  1. My primary display is starting to die. It works fine then randomly flickers, goes blank, etc. Before it dies completely I want to get a new monitor. I'm currently running a dual monitor setup, but I'm looking for some input from those who have used both ultrawide and dual monitors. 1: Can you run an ultrawide like a dual monitor setup? For example: I've got Youtube, Floatplane, Netflix, or w/e else on the second screen while gaming on the main one. Can I split an ultrawide down the middle (or into thirds) so I can still do this? 2: Performance hit or bonus? I'm running a 4080 Super, but I live in California where electricity cost is insane. Has anyone noticed a difference in power draw and/or FPS for dual monitors vs Ultrawide while using it in situations like Question 1? 3: If you've gone from Dual Monitors to Ultrawide what has your personal experience been? Positives and negatives. 4: If you run an Ultrawide setup and have used multiple Ultrawide monitors what is something you've learned to watch out for? Any Surprises? Thanks for anyone who reads and responds!
  2. Kind of a rant but also want some feedback if anyone else has dealt with similar issues. Also let me know if not allowed, just kind of salty and wanted to share my experience and see if anyone else has had a similar one. I purchased a Samsung 49" Neo G9, it arrived DOA, Samsung sent a tech out within two days to look it over. The tech figures the power control board was bad and he replaces it. Monitor powers up and I get it setup and start gaming. About an hour in I notice it has a stuck pixel. Uh-oh. Try all the massage techniques, the works. Bright pink stuck pixel, so out of curiosity I pull up a solid white background. To my horror I find not just another stuck pixel but eight more stuck/dead pixels. Four of which are a whole group making a black/grey blotch. They weren't super noticeable because I literally use everything in dark mode. So I hit up Samsung support again and they say they'll send the tech back out within a few days to replace the panel. Ok, fair enough. I continue playing around with the monitor and it's features, enable infinity core lighting, LEDs are dull as hell, whatever, no biggie, figure it's just how it's supposed to be. Enable picture sync. Switch monitor to PBP to play some tarkov(was working perfectly fine before). And boom. Monitor makes a popping noise and black screens, trips the VGA light on my computer. Have to hard reset both the monitor and the computer as well as disable infinity core lighting to get it to properly display again. So infinity core lighting trips a power surge I guess if I try using it with PBP. Ok, great. So I email Samsung and they say that it's not supposed to do that. Say they're just going to send me a brand new monitor for my troubles. Wait a week and a half, no new monitor, no updates. Get sick of waiting and call. Samsung rep says they are out of 49" Neos and for the hassle and to relieve my issues as quickly as possible has approved sending me a Odyssey G9 Neo 57". Ok cool, yeah I'll take a free upgrade. Well, fast forward to yesterday, two and a half weeks of waiting for the 57" to be delivered via freight. Shipper inspects it for damage, good to go. He takes the old 49" with him. Get it all setup, it was a hassle, need a bigger desk, thing is huge. As I am enjoying an actually pretty solid visual experience playing some RDR2 I see it... A big ole patch of dead freaking pixels in the bottom left. Wtf. This is a brand new unopened, freshly manufactured monitor. And it's MSRP is $2499, huh. How the hell do you get a cluster that large of dead pixels and not see them in QA checking? Blows my mind. So again, back to Samsung, I am now having to wait another two weeks(not sure on exact timeframe that's just how long it took last time) for a new 57" to be shipped out. Honestly, just pretty disappointed, Samsung's QA must just be slipping?
