I have a local sata SSD hosting my OneDrive (with stuff like Documents, Desktop... etc also synced here) and as storage for downloads, including torrents through qBittorrent. It is a Fanxiang S101 2TB. Not a T1 manufacturer by any means, but by most reports they are reliable enough. I've had it for a year so far without other issues, and have done full block scanning to verify true capacity and read/write speeds are as advertised. Since 2 weeks ago it has started acting up. My system started stuttering frequently, including in games where I'm otherwise maintaining smooth 200 FPS before. I think I've tracked it down to this SSD. This SSD is not storing my games, nor any other software/apps, but it might be interfering with Windows itself since Desktop etc are on it. It frequently jumps to 100% disk usage, every few milliseconds. Sometimes it ramps back down straight away, other times it stays up for minutes. Even at 100% usage, the read/write speed in task manager are in the 2-digit KB/s range. It also seems to be throttling my qBittorrent downloads - popular linux ISOs with hundreds of seeders are now stuck in 5-50 KiB/s, where I used to easily do 50 MiB/s. I've done a full chkdsk f x r, took 4 hours, absolutely no bad sectors were discovered. It is at about 1 TB usage (out of 2 TB capacity). Would anyone have any ideas on how to further troubleshoot? Could the problem be originating elsewhere that's cascading into this SSD activity? Does this behaviour seem like malware?

I'm choosing parts for a new pc and need some advice for the case: - White color - ATX or M-ATX - Noctua D15 - RTX 4070ti - PSU Corsair RM1000e - Fit a 1 x 3.5" HDD Where I live it's very warm in summer so looking for a case that has the possibility to put fans under the GPU, my favorite candidate was the Fractal Design Torrent Compact, but I've read the problems with cable management so looking for similar sized alternatives Suggestions?

I wanted to build the quietest air-cooled PC at reasonable price with DDR5 for snappy response - therefore AMD this time. There is not much to say except for the "butcher mods" 1. RTX got new thermal pads from Thermal Grizzly - minus pad 8 and Noctua thermal paste. I had to put a fan next to it, because it is too passive now and want to give it some quiet airflow while still on the bench 2. Ryzen Wraith stock fan assembly replaced with Noctua fan, and 7700 itself is undervolted to negative 50, just sipping power, with minimal heat, it is running 1200 rpm most of the time while doing office work. 3. RAM is set to 6000 - there may be some room for improvement, but I have no idea how to do it right. Here is a bench - it works great at this config - 100% stable: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/60919192 Plans for near future to make it even more quiet and complete: Noctua NH-U12A chromax.black - as CPU fan is the loudest thing right now. Fractal Torrent Compact - to have good airflow at low fan RPM.

Hey guys. So I lurked around the forum and online, but couldn't find a solution. For the last two years, my computer has been randomly freezing, whenever I would watch YouTube videos or download something VIA torrent. It would happen very infrequently, so it wasn't a big issue. As of recently, my computer freezes whenever I open any browser. I read online, that I could be my SSD, but it happens even if I unplug the SSD and boot of of a HDD. Gaming seems fine, no matter what the game is. Or how intensive it is. Copying files seems normal. I don't get a BSOD, no spike in cpu/ram usage, nothing. Just freezes, mouse/keyboard don't respond. Doesn't unfreeze (left it overnight). Here's what I've tried: 1. Reinstalling windows. (Clean install) 2. booting of a different hard drive 3. Reseating RAM 4. Updating all the drivers 5. Reseating everything (reassembling the PC. 6. Removing the SSD or hard drive completely, to make sure it's not one of them. 7. AV/Malwarebytes scan 8. Turning it on and off again Here are the specs: MB: Asus P8z77-v Cpu: core i3 (2130? I wanna say) Cooler: overkill cooler master PSU: cooler master 570w RAM Kingston HyperX 8gb 4GBx2 Video card: Nvidia GTX 650 SSD: 120GB Kingston 300 series (system) HDD: WD green 1 TB HDD: Hitachi 500 GB (system for testing) Everything works like a charm in safe mode (with network driver support) Haven't had a single problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Here's a picture of ResMon in a frozen state.

I am just learning that uTorrent is considered garbage among torrent enthusiasts for "bloatware" and adding a bitcoin miner into the program. Does anyone know if this is still the case? I cant say i have ever had any issues with it but im open to try better torrent programs if people have some insight. Im hearing qbit torrent is good or better so please...guide me.

ok so i have a 2u server in my basement. use it for backups since theres like a million drives in it connected in different arrangements - thats another story. over the years torrents have collected, thats how things go. purchase a game, it isnt on steam/psn anymore, well? plus i find it unfair that i have to repurchase a game because its a pc port. take the last of us for example. Through PSN ive purchased it for my ps3/ps4/ps5, should it be purchased again??? anywho not condoning piracy, just saying. I get DCMA letters about Metal Gear when ive purchased every game at least 3x over, but im in trouble? Even the original metal gear for ps1, geez i purchased the physical CDs so many times over... Lost in oblivion except for the library of the internet! how can i share my junk without having them in utorrent/transmission? The files exist just not the magnets and so on, utorrent is always fired up. There must be a simple way to seed something that matches the checksum, how to do it? thanks peeps!

