Hey guys, can anyone tell me if it's possible to copy UHD / 4K BluRays with the above mentioned player/burner? I never copied a BluRay before and don't know if there is a difference if it's just 1080p or UHD. Thank you

Hello, I'm looking for a media PC that supports 4K UHD out and allows me to decode 4K video files from my NAS, and decode the stream from steam in home streaming. Size isn't a factor, cost is. Recently moved into a larger space and my TV is no longer right next to my PC. I'm guessing machines like this have gotten quite affordable, but I'm very much out of the loop. Any suggestions, and maybe things I should look out for? Thank you

Hello! I recently purchased a new PC monitor: Dell P2415Q (4K, UHD, 23.8”, 3840x2160 @60Hz). This monitor is amazing! It has crystal clear image, with great colour accuracy, good contrast, and the best monitor stand I know of. SCALING IN WINDOWS 10: •As you can imagine, the display is being scaled by Windows by default at 200% (recommended), so items won’t look too small. •All Windows 10 & Microsoft Office tools will take advantage of the scaling immediately. •New programs will take advantage of the scaling immediately. •Some programs won’t take advantage of the scaling by default, but they can be fixed by editing program properties, and changing “High DPI settings” (example: Propellerhead Reason v5.0). •Some older programs won’t work well, no matter what. They’ll either look big & blurry, or clear & tiny (example: Nullsoft Winamp v5.66). Overall, the 4K experience is a positive one. It’s a forward move. PS: I hope this will help someone...

Hello, I am planning to upgrade my 8years PC to a new one and can't decide on a monitor to get. Graphics card target 7900XT or 6950XT so AMD FreeSync would be a must. I am still in a crossroads between 34" ultra wide UHD and 42±43" 4k monitor. I am more an a MMO RPG/RPG or ARP games guy - thats why i'm targeting lower refresh rate monitors but with higher resolution. Please help me decide by writing your experiences if you had any playing such type games on those types of displays! If anyone can suggest something that are BIS of both types between 500±1000$/€ would be awesome! I would prefer 120 Hz+, my room is kind a dark, not much sunlight at all so brightness isn't that important. Also curved screen for a ultra wide would be a priority (idk why, looks cool .. maybe) P.S I have been crushing 2x27" 144 Hz monitors to date. Love it, but want to try something new. Thanks for any advice in advance! Cheers!

Hi There I'm looking for a good monitor recommendation. I want it to b ether 27 or 32inch it can be 28 or 31.5 but between 27 and 32inch. I would like it to be 2560x1440 or UHD (3840x2160) I'm more keen on UHD but given i want at least 120hz i know UHD in 120hz can be expensive. I want an IPS panel, with good color and if it was able to do HDR that would be good to. 1ms GTG would be ideal but im not an esports person so if it wasnt thats still fine aslong as its got a good response rate. G-Sync compatible is fine so AMD free sync that works with NVIDIA cards would be good. I don't care about the monitor mount as long as i can mount it to a 100x100 VESA mount. Couldn't care less about RGB on the monitor. 27-32inch monitor 2560x1440 or 2840x2160 120hz or faster dont care about 360hz 165 max would be more then enough. IPS, Good color and HDR with 1ms GTG or close to it. VESA mountable. If you have a good recommendation and first hard experience with the monitor that would be good. Thanks

