After a couple of months of waiting for a sketchy Ebay shipment from Latvia, it arrived. The Sunbeam 5.25 bay cig lighter. I spent the better part of a year trying to find a legit one. Absolute novelty, works great. Anyone else have a PC that still runs one of these?

I just had to share this when I first saw it. Cleanest build I've seen, the GPU being part of the case is art. Wish more companies do it with their products, imagine msi GPU with msi case.

Gamers Nexus recently finished building a custom PC for the Metal Music Band "Trivium". Video Linked at the bottom of this Post. The sad fact of the matter is that Cases like these are extremely expensive and out of the reach of most consumers. I think that should change... Affordable Consumer Cases are always pretty much the same thing: its just a box. Okay sure, some boxes have some unique flair and styling details but they are still just boxes, especially high-performance cases designed with high-airflow in mind. Sure there are a few unique options like the Cougar Conquer and Thermaltake Core Open-Air series, but again they are extremely expensive and choices are few and far-between. I think cases like these should become more mainstream, I would love to build a PC in a case like this, wouldn't you?

Build Planning thread here: Final revision of PC Part Picker List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GcJVxs So for a case I would like to try something new and unique, kind of bored of plain boxes. Ive always really liked the Cougar Conquer case but it wouldn't work well as I plan on high-end Air Cooling. Im a bit stumped on what route I should take, definitely willing to splurge a bit on a unique case.

Issue: So, in about September 2020, my PC started bugging out so I replaced the motherboard and then my monitor stopped detecting my pc (but my tv detects it) so I replaced my monitor. The monitor is brand new, it detects my laptop but still not my PC; my PC connects to my tv but doesn't connect to my monitor. I've tried everything I could find on the internet but the issue persists. PC specs: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G (Vega 11 integrated graphics). Asus EX - A320M Gaming Motherboard. Corsair Vengeance 1x16 GB DDR4 RAM. Crucial BX500 120GB 3D NAND SATA 2.5-inch SSD. Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB Internal HDD. Monitor - BenQ gw2283 (The new one) Thermaltake PS-TRS-0500NPCWEU-2 TR2 S 500W Power Supply. Thanks for taking the time to read this

So I have a very specialised build requirement. As part of my job, along with all the normal office processes (email, data transfer, video calls, blah) I kill laptops and PCs. Not intentionally, I’m no quality engineer or anything. I just put a lot of stress on ‘normal’ standard issue PCs that they were never meant for. My company (as many do) have an agreement with Dell and they provide a specific range of Laptops and PCs, with highest spec ‘CAD’ machine being a Precision 5520. I have killed 2 of them in the last 18months by cooking the processors. Now I know some may say that laptops a prone to overheating if they don’t get cleaned regularly or don’t get good air circulation etc, but all he devices I have killed sit of raised laptop cooling platforms and a regularly cleaned out. Now, being a bit more specific, I am a Systems Engineer and PLC Programmer. Some of you may know what that means, but it’s a bit niche industry so some may not know what that entails. PLCs are Programmable Logic Controllers and are used in industrial automation equipment to carry out an specific processes or sequences to produce or manufacture products and equipment. Think of it as the precursor of the Aduino and RaspberryPi but with industrial standards of safety and repeatability. Now a simple conveyor system will only need a few lines of code to transport a ‘thing’ from one end to the other, using only a push button for any sort of human intervention. For complex systems an HMI (Human Machine Interface) is required. These usually contain graphics and many many pages of settings configuration data, industrial networking and data transfers. Really complex systems can contain 10’s of thousands of lines of complex interlacing logic with over 100 screens on an HMI to handle it all. All this data then needs to be compiled into a language that can be processed by the PLCs at incredibly high speeds (most free running PLCs will run at <100ms cycle times, completing each line of logic control and calculations with each cycle). To be annoying, each PLC manufacturer uses their own proprietary software to program their PLCs. And this is what me and my team do. We have to program PLCs across multiple platforms (Siemens TiaPortal, ABB Automation Builder, Rockwell Studio 5000, etc) simultaneously to ensure compatibility. So that’s up to 3 or 4 highly demanding programs open at the same time (multitasking across multiple screens), which is hard enough as it is. However, when these are set to compile, the demand on system resources skyrocket. CPUs will sit at 100% full core capacity for up to 30 mins per platform. Some will be sitting up about now and suggest farming out the compiling to a server farm and take the load off the PCs. But here’s the kicker; we have to be able do this offline, with no internet or corporate network access. Specifically, we need be able to do this, sat in front of machine in a factory, on a workshop floor, hospital boiler room, etc where any network access will be limited at best. Budget will be in the £1500-2000GBP ($1800-2500 USD) but all this needs to last at least 5 years otherwise the company won’t budge. Now, I have been hesitant to specify laptops, as I what to be open to ideas like ultra compact with battery powered screens, etc. if the computing power is there, I am willing to accept some compromise on portability and sleek designs.

