So I've been dealing with this issue for a while now, and given how surprisingly helpful this community has been so far, I thought I'd make a post about it and see if anyone has had similar experiences and/or has a solution. So, the issue: My headset is a Turtle Beach Z22, and I've had it for probably a couple years now. It works great for me because I can use it with both my PC and my Xbox One. However, when I upgraded my PC to Windows 10 (a pretty much forced upgrade after my PC would no longer function properly with Windows 7), I noticed that a good number of the headsets functions no longer worked. The in-line volume, bass, and treble dials all became useless, and somehow the chat volume dial became the master volume dial. To cap it all off, the headphones will just randomly cut out and go silent anytime the volume of whatever media I'm consuing drops below a certain point. For example, if a song as a quiet fade out, my headphones will simply go dead silent once it fades below a certain point. The only work around I've found for this is to play everything at elevated volumes using the in-app (iTunes, Netflix, YouTube etc.) volume sliders, which is a naturally imperfect solution as I have to turn the volume back down whenever things get louder to avoid damaging my hearing. Is this all because of the Windows 10 upgrade, or could it just be that my headphones are dying and need to be replaced?

OK. Disclosure: I know I'm right. I'm just trying to figure out how to tell my stubborn friend that he drank the kool-aid and doesn't know what he's talking about. Unfortunately, my rational arguments have fallen on deaf ears and he's moved on to insulting and trolling, indicating that the discussion phase of the argument is over. He's trying to convince me that multi-speaker headsets, like the Turtle Beach AK-R8 or the Zalman ZM-RS6F, impart directionality information of the sound to each ear independently. He says, "our ears pick up on real sounds differently than synthetic positioning. If I didn't give you any visual cues with a 2-channel headset and had a synthetic sound play behind to your right, you wouldn't be able to tell exactly where it was coming from. Conversely, if I had real surround sound in a room or like with ANY one of those headsets I just mentioned, you would be able to tell exactly where it's coming from because of the way the sound reflects off the shape of your ears, your brain already knows what it's doing with this." and , "Yes, with 5 speakers for each ear, the shape of your ear and the location of the speaker (for that particular ear cup) is what imparts directionality of the sound." The Horror... The Horror.... I'm trying to argue that multiple speaker 5.1 or 7.1 surround headsets use technology to trick your brain (sometimes very well) into thinking that this virtual surround is actual surround. This is done through complex sound imaging by the game or by the sound card. One ear covered by one ear cup cannot provide significant sound direction. It it not at all like 5 speakers and a sub in a large room. By putting on an around-the-ear headset, you isolate each ear and reduce your input to 2 channel: one for each ear. Therefore, sounds must be provided to each ear with varied echo, volume, delay (latency), and other processing in order for your brain to think that you're in a surround environment. People with severe unilateral hearing loss have terrible spacial audio perception. Kids with unilateral hearing loss, for example, cannot play Marco Polo after taking their hearing aid out to get in the pool. If his argument were true.... A pair of these 5.1 surround headsets would impart magical audio to their single ear during a game to let them hear the directionality of the sound. I didn't even get into discussing sensorineural vs bone conduction on this one.... What do I do or where can I have him read to help show him that 5.1 surround headsets must use virtual surround from either the game or the sound card to provide the much-loved directionality Battlefield 1?

Hello all! I use this headset for my ps4 https://www.amazon.co.uk/XP7-SEVEN-Xbox-360-Headset/dp/B0099R6MNY Recently ive noticed a noise coming from the headset when the game volume is at 0. The headset works by plugging the console interface into the ps4 then adding the audio control unit to it via USB and multipin, you then connect the headset to the ACU via a wire with 3 slits on it, Looks like a 3.5 m jack. I tried the headset on two PC's and its the same buzz, even when the volume is at 0. Can anyone point me in the right direction, If you need more info ill be happy to reply asap thanks

