This Guide is for Updating the Various Components of a Windows Computer and is Intended for: Those who have a fresh install of Windows on their computer and haven't installed any drivers yet Contrary to popular belief, a default Windows install will NOT update all of the things listed in this guide Those who are trying to troubleshoot issues. This is a great place to start and rule out the simple things quickly. Those who want to see if they have anything out-of-date This guide does include links to update the OEM software on laptops MANUAL METHOD (Motherboard) This is for those who want to avoid installing the all-in-one updating software from motherboard manufacturers. Skip to step 4 if you want to go that route. For updating desktop motherboard drivers (for laptops, skip to step 4 and select your brand) Run the following commands in PowerShell to obtain your motherboard model and UEFI version Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_baseboard | Format-List -Property Manufacturer,Model,Name,SKU,Product Get-CimInstance Win32_BIOS | Format-List -Property SMBIOSBIOSVersion,Manufacturer,Name,Version Search for your exact motherboard model from the report in your favorite search engine. Once you find the manufacturer website and your specific motherboard, click on the Support tab (NZXT downloads are on the bottom of the page of the motherboard product description). Sometimes there are two support tabs, so look for the smaller support tab. Download the latest drivers from the Support tab and install them DO NOT SKIP INSTALLING THE CHIPSET DRIVER Manufacturer Driver Updater Apps and/or Driver Links DO NOT SKIP INSTALLING THE CHIPSET DRIVER Acer: Where to download Acer Care Center Asrock: Asrock Live Update and App Shop Asus: Armory Crate Biostar: List of Motherboards (use their Aurora app linked under individual motherboards to auto-update them) Dell: Dell Support Assist Gigabyte: Gigabyte Control Center Hewlett-Packard (HP): HP Support Assistant Intel: Download Intel Drivers and Software Lenovo: Lenovo Vantage MSI: MSI Center NZXT: Gaming Motherboards Razer: Software and Firmware Updates for Razer Systems Graphics Drivers from the GPU manufacturers AMD Drivers: AMD Drivers and Support | AMD Intel Drivers: Download Intel Drivers and Software Nvidia Drivers: Official Drivers | NVIDIA (Installing GeForce Experience is not required.) Lack of information from manufacturers Android phone manufacturers on OS upgrade paths (in years) and security updates (in years), as well as HOW TO FIX IT! We know that device manufacturers Android phone manufacturers are only concerned with increasing income by selling new products. We know they will only respond to negative publicity. We are aware that there is no transparency about such a crucial topic as there is for food like "Nutritional Facts Labels". This information should be front and center, right below Price! Security should be made Sexy! So, in the comments, remind your favorite tech influencers to always ask the manufacturer Android phone manufacturer how many years of updates and security patches come with the gadget before accepting the "Press Pack." Also, if the manufacturer Android phone manufacturer does not respond via email, mention it in the video. "Because manufacturer Android phone manufacturers XYZ has not disclosed the OS upgrade path or security update durations in years, assume that this device phone / tablet will not receive updates." "Phone does not have an unlocked boot-loader, this Android phone manufacturer is creating Ewaste" ( credit user E-waste ) Put it on the screen and say it in the video along with the price. When organizations such as LTT and MKBHD start doing this, small and midsized reviewers will follow. This negative publicity will may eventually drive device manufacturers Android phone manufacturers to announce, "Look, we're selling this device phone for $199, you get the device as is." Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Please let me know in the comments if this is a bad idea. This post was inspired by Louis Rossmann's recent video about end-of-life Chromebooks being sold by our friendly neighborhood online flea market. Please feel free to turn the comments in to a dumpster fire , so the topic gets visibility. Maybe one of the LTT phone reviewers will read this. Edited for clarity ... this is about Android phone manufacturers not all other manufacturers of devices, including but not limited to washing machines, lawn mowers and "Rosie the robot nanny".

