I recently got a new monitor, the qd-oled Philips Evnia 34M2C8600, and I was considering upgrading my set up. A few years ago I used to get 150+ fps on most modern games in 1440p on ultra settings, but these days my setup struggles to maintain 60+ fps even in cyberpunk on the highest settings, I find that I need to turn some settings down to get a great experience. I assume running those same games in HDR, or getting higher fps in modern games is going to get even more difficult over time, and was wondering how I could upgrade my set up to enable that. I know a guy who works at Nvidia, and he's mentioned he could probably get me a discount on a new GPU but I'm afraid my cpu will become the bottleneck in that case. Even if I do go for that route, maybe I should wait for the 5000 series? any advice? Budget (including currency): around 1000USD, 3500 nis Country: israel Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: modern gaming, anything from GOW, to Dota 2, to cod, to apex, to cyberpunk, Baldur's gate 3, etc. My current build includes: CPU - Intel I9-9700k GPU - GeForce RTX2080ti GAMING OC RAM - 4x 8GB Corsair vengeance DDR4 memory, 3200 mhz PSU - Corsair RMx Series RM650x 650w Storage - 2TB HD + 256 nvme ssd, + 500 GB nvme ssd Case - Fractal Design Define C

So replacing my motherboard for an aesthetic and case change (had a bulky corsair 200r switching to a white rgb airflow 4000d), having trouble deciding if I should keep my ryzen 5 3600 which is paired with 16gb-3200 ddr4 and a 3070 founders, or switch platforms to intel go with i5-12600k as the gaming performance looks to be a lot better, I have seen some 80-100% usage when playing warzone and emulation with rpcs3 as i play a lot of emulated NCAA 14. So leaning towards the upgrade just not sure if it's worth it, would be spending about $200 more between the B760 and processor vs the B550 (Both asus white motherboards), it also has built in USB 3.2 headers on that board where as the upgraded am4 board (B550) would need a $20 pcie card to add that. Just curious to get everyones thoughts. Thanks!

Hi everyone, Such a great forum, lots of useful info in here! Unfortunately my google skills didn't allow me to find a solution to my problem, so I wanted to ask an advice from pros. Current build: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/48010136 GIGABYTE B360 AORUS Gaming 3 WiFi (LGA1151/Intel/B250/ATX) i5 8400 RTX 2060 2x 8 GB 2666hz Corsair Vengeance PSU SeaSonic 620W 144 hz cheap 24" Acer monitor Budget (including currency): $600 Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Warzone Problem: I mainly play Warzone on this PC. It's infamous for its optimization, and also being very CPU heavy. I play on 1080p on low settings, but FPS drops and input lag are almost unbearable sometimes. It wasn't great during the times of when I made the tests (see attached), but with recent updates it's just mad bad. CPU lag is like 20-40ms. I tinkered with the settings and various set ups a lot already, but pc-builds says that's it's a CPU bottleneck. Also if Discord is turned on and I'm talking to someone, I literally start getting 1s input delay while playing. I also do realize that 2060 also becoming outdated soon, but paying thousands of dollars for just a GPU is not something I'm considering at the moment. So what are my upgrade options to improve the FPS and remove the input lag, so that I eventually could also slap a new GPU in there (when/if we're blessed with better prices and availability)? The same website suggests 9600K/8700K, but that's not for my chipset, is it? Or should I get an AMD compatible mobo and look for something like Ryzen 5? Basically something, that would have more threads and have an upgrade path for the newer GPU later? Thank you!

To give some context, I'm receiving my dad's older build and I'm wondering if I should upgrade from the Intel i7-3820 to the Intel Xeon E5-2696 v2 or if I should just bite the bullet and buy a AMD Ryzen 5 5600x, new motherboard and new ram. The part list below is the specs list and the case is also linked below (case can't be found on pc part picker.) https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Memez2231/saved/FgWb23 https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/legacy-products/cases/cosmos-2/

upgrade advice Advice for potential upgrade
TheOriginalGolem posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
I am currently looking to upgrade my GPU as its starting to battle to run modern games even at low, and i want to get into vr, i found a great deal on a used 1070 ti 8GB that was in an old crypto miner for around R3600 (about $210 USD) My Current setup: CPU: i7-4790 GPU: GTX 960 2GB RAM: 16 (4 X 4GB) Kingston 1600Mhz PSU: 700W I have 3 questions: 1. How badly will the CPU bottleneck the system? 2. How reliable is a second hand mining card? 3. What would performance be like in vr with a oculus rift s headset? Many thanks in advance -

The only thing that really bugs me is if i should but the Samsung 970 Evo m.2 Ssd for 31 euros more than the crucial p1, the only up side i see on the samsung is its faster write and read speeds (1400mb/s faster write and 1500m/s faster read) i have never used an ssd so i am not sure if spending the 31 euros on the sumsung would be worth it (help me with this please) later on when i get enough money i plan on buying an used gtx 1080ti (for around 300-350 euro) Right now i play at 1080p 60hz because of my monitor and the gtx1050 ti but later on when i have the gtx 1080 ti i plan on buying a 144hz monitor. Thanks for reading and maybe commenting. Have a nice day, Polish Guy.

