hi all, pretty familiar with overclocking at this point. had everything running solid with my 5900x on a crosshair viii x570 till i went into bios and tinkered with the pbo scalar. initially i was averaging 4.9ghz consistantly, eh around 80watts. of course not all cores going, most were sleeping. whatever, pc ran fine and temps were always at or below 80c under load back to the pbo scalar. so i went into that on bios, hit enable for virtually everything, set my temp max/cpu to 90. then did the "auto" scalar settings to positive and 1. reboot into windows, oh i also set the multiplyer (i normally wouldnt do it this way but fresh\new bios, whatever) to 43.00 anyway noticed under load id fluctuate from 110w to 209w and back down. it would go all over the place along with my cpu temps, obviously. having taskman open i did notice all 12 cores were at the same clock speed, sweet! although with temps hitting 90 and up, uhm, shouldnt my pc "blow up", as in immediately shut off? did a restart, this time did a negative scalar and again, 1 instead of zero. doing '-1' wasnt an option, presuming the '-' character was invalid same result! why is this as i thought a neg scalar would decrease the wattage? either settings were stable. so i let it do some cpu mining as a stress test (nicehash always "blows up" my pc if unstable during a bench). i think it got to 110 degrees max according to the phone app. obviously not ideal but i let it run for idk 6 hours, figured things would balance out since i have so much radiator surface area and a custom block for the mobo/cpu/vrm's etc etc. -why didnt my pc blow up considering my max temp is set at 85? normally if the voltage spikes suddenly (as would temp) say 60c to 94c and back to idk 70c BLOOP pc shuts off -why was so much voltage being pushed to the cpu, even without load? -how the hell was it stable! -any suggestions on how to fix the wacky wattage? -is messing with the PBO even practical considering 4.9ghz runs fine? -really any suggestions at all lol thanks peeps!