I am currently on my third pair of Turtle Beach x12s and it is currently being held together with tape. Every time I get them they last about a year to a year and a half then they break at the plastic above the right ear cup. They are really comfortable and sound pretty good for the price. I have yet to receive a complaint about the mic quality either. Turtle Beach x12s are the only gaming headsets I have ever purchased.(Not considering a couple days ago when I purchased Sades A60(s)/OMG. They were comfortable and sturdy, but were so atrocious in mic quality that the day I received them, I shipped them back for a refund. The sound quality was not as good as the x12 either.) So like I said above, my current x12s are breaking and I need a new headset. I have been researching for a headset for PC gaming and have decided on two others. Those headsets are the Logitech G430($40) and the HyperX Cloud Stinger($50). I cannot decide on buying the G430, spending $10 more for the Stinger, or just buying my fourth pair of x12s($39). I was wondering if some of you can share your opinions to help me pick one, or suggest another gaming headset around the same price. It would be great to explain why and give reason to your opinion, but you do not have to. Like I said earlier, my headset is breaking right now, so it would be great to get help ASAP. Thanks! TL;DR: Which gaming headset should I get for PC gaming, the Turtle Beach x12, the Logitech G430, or the HyperX Cloud Stinger? If you have another suggestion around the same prices, let me know.

Source: https://www.guru3d.com/news_story/roccat_purchased_hy_turtle_beach.html Been using Roccat Peripherals for about seven years now, and absolutely love them for various reasons. Own two Roccat Kone XTDs and will probably continue to use them far into the future. I hope that QC doesn't drop because of the acquirement, and if anything, Roccat becomes even stronger of a brand.

I've been trying to solve this dilemma for months. Well, I gave up the last time. I have a Turtle Beach XO xbox headset (or whatever model?) And I wanted to hook it up to my pc for gaming. I was told just get a one female to two male 3.5mm audio splitter, so I did. They even said a TRS splitter would work. So, headset into female, one male into audio jack in, one male into mic jack in. THE ISSUE: The mic doesn't really work! When I say "really" it's because it is very low quality... for example when using voice recorder. But when I increase the mic levels and boost in the windows > sound menu, then I can actually get a recording in voice recorder. However, the mic does not work on speech recognition or games. SO - came on here, went on computer audiophile - they said I need a TRRS splitter - not a TRS. Is this correct? I don't see why it matters if the headset (speaker) and mic are being split into two separate channels? And why does voice recorder pick up my voice? (Although with some static) That is my main point - why TRRS if the speaker and mic are being split into two separate channels? Are the audio & mic jacks on the pc rear and front IO panels TRRS? I can't find specs. You see the photo below where I drew a diagram showing the headset TRRS cable going into a TRS extension then the 3.5mm TRS splitter. Maybe since the headset is a male TRRS plug, the female part of the splitter has to be TRRS to match - then TRS x2 male plugs out? That would make sense, I guess. Or do the male plugs out have to be TRRS as well? Please help!

Hey everyone, In this tutorial, made by Turtle Beach itself (link below), they are explaining how to setup the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 for the Playstation 4. One thing that I didn't understand about it was at 4:42; They let the 'output to headphones' on 'Chat Audio', instead of putting it on 'All Audio', what you would expect, because you want all the sound coming through the headset and not just the voices of the people you are playing with, right? Can someone explain to me why they let it on Chat Audio? Because I'm pretty curious about it and I'll probably get this headset. BTW, share your opinions and experiences with this headset if you have it. I want to know what you think about it. Thanks