Hey all, hope y'all having a great day! I'm back again with another post and this time I have upped my build to a new level. Now before everyone starts suggesting to get a standard ATX full tower case, I am hellbent on using the Powermac G5 case and I will not be changing my plans to use it. Now with that said. I plan on building my personal PC inside the 2005 Powermac G5 case as seen here (link to Ebay): http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PowerMac-G5-empty-enclosure-case-build-custom-Mac-PC-Hackintosh-B-grade-/162188602959?hash=item25c331ae4f:g:wBoAAOSwh-1W2oJG I have also decided that this build below suits my needs exactly and are within my budget (link to PC Part Picker): http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/RKTH3F Now knowing that the G5 case doesn't accommodate for standard ATX form factors, I want to get some opinions and suggestions on how I would mod the internals and the rear of the case to mount the motherboard and have the PCI slots line up with the PCI IO brackets. Some people have put up walkthroughs, blog posts and youtube videos, however, I still don't quite understand the process fully but am really keen to undertake this project. I am thinking about installing a Motherboard mounting plate but am unsure if this would put the slots out of alignment with the IO brackets. I am welcome to any comments and suggestions Thanks

Bula from Fiji Islands! World Renown Olympic Gold medalists in 7s Rugby!! And our Famous Fiji Water! I was inspired by Linus, and the other guys (don't want to post their channels as it might be in conflict with Linus so lets just say Jay and Bit) Youtube channels. As in the Pacific Islands we are way behind in the tech industry. I love tech and thanks to you guys I have been able to build this one of a kind PC (with the best parts I can get here on the Island) This build consists of gutting out two desktops and a laptop, and using parts for this build since PC parts are ridiculously expensive here in Fiji Islands and not to mention our very weak currency. I got the rigs when the company I worked for closed down and the owner gave me all the office equipment. Once I have enough moolah ($) to upgrade parts I will then do so (unless some good samaritan gifts me something ). The Beauty of this build is the Custom Case. I have modified an old Copper Port/Starboard Light that was used in the old days on ships. These are vintage items, I'm talking about 100 year old lamps. Mines an Authentic one owned by my father who was a sailor who got his off his ships captain, bless his soul. The Build (Which Is still in Progress physically yet complete imaginatively) 1st Step I took was to plan the layout and size up everything to fit in this case. I had to go with a Small Form Factor build as very little space was available for everything. However in the end this build will turn out great (Once I buy a SSD and the GPU it will be complete) My planning was drawn up on a whiteboard (perfect for erasing and re drawing) I also checked the compatibility of all the parts using pcpartpicker. Its amazing the things people have made free on the internet! God bless their souls! 2nd step was the cutting of the back plate using a grinder and cutting disk, (Using a dremmel would have been more cleaner than grinder and cutting disk, however the tools I had to work with were what I could find). I installed hinges and locking mechanism for easy access to internals for upgrading in future and maintenance. To get proper measurements and mounting points I photocopied to scale the mother board, HDD, etc and drilled the marked holes. Everything aligned perfectly. I will have the 2x80mm fans from the 2 gutted desktops mounted at the bottom and a large fan from a cooler master laptop stand fan that fits perfectly on the case top opening. The Power supply mounts at the bottom, HDD between the Glass slots along with cable management. Motherboard on back plate. I ordered the hinges and edge guard for lining the back plate I had cut out as grinder cutting disk took out a good chunk of metal leaving a big space. Got it off aliexpress. 3rd step was installing all the parts and cable management. This was the easiest part as I had all the videos for this at my disposal. I got a lot of stuff off aliexpress which were mind glowingly cheap (Cable ties the velcro type, motherboard risers and screws, the CPU cooler, its a Segotop model, the thermal paste and some thermal pads) 4th step Installing OS and Drivers. I have the windows 7 Pro OEM from the two desktops I gutted. Wondering if I can use it to get Windows 10. Will find out once I get the SSD and GPU. Tools Star Screw Driver, Engineer Chalk (marking), Grinder with thin cutting Disk, Drill and drill bit, Centre Punch (Marking and drill guid) File (for filing off rough edges and size), Hammer (for driving centre punch) and finally Imagination the most important tool that birthed this build. I am saving up to get a good Graphics card, some decent RAM and an SSD and CPU to complete it. I plan in the future to upgrade to a better motherboard and liquid cooling. I will want to use copper tubing to compliment the case. The Glass is a special magnified glass and it really shows off the internals of the build. The PC Gods also made cable management a breeze with the way the Case was originally built. Two part question. In searching for my next CPU acquisition I came across the Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.73Ghz / JM80547PH1092MM (BX80547PH3730F) and I see people asking insane amounts of money for these things. Upwards of $600 dollars (and that's just the 3.46Ghz variant) I'm asking myself and you guys, if this is one of the most rare processors in existence? AND What do you think is the most "valuable" CPU? This is a more subjective question.