Hi all, I'm really wanting to upgrade my multi-monitor solution to a single 4K (3840x2160) display... But I want to get the right thing. I've currently got three Dell U2312HMs in portrait running Nvidia Surround - I used to use them with Eyefinity before I upgraded. I love these monitors and can't cope without the larger screen area. These give an equivalent screen size of 42" at a resolution of 3240x1920. Switching to one 4K monitor will remove the bezels and increase the screen-space I have - and more importantly, the usability. An important thing for me is that I don't want to use scaling; I want native 4K. I'm not really sure what size screen I want, but the options that I have seen that should be suitable are: 32", 40" and 43". 32" would be on the limit for using without scaling - but I think I would be happy with that. What do you guys think about usability without scaling on 4K @32". 40 and 43" would probably be a good size, perhaps too big as I'm thinking I might want to downsize slightly (though space is not an issue). The only really important factors for me are the panel type and the extra utilities of the monitor. I need IPS. I've used it for over 5 years now and I cannot stand any monitor that isn't IPS. I've had two laptops with horrible screens (including my current one) and used many monitors elsewhere that just don't look good. I need USB ports because I've got so many external devices. They don't have to be USB3 but I imagine most are. Ideally, I'd like a 4-port hub but the more the better. Ideally I'd like 120Hz, but I'm pretty sure the technology and interfaces aren't around to handle that yet. For those thinking that I won't run games at that frequency anyway, I mostly play lightweight games and with the demanding games I'll just put up with the lower framerate. What I've found that sorta fits the bill: 43" Dell P4317Q Acer ET430KW - This monitor only exists here as far as I can see - and there are very few details. Anyone know anything about it? Philips BDM4350UC 32" Acer Predator XB321HK Acer BX320HK BenQ BL3201PT Philips BDM3275UP Asus PA328Q Dell UP3216Q Asus PA329Q Now I don't want to just go out and spend £1200 on the PA329Q just because it looks like it's good - but if it genuinely is the best, I would definitely think about spending that. Gsync.... Not something I've ever used but everyone spouts that it's really, really good. Should I definitely get a monitor with it or should I not factor it in too much? TL;DR and final notes: Which 4K, IPS monitor should I get for general, multimedia and gaming use? Are there any monitors that I should avoid, bearing in mind that I want to use this for a considerable amount of time. What would you guys strongly recommend? Thanks for the help in advance.

I just got an LG 31MU97 and want to run it 4096x2160@60 Hz plus my old monitor (Kogan 27" Cinema Display) at 2560x1440@60 Hz. I have a GTX 760 to run it. I won't be gaming. According to NVIDIA, it can run 4096x2160@60 Hz over DisplayPort, which I have successfully tested with only the LG connected. However, when I connect the Kogan over DVI, the LG defaults to 3840x2160@30 Hz and the Kogan runs at 2560x1440@60 Hz. Playing around with custom resolutions in NVIDIA Control Panel, I was able to achieve 4096x2160@51 Hz + 2560x1440@60 Hz. Is there something wrong with my setup? Should my GPU be able to run 4096x2160@60 Hz + 2560x1440@60 Hz, or is there some sort of bandwidth limitation, even though both resolutions are below the GPU's max? If nothing's wrong, will a GTX 1050 Ti be able to do what I want? Thanks

I'm looking at purchasing a new monitor in the next couple of weeks and I'm having trouble choosing a 27" 2560x1440 144 Hz monitor and a 28" 3840x2160 60 Hz monitor that can also do 1080p 144 Hz. About 3 months ago I got an Acer GN246HL and I was pissed to discover that it would only do 144 Hz with a dual-link DVI input (my 480 has no DVI output). I was happy with the quality of the TN panel though. My budget tops out around $500. I plan on using an overclocked 8 GB RX 480 and I plan on purchasing at least an 8 GB Vega card this year. 2560x1440 is about 77% more pixels than 1080 and shouldn't be crazy hard to drive. Plus it can do 144 Hz. Pretty straightforward. This MG278Q looks great with the stand that can do height adjust and pivot, but it's expensive enough I'd have to wait for a deal. Is there a 28" 3840x2160 monitor that does 120+ Hz at lower resolutions? What would you suggest? Or is there a 2560x1080 widescreen monitor that also does 144 Hz? If only I had so much money I didn't have to choose. Edit: Looks like the only 2560x1080 ultrawides that do 144 Hz are 34" or 35" which the wife says is too big.

