I tried to update my GPU to the latest firmware,472.12 and GE force experience told me that it would require a restart because it's critical update. Ive never had a GPU update tell me that before. When I did, the restart happened, my GPU wasn't detected at all and in device manager it was labeled "Display" rather than the usual 1660 TI label and not under Display Adapters. It came back eventually but then I restarted my pc again, and it turns out the update didn't go through, so now i'm in the process of using DDU to hopefully make sure it installs properly. But it initially disconnected again, before this time restoring that it was a 1660 TI in device manager. The fact that it disconnects initially when the restart happens has a me a tad worried. Is this GPU dying? Specs CPU i7 8700 GPU : Windforce 1660 ti Asus prime h310 plus motherboard 16 gb ddr4 ram PSU 500w Storage : 3 SSD's of various sizes.

Updating my servers firmware (IBM X3550 m3 7944)
FinOxy posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
Hi I have been trying to update my servers firmware, but I cannot get any OS to install on my server I have already succesfylly installed truenas scale on there, so it should not be a problem IBM provides a couple of options, including windows server, and some linux enterprise servers For me, the point would be not to pay for the OS just use it to update the firmware, for two servers, once. Here is the IBMs page, but I am going write the options here -windows server -SUSE linux enterprise server 10 and 11 -Red hat enterprise 7,6,5 and 4 And VMware ESX 4 The only one availlable for trial would the Suse enterprise server 11 SP4. And for trial, I mean that I don't have to subscribe to anything. Here are some specs IBM X3550 m3 7944 2x XEON E5506 32gb of RAM SAS/SATA drives -

Hi all. I was sitting at work today an thinking if the GTX 1070Ti is only like 10% less in power than a GTX 1080 would flashing the bios on the 1070ti to a 1080 not work well? If that makes sense I don't know anything about bios flashing gpus I've seen like one or two videos on bios flashing a RX480 to a RX580 and seemed to work well. So was wondering if it would work with a 1070ti to 1080 not that I would ever want to do it just would be cool to see if it would work and how well it would work.

I have a Zenphone 2 and looking to upgrade phones. I use T-Mobile, and the phone works great for the most part, the main problem with it is that the GPS sucks so much on it. Anything I can do to make it better or a better phone to move too? Looking on the cheap end of things, I only use my phone for GPS and really play Yugioh Duel links the only game I play on it. The rest is normal facebook things and youtube. I don't care about camera at all.

How does Steam download updates for games without re-downloading all the files? My complete guess would be some kind of checksum...check... then update based on that but i have no idea how and its kinda got me curious.

Hello everyone! Just registered at this forum. Well, I guess the title is self explanatory, I updated my BIOS to the latest firmware and now, when overclocking my cpu (automatically by game boost to 4.4Ghz) it increased roughly the voltage by 0,1v. This may not sound too much but to me it is. I had the voltages at 1.246v and now I have them at 1.360v. please help! Uploaded the results, before and after update. Specs: MoBo: MSI Z170A-G45 CPU: i7-6700K CPU Cooler: NZXT x61 Kraken RAM: 2x8 GB Kingston HyperX Fury DDR4-2666MHz GPU: MSI NVIDIA GTX 980 Gaming 4G Disk 1: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB Disk 2: WD Black 7200RPM 64MB Cache PSU: Seasonic M12II Evo Edition 850W

Hello, I just came back from my vacation and I was really anxious to play Black Ops 3 today but I saw that it needed to update so I let it try to update. And It says one the side that the update is scheduled for 4:22 and its 4:22 and now it says scheduled for 4:27 so every time it reaches the time it just advances 5 minutes... Also, If I try to play the game it says An error occurred while updating Call of Duty: Black Ops III (content still encrypted)... Any Idea?? This also happened to my friend about a week ago and it still sin't working. We also tried unistalling his game and tryng to reinstall fresh but it shows the same error... Please Help!