Hello! TL;dr: My Intel i9-14900k is running high temps in Cinebench r23 and when trying to undervolt it even just a little bit, Cinebench r23 crashes. But lowering it a little bit sadly doesn't change the temperatures that much. That's why I'm thinking not only to undervolt it, but also to underclock it and I want to hear some opinions or experiences about undervolting + underclocking. Disclaimer: I'm not very knowledgable on this topic and therefore pretty scared of doing something wrong. At the end of November, my 7 year old PC sadly died (pretty sure it was the motherboard because the PC doesn't get any power anymore beyond the motherboard). Since I didn't want to go through the trouble to buy the same motherboard (or something cheaper with the same socket or swap parts around), I wanted to buy a new PC and since it's my first pc since I started working a little, I wanted to go "all out". My PC: Intel Core i9 14900K MSI MEG CoreLiquid S360 AiO Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master X (rev. 1.0) 2x 16 GB G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5-6000 DIMM RAM 16GB MSI GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 1000 Watt MSI MPG A1000G 4x 120x120x25mm be quiet! Silent Wings 3x 140x140x25mm be quiet! Silent Wings Gamdias Neso P1 Big Tower Windows 11 (To the question, why I didn't get a better graphics card: I was considering the 4070, but I'm not doing anything higher than 1920x1080, so I just got the 16Gb 4060 Ti for 475€. Every other Nvidia card was priced very unreasonably). The PC was built by the Vendor; they have a service where they do that for you. My last PC, I was so incredibly scared when putting in the CPU alone that I didn't want to go through that again. Also the cable management was a mess. Of course I did hear, that the newer Intel CPU's run very hot, so I looked at a undervolting guide by JayzTwoCents as well as Panjno. They made it look really really easy, so I was very optimistic going into it. Also their whole comment section said, how they wen to like -0,120V or something and their temperatures went down by a lot. So I wanted to try just that. I got HWMonitor, Cinebench r23 and Intel XTU. I ran a one time test in Cinebench (or 1 cycle? No idea what it's called) as recommended by Panjno, had a score of around 40432, but a temperature of 96°C. I lowered the Voltage to -0,050V, started the one cycle and Cinebench INSTANTLY crashes. I don't even know what went wrong, because people were going a lot lower with their Voltage. But I did what was recommended: Going back with the Voltage by 0,010V, so I did that. Cinebench didn't crash when I reached -0,025V (did the test again later and it didn't crash at -0,015V), but the temperatures were still at 92°C. I watched JayzTwoCents video again and in the beginning, he changes 2 - 3 options in the bios for it to work. Since I'm scared of the big unknown bios (to me it is at least) I made pictures of almost everything except Fan Configuration Settings and tried searching for the options he mentioned. Since the board is in german, it was a little harder, also his board was by Asus, which made it even more hard. The weirdest thing though was, that there was no "Default" mode for the CPU. The Gigabyte PerfDrive has 5 modes or something like that and the board was in the "Optimization" mode, which makes every core run at full power (I think; I also thin it's the second highest mode?). There is only one mode, were it has unlimited power, but it says you need custom water cooling for it. Since the bios settings didn't change much, I tried to change the Gigabyte PerfDrive from Optimization to "Spec Enhance", which apparently can lower the temps as well. Upon running Cinebench I couldn't even really go down to -0,010V without the programm crashing. What I did then, since you can apparently save profiles on the Aorus Master X and the vendor did say that they did a little bit of tuning (but no idea what exactly), was to reset to its default options. My PC then sounded like a jet engine when opening a programm; it was so loud for no reason suddenly, but I could go down to -0,050V, but for some reason the temperatures were even higher at 97°C (score was 40758). And there, I'm pretty sure the vendor just did some minor fan tuning, but I found nothing in the CPU Fan section of the motherboard, so no idea where they did it. I do understand that Cinebench is the extreme case and that this is not your daily thing. So I just started playing some games. I played some League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Honkai Star Rail, Genshin Impact and Need for Speed Unbound as of right now (don't have everything else yet) and the CPU temps never went above 85°C in Unbound and ~75°C in other games. Which is good, so currently I don't have to fear running into higher temps while I try to figure things out. I want to use my PC primarily for gaming; I do enjoy playing games on emulators though. Furthermore I'm interested in A.I. image generation or stable diffusion. My old PC's CPU was really strained when generating an image with a model (~85°C) and when I imagine this CPU doing something like that, the 100°C will be reached easily. I also want to dabble into making some videos, but that's a little further down. When the rendering process goes from let's say 30 minutes to 35 or even 40, that wouldn't be that big of a deal to me. If it went to over 45, that would be troublesome for me. But I'm not really interesting in squeezing even the tiniest bit out of my PC. My goals are stability, longevity/CPU lasting a very long time and low/adequat temperatures. I know a lot of tech people hate the concept of future proofing or having something for a long time, but this is what I'm after. If it'd be possible, I'd really like it if my PC would last me another 7 years (my pc before that also lasted a long time). I was also always a big fan of intel CPU's; my friend is an AMD fan, but I saw his CPU's die very quickly, after 2 years roundabout. But I never had any problem with Intel's. Until now. So that is why I want to underclock and undervolt it. Since I have never done it and there isn't really much info about underclocking in conjunction with undervolting, I wanted to ask about a it a little in here first. I don't want to dabble with it in the bios, I want to do it in Intel XTU. Like I said, I really fear the bios. Currently, the performance core ratio is at 57x and the efficient core ratio is at 44x. With what should I go down first? I want to underclock and undervolt it, but I don't want to bottleneck my own system. Like I said, I'm not really interested in squeezing everything out of my PC, but I also don't want to make it completely bad. But then again, my first priority are good temps and undervolting so I don't get scared once I do something more processor intensive or have to swap out my CPU in 3 years. Any advice would be appreciated!

I’m trying to underclock my cpu it’s been getting up to 77-80 degrees on r6s and starfield and I tried underclocking it in bios to 4200mhz but it kept crashing so I tried using amd master I thought I put it in eco but when I ran a cinebench it got to 83 before I stopped it. I messed with fan curves and it’s helped a little but I don’t want to mess with anything more until I know more. Part of what I’m trying to figure out is should I underclock or undervolt or both and if anyone could help me with it

Hello good people. I have discovered this weird thing and I hope that you guys can help me understand. Namely, I have two profiles in Ryzen Master, one for gaming and another one with low clock speeds for low voltage and lower temperature and I am switching between them depending on what I'm doing. Profile 1: 2825MHz @0,975V Profile 2: 4475MHz @ 1.25V One time I forgot to switch profiles when I was gaming, at that specific moment and place I had 85FPS, but when I switched to gaming profile the FPS dropped to 75! Does anyone have any idea how HEAVILY UNDERCLOCKED CPU actually boosted my FPS by 10? Here's a YouTube video I've uploaded as a proof: System config: GPU: RTX 3080 CPU: R5 5600X MOBO: B450 RAM: 2x3200MHz CL16 OS installed on SATA SSD Games installed on NVMe SSD WinVer 21H1 Edit: I can confirm this happened right now in another game dropping from 93 to 80 ** Thank you in advance!