Choice between 4k or 1080p Lenovo y700
TemperedHelix posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
I have to choose between the y700 4k and 1080p model and I am honestly not sure what is the best choice is because ,I worry the screen on the 1080p model may be poor comparatively, but better native support for programs and better battery. Any help would be greatly appreciated are there any major disadvantages of just scaling the display down to 1080p? Thank you guys for the help -
Source: Engadget As the title suggests, the first UHD Blu-ray optical drive for the PC is about to be shipped form next month onwards. Please note: Anyway, back on topic: Pioneer has announced 2 models of optical drives to be sold, the: BDR-S11J-BK and the BDR-S11J-X (Very attractive names there ) These will allow those of us on the PC to watch UHD Blu-rays. It comes with a copy of Cyberlink PowerDVD which is one of a few programmes out there that can actually decode Blu-rays - and the newest 4K UHD ones. BUT - there's a catch... Much like with Netflix 4K - to be able to watch UHD Blu-ray, you MUST have the following: A Windows 10 based Machine HDMI 2.0a connection that's HDCP 2.2 capable AND - A 7th Generation Intel KabyLake processor... WHY???? Why do we need such DRM that forces users to upgrade a perfectly working machine just to watch a new Optical Standard... (One a plus side, you don't have to use Edge for this - so that's a bonus.) There is no announcement of prices yet for these 2 drives, but since they are capable of reading and writing Blu-rays. (only reading for UHD ones) - they might be a little more expensive than regular Blu-ray optical drives. (I'm going to guess around £80 - £90, any more than that and they are nuts.) My thoughts? Again, why make us upgrade a perfectly working PC to just watch the newest optical standard? Is it just DRM or do we need the encoding of the CPU? Your Thoughts? Please leave them down below!

I'm considering a 4K 144hz monitor with G-sync at the end of my semester (June time frame). I already have a triple screen setup of three PB278Q's at 2560x1440 at 60hz but I've had it for a while and I personally think it's time for an upgrade. I want to upgrade, at least, my center monitor to a 4K at 144hz and Asus' monitors has been pretty reliable in my experience. I was thinking of getting something along the lines of what Linus just showcased on the channel: Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions? Recommendations?

Hi! (look at my profile picture) Been using a Samsung U28D590D for about one and a half years. It was a good monitor for a reasonable price and i loved it. But last year it began to give me a problem where the display flickered and turned on and off constantly so I RMAd it. Now i'm getting a chance to upgrade to a better monitor since Samsung damaged the item while it was in their care and I got them to give me a cash refund for the full 560 dollar purchase price! So i got a few options for a monitor upgrade For my gaming machine running a Palit GeForce GTX 980Ti SJS. 1. Acer Predator XB281HK (28", 4K 60Hz , TN panel, 1MS, G-Sync enabled) - Fast 1Ms response time due to TN panel but sub-par color reproduction and viewing angles. __________________________________________________________________ 2. Dell P2715Q (27", 4K 60Hz, IPS, 6MS, No G-Sync) - Great sharpness due to high PPI from smaller size and amazing color reproduction from IPS display but 6 times slower with a 6Ms response time. Also, 1 inch smaller than what i'm used to. __________________________________________________________________ 3. ASUS PB287Q (28" 4K 60Hz, TN Panel, 1MS - No G-Sync) - TN panel again, which means faster but less accurate colorspace. But no G-Sync so this is almost the worst choice of the three monitors. But much cheaper than the other two. __________________________________________________________________ .... Any display gurus wanna give me some advices? I am very familiar with the specifications AND the pros and cons that those specifications present. What i wanna know is which of these options will look and perform the best in the real world. Things like would i notice a 5Ms slower response time, or do i really need to have high viewing angles or super accurate color reproduction...etc.. Thanks SO much for your help! <3