I'm looking to upgrade my current CPU to something with a little more power. I'm using this system (Specs posted below) primarily for gaming but lately I've been finding myself playing more CPU bound game and I think this is what is letting me down somewhat. I'm fairly happy with my GTX970 and don't think that is the problem. I've been playing Arma, Total War and even some BF1 recently and could probably use some better hardware at this point. I tend to play quite a few lower spec games as well but they obviously aren't having any issues. Would the AMD FX8350 be a worthwhile upgrade in your opinion? I'm trying to keep my budget to around $250 aud with wiggle-room and this chip fits into that. It appears to be compatible with my motherboard, not be too excessively power hungry compared to the 6300. I don't really know what I'm doing though, PC building and even PC gaming to an extent is fairly new to me so let me know what you think. Any input is greatly appreciated. I'm new to the forums here as well so let me know if I've done something stupid like post in the wrong place or something. Thanks again

I'm thinking about upgrading my rig from its Ryzen 5 1400 to a Ryzen 5 2600, but, I don't know if I should wait until Q2 for the new 3rd gen Ryzen SKUs to hit the shelves. I'm going to be mainly gaming with it, with a RX 580 8GB. Furthermore, would it be better to keep the R5 1400 and upgrade to the GTX 1660 when it's released? Thank you in advance.

I’m looking for some advice on what the best upgrades would be for my system. Current specs are as follows: Cpu: intel i5 6600k 3.5GHz Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z170S Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB 3000MHz GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 8GB Founders Edition PSU: CORSAIR RMX White Series, RM850x Cooler: CORSAIR Hydro Series H115i Monitor: Dell Alienware 1900R 34.1", Curved Gaming Monitor, 3440 x 1440p Resolution, 4ms 120Hz, NVIDIA G-Sync. I also have 2 SSD drives one being dedicated to my OS along with a 2TB barracuda HDD. Main use for this PC is gaming. I do get good performance for gaming. I’m looking for advice on what upgrades I should prioritize. I’ve been looking at upgrading to an RTX 2070 but unsure if that’s the best choice over upgrading the CPU and motherboard.

Hello Internet, WQHD 144/120Hz or not that is the question. Currently i have a 4k 60Hz IPS Display and am supper happy with it apart from gaming in Overwatch. Im am going to upgrade to the 1170/2070 or something 1080ti aquivalent so i can finally game Witcher 3 at 60 fps in 4k. Lately im playing more and more Overwatch though and am now considering to get a higher refresh monitor and since a 4k high refresh neither the GPUs needed to power these are in my budget im considering WQHD. I wouldnt get rid of my 4k monitor and would have a dual monitor setup. What will be probably annoying though for me atleast if im dragging a window from one monitor to another where would be a size difference in the displayed window. Furthermore im not sure if my 6600k has enough horse power to power 120/144hz in WQHD. My current rig: CPU: i5 6600k@4.3 Ghz with i believe the Pure Rock bequiet CPU cooler GPU: KFA GTX 1070 MB: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 5-EU RAM: 2x8GB 3200Mhz 1st SSD: 950 Pro SSD 512 GB My budget for the upgrade (GPU+possibly Monitor+possibly CPU) is around 1200 Euro. Other games i enjoy playing: Anno 1404 (going to buy the upcoming one probably), Skyrim (planning on modding it), Far Cry 4 (not going to play the 5th one), Tomb Raider (the newest), Witcher 2, Total War: Medieval 2 (played Warhammer and Rome cpu or graka not keeping up but i am probably not going to play them much more). If i am going down with the WQHD 120/144Hz route which monitor could you recommend? If the 6600k isnt sufficient should i keep the motherboard and get a 7700k? Looking forward for you answers, appreciate that you are taking some time commenting.