Laptopl: Acer Nitro 5 AN515-55 SNID: 11002133634 CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz (4,20 GHz max) RAM: 32 GB @ 3200 MHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX3060 (85w) Windows 11 Home x64 BIOS version: V2.06 So like the tittle says, my CPU is underclocking when under stress, I've had this problem for quite a while but I've been able to work around it, but I'm getting tired of the random FPS drops when playing games. I've recently updated my OS to Windows 11 but I've had this problem for around 6 months or so while using Windows 10, it started with weird underclocks right from the computer start, the clock speed would lock at 1,80 GHz but after a restart it would go back to normal, and after 2 weeks or so the problem was gone, a month after, whenever I would start any resource intensive app (even games like War Thunder that only make the CPU usage go to 60~%) the speed would go from 4,20 GHz to 3,70 or so and stay there, restarting the PC wouldn't fix it anymore and it's been like that for 5 months now, updating drivers, cleaning and updating the RAM as well as changing the thermal paste didn't work, also tried to change the settings on the energy plans and no fix either, I've noticed something weird tho, the fan speed on the Nitro Sense app seems to be quite slower for he CPU, although I don't think this is the problem, the CPU used to go up to 90° when gaming when I bought it, now it rarely gets to 80° or 70°, because of this the fans rarely get to high speeds on their own too, but as shown later on this post, a single core seems to be hitting higher temperatures than the others, which isn't shown by Nitro Sense or any app that gets the temperature of the CPU as a whole. Another weird thing is that even tho the CPU reaches it's max speed of 4,20 GHz the speed seems very unstable, jumping from 3,90 to 4,45 and inbetween constantly, these screenshots were taken seconds apart from each other Now here's a screenshot of the CPU being stressed by CPU-Z. As soon as the CPU hit 100% usage the speed dropped to 3,70 and slowly kept going down to 3,60, after 1 minute went down to 3,50, but as soon as the stress test is stopped this happened: The speed picks up as if nothing happened, weird behavior was noticed in the voltage used by the CPU, and using Core Temp a single core seems to go up in temperature very quickly Running normally Not even 1 second after stress test starts If anyone knows how this problem could be fixed, please let me know

I tried installing sudo apt install cpu-frequtils via this post but Pi coudn't find the package. I want to Limit the CPU frequency to reduce hear output, I added a large heatsink for passive cooling. But I also want to test out if reducing the frequency helps, because all im doing is uploading/downloading stuff from and to my External HDD attached to the Pi as I use it as a NAS. Thanks

Hi! While I was looking to upgrade my GTX 730 I found post on one forum about used Asus Strix GTX 1080 Ti. It’s owner says next: ” Card has a problem. In demending games it crashes sometimes, I fixed that by underclocking memory and core (for 502 and 400MHz, max that MSI Afterburner allows). I am using like that more than 6 months and it acts normal besides that it hasn’t same performances as 1080 Ti anymore. Searching for a problem I opened it, cleaned it and changed thermal paste by better one. Card earlier was reaching near 2GHz but now it goes to 1500Mhz. Here you can see photos of testing GPU after underclocking with MSI Afterburner. HW Monitor was turned on while card was tested where you can see max tact of core of 1439MHz and memory 5003Mhz, also max temperature while card was tested of 66 celsius degrees: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMJjHL6de59Fod4ESm6RFtTCSpHHshi4RiHkvqLhZzoFthti959V6U9096vn0Ychg?pli=1&key=dl81eFVNa01UMG13SzFLdnhORjJQUVhzOU9YVWx3 First test was at FurMark on 2K stock preset (2560x1400) where is test finished with score of 5564 points and average FPS of 93. Second test was -3DMark Time Spy where card got Graphics score of 7946 which is lower of avarge 1080Ti (9400) but slightly higher than classic 1080 (7000). On graphics you can also see stable load and core clock of card while it was tested. https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/63747158 In demending games, on room temperature of 28-30 celsius degrees, max that card reached was 74 celsius. Price: $300” Since I am young and unexperienced, I just turned 16 and started entering world of computer tech, I would like to hear opinion of more experienced people. Should I buy this card?

