I'm going into computer science next year and need a laptop, cant be a MacBook. I wont use it for gaming, just for uni work. The course work is primarily coding, so something with a high battery life would be appreciated. these are the universities recommended specs as a guideline: OS: Windows 10 or 11. SCREEN: 13-15.6" HD screen RAM: 8GB minimum prefer 16GB. STORAGE: 256GB Minimum. CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD Athlon X4 740 (or equivalent CPU/processor capable of virtulization). VIDEO CARD: GeForce GTX 660 (2048 MB) or Radeon R9 285 (2048 MB) SOUND CARD: DirectX compatible. budget is a max of $3000 AUD, fine with a little extra if really needed

I recently got my new build up and running with an asus DARK HERO x570 and LIAN LI uni fans after installing all the software applicable for RGB L-CONNECT and asus armoury crate whenever I tick the motherboard sync option on L-Connect my fans max out but my RGB syncs up. I've installed the fixes on Lian Li's website and still have this issue and have set my bios fan settings to PMW and nothing has changed any new insight would be welcome. also on most up to date BIOS revision 3204. Specs: CPU: R7 5800x CPU COOLER: Lian Li Galahad 360 AIO GPU: Zotac Twin Edge RTX 3070 MOBO: ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero SSD: Samsung 980 pro 1tb RAM: 2 x 8gb Team Tforce xtreem @3600mhz CASE: 011D PSUP:corsair RMx 750w

Hi! I recently got the Lian Li o11 MINI, and I want some new RGB fans to show off my build. I want it to look nice, so I was considering the Lian Li UNI fans, but those are WAYYYY overpriced at the moment (MSRP=80 USD, right now they are selling for 150+ USD) Then I looked at the QL and LL fans from Corsair, both of which I am 100% willing to get, but then I saw a budget option, the Lian Li ST120. Only available on Newegg, they are $40 for 3 fans, and I am heavily considering them. They aree the same fans that come with the Lian Li Galahad AIO. So my question: Which one? Wait for the UNI fans to be better priced, get the LL or QL, or save some money and grab the ST120 when the get in stock?

I've almost built my new PC. My first build. Lian Li 011 Dynamic Mid Tower AMD Ryzen 7 5800x RTX 3080 Ti ASUS B550-E Gaming Mobo 500gb M.2 Western Digital 2.5" 1TB HDD 6 Lian Li Uni SL120 fans with controller(s) The issue I'm now facing is what AIO CPU Cooler to buy and how to connect it (and its fans) in such a way as to have all the Addressable RGBs to work from the Lian Li software in harmony. On the other hand, I want my fans to move in such a way as to create the best environment for my internal PC. So my question is, "What is the correct way to connect the AIO either to the Mobo or to the Lian Li Uni fan controller for optimum performance and for the simplest good looks (headers, cables, etc...)?"
-
In my newest build I decided to go with the Lian Li O11 Dynamic with the Galahad 360 AIO Uni fans and the strimmer pro cables for all the rainbow puke I could get my hands on. Everything is ordered and on its way my biggest question is it seems like I'll have some controller overlap with strimmer cables and the Uni fans. I know there is another controller with the Galahad but as I'm not using the fans included I don't think it will matter. My question is if the Strimmer plus cables can connect to the hub on the uni fans or if id have to use the controller for the cables and link it to the motherboard ARGB header giving me two controllers over my desired 1 controller preferred setup.

Laptop For University Software Engineering
Alex_G123 posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hi, I’m looking to buy a laptop ready for university to do software engineering. I would also use the laptop for consuming content every so often and general web browsing. I’m looking to spend less than £1250 (from the UK). I have looked at the M1 MacBook Air with student discount and upgrading to 16GB Ram and the Dell XPS 13 Plus from the refurbished store. I came in here to ask for a bit support and suggestions of what laptops people would recommend for my use case and budget. thanks- 9 replies

This fall I will study mechanical engineering and need to buy a laptop. My budget is around $1500 . Should I find something to buy now? And if so, any recommendations. Or should I wait for any new realeses this spring that might be worth waiting for? I think I prefer around 13 - 14" but maybe not I feel like touchscreen would be nice and maybe also a 360 laptop. Really I just feel a bit lost and would appreciate some help and guidance.

Hi all, as the title says I am looking for a laptop to bring for UNI. I wanna have 16gb ram just for that multiple google tabs and a good battery life also the screen size to be 15 inch atleast or maybe 14 also with a good/premium build quality. I really like the microsoft surface laptop 3 15inch , the build quality is amazing but for me to get 16gb ram it right out of my budget. I could get the 13.5 inch but I just feel its too small for me. Are there any alternatives? My budget is 2200 singapore dollars or about almost 1600usd.

