Hello fellow members of LTT forum, I am having a bit of a weird issue that I can't wrap my head around and solve. Let me start by listing my setup: - Monitor is Dell P3222QE - It is hooked to my PC with a DP cable to a 3060ti - It is also hooked to my working laptop - T490S with a USB-C (running at 4k60) - External KVM switch for my mouse and keyboard (I think that's irrelevant but more information never hurts). It's connected directly to the laptop and the PC Motherboard (not the monitor). Now here comes the problem: when I have the laptop turned ON the USB 3 ports on the monitor are working and I can charge my phone, use my monitor light bar etc. The second I turn the laptop off and all of the USB 3 ports stop working. What I tried so far: - Turning "Other USB Charging" to "On in Standby mode" - USB-C Prioritization is set to "High resolution" otherwise laptop refuses to display on the monitor - Turning everything off and on again (lol) Can anyone give me possible solutions? Thank Also another small thing that's kind of bothering me - I used to have 2x Dell U2722DE and their usb 3 charging was quite fast and okay. With this one, even when it's working I will need around a full day to charge my iPhone which I guess comes from the power draw of the 4k60 resoltion and hence it draws away from the power of the USBs? Or is it something I am doing wrong again.

Any recommendation for a switch that can switch the peripherals to different computers without too much lag or delay (preferably none at all)? And one that would work in bootloader or BIOS is also a must. My current switch has a bit of a few second delay to switch computers (slow enough for me to get delayed), and it doesn't work on bootloader (I use rEFInd) or BIOS.

Hey guys. I am a nerd and a geek with two post-secondary educations, but I seem to have tremendous difficulty figuring this out, so I decided to ask my fellow geeks. Will get a bit technical so bear with me, please. I'm using 2 Planar Helium 27 Inch monitors on my main PC. But I would love to be able to switch them to my music writing PC while having them retain the touch sensitive function. Back in the day there used to be switch boxes for regular monitors. Luckily I don't need anything like that because these monitors have PLENTY of inputs, - Display Port, HDMI, VGA, DVI, - so that part can easily be set up. Simply switch each monitor to a different input. The difficult part is having them maintain touch sensitivity on BOTH computers. Couldn't care less otherwise, but some DAWs I'm using - touch sensitivity on those knobs and XYZ pads is paramount to live recording projects. Now, I could probably wire up a DIY box with a switch for 4 USB 3 cables. Toggle left - 2 USB monitor connections to my main desktop are engaged. Toggle right - they turn off and 2 other USB 3 monitor connections are engaged from my music writing desktop. However, I would very much like to avoid this whole messy DIY affair and making the already short Planar USB 3 cables even shorter (yes they're the ones with that duplex rectangle connector). Is there anything like this available commercially? Doesn't have to be 2 and 2. Could simply be a box that switches from one USB port to another, and I'd buy 2 of them. Flick 2 switches, - change inputs on both monitors - and presto. IS there something like this and what would it be called? What should I look for? Any products like that you could recommend? Very thankful for any advice you could give.

It seems to only happen with these three devices everything else stays working and does not disconnect. They will disconnect and will not reconnect until I restart my pc, but if I plug them into my USB 3.1 Red Ports on the back of my motherboard they will be fine. It happens mostly randomly but I do know it will happen if I am using Adobe Premiere CC 2017 and it will happen while I am encoding a video or Playing a game too. This is my PC Link to my system specs. Can Someone please help it is getting very frustrating, I have tried updating drivers that helped for a little while, also tried changing to different USB 3.0 Ports that did nothing. Please and Thank You for any ones help.

Are USB 3 WiFi sticks any good, or is the USB 3 port a severe bottleneck?

Hey guys I working on building a new PC desk and one of the things I want to do is build a USB hub into the desk. I need something that can put full power to every port. I have 3 power hungry Razer Peripherals and would like to be able to charge phones and tablets on the other port all at the same time. Need at least 5 ports or more. Need to send full power to all ports, even if all are in use. USB 3.0 or 3.1 (It can be some combinations of the of 2 3.0 3.1) Suggestions? Looking for real world experience. I find that packages and spec sometimes lie.