Hello Linustechtips forum this is my first topic in the community and I would like to say a big hello to every body. My system is: Case: cooler master haf 932 (4 fans : front 230mm, side 230mm, back 140mm, top 230mm) Psu: cooler master m2 silent pro 1000w Mobo: asus p9x79 Cpu: intel i7-3820 (stock cooler) Ram: corsair vengeance 16gb 4x4 (cmz16gx3m4a1600c9) Gpu: xfx 7970 Hd: WD greenpower 2tb and SSD corsair force 120gb (boot drive) My graphics card died after 2/3 years and I decided to buy a Asus Strix r9 390 8gb OC and maybe go with a xfire set up. I upgraded the stock cpu cooler with a Bequiet! dark rock pro 3 I hope it fist because my ram is quite high. I have 2 questions and 2 answers for them but I wanted to know what other people might advice. I am a gamer and use my computer exclusively for gaming and occasionally watch videos in highres as I have a laptop for working and browsing. I wanted to step in the 4k thing now that prices for monitors dropped. I am very picky with graphics and while playing main stream games I want to play at the highest res I can (max to ultra). I play mostly: bf3, arma 3, assetto corsa, euro truck simulator 2, evolve, metro last light, Beam ng, cod, interstellar marines. I dont do many things while gaming no more than some times music playing via web. (no anti virus and no streaming/recording) So other than the normal apps playing in the back ground I don't use many cores in my cpu so I think a 4 core is best for me. I want to start over clocking will do just cpu and gpu with moderate OC. I was looking at my cpu on ark and found out that it only supports pcie 2.0 and my mother board supports 3.0 and I think it would be a big waste of money putting such nice graphics cards on a 2.0 while I can benefit of the 3.0 so I had the idea of changing cpu and here is the first question. 1. my socket is lga 2011 and I wanted to change the cpu: I ether go with a i7-4820k for 369 fr. or go into amd side and buy a asus crosshair v formula-z and a amd fx 9590 for 520 fr. I would like to go to AMD processors just to try, but I think that 8 cores are 2 much for me and will never use the processor at full of its capability, and probably benefit more from the intel cpu with 4 cores. 2. Second question is can I cut or remove the fins on the ram if they interfere with the cpu cooler or ram need heat dissipation? (I dont oc ram) sorry for the long post.

One time I bricked a Asus board accidentally unplugging power to it while a update was running.what does these updates do actually? I would like to get some advices on this...

Alright, so I just built my first pc and in most of the "Build a PC" videos they say after installing the OS that you should update all the drivers. Well I updated most of the drivers but I saw a bunch of info on why you shouldn't ever update BIOS and how it can ruin your MB forever. Well I'm using a Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard and I think you have to update it with USB. So I downloaded the bios onto the USB drive but now I don't know if I should do it. Should I? Also when I was on Asus's website they had 46 files located under "Drivers and Tools" for windows 8.1, you can see here http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/X99DELUXE/HelpDesk_Download/ I'm a bit confused, do I update all of these? or will just updating to "BIOS 1104" include all of these? They also have two other tabs including "Memory/Device Support" and "CPU Support", Do I need these as well? This again is my first build and any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So after being recommended Linus Tech Tips as the place to go to help me decide how to pick out parts for my new gaming / work rig I decided to go with the Gigabyte X99 Gaming 5 after what seemed to be pretty glowing reviews. Sadly I had a few BSOD issues and so the cure that was recommended was "have you updated the BIOS?" sure that seems reasonable. NUPE! Updated to the newest version using Gigabyte's own @Bios Utility Nightmare! Stuck in a Post - Reboot loop The keyboard is recognized but I cant enter into the Bios Q-Flash doesn't work cause it doesn't seem to know I'm mashing END like I'm at the county fair and playing wack-a-mole Q-Flash PLUS doesn't work for me.... no idea why. There are cryptic weird suggestions on the Gigabyte forums like "have you taken out all the RAM sticks except one?" Lolwut? Siiiigh.... FML lil help anyone?

I'm currently think about the idea of a hackintosh I can't decide to go with a hackintosh or the new macbook pro. I currently have the 2012 macbook pro that is starting to be the end. I do a lot of Xcode development and always need to have the latest Xcode so I can post new apps to the app store. I don't know if there is a work around to Xcode being this way.

Hello people of LTT! I wanted to update my current rig so that i could overclock it and have low temperatures. My current computers includes the following: i7-2600K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Asus P8Z68-V PRO ATX LGA1155 G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Asus Radeon HD 6870 1GB @ 915 mhz WD Cavier Blue 1TB OCZ ModXStream 600W Ultra Aluminus ATX tower stock cpu cooler and two 120mm silverstone fans As you can see all my components have not been overclocked. I am afraid that if i overclock without having a good cooling system i could harm my computer. The Temps i have for my cpu @ idle are around 45 degrees Celsius. My question involves with cooling, gpu upgrade and other cooling measures i can take. I am thinking of getting a fractal design r4 case, and with that would like to get a cpu air cooler but im not to sure what would be a good fit for me. With that i also wanted to get advice on a gpu i could use that wont bottleneck my cpu if i want to oc it to 4.0 ghz. Please advice me of any recommended air coolers, gpu (looking at amd) and maybe also some ssd options for my OS. THANKS A LOT PEOPLE OF LTT!!!