I have a Dell inspiron 15 7000 gaming 2017 core i5 7300HQ with 16GB ram and Nvidia GeForce 1050ti. last 6-8 months I’ve noticed some weird behavior whenever I'm in a game or a program that requires GPU too my game/program starts to slow down and get un unusable (in games it gets down to 1-5 fps and some weird sounds from headphones). Before testing anything Or benchmarking first thing that came to my mind was its thermal throttling and because its been 4 years I thought if i change the thermal paste it might solve the problem. So i did and it didn’t help but the temps are now in low 70s and high 60s when under heavy loads (before it was mid 80s and high 70s). i used AIDA64 to stress test the laptop and stress testings CPU didn’t effect the clock speed it was fine in a stable 3093MHz. But when I checked the (Stress GPU) option and ran the stress test the GPU was fine but the cpu was at 800MHz! Just like before me changing the thermal paste. Does anyone know what this is all about please help

Hi Linus, I've been your faithful viewer since I know your channel few month ago. Your review helps me understand more about PC system . I've been trying to ask about the performance of underclocked and overclocked GPU. For example MSI 3060 ti Gaming x trio and Zotac 3070 twim fans. With MSI gaming trio i can overclock 3060 ti to perform closer to 3070 performance with higher power draw, but msi is known for its silent fan. But I think I can limit power of 3070 so, it can perform closer to 3060 ti with less power draw and with cooler gpu, and zotac known for its loud fan. I am planning to play AAA games 1080p with maxed settings(with ray tracing of course). Currently I'm Using intel core i5 10400 with MSI B460m motherboard, 16gb of ram with, with thermaltake 650w psu, 75hz 1080p monitor. I am planning to upgrade CPU and add more monitor in the future. With this setup, which one should i buy between 3060 ti gaming x trio and 3070 twin fan(planning to apply power limit or it will bottleneck the cpu on some games), because they are basicly nearly costs the same in my country. Thanks for the response

So I've been having problems with my M6700, it's randomly turning all the screens a solid colour and freezing. from my googling it appears to be VRAM related and because the GPU in it (MXM RX 480) is definitely unofficial and has to have a modded vBIOS to run I'm not surprised it's that. I downloaded GPUMemTest to see if that had any issues and sure enough when I run it there is a ton of artifacting all over the screens. I had already slowly lowered the GPU mem clock from 1250 MHz to 625MHz (as low as it lets me set it) hoping that that would help. However, this is where it gets interesting... On a whim I decided to set the mem clock back to 1500Mhz (the clock the vBIOS sent with the card has) and sure enough all the artifacting immediately stops and I haven't had any solid colour crashes yet (though sometimes It happens every few minutes and sometimes it doesn't happen for a day or 2 so I'm not completely sure that solved it. Anyone ever had problems from setting the memory clock too low? I'm just confused as to how that could possibly cause issues. 20201022_042317_1_1_1.mp4

Increased the ratios of my cpu + ram to get lower temperature, i also activated TPU II from the ASUS app. When ever I try to change something from the TPU section of the app it gives me this pop up! Not sure it's a problem or not but even with it giving me that warning it still does what I set it to in the TPU profile.

I will be buying the ryzen 7700X for my new pc and I really don't like the fact that I can boil me some tea on the CPU when it's under load nor am I fun of spending more than twice as much money for electricity for the CPU for a little bit of extra performance... Why don't I go with the 7700 then you ask?? Well it's 30€ more expensive On top of that, I heard that if you try to undervolt the CPU a bit to make it perform similarly to the 7700 you void the warranty Is there any way or a tool to auto tune the 7700X performance without voiding the warranty?? The Bios I will be using are that of the asus TUF Gaming B650M-Plus motherboard.