Good program/ webpage for designing a GUI?
Squibbies18 posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
So as part my coursework this semester we have to design a GUI (not a working one just a basic design) based on the retro C++ games that we've already made. My group made a text based adventure set in space so i want the title screen with a planet and the players ship in the background while having a menu at the bottom and stuff like date and time at the top. iI want it to look like the older generation of games were so quite blocky and pixely does anyone know a good program/ utility i can use? -

Living in London looking for a new laptop as mine has died for University (that I start again in 2 weeks) and personal use. I am doing Computer Science so coding and some light gaming once in a while will be my main use for the laptop. As a student I went to check some offers and saw some decent deals on the HP website. However, I am quite unsure on what to get. So I've come here for some help as I have trouble making decisions and previously I have gotten some great advice here (: I have linked a few laptops below that have caught my attention on the HP website as those were the only 8th gen laptops I could find. £700 with discount £650. http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2PN21EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB £750 with discount £680. http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2PN04EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB £900 with discount £830 http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2PH51EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB £1035 3 year care pack (Says 8GB ram but actually 4GB but can be expanded upto 16GB) http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2PH06EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB £1125 3 year care pack http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=2PR65EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB Also are there any other laptops in this range with an 8th gen processor? Thank you everyone in advance!

About to start University in September, going for a more modest budget because I don't want to overspend when I already have my desktop PC. I'm not terribly picky, however, I do have a few requirements. - Decent gaming performance - Doesn't look like shit - Nice keyboard - (Preferably) IPS display What should I go for?

I'm a Comp Sci student, who is looking for a portable laptop, to take uni notes on, and for it to have a decent processor to do some light programming on when I'm out and about and away from my PC, and will also be using it for media consumption as well. I've kind of narrowed it down to 3 options I like the look of, with them being the HP Envy 13, Lenovo Yoga S730 (the Ideapad 730S in North America I believe), or the Huawei Matebook 13. All 3 laptops you can get for just under £1000 currently, with all of them having the i7-8565U, 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. A touchscreen isn't a necessity for me, as I can't see myself really using it for much apart from zooming in on web pages. Also charging with a USB-C would be nice but it isn't an important thing for me either. I'm currently leaning towards the S730m mainly due to the Thunderbolt 3 ports, but all 3 would be good. I'm not really bothered about the ongoing politics regarding Huawei either, as I already have a P30 Pro. I'm just looking for advice really on which one to choose, but if I have left any laptops out that you think I should consider, and advice would be welcome :)

I'm a 22 year old fresh out of college dude, currently working as the only IT guy in a company. I have all the freedom in the world, sadly it's only 20 hours every week, it pays the bills but thats about it. What are you doing right now? Working, studying or maybe trying to make your way through high-school?

Hey guys (and gamer grills) I live in the UK and will soon be going to University (or college for the Americans). I have decided not to take my tower build as it is too big nor powerful enough considering it is 5 years old (fx-6300, 750ti, 8gb ddr3), and i have decided to buy a laptop or 2 to meet my needs. I will need a laptop with a battery life of at least 6 hours but that will also pull in decent gaming performance (or with a noticeable improvement over my tower of a 750ti) I am looking to spend £1200, $1500 or $2000 CAD Please can someone advise me for what approach or even suggest any laptops that i could get I would be willing to get 2 laptops within the budget, 1 with good battery life and 1 for gaming Or A laptop such as a blade stealth that is a mix of the 2 (I think) Many Thanks

My uni course requires: Operation System: Windows 10 (1709 release) Processor / CPU: Intel Core i5 or i7 or i9, minimum 4 cores (QUAD CORE) Memory / RAM: 8GB or more Graphics Card / GPU: NVIDIA Quadro K620 or above. Preferably latest ones such as GTX 980 Ti, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, AMD RX 580, . Currently looked into the dell g3 i7-8750H gtx 1060 for £990 and the dell g5 i5-8300H gtx 1060 for £899. Biggest issues when I looked at the laptops, generally all looked very flashy, the reason why I'm looking into the dell g series. https://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/dell-g5-15-6-intel-core-i5-gtx-1060-gaming-laptop-1-tb-hdd-128-gb-ssd-10182908-pdt.html https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-i7-8750H-Processor-GeForce-Graphics/dp/B07F8ZXF38/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1542887491&sr=8-2&keywords=dell+g3

