Hey, So I'm in a bit of a conundrum right now, to make a long story short I built my dream PC last year and now I'm facing an unexpected big move across the Atlantic a month from now. I really don't want to sell the expensive parts only to re-build after my move, and I don't really trust that nothing would break if I just ship the whole system to my new address, so my next best option is to take as much as possible out of the case, grab an extra suitcase and transport individual parts in the original boxes on the flight, and buy a new case to rebuild the system at my new location. My questions are, first of all, which parts would be safe to keep on the motherboard during transport? Right now I'm thinking to disconnect the GPU, RAM and CPU cooler, but keep CPU and M.2 drives installed. Do you think this would be safe assuming the motherboard is packed fairly tightly in it's original box? Secondly, just in general, has anyone else transported a PC like this in the past? Any particular problems or gripes you've ran into in that case? I realize this is a bit of a weird question with probably no clear answer, I'm just trying to gauge the risks to minimize potential damage to my parts as much as possible while also packing things as compact as possible. Any help would be much appreciated! For reference, this is the full build specs in question: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/QvwTRK

Anyone else have the tours Friday morning and looking to share an Uber from downtown Vancouver to LMG/Labs? Alternatively, if anyone is planning to drive and would be interested in carpooling. If you are looking for a different tour timing, feel free to post as well.

Does anyone know what the best way is to transport a 27" monitor on an international flight? I have the original packaging, but that is rather large and would fill a whole checked bag. I have considered some options, but still am not sure about them. bring on board (to big really) wrap around clothes and put into checked bag - (might get damaged?) check as special item (costly $100 or so) sell and buy a new one once at destination (time consuming and I will lose money) don't bring a monitor and just use the laptop monitor alone and maybe loose productivity Thanks

I'm going on an extended road trip and will be bringing my PC. Transporting the monitor and peripherals is no problem. My concern is the case. I'm not going to disassemble it (remove the graphics card & CPU heat sink) each time I move it. The case (Sliger Cerberus X) is pretty small, dimensions are 14.97"H x 6.78"W x 14.09"D. It has a handle on top, so it's also quite easy to pick up and move. Pic related, it's the inside of my PC. Except the Radeon VII is now an RTX 2080 Ti. My idea is to use a latching tote like this (pic is not exact, but you get the idea): and use polyethylene foam (2 or 4 pounds per cubic ft - any input on density would be appreciated), cut it to specific sizes to pad the inside of the tote (maybe even glue it to the sides and bottom), and also cut some pieces to put inside of the case to stabilize the graphics card and heat sink. My thinking is that it will be relatively convenient to be able to remove and replace the foam between transports, and it should adequately protect it from shock/vibration. Am I crazy? Is this a bad idea? Please enlighten me, I know nothing about moving PCs and this is simply my best guess at how. Also, what about orientation during transport? My guess is that laying it flat so that the graphics card is vertical and motherboard is horizontal would put the least stress on the components.

Hi everyone, Tomorrow I have a LAN party with some friends. I need to go with the car. Is it risky to transport my (new) gaming PC? I still have the old box with the foam. Is that ok? Or can I better take my iMac? (I know PCmasterrace ) The games we're going to play are on both computers avaibable. Thanks! P.S. I'm the most concerned about my CPU cooler and GPU. P.P.S. This is the rest of my build: CPU: intel core i5-7600K CPU cooler: Cryorig h7 Motherboard: msi z270 gaming carbon RAM: corsair vengeance lpx 16GB 3200MHz HDD & SSD: wd elements red 2TB & Samsung 960 evo 500GB (pci m.2 SSD) GPU: msi gtx 1070 armor 8GB OC PSU: corsair RM550x Case: NZXT H440 RAZER edition

So, I'm going to be flying across the country to come home from college and I want to bring my Gaming PC with me home. Trouble is, it's a fairly big computer, it's in a Fractal Define R4. What would you guys reccomend for getting a computer that big home over the plane? Would shipping it be the best option, or is there some kind of carry-on case that I could use to take it on the plane safely? It would need to be small enough to fit in an overhead bin I suppose, otherwise I would have to check it and that would be pretty dangerous for it. I suppose I could also unbuild it and pack the hard drive, graphics card, and other breakables in my suitcase, but that seems dangerous as well, and I don't know if I have the proper anti-static stuff to do so.