Ok so I am very surprised how it seems basically impossible to find a straight answer on what is the best way to do it. Basically and as I would think would be simple, how can I best use a headset and hear my own voice with zero latency. I am still planning a build for my PC so nothing included the headset is set in stone. As of current I have been a console gamer and I have used a Turtle Beach X42 for Xbox 360 and an Xbox One. These headphones have very good mic monitoring and I can clearly hear my own voice. Now it seems that the only PC headsets I have found online that has the same feature is again Turtle Beach, but I am hesitant to by a headset because there is one feature I can't find anywhere else. Now is there a way I could practically have zero latency mic monitoring on any headset? The only viable option I have really seen is buying a blue yeti microphone that has built in loopback which I am not entirely against and currently seems like my best option but then I am restricted using that mic and can't really if I wanted use the mic on a Razer Kraken Pro or an Astro A40 etc... or I could but the mic would be useless. I've also heard of Mixers being able to do the job but then I have absolutely no idea what to look for in one and if I am paying more then I need to for just what I need. Please suggest and ideas or links to products if you can. Also please do not suggest to activating "listen to device" in windows, we all know it's not zero latency. Thanks!

I use Turtle Beach Z22. Before I got my new computer it had separate places for audio, and microphone and it worked fine! Now with my new computer I have 1 slot for both audio and microphone, so I bought a Headset Spliter, however it is still not working. Only my audio works. I've updated my drivers but with no avail. Any help would be amazing.

Hi, My budget for a new headset is $100. I've been eyeing the hyperx cloud lineup because of its alleged godly comfort. However, I have also been told that turtle beaches are very comfortable and quality for the low prices. I was specifically recommended the turtle beach px3. I know there are newer turtle beach models out, but I cannot distinguish the differences between many of them. I want surround sound, wire or wireless. Any suggestions or help? Thanks. Benjamin

Hello everyone! My head set is Turtle Beach's EarForce PX11 and for sometime now the headset has had faint static noises in the background even when nothing was running. Since the sound was very faint, and because I couldn't hear it while playing games, I decided to ignore it. But a couple of days ago the static got a lot louder and I could hear it while playing any game, running any application, or just idling. I tried updating my motherboard's audio drivers, but the sound was still there and just as loud. I plugged in my speakers, which had no distortion whatsoever. So know I know that it's the headset that's making the distortion sound. I would appreciate feedback if you might know how to fix it or if you know what's going on! (I don't want to go back to earbuds )

Sup LTT members, I've been a long term user of Turtle Beach headsets, I like em a lot but they tend to have a major flaw in them. There's a weak spot where these headsets just tend to snap for no apparent reason. This has happened to me 2 times now on the exact same spot with different models. To add, friends of mine reported the same spot and issue on different Turtle Beach headsets they have had in the past. Making the call to stick away from them is quickly made. But here I am browsing for a new headset knowing one major issue I have to deal with. Microphone quality. I record and upload like many people footage. Commentaries are my thing and yes I know, standalone microphone is the solution!!! But I lack money for such an option. Those things are incredibly expensive here and it's beyond my budget. Simply because I need so hear my games aswell again so headset is a need. I've been browsing around and there's a lot of decent headsets with great audio but horrible microphones. Though I find models like the Logitech G35 sound fairly ok to me. G430 is something I considered but then I heard the mic. The only thing I just can't get my hands on is wether that model had a refresh as many sites state the G430 as "new" despite it's release in januari 2013. If someone knows more about that it would be great. Back to the main thing, any recommendations for a headset with great microphone and audio quality that would meet a budget of max €150 (which often translates to $150 for us people here, yeah we get screwed over here).

Hi there. Right now there's a sale on the Turlte Beach IMPCAT 500 ten-keyless mechanical (MX Brown) in a Norwegian store (80 USD). This is tempting, seeing as i need a compact keyboard for a LAN party, however, i can't find ANY information about the product at all! No reviews and no general information about size or cable length. Does anyone here have experience with this keyboard, and know the size of it? (primarily worried about length)

Hello LTT community. I have Turtle Beach headphones and whenever I plug them in my desktop PC, I hear a lot of distortion and crackling noises even when I'm just idling on the desktop. I looked up ways to get rid of it, and a video I watched said DACs are great at removing Electrical Interference(the distortion/crackling noise). So do DACs remove this electrical interference? If so, can you recommend good DACs that are not too expensive? Average cost I saw for a DAC was ~$70

I have a PX5 that has a wireless transmitter with an on-board Dolby sound processing chip. It is able to output to regular headphone, and process a 5.1 sound signal. Would I be able to use the base as a DAC instead of buying a dedicated DAC?