  3. Hello, I want to buy a monitor, and I found these two, but I don't know which one to choose. If someone has experience with either of them, could you share your experience? I've watched some videos, but I still want your opinion as well. First is iiyama G-Master GCB3480WQSU-B1 (cant find it on amazon sorry) Second one is Gigabyte G34WQC A (probably this one LINK) If you think that both of them are the wrong choice, feel free to recommend a different one, but I have some requirements: 1. 34 inches | 3440x1440 | 144Hz/165Hz/180Hz 2.I don't care if you hate ultrawide monitors; I need one. Yes, I already have one at work, so I'm familiar with the aspect ratio. 3. I know my price is quite low, but it should have really small ghosting and response time. I understand that these requirements are high for that price range, but still, if you find something with a 180Hz refresh rate but noticeable ghosting, then I'm not interested. (165Hz < less noticeable ghosting) 4. My limit is 400€ and here EU market. Thanks in advance
  4. Budget (including currency): upto $300 (AUD) Country: Australia Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Office work Other details: I currently have 2x 27" monitors, and looking to get an additional/3rd monitor, however it'll be ultra wide between 44" to 49". The configuration I'm looking for are the 2 x 37" Inch monitors at the top, And the Ultrawide on the bottom as my main. I can only seem to find 1x monitor arm per 1x Ultrawide. Or 3x monitor arms at upto ~32" inch. Can anyone assist finding 1 monitor arms that supports 3x of the mentioned monitor sizes? I'm looking to spend upto $300 AUD. Thx in advanced.
  5. I have been rocking a triple monitor setup with vertical side monitors for the better half of a decade. A couple of years after getting it my father tells me out of the blue that he has had that same setup in his office. After going into detail about how passionate I am about such a setup, he tells me that several of his colleagues are using it as well. Anyways, ultrawide monitors start being a thing and obviously I want one, and obviously I also want it to have picture-by-picture so I can effectively get the triple monitor setup I am used to out of a single ultrawide. Here we are so many years of innovation later and I have yet to find a single ultrawide monitor that offers the PBP mode I want… The 1-2-1 PBP mode There are so many advantages to this that I fear listing them because long lists are cringe. I'll name two obvious ones though: That PBP in general is a godsend for ultrawides because not all games look good in a 32:9 aspect ratio, so I would much prefer to get double the fps from rendering half the screen size. And that most PBP modes available today effectively force you to have your fullscreen application running on either half of the monitor instead of dab smack in the middle of it. I have never tried gaming like that but I can only imagine your neck gets really sore quicker than your partner starts telling you you promised to play for only 5 minutes hours ago. Am I alone in this?
  6. Hello Linus Techies, I've recently added a new Smart monitor into my PC set up which I can watch content on and doesn't need to be connected to my PC and drawing resources from my main display. But I don't want to use the built in speakers. I want to link the smart monitor into my PC so the audio is routed to whichever output my PC has selected (headphones or speaker). I'm using a Sonos soundbar which connects to the Digital audio out on the back of my motherboard as I don't have an ARC rated HDMI on the motherboard. I tried using a splitter on this and connecting the smart monitor the same way, this didn't work. I also tried a USB - C to 3.5mm Jack cable into the back of the motherboard which also didn't work. Does anyone know of a way I can achieve this? Thank you, Joseph
  7. Hi! I have had my LG 38GL950G for a while now (since late 2019) The fan(s) has started to make a hissing/high pitched sound, only when the monitor is on. As i don't use headphones when i am at my computer it gets really straining after a while. I am super happy with the monitor and am not really looking to change. So i was thinking of opening it up and changing the fans both the cooling fan and the G-sync fan. to something a bit more "quality" and quiet. I have been looking online for and have seen people do this but not to the G-sync fan. My fear is that changing the G-sync fan can brick the monitor. Has anyone done this? am i better off just starting to use headphones than going through all this trouble? Any advice is welcome! Thank you!