so I recently purchased the Razer Black-widow chroma v2, this is the first Razer and mechanical keyboard that I have purchased and I love it so much , I was messing about with new new synapse 3 software setting up the perfect lighting and all that, I have seen YouTube videos of people complaining about it being confusing but I picked it up in no time. after I had set up my keyboard lighting I started to test some macros, just some silly ones to start off with. after some time I realised that with the hyper shift key I can set some keys to change the current keyboard profile(specifically 92 keys can be remapped on this keyboard while the Hyper-Shift key is pressed). and in each profile a total of 108 keys (every key not including, windows logo and the Hyper-Shift) can be uniquely mapped to a macro lets say. so if there is 92 unique possible profiles each with 108 unique possible key maps then that's a total of 9936 unique macros. if you could remember that many macros this would make any keyboard that has the ability to do this very op and I love it. but keep in mind that's only the keyboard. you can also remap the mouse with each profile and also if you have any other peripherals. in total you could possibly have up to 13,000 unique macros maybe even more. I just wanted to point this out as I think this makes these keyboard that much more special and unique. and with the USB port on the side of the keyboard I can have a mini USB with the macros stored on it in case I don't have WiFi I can still load them from that.

The Ultimate Toolbox PC [English] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, I'm starting a Buildlog here for my new project, as the title suggests, "The Ultimate Toolbox PC". The purpose of this Project is to cram as much PC Hardware as possible in a Case made out of a Toolbox (µATX Motherboard, CPU, RAM, GPU, SFX PSU, CPU cooler, 4-5 HDD's, Fans and a 21.5 "screen). This project is about to demonstrate what can be built in a toolbox. Another reason is, that I would like to have a mobile diagnistic PC. Hardware: CPU: Intel Core i5 4570 RAM: Avexir Core Yellow 2x4GB (lying around) MoBo: Gigabyte Z97MX Gaming 5 SSD: still not sure which HDD's: lying around HDD Case 1: Icy Dock MB994SP-4SB-1 4Bay HDD Cage HDD Case 2: Icy Box IB-172 Series 2Bay Mobile Rack GPU: GTX 960 iCill X3 Air Boss PSU: Corsair SF450 Monitor: an old Gericom 21.5" Monitor I will take my time with this build, but I will post Photos whenewer it is possible. So stay tuned. I wish you much fun to watch and a big Thank You to IcyDock for providing the HDD Case. Feel free to leave comments and if you have any reccomendations, just comment. So, does anyone have experience with immersion or submersion cooling? I know it's typically just for servers/parallel systems but I see potential in home pcs and honestly I think my next build might be in a tank just for a unique rig. I don't mean mineral oil, I mean stuff like novec http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/NA-DataCenters/DataCenters/Solutions/EfficiencySustainability/ImmersionCooling/

Are two same-model graphics cards able to be told apart if they have the same memory and clock speed, other than aesthetic disfigurations? Just wondering if graphics cards had some sort of identifier in order to track down a faulty production machine.