I need to package my gaming PC for travelling. All I have is a suitcase, some protective foam and some towels. Will this work? Static problems?

Hello! I might buy a new scooter soon, put I'm not sure... (I mean a scooter without an engine, just to be clear) I would use it most of the time for transport and sometimes for tricks... my budget is 120$ Oh, yes, and one more thing... does anyone know a store that sells scooters that ship to Europe, put not with a extremely big price of shipping? (I'm asking this cause I saw many of them not to ship to Europe or the prices of the shipping being tooooooo high...) If anyone has any advice, reply to this post. Thanks to everyone in advance!

So i bought a msi 32in curved monitor and i am worried about how to get it back home safely, it's way too big to fit it inside a bag and I don't think that the fragile sticker is any good, is there any way I can get it back home safely? I would appreciate any suggestions

I'll probably upgrade my main rig's graphics card with the 3080 release and trickle down the parts through the rest. I was thinking maybe on Black Friday upgrade my desk rig's cpu + mobo + ram, and with the leftovers build a PC for transport to carry with me when I go on holidays, or spending a weekend with my in-laws or such. This is a medium term plan, so I have no rush. Also don't want to spend much on it, although i don't have a budget thought yet. But I'd like to get some feedback on cases so I can start looking around and planing. I've seen some that look cool like the Corsair 380T, but seems discontinued. My requirements are simple: - Full size graphics card support (to put on of my 970's in it); - Inner support for transport (not to get my PCI slots ripped out with the GPU weight or anything); - study enough for transport (avoid stuff like broken side panels); - not being big in size; Nice to haves: - at least micro ATX support; - transport handles Thank you for any suggestion.

Hello, I am driving back to college later this week and I was wondering if it was safe to leave my NH-C14s installed in my PC. I will obviously be removing my GPU however I am unsure if I need to remove my C14s as well. Any advice regarding transporting this cooler / other large air coolers is much appreciated. Thanks

Hi there, I'm considering building a custom water-cooling loop; my only issue - how dangerous/risky is it to transport them? I would like to cool the CPU only. I will have to move my PC weekly for a 5 - 10 minute car drive. Please let me know if hard tubing or soft tubing is better (or not at all). I'm currently using an AiO (240mm) and would like to use the EKWB EK-KIT 240 S. This is not for better temps, but I want to gain the experience of building such a loop. Thanks, Sean

Hello, First, I am not sure if this is right place for such topic, so please move it to respectfull category. Now my question is, should i save money for expensive laptop for games, coding, fiddling with vms and network for private needs and maybe streaming as of usage and with purpose of leaving my country in the future or can i build mini itx buipd that will fill all those needs in a better way? Cheers,

Hello again mes amis, I am soon flying to Canada, I have been trying to sell my desktop computer but seems like in vain. Hence, I am considering packing my motherboard, processor, HDDs, GPU and RAM into my suitcase itself. Can anyone recommend the safest (damage proof and ESD proof) and lightest/least bulky method to pack the components? I am super concerned about mucking this up. all help is appreciated! thanks in advance!

Hey Everyone, I'm new here and have a question about transporting hard drives in a RAID. I'm moving overseas and I want to remove my hard drives from my RAID 0 to make sure they are not damaged in transportation. Can I remove the HDD's and install them back in the same SATA ports without issues? I'm using RAID controller on-board my Gigabyte motherboard and some Intel RST "stuff". Not sure if I'm allowed to ask questions like this on LTT Forums, but I would appreciate any clarification.