  8. I'm considering to buy this monitor for daily productivity (mainly programming) use. I would like to hear opinions from other people who have this monitor, or other 34" ultrasharp series. I've been looking on reviews but couldn't find more than few that were not so much useful. The only con I see so far is that it has 60Hz refresh rate. I would personally like to have more because it is better for your eyes if you sit 8h a day in front of it, but since I'm not gaming this should be good also. How is the text quality and sharpness, is it sharp enough and good for reading, coding whole day. Are there any problems that I should be aware of? I've found it for pretty reasonable price (550€). Feel free to type your experiences
  9. Does anyone have experience with the samsung odyssey G5? The ultrawide 1440p 165Hz version (1000R curve). It's a VA panel so I don't know what to expect, some say VA is really bad with the smearing and some say it's not that bad. Currently running an LG 29inch ultrawide 1080p 60Hz IPS monitor. The deal I could get on the samsung is €300. 2 other options are the AOC CU34G2X (VA, 1440p, 144Hz, 1500R curve) at €289 and AOC U34G3XM (VA, 1440p, 144Hz, flat panel) at €299 Recommendations? What about the different curves? Or the flat panel? For me, right now it's a shot in the dark
  10. Wanting to upgrade my monitor. Never had an ultrawide and I'm torn on these two. Any advice or suggestions? I know the LG one has HDR but the MSI one doesn't. I'm leaning more to the LG MSI- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08S8W3MMM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1 LG- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B928B6BC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
  11. If anyone owns 27inch 2K(2560x1440) monitor and 34inch ultrawide curved (3440x1440), I would be really thankful if you could tell me these things: 1) Is 34 one better for productivity use (programming mainly)? 2) When you compare both on 100%scaling, are the icons and text smaller on ultrawide or is it same as on 27 or maybe bigger? 3) How much is 27 one taller? 4) Which one do you like more? 5) What models of both do you have? Would be great if there is anyone who can compare me this, currently been having 27 2K for few years, and thinking of making a transition to ultrawide 34inch. Any photo comparison would be good to see also.
  12. Hello Recently starting want to change my monitor into 21:9 curved monitor. Mainly using is for sim-racing, mostly driving iRacing and Assetto Corsa Competizione. My budget is below 500 USD, so I would like to know if there is any recommendation and what I have to be careful at while choosing the monitor. Thank you in advance and have a nice day.
  13. I have a new 5120x1440 Ultrawide monitor with picture-by-picture mode. I have two computers hooked up to it, my gaming rig and my work laptop. My gaming rig works perfectly with the monitor, switching to 2560x1440 when in PBP. My work laptop displays fine in 5120x1440, but when I turn on PBP mode it maintains its resolution and the image is scrunched into half the width. The laptop is a Dell Precision 5540 with Intel graphics. After researching the issue, I tried downloading Intel's Graphics Command Center and setting the Display Scaling to Custom, but this caused the whole image to go haywire and I had to restart the computer to get things back to normal. At a redditor's recommendation I looked up the max resolution for my laptop (which is hooked up through a USB-C dock to the monitor via DisplayPort) and found the following: Supports maximum resolution DP: 4096 x 2304 u/60 Hz, 24 bpp Option DP: 4096 x 2304 u/60 Hz Option USB type-C Alt mode: 4096 x 2304 u/60 Hz Option VGA: 1920 x 1200 u/60 Hz Option HDMI2.0: 4096 x 2160 u/60 Hz So it looks like my resolution is not technically supported, but I've gotten 5120x1440 to work anyways, so I feel like I should be able to make it work in PBP too somehow, right? Please help if you can, thanks!
  14. . I've had my Samsung 49" Odyssey OLED G95SC since launch, and I've been having an issue. I've never used an ultrawide before, so this might be user error. My rig is a i7 10700k, msi rtx 3070ti gaming x, and 32gig ram. windows 10 When using it at 5120x1440 and display port I get real bad, with lack of a better way of putting it, screen tearing. I can be just on a google document or watching a YouTube video, and the screen just starts shacking and tearing. When I'm on HDMI it gives me static every now and again. The strange thing is when I have 2 cables coming off my GPU, one display port and one HDMI, at 2560x1440 it works fine. I have reset the drivers in safe mode. updated everything. used different display ports, and cables. I don't know what else to try. Since the screen works fine in Samsung hub, with an xbox hooked up running 2650x1440, and my gpu running two cables and multi-window what could be the problem. Is my 3070ti really not strong enough to run it at native full resolution. Could every cable I have be bad, including the one samsung provides and the main one I use on my 1070ti set up? Or could it be windows 10 being....well windows. If anyone knows what could be going on it would be appreciated. screen freak out.mp4