upgrade advice Need some advice about what to do...
takkischitt posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi folks Really need some quality advice and thought here might be a good place to ask. So, I'm considering an upgrade of the following system with the parts I want to upgrade in red: Case: Enthoo Evolv ATX Tempered Glass Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V Gen 3 CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K OC'd @ 4.50GHz Cooler: Corsair A50 CPU Cooler RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz + Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz GPU: Zotac GeForce GTX 1070 AMP Edition 8192MB GDDR5 PSU: XFX XTR SERIES 650W Modular Power Supply I've been looking online at various bundles, deals and buying parts individually but there a few things confusing me so I'll list them below and maybe some of you kind folks can help me out: First of all, I'm not too worried about costs. I just want to get the best value for my needs. So I don't want to just blow a fortune for the absolute fastest of something which I'll not really get full use out of, but I am happy to pay more if it's going to last me better in the long run. I game a fair bit and generally like to run graphics pretty flat out (usually at 1080 -1440 res, but will probably like to dabble in 4K in future, maybe after a couple of years and after a GPU upgrade). I also do a bit of video editing, nothing major though - home video/GoPro footage, etc. What about Ryzen? I see so much arguing and fighting back and forth between the Intel and AMD fans and I'm struggling to see past it all. Are Ryzen really as good value as they're made out to be? Are Intel chips really much better and justify their higher prices? I want an upgrade that's going to last well, just like the 2500K has. I was considering an 8086K or 8700K, but I'm just not sure if it is overkill when you've got the likes of the Ryzen 1700X going for £150 at the minute which has a good core count and reasonable speeds (even if it's single core/gaming might not be quite as good, it's still only 10-15% off in FPS, right?) What about the security issues Intel are having with their chips, and the apparently 'fixes' which also may be slowing down the chips quite a bit? Would it be best to wait a while until their new chips come out to see if they've fixed the issues and there's no worries about slowdown from patches? Also, with RAM prices still so extremely high, and possibly one of the sorest parts of this upgrade for me, is there any sign they may be coming down any time soon and I should hold off? Here are some builds I've been toying with, opinions on those would also be helpful: Budget Ryzen Upgrade [ Ryzen 7 1700X -- Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML120L RGB -- Gigabyte GA-AX370-Gaming K5 -- G.Skill - Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 ] PC Upgrade Selection (June 2018) [ i5-8600K -- Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L RGB -- Asus TUF Z370 Pro Gaming -- Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 ] PC Upgrade Selection (August 2018) [ i7-8086K -- Corsair H105 -- Asus ROG MAXIMUS X HERO -- Corsair Vengeance RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3600 -- Intel 760p Series 512GB ] Another 8086K bundle [ i7-8086K -- Corsair H100i v2 -- Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming (rev. 1.0) -- G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 ] Thanks for the help. -
---This is my first post on LTT forums so if I somehow disregard an etiquette I am unaware of, I am sorry and I will strive to do better... enjoy the paragraphs!--- So its been roughly 3 years since I built my Haswell rig (the first PC have ever owned), which consists of an i5 4670K, GTX 770 Lightning, 16GB RAM, 1 TB HDD, 750W PSU, and a Z87 Sabertooth mobo... has the time come to upgrade? The reasons I ask are as following: I recently started streaming to twitch, upcoming games will definitely become harder to run, its been 3 years (does this even count?) and I spend upwards of 3 hours per day on my PC so the upgrades would not go to waste. At first I thought about getting a GTX 1080 (when they're released), so that I would be able to run everything at high settings, but I run two 1920x1080 monitors, and that would be overkill... would it not? Then I wondered if it would be better to upgrade my CPU to a i7 4770K for that hyper-threading goodness, which would help processing for my stream... from here I considered getting an i7 6700K CPU, which would require a new mobo on top, but also raises the question of what else would I have to upgrade if I updated my chipset? AND finally, I thought about scrapping the whole PC upgrade, and focussing on buying a high quality microphone solution for the audio dream (I realise that this could mean investing in a stream that never takes off). But here I am in my insecure little head, panicking over my upcoming GCSEs, and wondering why on earth I dont have the entirety of twitch following my stream... Kappa Anyways, what do you think? I would really appreciate your help on this one, Daniel

Hi, im new to the forum, but been a 'follower' for quite a while now, and since im having a little trouble figuring out what to upgrade on my pc, i decided to ask you guys. Normally i like to do my own research and decide everything on my own, but i've hitted a wall here..... So let's get to it, i managed to save a bit of money, and if you haven't figured it out by now i intend to upgrade my pc.... So my specs are: Cpu- I5 4760k @ 4.9 Mobo- Gigabyte Z87x-D3H Gpu- Asus R9 290x Ram- 8gb ddr3 ripjaws somethin..... SSD- 256gb Kingston HDD- 1tb seagate black Hdd- 1tb Seagate red hdd- 2x 500gb toshiba somethin... Power source- 650W something.... Sorry bout the lack of specifics but i dont think they will really matter for now.... So obvioulsy i want to put more ram, but since i dont know if im going to change the mobo I havent done it yet(most new mobos come with ddr4 requirement\possibility) i Have about 800 bucks to spend. I already look at relatively new processors, mainly the i7 6700k, and 5820k, but didnt think it was actually worth it. replacing parts out getting 'rid' of current ones isnt hard for me since im planning in using those parts to build a pc for my parents... So i could really use some help here. Oh almost forgot, the pc is used to 'MAINLY'(90% of the time) Gaming, a bit of designing and 3d modeling. Thanks in advanced and as costume -Sry for the bad English - if its in the wrong topic sorry about that but it seemed the most appropriate.

I have a friend that offered to sell me an 8gig kit of corsair 1600mhz. DDR3 for $50 My rig is currently a GTX 970, i5 4690k, ASUS z97 AR motherboard, and 8gigs of the same brand ram rated for 1866 MHz. Is another 8 gigs a good upgrade for this hardware if I'm playing games like BF4, Cod, witcher 3, and other big titles over he next few years before I really upgrade my PC. I have been maxing out my 8gigs in a couple of games lately and I just want your advice. THANKS!!

Hello All, I am looking for some advice, cause I want to upgrade my ram I am currently running 32GB 1866 Patriot Black Mamba Edition quad channel kit. What kind of ram should I upgrade to my mobo can only take 1866MHz DDR3, nothing higher.