I'm looking for a shipping friendly mITX case. I've tried a couple cases, the current one in use being the Elite 110. The issue here is that I transport my computer in my checked luggage, 2-3 round trips a year. Usually the little pegs holding the front bezel break--not a real problem, but an inconvenience to glue the pegs/tape the bezel every time I travel. I haven't found a case yet where the front bezel isn't held on by 4ish plastic pegs. Case shouldn't be too prone to bending either, that happened to the bottom panel of the Elite 110 once. Granted, that was because I hadn't properly padded/supported the case. Case needs to support: 180mm full height dual slot GPU 50mm x 120mm AiO cooler 1 SSD, 1 HDD 170mm ATX PSU It should fit easily in standard luggage (with adequate padding) and not weigh a ton. Ideally, (as in that's the goal but let's be realistic here, I'm not getting it) Ideally, the case is less than 10"x10"x12" (250mm*250mm*300mm) in dimension and less than 7lbs (3kg) in weight. I'm trying not to break the bank on this and looking for something under 60USD, but I could deal with the problem as it stands and save up till winter if there is a significantly better option at a slightly higher price point.

I hope that someone else haven't posted this, I could at least not find it. On Tuesday(21.04.2016) Elon musk was on an Europe visit, or Norway visit to be more correct. He were at the "Future transport solutions" conference in Oslo, Norway. He talks a lot about how Norway is a great place when it comes to renewable energy like hydroelectricity. And the potential of it in the future (like what Norway should focus on) But he teased one of his future plans when it comes to public transport in cities. -Elon Musk -Elon Musk And for me and some others, the pieces fall together with one more sentence: -Elon Musk What me and many others think it is is a system where you open an app and put in where you want to go, and some sort of autonomous vehicle comes and pick you up, and then drives you to the place where you want to go. It isn't a completely new idea, like others, like myself have had idea in some form before, but now we know that Elon Musk is working on it. If you want more info: Video from the transport conference, he talks about his idea of public transport from 19:37 Links: English: http://techcrunch.com/2016/04/21/elon-musk-has-an-idea-for-autonomous-transit-vehicles-but-hes-being-coy-about-it/ http://www.cnbc.com/2016/04/21/elon-musk-wants-to-solve-traffic-congestion-with-self-driving-buses.html Norwegian: http://www.tu.no/artikler/elon-musk-norge-er-i-den-beste-posisjonen-til-a-oke-produksjonen-av-fornybar-energi/346601 http://e24.no/digital/elon-musk/elon-musk-norge-har-en-fantastisk-fordel/23663856

I need to transport my desktop home from the dorms in May and am going to transport it by placing it on the floor of a car. Does the car generate static electricity that could harm the computer? I'm wondering because when I moved it to the dorms from home, the PSU died less than a month later and had to get it replaced. I don't want that to happen when moving it back home. Also, my computer was plugged into the same power strip as my mini fridge when the PSU died and I heard that was a bad idea?

How would one go about taking a controller with them in a day bag? The control sticks worry me. Would it be fine to just throw it into a pocket somewhere?

Hey guys, So in the coming months, my wife and I are moving from London, England to Austin, Texas. While super excited about the move (hurrah for relatively cheaper tech!), I'm more than mildly concerned about the shipping of my current rig. You can see the pictures of the internals over in the link in my sig, but the crux of it is as such: Corsair Air 540 Case Corsair H110i GT Water Cooler MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr GPU x1 WD Green drive, x1 WD Black drive x1 Intel 535 SSD, x1 Samsung EVO 850 SSD My two main thoughts at the moment are to either send this rig over in pieces (I've most of the original components boxes), or to pack the chasis with cardboard and non-conductive padding, and ship it over as is (with the HDDs in some sort of shock proof box separately). Like I said, I'm at a loss here, and any advice would be amazing! Cheers all, Justin

So this is all hypothetical. How do we actually transport a rig by plane? For my first build I'm going with a Prodigy M since I want it to be easily transportable since I may have overseas assignments. How2Transport UPDATES: (1) I built a rig with a Phenom M (winged it, no stocks of white Prodigy M available) - see sig for full specs. (2) I am now on forecast to be sent to Japan for a minimum of 10 months. I need details on how I can transport my rig by plane. I WILL NOT LEAVE IT. So far the idea is to separate the CPU, CPU Cooler, and the GPU and bring them as handcarry. All else will be installed with the case, repackaged with the Phenom's box (box includes 2 hard styro for the case), then checked in. Thoughts? Re: putting the whole rig in a carry on, Japanese authorities are a bit strict when it comes to carry on. My weighs somewhere near 10kgs. So no.