  15. I need direction in this post and with monitors. This is most likely on of the first ever forum post. I am nervous since I don't do this much and Linus may already have a video for this exact topic. Please forgive me if that is the case. I feel like I'm a pretty tech savvy person but I have no clue when it comes to monitors. I struggle to grasp what type of monitor should be used for what type of activity (Gaming, Video Editing, Graphic Art) I mostly would love to know what size is "most common" - Maybe specifically what size are most games designed for or programs are designed for. I also would love to know what are good options for each monitor size (I don't need cheapest I would just like great quality for the money. Top of the line is not interesting for me since I dont plan on breaking the bank)
  16. I have a lot of doubts. I have a rog Swift 27" 1440p/144hz for 8 years now and I want a decent upgrade. (34" max) First thought is AW3423DWF but it’s OLED and I’ve read that it’s requieres a lot of care. I mean, I have a black desktop, I can hide the icons and the bar. I browse twitch and play games for 2-3h then I leave for another 2-3h so could enable the auto turn off screen, then play for a couple hours more. After that, I turn off the PC and the píxel refresh stuff runs while monitor is on stand by. All of that would not be a problem. That's what I understood. Also, is it hard to calibrate? Do I have to enable the HDR in Win11 settings or it will auto pop up when a game can use it? Do I need to touch anything in the nvidia control panel? That's my first thought, would cost 1000€ in the official website. Second thought is the LG 34GP950G-B, not OLED so no worries here, worse HDR, understandable. That would cost 1200€ in Amazon (third party vendor) Are there better options? Tips or tricks? Thanks
  17. I am genuinely disappointed in how little progression has been made in UltraWide Display Tech in the past few years. More than 5 years ago, I bought my current Asus ROG 34" 3440x1440p 100Hz monitor for $699.99. Now days it seems the same money barely gets you the same features plus maybe HDR and an upgrade to 144 or 165Hz and honestly Im not sure if I even want to do it. Sure, my new Radeon RX 7900-XTX is easily blowing right by 100 FPS even at Ultra settings, usually delivering 130-140 FPS, but people forget that what your eyes see versus how the game responds are two completely separate things. Running 120+ FPS on a 100Hz monitor is slightly beneficial as the game can feel ever so slightly better and your actions have less input lag. And 100Hz is more than enough for your eyes anyways. On top of this - the ROG display is incredibly capable - even with games that run at 200 FPS and beyond, I see no screen tearing of any kind. This Asus ROG display is already an IPS 1ms response panel, the only downsides are that Im blowing by the maximum refresh rate with ease (and yes the display is already OC-ed, stock out of the box its a 90 Hz display), and this is a G-Sync only monitor so I can no longer use variable refresh rate tech. But I can enable V-Sync in games to limit FPS anyways and your eyes don't really need more than what I already have. I usually just enable a custom FPS lock of 120 and just enjoy a smooth experience at completely maxed-out Ultra-Everything Settings hardly ever seeing the FPS drop below that 120 limit. But I kinda want to upgrade just to better utilize the power of my new GPU and maybe for AMD FreeSync and possibly HDR compatibility and thats about it. As far as I can see, there are only two options currently available that fit the bill for a similar price - The LG UltraGear 34" 3440x1440 144Hz (160Hz OC) "AMD FreeSync 2.0" Nano-IPS 400 Nit Curved IPS Gaming Monitor - HDR NOT officially supported - $699.99 - BenQ EX3415R - 34" 3440x1440p 144Hz (MPRT) "AMD FreeSync Premium" HDR-400 Certified, Curved IPS Gaming Monitor - $799.99 Wow, so 5 years later and almost no progress for the price you pay. So should I just wait another 5 years and maybe eventually a decent option will show up for a decent price, or just go ahead and save for one of these options and just deal with the poor value? Of course I could sell the current monitor to make up for some of the price difference but I won't realistically get more than $250-$300 for it at best. I was genuinely expecting to find 34" IPS Panels at 3440x1400p 144Hz with HDR for under $500 considering its 5 years later and 16:9 1440p displays have already moved beyond 240Hz and you can get a 240Hz IPS 2560x1440p panel for like $300. By the way, I have no interest in 4K - and before you ask - its because yes, I am aware that there is basically ZERO improvement to the human eye going from 1440p to 4K unless your eyes are less than 18 inches from the screen on a standard-sized monitor under 50". Plus I enjoy UltraWide gaming and 4K UltraWide (5120x2160p) will probably be too much for the XTX if I want High refresh rate (which I do, I prefer at least 90 FPS and am completely happy at 120 FPS).
