Hi, I bought a 30,000 mah PD power bank which provides 65W of power to my laptop. But when I plug it into the Thunderbolt 4 port, it powers the laptop for the first second, then the power bank charges itself via the type C port. How can I prevent this?

Damn my head is gonna explode now, what a mess is type-c and all of it's alternate modes. I have a laptop with Kaby Lake R (no thunderbolt only type-c 3.1) and all video ports go through intel hd620. Dedicated HDMI on board is only 1.4, but I need to connect via HDMI to my TV with 4k 60hz HDR . So I bought two cables: type-c to DP cable (for tests) and a type-c to hdmi cable with PS176 LSPCON from parade. So 4k 60 HDR is works fine with DP on my monitor with 4:4:4 subsampling, but with hdmi cable HDR doesn't show up and subsampling looks to be as low as 4:2:0 or 4:2:2. Is there any chance to get it working with HDMI with another cable and different LSPCON, or i'm out of luck here?

Hello all! I am planning to purchase an AMD laptop which has really decent specs but it doesnt have a Ethernet port. It has USB 3.2 however and I was wondering if I could use a type - c to Ethernet dongle for it. The question is, will it work? I couldnt find an answer. I have heard it works on intel as it has ThunderBolt. Thanks in advance

I am looking for an external HDD with 8TB, but I can't seem to find one that does not have the old micro usb b connector, which I would like to avoid because it is a terrible connector and type C seems to last much longer. If anyone has any advice for some good external hdd with at least 6tb or more I would appreciate. I wanted something similar to one of these Western Digital Elements Desktop External Hard Drive WD My Book Desktop

Hi y'all, I want to use motherboard built in Type-C port to have a HDMI adapter hooked to it. Have 3 monitors and already used HDMI and Display port. I've bought a Type c to HDMI port and none of my monitors recognize it! I confirm adaptor works. I tried with my phone and monitors to screen sharing.... I'm struggling to find any solution that can help me out. been reaching out in other forms but no replies. Any advice guys! Thanks! My config: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7rw43Z

Hello person, I hope you’re having a fantastic day! Here’s how my days (and money) is going: I have been having some USB problems with my newly built system. I have a NVMe to USB 3.1 Gen 2 enclosure that I use for work to edit with video and I have a Oculus Quest 2 that I play on using a 3.1 Gen 2 cable. Both of these were working fine, until one day I plugged in my NVMe and Premiere started to freak out. I went to Task Manager and the drive showed that it was at 100% Active Time, but there was no read/write nor was there any latency/average response time. My immediate thoughts were that it could be: 1) Need to update BIOS 2) Need to update Chipset Drivers. So I did both. Still no luck with the NVMe. I got tired of diagnosing for the day so I decided to hop on my Quest to relax and have some fun. Plug it in to my USB 3.1 Gen 2 port so that I can get Oculus Link working. I open the Oculus program and it shows that my Quest is "Connected and Active" so I go on my headset to enable Quest Link and as soon as I open it, a notification pops up on the Oculus software saying that hardware could not be found. It kept doing this over and over again. No worries, I'll just reinstall the Oculus software and hopefully it'll reinstall the drivers. Downloaded a fresh copy from Oculus's website and it still gave me the same problem. I've been dealing with this now for about two days. After I tried to update all of the chipset drivers, all of the oculus drivers, and not being able to just find USB drivers for it, I decided to install a fresh copy of Windows. Issue persisted. At this point I'm thinking that it's a hardware issue. I plug in my NVMe to my laptop and it worked perfectly, I plug my VR into my laptop and once again, it worked perfectly. At this point I'm thinking that it's the motherboard because both of these have worked before on this board. I got another motherboard today in hopes that it would fix my problem and nothing. I'm starting to think that it could be something with my CPU(?). My specs: MOBO: MSI B550 Gaming Plus (first board I thought was having USB malfunctions) and a ASUS TUF X570-PLUS (new motherboard that I bought today) CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x RAM: G. Skill 32GB @ 3200MHz SSD: Samsung 970 Evo, and 2 Crucial MX500's in RAID-0 GPUs: Sapphire RX580 and EVGA GTX 970 At this point I'm looking for any help. I'm willing to upload any videos, logs or anything else to show what problems I'm having. Thanks so much for reading my novel lol, Daniel

Are these a thing yet ? there are plenty of 5gb/s type-c drives but dont seem to be able to find any 10gb ones. I'm trying to find essentially the fastest small flash pens you can buy for use at work, so money no object, anyone know of anything like this ? It feels like external media is a bit far behind at the moment, i would have thought we would be getting 10gb/s external nvme sticks by now right ? Or do they need to be on the PCIe bus or something ?