I bought a used red devil 6900xt and I'm planning to use it with my current build which is Ryzen 3600 and Corsair CX650 PSU. My monitor is 4k, so I think I don't need a new CPU. In my country entry level B motherboards for 7000 series Ryzen are more expensive than a 7600x anyway so I'll skip it for now. I have quite a few things that might be a problem though: - I only have 2 (6+2) power cables, the GPU asks for 3 (6+2). - I have seen quite a few people saying they run this with 650w, but still it seems to be near the limit. - Would like to undervolt, but it's my first time. Most posts I've seen use undervolt + oc, which is a bit different than what I need. The reason being saving money because energy is very expensive here. Don't mind losing a few fps. What I'm asking with this post is anything I should know or do, that would help, other than really just buying another PSU. So far I only changed the mV with Adrenaline to 1090. I ran Heaven Benchmark and it is fine. Will be downloading some games next to help with testing. I hope all of this, running with 2 cables instead of 3, playing with mV and all that is safe.

Goals Low power utilisation Super quite Play warzone at 70+ FPS when need. The above two goals wont count when playing. As you can see i have aging guts which i built 4 years ago just as a under the TV low power/super silent HTPC to watch youtube,1080p movies, IPTV and general family browsing station. To this day it works perfectly fine with no issues and at times when i have had the itch to play some basic games like Garys mod, its great. But to cash in on the aging parts before they are worthless and satisfy my new itch to play warzone, I have been thinking how to repurpose my Node 202 case to something that is still low power/super silent HTPC and yet have a decent GPU to play warzone like games on high settings and achieve 70-80+ fps. That after a lot of thinking & research i came across underclocking, which makes a lot of sense for me, as i am assuming i could have decent CPU/GPU/RAM but keep it underclocked until i need to play something like warzone. This would possibly meet my goals. Having said that i was thinking of a Ryzen 3300X with a RTX 2060 build but am clueless to know for sure if i can achive my goals with a build like this or am i over powering it for no reason. Not sure what mobo or RAM i would need either , or if i would have to worry about slim case fans to disapate GPU heat. At times i have thought about just adding a RTX2060 to the current build but I think my current CPU/RAM would be a bottle neck.

I am building a Tablet PC based on AsRock H110TM-ITX and currently I need to choose a CPU. My initial plan was to use a low power i5-6500T, but currently I have a very good offer for i5-6600K. Thing is that the first one is merely 35W compared to 91W for the K chip. I know for sure that stock 6600K will blow out of the water 6500T and I was wondering, would it be possible to downclock and undervolt the 6600K or use Windows/Throttlestop to make the 6600K chip reach a maximum of 35-50W TDP. If that is possible, how much of a performace loss will that result in - would it be still faster than 6500T? Other things that bother me: 1) The motherboard is non-Z and I have no idea if voltage and frequency control are possible. 2) If possible, would this downclock load the voltage regulators excessively and shorten the lifespan of mobo? 3) Is this even worth it or go with 6500T instead?

Almost everyone who uses custom built rigs are always overclocking their components - cpu, gpu, ram, Printer? maybe? haha. But do you undervolt/underclock? I know it will reduce some performance, but do you?

Hello Linustechtips. Recently I have been getting crashes whenever my computer is running something that requires power. What I have experienced Whenever I play a game, the game crashes after a few minutes and my fans are making a lot of noise. I can play some games, League of Legends as an example, but not CS:GO, Fifa, for honor, or any other games. If I play League of Legends while watching a stream, it also crashes. What I have tried to test the problem with I have used MSI Afterburner and MSI Kombuster to stress the GPU and when I do so, the test crashes when my GPU usage is at 100%, temperature is usually around 70-80 here. I have tried lowering the resolution in games like CS:GO and Fifa, and it works in CS:GO when I set my resolution to 600*400, but it doesn't work in Fifa. What I have tried to resolve the issue Rebooting the PC. Cleaning the PC from any dust inside the case. Updating the driver. Playing without a driver. Specs GPU: GTX 670 CPU: i5-3570 RAM: 8gb PSU: 550 Watt My problem I am not quite sure what my problem is, but I believe it to be my GPU based on my tests, but I don't have a deep knowledge or understanding of hardware so I am not sure. I have google a lot, and it seems that the PSU, RAM, and CPU could also be a problem. Any help is appreciated, as I need this to be fixed as fast as possible. If it is my GPU, what GPU would you recommend me getting? Been looking at 970 and 1070. Thanks in advance.