So I have a USB Drive, when I plug it into the front usb ports it doesn't work. When I plug it in the back however, it does. I tried plugging in a different usb port in the front ports, and it works just fine. So what the heck is going on here? I hope that explanation makes sense, it kinda sounds like a riddle. Thanks

Today i noticed my reader was not wanting to cooperate at all. When even accessing a sd/micro sd card through the reader, it would take some time for windows to recognize it and the thumbnails in explorer took a while to load (the green bar over the address bar was moving, but not very quickly). I tried to play some 720p60 video files (mp4, 8mbps) in vlc, and it would play a minute or so and then stopping. Sometimes skipping around would resume playback. File transfers would start and show about 2-3mbps speeds and transfer about 100mb at a time, then freezing. After a few minutes it would transfer another 100mb and freeze again. This continues until it either completes the transfer or crashes explorer. I also tried the same card in my old pc which has an internal usb 2.0 card reader, it had some trouble as well but it was functional. Then i tried it with another sd card, (2gb) and it worked.(still sluggish though) Then i tried moving the card reader to a usb 2.0 port. Now the thumbnails loaded instantly and it was recognized faster. Then i tried the 32gb card, using the usb 2.0 port and it works. I can't tell if it has anything wrong with it. File transfers work at about 20 mbps. This card reader worked almost perfectly before my ryzen upgrade, it did originally have some trouble mounting the cards if not un-/replugged after boot. I will boot to my windows 10 install now and check if it works over there.

Macrumors article USB 3.2 (20Gbps) has been rebranded to USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, while also rebranding USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) to USB 3.2 Gen 2, and rebranding USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Which was USB 3 prior to the EARLIER rebrand) into USB 3.2 Gen 1. (Table in description might make that make more sense. Originally from Tom’s Hardware, shown in MacRumors article.) Who put George Lucas in charge of the naming department? Boy, I can’t wait to see this explanation on the WAN show.

So I was transferring a 14GB 4K Video from a PNY Turbo 256GB usb 3.0 flash drive to my Internal NVMe drive, Usually I only get typical speeds from that flash drive (50-70MB/S), but when transferring this video, i got CONSISTENT 250MB+ per second. I know it wasn't the initial read speed because the transfer took like 30 seconds and it wasn't cached anywhere because I recently restarted my computer prior to the transfer. Any ideas what could cause this?

Hello all. I have a SanDisk Ultra Flair pendrive. It's USB 3.0, 64 GB. I have had it for one or two years now. It was very fast and I used it for PortableApps, but then I had the concern of persistence of logins and other data, so I encrypted it using BitLocker. After a few hours, BitLocker had finished encrypted the drive. But it became so slow it was unusable, so I reformatted it to how it was before (exFAT). Still, it remained extremely slow when writing. The read speed is normal, but writing goes down to a few kb/s, which is slower than dial-up internet! I assume it has to do with the fact that BitLocker wrote over the whole pendrive with its partition and the safety mechanisms against flash memory degradation were overriden. My question is: Is there a way to reset the drive? I've tried to make a full format under windows, but it's taking forever and I don't know if it's the right tool. Thanks

Are external usb extensions safe to use? The usb port on the cabinet broke so I attached a external extension to the usb port and passed it through the cabinet pci brackets onto my desk. The cabinet had 1slot and 1wire but this has 2slots and 2wires. The wires are bit thicker so I zip-tied them to the psu shroud so that they don't yeet the connector out. Now I have no idea about these things so the question is will it pull more current and damage the motherboard or is it normal for hubs to have 2ports or usb 3 to support two ports. My hub is similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Excelity®-Ports-Front-Floppy-Bracket/dp/B01C1KW5L8/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=usb+3.0+front+panel&qid=1601247625&sr=8-3

Hi all, i got a weird problem with all of my USB 3 ports on my Asus Maximus X Hero. All of them only work as USB 2 Ports. Everytime I plug in a USB 3 device I get a message from Windows telling me that i could get higher speeds if i put it into a USB 3 slot. The ports are showing in the device manager, drivers are up to date, i even updated my chipset but that wasn't helping either. In the BIOS everything (ports and controlers) is enabled. This happened from one day to the other, it was working fine for 8 months now and im not aware that i made any changes to the system. Does someone know what could cause this?