Please note: This is my first review, so structure may be a bit lacking, but I'll try my best. This is going to be in a quick pro/con setup. Price: $279.99 (As of today 249.99 at BestBuy and possibly others) Audio Specs: 5.1 Uncompressed Surrond(Pc/Mac) and Virtual Dolby Digital 5.1 via control box included. Whats Included: Headset, Audio Control Unit, Console Adapter, Headset to ACU cable, Headset to Phone cable( Mic + button on 4 pole), Phone to ACU cable. ACU USB/9 pin extender cable, Xbox Chat to ACU cable, and 1 optical digital audio cable. Pros: Very light, but durable, build quality. They are make of mostly plastic, but the swivels on the earcups and the higth adjustment feel VERY solid. Uncompressed 5.1 surround VIA USB for PC users. Virtual 5.1 surround from almost any source. Immersive deep bass notes. Good microphone. Total control of everything, from the presets to the speaker angles/volumes Control audio levels of your game, chat, phone, and mic monitor with their own independent wheel. The foam ear cups are very nice feeling after just a few days of use. Cons: Pricey, but have a reason to be. Not 7.1, but I didn't hear a huge difference in testing compared to my other headsets. Plastic... They are really rough on your ears for the first 10 or so hours. I personally don't care for the color scheme of them, but it doesn't bother me much... A bit too much for phone gaming...( They include a cable for you to wear around town with your $280 headphones....) The console interface looks a bit blocky when compared to the design of the ACU The ACU buttons are a bit too touchy for my taste... I caught it after accidentally moving it's wire and changed the preset, muted the mic, and put it in 5.1 editor mode. Final thoughts: I really am enjoying the experience that this headset gives me. I have big ears, but the foam rests perfectly around my ear. I wouldn't recommend these to the casual gamer, but if you are looking for an advantage, you will hear every footstep around, that is if you can set the settings right :/ 4.5/5 Thanks for reading Edit: Formatting

Hello users of the forum, I was wondering which new gaming headphones to buy. I'm currently deciding between the ps4 wireless gold headset for $100 or the turtle beach px5 that is currently $50 off its normal price at about $103 both of which on amazon. I will use these on my ps4 and pc and would like to have them replace my broken Urbanears as my iPod touch headphones as well. I see the turtle beach unlikely for that, so if I get those (which I'm leaning towards) I'll get a new pair of earbuds for my iPod as well. I'm currently looking at these but am open to other suggestions as well: Sennheiser CX 300 II Precision Enhanced Bass Earbuds (Black) by Sennheiser http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001EZYMF4/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_i8GGtb099KJWG $30 Beyerdynamic DTX 101 iE In-Ear Headphone - Silver by beyerdynamic http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004LX8Y0U/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_18GGtb1KAGJWW $50 Beyerdynamic MMX 101 iE In Ear Headphone with Microphone by beyerdynamic http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005AUTSOY/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_E9GGtb1TDVGRJ $80 I listen to all types of music from foo fighters to eminem to Macklemore to the top 40 to ac dc to arctic monkeys. I spend a lot of time watching youtube on my iPod, so I would like them to be good for that as well. So i currently have the turtle beach x11 which ive had for over two years now and its time for a replacement, i recently brought an asus xonar 5.1 sound card as my friends in ts3 complained about and echo and a buzzing noise, the sound card did not fix the problem so i figure the only thing left to do was replace my headset only requirements are that it has some form of voice playback like the turtle beaches do as im so used to hearing my own voice if i didnt have it id be shouting at people down the mic id also like it to be some form of surround sound as i feel if im going to upgrade i might as well have surround sound looking to spend about £75 max but less is better. (i can spend more if needed but im tight lol) so, what do i buy??? thanks for any help Fresh