Summary This can be an issue with both AMD and GEN 4 PCIe, which PCIe gen 4 had their issues with PCIe riser cables and maybe in more areas. The issues that can stem from this is, USB port dropout, USB 2.0 audio crackling (e.g. DAC/AMP combos), and USB/PCIe Gen 4 exclusion. AMD has prepared AGESA 1.2.0.2 to deploy this update, and they plan to distribute the 1.2.0.2 version. Customers can expect downloadable BIOSes containing AGESA 1.2.0.2 to begin with beta updates in early April. Also there has been a few reports of similar issues, but not always the same cause in the LTT thread from AMD users. One could fix some of their problems by running in GEN 3 mode? My thoughts This could be a problem for some, and their experience with AMD products. Hopefully it gets resolved, as from what I have seen or heard. There are some people in the LTT forum that MIGHT have some issues that could be related to this. Also this being an early beginner tax, for the GEN 4 PCIe. Sources

Summary Following last month’s announcement that OnePlus was integrating with Oppo, effectively becoming a sub-brand of the phone manufacturer, the company announced that it’s also merging codebase of OxygenOS and Oppo’s ColorOS operating system. Quotes This Post also includes Android update schedule for it's devices. My thoughts I think this might be the end of OnePlus. Being known for excellent software support I personally don't like this change at all. Been using OnePlus 7 and experiencing buggy Android 11 update, we all know where this all is going. This is the first time I've ever encountered such an issue but, it seems that after getting the new Windows 10 version 20H2 update, there is great delay in almost every process. This includes opening apps and even using the START MENU! It takes my laptop, quite literally, 5 seconds to open the start menu or reopen any app I have in my task bar! I am posting this here with hopes to find a way to fix this issue, as not only is it very frustrating but it's also got some impact on my work which I do from home. BTW, I am using an Acer Predator Helios 300 of 2019. This is why I really don't think it's the laptop's specs. The relevant specs are: CPU: Intel Core i7 9750H Memory: 16 GB DDR4 2667 MHz Disk (Windows): NVME WDC PC SN720 SDA GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti

So for my new build I'm using an install disc. I'm doing this instead of a fresh copy of Windows 10 on a flash drive because the install disc is for Windows 10 Enterprise. So the question is: Do I install updates before drivers; or drivers before updates. Thanks!

Computer is a MSI GP62 6QF Laptop. When installing updates and then restarting, or whenever I restart it in general, it hangs on the MSI boot screen and will not continue reboot no matter how long I leave it. So now, I have updates pending and can't install them, as when I select shut down it tries a restart and gets hung up at the same point again...

Hi everyone, What tools for controlling Windows 10 telemetry and updates do you know/use? Preferably up-to-date and with passive principle (setting/registry changer) and not as an active process in the background. There was such tool in one of ltt’s Windows10/11 videos “that worked very well” according to Linus but I can’t remember or find the name. I used so far the tool Blackbird, but it is outdated and quite aggressive.

Should I bother updating my BIOS if I’m having absolutely zero issues with my build? My concern is if updating it will suddenly cause some problems for whatever reason. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? Or should I just update for the latest security features and such regardless? I’m running a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master (rev 1.1/1.2) on BIOS version F31o so this version is quite dated now but I haven’t had a single problem. Thoughts? (I know how to update and all, just curious if it's worth it just to be on the latest non beta bios?)

i just acquired my moms old PC (windows 10) and it hasn't been turned on for years and probably hasn't gotten driver updates science she got it, what is a good free tool for updating my drivers? like automatically installing them for me (and maybe ask me to confirm what drivers i want to update)