  18. Hi guys! I've been having problems with my monitor lately. Everytime I turn the monitor on or I start up my PC after a long while, my monitor has these weird horizontal lines running down the screen. My monitor is a ROG PG348Q. This next bit is really where it stumps me. The flickering only occurs on max refresh rate (100 hz) and I usually have to step it down to 94.99 or 89.96 so that the problem disappears. There are also times when my PC has been on for days (2-4 days straight), the flickering disappears when I try to set it back to 100hz. Any ideas on what's wrong? I haven't tried any solutions yet. 20230705_140528.mp4
  19. Hi, I got a 5120x1440 120hz 49' ultrawide monitor and want to connect it to my M1 macbook pro. Im looking for a USB Dock that supports the monitor at its max resolutions and frequency. A dock that also has a few usb 3.0's and usb-c's, supports charging via the dock and has SD card reader. Is there anyone that can recommend me one? Help is much appreciated. Thanks
  20. Budget (including currency): <4500 CAD for entire build. Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: No Mans Sky, Autodesk Fusion 360, AAA games Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Hello, I'm looking to build my first desktop! And in a mini ITX form factor. I usually use laptops, current using a Zepherus Duo 15, with a 3060, and Ryzen 5800H I really love it, but I'm looking to replace it with a desktop as I'm no longer on the road working away. I mostly use it for Fusion 360 and gaming. Currently displaying on an older 49" samsung ultrawide (1080p version). Currently with my laptop I do find that playing games such as No Mans Sky, I definitely can not get even 30 fps on ultra with the larger resolution. I'll knock the resolution to 1080p and get by. When using Fusion I find that many operations especially nesting operation take for ever if they finish at all. These are larger projects. My biggest issue I'm having right now is determining what kind of GPU and CPU to go with. From what I understand Fusion is both CPU heavy for CAM computation as well as GPU heavy for rendering. Honestly I'm fairly unsure what kind of GPU I'm looking for, especially with the large monitor resolution (3840×1080), which I'll upgrade some day to a higher resolution. Even with the CPU, I'm not sure if AMD or Intel is better suited for Fusion. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if you can point me to some information! Thanks, Jesse
  21. Well the question is in the title, but if you want the full story here you go! I recently had my current monitor broken whilst rearanging my room. It was a LG 29UM69G-B 29.0" 2560x1080 75 Hz Monitor which has since been disconntuined. And im consdiering on getting an upgrade rather then just a replacement. Ive already picked out the monitors im looking at, both for a replacement and an upgarde. Im just not sure if my GPU (RTX 2060) could handle 1440p ultrawide. Im not looking for massive FPS but if its at least above 60FPS im happy.

  23. Currently using an ASUS VG245 at 1080p 75 hz it runs fine but i found a good deal on an ultra-wide LG 29WN600-W which is still 1080 75 hz but supports displayport as well as my graphics card. Would it be worth taking the extra cash to get a display port? will it affect much or should i just continue to use my HDMI cable and not waste the extra cash. If there are benefits what would they be?
  24. I have been making a basic game in unity I like the simple pixel art as an aesthetic I would like to be able to lower the resolution (vertical so it supports ultrawide) to give it that aesthetic It may not be the best idea, but help the question unless you have a better solution
  25. For a while now I have been using a dual monitor set up, one being a nice new one and the other a crappy old one, I am thinking of upgrading the older monitor for a new better one, Than it occurred to me I could just have a single Ultrawide monitor and have possibly a bigger screen and for cheaper depending on the monitor. however I use my PC for gaming and work, so I usually have a game on one screen and everything else on the other, I am not too sure if the ultra wide would let me do something like that. Could someone help me decide and lay out the significant pros and cons?