Hey all! Just finished installing windows 7 and all of it's updates on my Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7283. It came with Windows 8, but i switched to 7 as I need to run certain legacy applications. I was wondering, how do I install USB 3 Drivers so I can use things like my capture card, with only supports USB 3? I tried looking around on YT, but it all looked really shady. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm looking for some guidance on how to troubleshoot a USB 3 controller. This USB 3 controller is PCI-Express connected on my motherboard and it seems to corrupt (cause filesystem errors) on my external harddrives. It usually works just fine, but in the past 3 months I had 2 incidents were my harddrive needed to be scan/repaired by Windows. Yesterday I realized that most of the files in my photos folder just went missing, and now that drove my nuts. So I removed all harddrives connected to that USB 3 controller and I want to troubleshoot it to be 100% sure that there is something wrong with the controller. I have one spare harddrive which is in perfect working condition and I could use that one to do tests on the controller. So I figured this test: I could use the program Hard Disk Sentinel, while the test drive is connected on that USB controller. I could run some tests on the drive, like Surface Test (which is read only), or maybe Refresh Data Area (which is read-write-read). If the test shows that I had a lot of Raw Read Error Rates then maybe the controller is faulty. That is of course , if I first run the same test on another controller where I get zero Raw Read Error Rates. So this is my idea of troubleshooting the USB controller, because mostly it is running fine, but losing files is unacceptable. Please collaborate and tell me how you would troubleshoot a USB controller to make sure it is working perfect. I'm on Windows 10 64bit.

I have a mini itx case+mobo, and am in need of more sata ports. I'm well aware of sata expansion slots, but the only slot is taken up by my graphics card. I was looking at sata to usb 3 cables, but they normally only work for 2.5 inch drives and not my 3.5 inch drives, as they require more power. The cables are occupying both the sata data and sata power of the hdd, meaning I can't just plug in my own sata power cable from my psu. But, would it be possible to like cut off a portion of the cable, just enough so that I can fit my own sata power cable in? So what are my options? Thanks. (for example cutting of the power port of this cable)

I'm not entirely sure if this is in the right area or not, I'm sorry if it isn't. I need help with finding a USB 3.0 PCI card but here is my problem. I need one with at least 4 ports an internal header (my mobo doesn't have one) and it cant be PCIe cause that slot is already being used. Oh and if that's not hard enough I can't use the Asmedia controller cause I need the card for my Tobii Eyex and as you know the Asmedia controllers are under powered, so it needs to be a Texas Instruments controller. My mobo only has 2 USB 3.0 ports on the back and they are Asmedia controlled.

I just got a 32Gb Patriot Stellar and Patriot claims I should be getting write speeds of up too 110Mb per second but Mine starts out at up to 36Mb/s and after a second or two drops to 16Mb/s max and sometimes dips lower (never lower than 3Mb/s) but mostly stays at 16Mb/s. How can I get faster speeds? Is there some sort of optimization I need to use? Maybe a different partition format? Here is the current and default format.

I need help sourcing an I/O set up. Im building a custom case for my friend, and this is my first time building a case from scratch. I need a complete I/O set (Power button, usb 3.0, audio). Im not super picky. Infact seeing how difficult it is to find one with a power button im getting desperate. Extra features are welcome. I will be adding a fan controller to it also, so maybe an AIO would with the works would be great. I appreciate any help, This forum is always super helpful.