Hello. I only have a type-c and hdmi 1.2 port on my laptop (ASUS GL552VW). I recently bought a 144hz monitor for an upcoming build but in the meantime I want to use it with my laptop and I am wondering if a usb 3.1 (type-c) to displayport adpater would work?

Are there any thunderbolt 3 enclosures for windows that are cheap? should I even bother? Dont know if there's a better place to put this, just wondering if there's any point in investing in eGPU enclosures and whether its financially viable. I've been researching it a little bit but I figure this is the forum to find this stuff out.

I just got a new phone, and the connector for it is a USB-C. Now of course it came with one, but I could use more/longer ones so I can maintain cables plugged into my Type-A wall/computer ports and just plug the phone in whenever I need to. I've never dealt with the company before though, and I know the crappier Type-C cables can be terminated incorrectly and cause bad things to happen to phone and/or charging apparatus. The one in particular I was looking at is here: http://www.link-depot.com/portfolio/ld-usb3ac-bk/ But if you have any other recommendations for where to get one of the same type/general length, please let me know!

I have a monitor that only has DisplayPort, DVI, and HDMI connections. However I have been using it with Type-C - DisplayPort adapter to my new macbook pro 2016. I want to buy a new desktop PC with Ryzen CPU to use it with my current monitor. If I choose the new motherboard based on the availability of DisplayPort, then it will give me only few motherboards to choose. I don't want the motherboards that only has HDMI port as it only support 30 hz refresh rate. When I see my new macbook pro connected with the monitor with Type-C, I also see that some of the new ryzen motherboards have USB Type-C ports but no DisplayPort. For example http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty X370 Gaming-ITXac/ (wonder who would use the 2 HDMI that only supports 30hz). This motherboard got a Type-C port but no DisplayPort. So my question is that can I use the Type-C port on the Ryzen motherboards as a video-out? Even with the DisplayPort-Type-C dongle? Will it reach 60hz? Anybody is currently using this setup? If this is possible, then I can widen my options. Thank You

I can't work out if the HP EliteBook 840 G4 Notebook has the ability to be charged via the Type C port. Is charging something thats standard as part of the Type C specification? Am I missing something?

Hi, again I am really confused with peripherals and usb-c, I hope someone can help me. specifically I am looking for: the smallest possible formfactor motherboard (down to mini-itx) where I can connect 1 Display (at least Full HD), 2 HIDs (USB 2.0) and 1USB 3.0 device over one connector. So I am looking for one connector type that can carry the mentioned signals. Thunderbolt 3 can obviously do it some USB-C connectors can do it, but what do I have to look for? (it is not always clear which features are supported on a specific device) can a USB 3.1 type-A connector do what I want? (I don't think so, but asking just in case) Additional requirements are: 1x PCIe x16 slot, 1x M.2 slot, 1151 socket It would be great if someone can help me with my questions and maybe point me to a board. Thanks a lot.

Hello, I'm fairly new to the forum, but have been watching LTT and all other channels for over a year now. I'm getting the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G (was on sale for $20/month for 24 months) to replace my iPhone 6s. I have a docking station at home that connects my monitor and peripherals to my work laptop. Would I be able to plug my phone into the docking station to charge and use the peripherals, or would there be potential harm due to the power of the docking station? I figured this would be the way of the future where for basic computing needs you can just plug your phone in and use desktop mode, but I'm worried about damaging the phone/battery. Thanks for your help!

I want to be able to charge all my devices with a single usb-c cable. If i were to buy the: Samsung galaxy note 10+ (45w) Galaxy book s (45w) Galaxy tab s6 (25w) Galaxy buds (idk) Sony wh-1000xm3 (7.5w?) Could i then charge the laptop, phone, tablet, headset and earbuds using the same 45w charger (that samsung will be selling for the phone and laptop) to charge every device. I guess it would work just fine and i know that you can most of the time charge high speed supported devices with slower chargers at slow speeds, but can i SAFELY charge my low speed supported devices with a high speed cable. Will the devices regulate the input so that it only draw as much power as needed and not more which wont damage the battery over time or maybe even overheat or start a fire