Greetings LTT community, I have a project I am working on in which someone I know wants to change their display configuration. What he has currently are 3 white 32" Spectre monitor/TV's that run at 1080P but the clarity is crap, and the guy is dissatisfied with the way his setup currently is. I mentioned to him that I could probably upgrade his setup by bumping up to a 4K monitor, and now he is ready and roaring for me to come up with a solution because he is complaining about eye strain... Whoever chose these monitors did a poor job of researching their capabilities and so he basically has 3 sh*tty monitors that run his mega super setup. He has indicated that the middle monitor should be the one with the highest resolution and that the monitors to the sides and top won't matter much since his focus would mainly be on the center high resolution one... but it has to fit in between the ones he currently has, AND he wants me to set up a monitor mounting bracket array so that they all float above his glass desk instead of using the legs that they all currently sit on. I've thought about this configuration quite a bit today... I'm not really sure what to do. He is a stickler for his current theme... glass tables, white/silver/gray peripherals, stainless steel and glass towers, and white monitors. Of his 2 stainless steel/glass cases, one hosts a server, and the other hosts a beefy ass setup with 2x GTX 1080's in SLI and some high end i7 cpu. These two GPU's drive his system so that he can edit things with AutoCAD and because of it he is willing to throw another $1000 at a solution here, the challenge is that I have to come up with an elegant solution that works. I spent a couple hours researching all these different monitors, the particular size that he wants is 32" there's no budging there, and the white or silver bezel adds to the difficulty. The market is rather limited for this particular size, a lot of no name brands on the cheaper end (perfect pixel) or some insanely expensive household brands (asus, dell). I thought about getting him into an ultrawide monitor since I truly believe it would really kick ass... but he doesn't want that. I could use some suggestions as I really don't want to choose something that's also going to be crap, I want to be able to give this guy a rock solid solution and any suggestions would go a long way so I don't waste his money either. I hope the diagram doesn't get butchered when I push submit here, but this is the end result of what this guy wants... (1080P) (1080P)( _4K_ )(1080P) -MC

source: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4457 there are other caveats too: SLI is not supported - video cards must be unlinked if you have more than one display connected, all of them must support HDCP 2.2 or the stream will be reduced to 1080p although Pascal based video cards were launched 1st, and nVidia made a selling point that they fully support Netflix UHD streaming, Intel was the 1st HW vendor to actually provide Netflix UHD playback with their Kaby Lake CPUs since this "preview" requires an insider built, it's most likely that the capability is not baked into current retail version of W10 and would be added later with an update of sorts

A Full-fledged copy of the 4K UHD Bluray release of The Smurfs 2 has been posted on private tracker ultrahdclub.org The member who posted it, one of the most prolific uploaders on the site, claims this release was achieved through cracking the encryption of the drive itself and not through the more common HDCP stripping and capture method. How exactly this was achieved right now is not known, however the fact that UltraHDclub staff have verified the upload as such seems to lend further weight to the uploader's release. It's too early to tell right now, but we should have a definitive answer as more people get a chance to analyze the release. I realize this post doesn't follow normal news formatting, but since the source is a private tracker that doesn't allow sharing content with the general public I can't just copy paste the info from the release or a screenshot of the site. Edit: the full file list of the release has been published and it indeed shows all the BMDV/STREAM/xxxx.m2ts files typical of a blu-ray dump rather than the single .mkv from a normal rip. Edit: 2nd source:

So I have been looking at this monitor for a little while and unfortunately Linus hasn't covered it as far as I know so I wanted to gather some opinions on it! What do you guys think of this monitor?

Hi guys, I'm really hoping someone can help me here because I've run out of options and I created an account just to ask this. I just built a new HTPC with the following specs: Mobo: AsRock Fatal1ty Z270 Gaming-ITX/ac CPU: Intel Core i5-7400 RAM: 8Gb DDR4-2133 Samsung EVO 850 SSD 512Gb The Motherboard has a HDMI 2.0 connector, fully compliant with HDCP 2.2, and is currently connected to a 4K LG OLED TV using a brand new, thick HDMI cable. As far as I've read, the above combination of hardware SHOULD be able to play back 4K 8bit/10bit HEVC files that I've 'acquired' flawlessly - but it doesn't. 4K video files are basically unwatchable, and despite Task Manager telling me that the CPU is only under ~35% load and RAM is only 25% utilized, I still can't get my files to play back flawlessly. I've done the regular thing and updated all Intel VGA drivers, tried a variety of codecs and downloaded about a dozen media players - all produce the same disappointing result. So now I have zero ideas left, and to be honest, feeling really depressed. This was the entire reason I built this system, and I was assured on multiple fronts that it would be able to play back 4K files due to Kaby Lake's native HEVC decoding. Before anyone suggests buying a GPU - please don't. At least, not unless you specifically tell me why I need to spend another $200 when this hardware should be more than capable of playing back these files. Thanks in advance for your help!