When I first built this computer, I bought a used i7-950, 12GB of Mushkin RAM and a motherboard for $200 USD, which wasn't a bad deal. The only real problem is that the motherboard I'm speaking of is an ASRock X58 Extreme, one of the ugliest motherboards (Pic) I've ever seen outside of prebuilts and server boards. At the time I was far more focused on getting a working computer on the cheap than I was about looks, and now a few years later it's, erm, charm is starting to wear off. Seriously, who puts copper heatsinks along with plastics with colors including, but not limited to, white, blue, red, purple, yellow, and two shades of orange on a motherboard? But I digress. I've finally purchased a new, sexier motherboard and am about to place the order on a new cpu (waffling between i5-4690k and i7-4790k) and have decided that once I have performance taken care of, I'd like to put a little money into sprucing the old gal up. A few things I've considered are, a new case (mine is more functional than beautiful), braided replacement psu cables, a new paint job on the shroud of my gpu to match my RAM/Mobo heatsinks, and some LEDs to show it all off. I was wondering if you guys in the LTT community had any ideas about other small (<$100 USD preferably) little touches I could add to make my computer not only look better, but also be uniquely mine. I look forward to hearing what you guys come up with! I will be sure to update with some pics once it's looking a little better, maybe end of July, mid august?

Hey everyone, I've been watching the Linus videos for a year or so now and love them, keep up the great work guys. Have also been lucking in the forums for months and have finally got around to creating an account after the Password discussion on the WAN Show. I thought I'd write a quick post as they were suggesting on the WAN that passphrases are the best thing to use as passwords. The problem I've had with passwords for a long time, no matter what format (standard passwords, strong random passwords, passphrases), is remembering what password I have used for what website/service. I am most definitely an advocate of using a completely different password for every single different website. On the low chance that one gets hacked everything else is still secure. The problem with this, even with the more secure passphrases, is remember what passphrase you used on what site. Using the same passphrase on multiple sites is just as bad as using a simple password. I have just started using a clever technique to generate unique, strong, completely random 20+ character passwords that are unique for every site but memorable. But how can WL0Y'QREj7fJzQ8AgJID be memorable? This is where hashing comes in. Hashing can take one or more bits of information and repeatedly hash it into the same string of characters. So the basis of the system I use uses the domain name of the particular website and a secret master key to hash a repeatble password. (The above is a hash of "test.com" as the domain and "test" as the master key). The hash will always be the same for the same domain and master key. This means you don't even have to use any "Remember My Password" services built into browsers these days, instead just use the same master key while the domain changes for each website you need a password. Suposedly these hashes are irreversible so even if one of the generated passwords is found by someone they won't be able to reverse engineer them to your master key. I wrote a quick hashing app that does it for me but there are lots of browser addons that can do this built into your browser, for example the Firefox Password Hasher. For me this is the most secure solution I've found. What do people think of using hashed passwords? How secure are they? Are they actually irreversible?

Enthoo Primo unique custom loop ideas?
Totalledwolf posted a topic in Custom Loop and Exotic Cooling
So, I am planning on doing a wc loop for Phanteks Enthoo Primo. I am interested in what you guys think. I am hoping to do something unique so I am thinking White version of the case and purple coolant. Of course all ideas are welcome. Here is how the white version looks: https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/1005936_796173213731924_602699572_n.png Down here are some of my ideas.Only the tubing that will be seen is shown, everything else should be well hidden. Please suggest other colors, it does NOT have to be this color scheme.Otherwise I was thinking Black case and Yellow coolant,I know not really that unique but it certainly is better than black/red, or black/green. As for acryllic tubing, it is AWESOME but i will be upgreading this rig and that is just to much hassle. Maybe I should mention that I am new to wc but I have done my homework on pretty much every aspact of Water Cooling, and I will NOT make an inferior build just because of it. You could suggest other cases but, i highly doubt there is anything better than Enthoo in 300$ range(if there are I seriously fu**** up somewhere since I have been looking at what case to get since...forever) P.S. Green stuff are radiators, again only what will be seen, so in fact those are 480mm rads, top one would be 40mm thick and bottom one can be...well just about anything. On 6 i was thinking oposite side fitting.- 9 replies