I am planning to buy think pad e480 [ [ https://www.lenovo.com/in/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-e-series/ThinkPad-E480/p/22TP2TEE480 ] ] , It has a USB type-c port but on the website it's written only USB-c , my question is that whether will i be able to both charge the laptop with the included type-c power brick and also connect something like HDMI over the same port using some sort of adapter. I remember that apple mac book 12-inch has only one type-c ( which is not thunderbolt ), and apple says u can do both data transfer and power the system at the same time. Will i be able to do the same [ I know i am not going to hook an external graphics card ], but does this port have the same functionality as of apple mac book

Source 1: https://www.overclock3d.net/news/input_devices/thunderbolt_3_becomes_usb4_-_intel_contributes_thunderbolt_3_to_create_usb4_specification/1 Source 2: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/usb4-thunderbolt-3-40gbps-type-c,38736.html Source 3: https://www.theverge.com/2019/3/4/18246182/usb-4-thunderbolt-3-specs-features-release-date (The Verge, Personal bias - avoid...) In a shocking and (somewhat) unexpected move, Intel has decided to contribute its Thunderbolt 3 standard the USB Promoter Group (The people who design the USB Specification). This will essentially allow Thunderbolt 3 to become the new standard for USB (Still based over USB Type-C, Thankfully), and will also make it fully backward compatible with USBs previous standards: USB 2, USB 3.0, USB 3.1 and the recently renamed/announced USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (Confusing much?). It will also provide Twice the current throughput of the current Thunderbolt 3/USB 3 Type-C at a rate of 40 Gbps, compared to the current 20 Gbps on USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (I hate that naming scheme so much...) New Quote Added: The reason was given for this generosity, seems to be a pure market move, more than that of willingness. With the upcoming Intel 10nm node, Intel plans to integrate Thunderbolt 3 directly into their processors. Which should mean a much wider adoption rate over the current implementation of Thunderbolt 3. The Downside, however, seems to be for AMD. Since it will be baked into the 10nm node, that means it could put AMD at a disadvantage until they come up with a way to support the new USB 4 standard on their platform. The entire USB4 specification will be published around the middle of 2019, along with an updated specification for the USB Type-C specification, in an effort to updated power requirements (possibly a higher power output over the cable, or maybe a way to discern cables that don't meet spec?). One this is for sure - that it can be expected that the new USB 4 standard will more than likely be based on the Thunderbolt 3 standard. My thoughts? Well, it's cool and really amazing. The lack of Thunderbolt 3 for consumers on lower end products is extremely lacking. Hopefully by integrating it into the USB 4 specification will lower (possibly remove) the royalties that Intel claims and can make the feature much more widespread. Again, the downside I see to this is for AMD. Would they be able to license the new standard or will they have to come up with their own specification for USB 4 without Thunderbolt? Only time will tell. Either way, I'm really excited about this news. Your Thoughts? Please leave them down below EDIT: Aditional Images (taken from Toms Hardware & Overclock3D, provided by Intel) UPDATE #1: Thanks to The Benjamins for this. I'm pretty sure something similar has already been covered but none to clear my query, my apologies in advance. I've a Razer Blade 14 17-7700HQ with 1060GTX. I have an acer monitor that supports 144hz with Freesync. I can't turn on my freesync as there is no option available. The only way I can connect my Laptop to the monitor is Type-C to DP (in Monitor). AS I understand, HDMI anyways does not support Freesync with Nvidia. How else can I connect to activate Freesync, or is it actually impossible for me to do so because of the limited Port options I have? Monitor - Acer VG270P 27 inch IPS Monitor. Thanks in Advance

I'm wanting to get a case with a USB-C port on the front panel and a motherboard with the internal USB-C front panel connector in order to connect to an Oculus Quest 2. I'm wondering if this connector can power and charge it. Would also be useful to charge a laptop easily. What are the USB Power Delivery specifications on this connector, if it has any? Also, is there Power Delivery on back panel connectors?

Is the front header of the Tomahawk compatible with the connector on the H510? The one on the Tomahawk is Gen 1 while the H510 has a Gen 2 connector... I can't find anything online about the connector (don't know what to call it xd). If their connectors fit... I'm assuming it should work but with Gen 1 speed? Answers I'm looking for: Will the H510 connector fit on the Tomahawk? If it does... at what speed? Are there any major feature I'll lose from Gen 1 to Gen 2 aside from the speed? (idk... not a usb guy... thinking being able to power a monitor with Gen 2 and not Gen 1? xd) P.S. This is my first forum post... sooo sorry if I posted it in the wrong section... also I did it on my phone sooo idk if the layout would be fine (gonna try to make it organized as best as I can)