Hey so I am wanting a gaming headset that isn't all that pricey and isn't overdone (I don't have any HD soundcards or anything of that nature in use). I did some research and found that I seem to gravitate towards Turtle Beach headsets. Here is what I have read and like about them: 50mm drivers (Bass!!), the sound is angled into your year canal, when you talk you can hear yourself through the headset, and the fact that because they are a big company they know how to deal with returns and stuff like that (in the event that that's needed). So two models that I have gravitated towards are http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/pc-headsets/ear-force-z2/43 and http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/recertified-headsets/ear-force-charlie-recertified/362 so idk, just let me know your thoughts and insight on these things. Any commentary would help. Thanks P.S. I'm a bass head

So Turtle Beach X1, X11 and X12 headsets -- the ones they have shrines of at Bestbuy -- are powered by USB. No USB connection = no sound and no mic. While I had been using these type of headsets for my 360 between 2009-2013 without any problem, after I built my first PC in 2012 there were a string of problems for the new platform. The line is marketed as being cross platform, but is primarily for Xbox 360. 1. When I plugged my x11 headset to my new PC there was this terrible screeching noise. The usb amp connected to the headset overloaded and was never the same again. After I connected it back to my 360 it would still overheat -- normally it would be room temp -- but at that point it was pretty much dead. They were in very good condition, seriously, then the amp blew up without a bang. I should've unplugged them immediately after I heard the noise and forgot about hooking them up to my PC ever again after that. I called their customer support and they didn't do jack shit. They blamed it on my computer. What happened? I have a 550w 80+ Bronze Antec PSU. 2. After liking the X11s for 360 and not seeing a better choice, back in 2012 I got X12s. I would never attempt to hook the USB power to my PC until around when Titan Fall was released back in March; this was after I decided to let my XBL Gold expire for good. I started to try out trial software of Dxtory, Bandicam and Open Broadcaster Software as well. I've uploaded a few Let's Plays to my youtube channel, but my capture software playlists are more interesting. Testing 5-7 different emulators with different codecs, bitrates, render methods, etc. I found that Dxtory doesn't like recording OpenGL rendered games. In an example the best video plugin for ePSXe uses OpenGL, so best to use Bandicam in that case. For nearly all my recordings I've used the X12s. I had decided it was worth the risk and if I heard the screech I would unplug them without hesitation. For all the time I've had my PC and still was using my 360 I was plugging the USB power into my 360 -- proven to be safe -- so I could do coop in let's say a game like Portal 2 on Steam. In the Realtek Audio Manager I enabled noise suppression because the playback volume was terrible. In my testing videos with mic or the let's plays I kept the noise suppression on. Recently I took it off to remember what the fuss was about. The recordings had a lot of electrical feedback without the suppression. I kinda found a solution from reading this. http://support.turtlebeach.com/entry/830517263/?View=entry&EntryID=830517263&Msg= Pretty much it's telling me that "If you have multiple USB devices drawing too much power from your PC, this can cause you to hear the noise." "Test the headset by connecting it to a different USB power source altogether, such as a USB wall adapter." I got a cellphone charger and there was a night and day difference is recording sound quality while noise suppression was off. With it on it all sounded the same. X12s with wall charger, without charger and that Zalman clip on mic all sound the same with noise suppression on. I'd like to read the science on how the cell phone charger fixed the problem while my PC USB ports were degrading the signal. It makes me wonder how bad I sounded on XBL. I used to listen to my voice messages before I sent them and they seemed just fine. Now that I got this Syba DAC that came recommended from the forums here I'm weighing my options on how I should use it. It has a mic input, but is it any different from what my front and rear mic inputs are like? I'm still puzzled why SPDIF and Speaker devices coming the the DAC will both play through the headphones. I'm not even using a SPDIF cable.