I've just started at uni in the UK, and the wifi at the accomodation I'm staying at is 5mbits default, with upgrades all the way up to 50mbits for £200 a year. You get given three codes when you move in, for three different devices, and if you get the upgrade then it wipes those codes and they give you three new ones. I've had the idea to find someone with the upgrade who has a code they don't plan on using, and pay them to use it login with to get the faster internet speeds, saving us both some money. Seeing as all lessons are online this year anyway, and the government is still charging us £20,000 a year for an obviously inferior experience, I don't feel too bad doing this sneaky plan. The issue I'm encountering is I can't figure out how to get the wifi to "forget" my computer. I'm assuming it's based on something like a MAC address or an IP address or something, so I was just wondering if anyone here knew how these student wifi systems worked? It basically comes up with a webpage the first time I connected, I put in the code, and now it doesn't come up again, and I'm just trying to find a way of making it forget who I am so it prompts me for the code again. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Heyy, so I will be heading to UNI soon and was wondering would it be worthwhile upgrading my i5 4670K to an i7 4690K? My PC now: CPU\^ \+ AIO watercooler, GTX 1070, 16gb RAM and an ssd and the such with a Z87 Motherboard I wont make the big jump of getting a new Cpu and motherboard and ram since ram is quite expensive now and it would cost less to just buy a CPU but would it really be cost effective? Since I can get the i7 from around 260USD to 350 USD over here Since I would be doing some cad work and such on my Desktop. I would have a laptop with an i7 8th gen. six core most likely, so I figured: "well wouldn't that make your PC redundant if your laptop processor out performs it by a mile?" But then I wonder can't I just buy an egpu enclosure and a tb3 dock and get a laptop which supports tb3 x4 lanes and set up a dock in my dorm for work taking my peripherals and everything especially if the PC has an 8th gen 6 core? My only concern would be storage I'd guess? But would that be covered if I get an external ssd? Mainly for back up file and games really? Ps I'm traveling abroad for uni !! Thanks for reading! Tl:dr : upgrade PC fron i5 to i7 ( still 4cores ) for uni ( engineering degree). Or get a laptop with a hexacore CPU and descent gpu of course and thunder bolt 3 4 lanes and just set up a dock for gaming and work + egpu 1070 and ssd setup?

Hello guys! Currently I'm in the process of solving a c++ programming exercise for uni but can't really find my mistake. The program is supposed to encrypt a text by combining it with a key via the "^" operator. the encrypted string should then appear on the console. However my main function does not execute or take the encrypted variable from the encrypt function to display it. I'm very new to c++ so please be easy with me XD. Thanks for all thhe help! Anyway here's my code so far: #include <iostream> #include <string> using namespace std; string encrypt(string text, string key) { string result; string part; int k; for (int i = 1; i == text.length(); i++) { part = text.at(i) ^ key.at(k); result = result + part; if (k == key.length()) k = 1; else { k++; } } return result; } /* Hier beginnt das Hauptprogramm */ int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { string text = "Dies ist irgendein Text."; string key = "irgendein Passwort"; string crypt = encrypt(text, key); cout << "So lautet der verschluesselte Text: " << crypt << endl; return 0; }

Currently, I've got a server at home that serves as both a webserver and fileserver. I have university next year and I'm not too sure how often I'll be able to journey home to maintain it, so I'll need some guidance on what precautions and preparations to make in-case something happens during that time. Here are the current specs: Core 2 Duo E6320 ASUS P5VD2MX-SE Motherboard 2GB DDR2 RAM (Not ECC) 250GB Seagate Barracuda (Raid 1) 250GB WD Blue (Raid 1) 8GB Sandisk Cruzer Flash Drive (Boot only, logs are saved in RAM and on Raid 1 array) 250W FSP Power Supply 3.5" Floppy drive, unused Currently I can access and manage the server remotely using SSH so that hopefully doesn't become an issue. However, I'm concerned about cooling and general hardware failure. This is what the server looks like (top panel removed) the UPS underneath (link) needs new batteries and was taken out of service a while back Overall view: Cooling: Currently there are only 2 fans running in the system (CPU fan and PSU fan). I turned off the front fan about a month ago, removed a fan I had cooling the hard drives, removed the original CPU heatsink fan replacing it with the larger 120mm fan shown above. The new larger fan is manually controlled using a switch outside the server, and is always on the lowest setting, seeing as the server is in my bedroom. CPU temps have gone up about 6º because of the larger fan, but that's a trade off I'm willing to make given the much lower noise output. I'm considering getting one of those passively cooled Atom motherboards to completely eliminate fan noise though. Now, this is the part where I need you guys' input. What things should I change, parts to add/replace etc?

I have had a browse thought a couple of post already to see if any of them align with what I am looking for but nothing does so have had to make another post about this I'm afraid. So me and my partner want to get a laptop that we can use for our college and uni work. I've taken control of this because I want to try and sneakily get a laptop that is capable of playing games as well. They don't need to run on a high spec but at least run. I have a gaming PC for my hardcore gaming. I'm aiming for around the £500 mark at the highest really. I have had a look at a couple of options already which I've linked below but would like a second opinion and also like to know what you would suggest. http://www.ebuyer.com/737627-asus-x556ub-laptop-x556ub-xx039t http://www.ebuyer.com/755118-lenovo-ideapad-500-15isk-laptop-80nt00duuk# I have also have a brief look at the HP Pavillion and 250 series but never had a great experience with HP in the past.

Hey guys! I am going to university, so I am on a really tight budget. I current have an ASUS ROG GL-552VW gaming laptop, but I really want a desktop to get work done in my dorm. I work a lot faster with a bigger screen and a mechanical keyboard so I really want a desktop. This is mostly going to be used for doing work (emails, office, excel, etc) and playing league of legends. I can bring my pereferals with me even my monitor. I currently already have a spare 500W PSU and a HDD. here is my list! Please let me know your opinions! http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/C8gp8K
