is paired with an RTX 3080 gigabyte gaming oc I want a side window (tempered glass ideally), good cable management possibility and obviously good airflow. The PC is for video editing and gaming. Thanks guys!

I've only noticed this recently while searching for my personal project: The motherboard header interface for USB type C front panel does not seem to have a standard defining its name and wiring, somehow? USB 3.0(type A) front panel header seems to have a standard per this document that Intel provides. USB type C header, on the other hand, seems to be: animously refered to as USB type E or key A does not have any technical descriptions, even from USB-IF and even has user claims that implies the wirings for these interfaces are not standardized across hardware(mobo) vendors. It makes no sense for this header to not be unified and standardized; yet I can't find a clear documentation as to its specification. Can someone point me to where I might find it?

I recently purchased a laptop, The Asus Laptop 15 X515JA. I needed the extra ports provided when using a usb-c hub with the laptop. Upon trying to use a usb-c hub. It showed up with error that the device is not recognized. The usb-c hub's ports behaved as followed The usb 3.1 ports only ran at usb 2 . The HDMI port just didn't work at all. The ethernet worked. I tested with another hub and got the same results. I updated the drivers in device manager and that still did no solve my issue.

Hi everyone I've gone down a rabbit hole... How can you tell if a type-c to type-c USB cable supports the 32.4Gbbps HBR3 bandwidth requirement for DisplayPort 1.3? The problem I'm facing is that all type-c to type-c USB cables define their bandwidth as a USB 3.1 Gen X specification. From what I understand, you cannot make a direct comparison between the two since they are alternate modes (i.e., displayport alternate is its own thing, it doesn't use USB 3.1 for its data transfer). It's all so confusing, I think I might be getting a headache. Please help. Thanks!

Hi everyone, First off, this is my first post on here so if I'm stepping out of line with this post please let me know. Now getting to the subject at matter! I got thinking today and was wondering if there are any portable storage devices that can use NVMe storage to its full capacity. When I say to its full capacity, I mean getting the speeds that you would receive when installed on your motherboard but with the ease and portability of a general portable USB drive. I assume you would need to do this through the use of USB Type-c. Can USB stand up to the task I have asked or would it bottleneck the performance of my NVMe drive. I have tried looking up but I can't find a definitive answer anywhere. Thanks to anyone that can help me.

tl;dr: looking for a new usb hub to replace my anker one as it started to malfunction Hey, so I use a desktop usb hub for all of my usb connectivity (mouse, keyboard, mic, ect.) as I have my pc placed under my bed across the room (basically as far away from my desk as possible). However, recently my keyboard has started to cut out during use. This doesn't happen if i plug it directly into my PC, so it must be the hub. I was thinking id probably get the exact same one (https://www.amazon.ca/Anker-Portable-Aluminum-Adapter-3-3-Foot/dp/B00IU6R2AW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1487730052&sr=8-5&keywords=anker+usb+hub) as I can't find anything that really works better. But i was curious to see if you guys knew of anything that works better. Ideally id like to find a USB type C hub (my motherboard has a thunderbolt 3 usb type c connection) in the hopes of having enough power to drive all my devices without a powered connection like the anker hub has. thanks, (also note i live in canada so all links and suggestions must be available in canada)

So my laptop just died. I intend to replace it with something that uses usb type c as a power input because those are the models that I am currently favoring. The problem is I also own this which is now useless for charging one of THOSE notebooks. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=external+battery+50000&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aexternal+battery+50000 See the problem. No usb type c, and there are no adapter tips that support usb type c. Am I doomed? Or is there some way to get all that power from that pack into one of those usb type c notebooks?

So the s8 has recently launched along with revealing a new charger which is a usb type c and ive come to find that type c usb to hdmi, display port, and dvi work with it so i was wondering if an external graphics card could work the phone making gaming so much better.

After reading this blog post on USB C and seeing it start popuping up on almost all new phones and devices. Plus having Thunderbolt 3 added into the mix. We are going to be seeing a lot of confusion on this new connector. I think it is time for a new/updated Tech quickie on USB-C, hopefully help people figure out that just because it plugs in doesn't mean it will actually work, and in fact could damage something.

Simple question: can I hook this card https://www.amazon.com/Rosewill-RC-509-Expansion-SuperSpeed-Connector/dp/B01MRSTZXX/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1498964139&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+type+c+pcie+card to this motherboard? https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-B350-F-GAMING/ in other words, that strix motherboard only has Type A, it doesn't have Type C so can I buy a PCIe card with Type C and connect to this motherboard or do I need a board that comes with type c? cheers

Hi Guys, I recently upgrated my monitor to a LG 29UM59A, 29 inch ultrawide, with a usb type C input supporting alt mode signals. The thing is, this monitor has only one hdmi input. I have already connect my pc to it... And i got a Nintendo Switch which uses usb type c for charging and signal passing. I was wondering if I can connect these two pieces with one single usb type c male to male cable without the dock. If possible, can i charge my switch from my monitor..... THX

I have recently purchased the Moto Droid Z Force from Verizon and sadly I lost the headphone adapter during recent trips. Naturally, I went to both Verizon and Motorola for a replacement - neither Motorola don't sell them, nor Verizon... Then, I did some research on Amazon and EBay - all bad reviews(lack play/volume button support, horrible build quality). So, the good old LTT, please help-

I currently have the Gigabyte Z170X UD5 TH motherboard. It has two thunderbolt III ports in a form of USB type-C. I would like to use my iMac as a monitor, but the mac only has two thunderbolt II ports in a form of a mini display port. if I buy this adaptor from apple, would it work? http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMEL2AM/A/thunderbolt-3-usb-c-to-thunderbolt-2-adapter? If it does, can I use the power of my dedicated graphics card of my PC instead of its integrated graphics? iv tried connecting my iMac and my graphics card directly using a mini DisplayPort to display port adaptor but it didn't work. so now the idea is that, what if I could connect my imac to my motherboard via thunderbolt and use the power of my graphics card.

Hi. Currently my laptop is connected to a docking station with a Thunderbolt cable. Due to circumstances I need a longer cable (from 0,5m to 1m) and I don't know if it's ok to buy a USB type C or do I need a thunderbolt cable. The current thunderbolt cable is the only thing connected to the laptop, monitors, peripherals and networking are connected to the dock. Will USB type C cable offer slower performance in any way compared to a Thunderbolt cable? Thank you all in advance :)