Hi all, After 2x years of running Linux/Macs (where driver updates are part of the system) I moved to windows. At first it was with laptops, so they have their own dedicated tools. Now I actually built a PC and I'm wondering how to keep my drivers up to date. The main devices I'm talking about are: Nvidia 3080 TI Asus TUF Gaming z790 motherboard One option is to go to their respective websites and manually download and install the driver updates. This seems too much work and I'm hoping to avoid that. Another option would be to install applications to manage updates (more on that later), and last - maybe windows check for driver updates automatically? (Since I've only been running this PC for a month, I don't have a lot of experience with it). Regarding applications to keep driver updates: Nvidia - I know there's GeForce Experience. Is it the only option? Does it take a lot of resources constantly running? (I know it also have a lot of benefits like games specific drivers, etc). Asus Motherboard - This has been a source for a lot of troubles. I've installed Armoury Crate and it's full of bloat and constantly causing me troubles (e.g. high CPU usage until I restart). Is there another option for keeping the drivers updated? I saw there's an Intel drivers update tool. Since almost all of the drivers for the motherboard are Intel (except the audio), can I use that? Is it any better? Thanks for your help. Haim

Dear reader, After Windows decided to promptly bluescreen and feature-update my system; inside working hours; unannounced with no warning; while I was actively using the system, I am looking into options to take over manual control over their ridiculous updating policy and practices. Furthermore, I do not wish to partake in the Russian roulette that is "Will this update brick my system+data or not?" I had thought that using Debotnet scripts would work (ran scripts in both user and administrator privileges), but it apparently didn't. I am using Windows 10 Pro N, version 1809. My setting is on a delay on feature updates for 365 days. I have found several methods and software (some links may contain the same), but I am not certain if they still work or not. Most seem not really updated on their effect (e.g., updates stop at ±2018): (1) https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1133684-stopping-windows-from-auto-updating/?tab=comments#comment-13122271 (accompanying software): https://winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.1836 (2) https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/954195-ten-different-ways-to-stop-block-or-disable-windows-update-in-windows-10-updated-sept-2018/?tab=comments#comment-11593102 (3) https://www.wintips.org/how-to-turn-off-windows-10-updates-permanently/#part-2 (4) https://www.mirinsoft.com/ms-apps/debotnet Do any of you have experience with any of the aforementioned methods, either in comments or the described ones, or perhaps can provide one that I did not list here? What would work best? Cheers, JB

https://www.sammobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s7-stops-update-four-years-after-launch/ RIP, i'm gonna run my phone to the ground until they released a phone without the damn hole punch, i really wish they'd make 2 variants of the same new phones one without the selfie cam and one with as a trail run and let people decide if they want both as i've never once used the damn thing.

I recently bought a 2nd hand lenovo laptop with i5 6200u amd radeon r5 m330, but both the intel and the amd drivers seem to be updated. I had an easier time updating the intel, but when it came to the radeon, I don't seem to have the "Updates" button on the bottom of radeon settings screen, and I don't seem to also have the "View Release Notes" option in the Software under the System option. I also tried to download the new version of my R5 M330 (the adrenalin 2020 ed), but when it finishes installing, my mouse seem to load for a bit, then nothing happened, no changes in the radeon settings, no prompt telling me that its finished, or I have to restart, nothing. Is my AMD defective? Perhaps pirated? I need help please. Any and all comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

So I recently built a computer with a Z270E board from Asus and was going to download the drivers from their website. Since I also have some other parts that are aura compatible I went to download the Aura software too, but then I noticed that it says to update to the latest BIOS before downloading Aura. So my question is should I update my bios or should I leave it?

I don't exactly know where to post this, and maybe if someone could direct me to the correct forum that would be cool, but.. Windows 10 has decided to download a month old driver for NVIDIA - Display - 12/29/2016 12:00:00 AM - 21.21.13.7653, even though I do not have an nvidia card in my system. When I first built my rig, I had a GT 660 as a placeholder until I got a good GPU, and receiving updates for nvidia cards while I have an AMD RX 480 NITRO in my system, it doesn't seem right. I thought uninstalling all the nvidia drivers over half a year ago would mean I could never receive updates for their products again, ESPECIALLY for a GTX 10-whatever that I've never owned. What can I do to stop this from ever wasting my internet connection and time again? Do I have to dig around in my system to prevent this? I do not need nvidia drivers cluttering up my HDD. This has peeved me off because of my very limited connection, all it did was waste my time. Any thoughts/help is appreciated.