I'm having an issue with the RGB strip on my Fractal Torrent RGB. I reached out to Fractal but was trying to troubleshoot in the meantime. For some reason it is flickering with different colors, especially when it is set to a single color. Ex: when it is set to red it flashes blue and red like a cop car. I checked all my connections and they seem good to go and the strip is chained together with all the Fractal RGB case fans and all the case fans are doing fine. Thoughts?

I have a case. It's garbage. Building my PC the first time was a nightmare, but I thought my troubles might be done then. Unfortunately I've had to repeatedly replace/ relocate a number of components that are always a pain to reach, just recently I got a new motherboard which turned out to be broken and have to return that in 1 week but the replacement's coming in 2. The thought of replacing the motherboard in this case twice in as many weeks filled me with dread, so I'm just buying a new case now. I've narrowed it down to the Fractal Torrent and the Fractal Meshify 2, I'm curious about your opinions on each. I'm a fan of the look of the Torrent, how it's spacious enough to fit any cooling solution I might want (though I'm fairly certain I'll stick with my NH-D15) and that it already comes with some decent fans in a good config, no need to upgrade or mess with them. With the Meshify 2 there's no worries about running out of room for storage. Not that that's a major issue, I've got the one HDD and I have no plans to get more, but the real draw is honestly that removable top panel. After all the pain I've been through building that sounds like a godsend. I'm not overly concerned about the price as the difference will probably be bridged by the amount I'd have to spend on fans to get the Meshify to perform on par with the Torrent. I'm undecided at the moment so I was hoping to hear other's thoughts on the matter. I'm willing to hear alternative suggestions but before you make any note: 1. this is a somewhat time sensitive matter and both of these are available locally 2. I've never been a fan of glass side panels honestly and the fact these are high performers with an opaque side panel option was a big draw.

Hey guys. i just moved to a new house and when we did we went with a new internet provider, ROGERS. i like to torrent things, movies, shows, games. we've only been here a few days and got an email from rogers for..... Re: Allegations of Copyright Infringement Rogers has received a notice alleging that activities associated with your IP address are infringing copyright in material(s) owned or exclusively licensed by others, such as downloading a movie, music, or games. so, i dont plan on stopping my downloading behavior. For example, im not going to stop downloading episodes of Dexter and pay for a subscription to showtime. my question for this forum is, should i pay for a VPN like Private Internet Access so that i dont have to worry about getting sued or dragged into court. i live in ontario Canada BTW FWIW

Hello, I have a big issue with my internet on my pc for some months now(it got much worse now) and I can't figure out what is the problem. So first of all, I have my normal ethernet connection and when I download something heavy or a torrent with many peers, my internet gets unstable and disconnect and reconnects, I have tried changing the cable and router ports, and other PCs don't have any issue. So it must be something going on with my PC I figured and got an ethernet to usb to try it out.. And again when I download a torrent with many peers it happens again, but this time it crashes the devices on the same usb hubs too . I did notice on the task manager, that when this happens the task manager freezes for a bit and then ethernet disappears, CPU gets to 100% and disk 1 that I have the torrent manager and disk 2 that is where the file is being stored start spiking for a bit, not reaching 100% though, and then ethernet and usb hubs connects again, after some minutes(3 max) it happens again. I can't figure what is going on, I tried updating my network drivers with many different versions, but the same issue remains. I also have tried a usb wifi connected to the router and data, and the same thing happens again. My power supply is more than enough, I have a gtx950, fx6300 and 650W bronze corsair psu. But my PC is quite old, about 7-9 years, and maybe there is something wrong with the hardware that I don't know of. I also must add another problem that it may be connected with this one. For years now before I had a problem with my net, my PC needs 2 tries to boot. When I boot it it gets worked up but nothing is happening and it doesn't do any bleep sound, if If I force it to shutdown and turn it on again, it bleeps and boots as it should. For that I have tried using different RAMs on different slots and setting the BIOS on default and even updating it to many different versions. Is it maybe a psu or a motherboard issue? Any help is appreciated .

For context, I used to pirate, like a lot. But now I don't anymore. I now have a VPN and am still seeding various things though, although most of them are just free and publicly accessible photo albums, but comprised into an easily downloadable .zip file rather than a bunch of individual images. I use qbittorrent and other than I just learned it can still leak your IP address until you fix a setting, it has been fine. However, I learned a couple weeks ago, before I got a VPN, that qbittorrent was using more data a month than everything else was, and I just downloaded like 250GB worth of games on steam. Turns out I had seeded about 200GB and had only downloaded 100GB. So now I have a very tight upload limit in place because Comcast's 1200GB per month is very easy to hit when I have a roomate who normally uses 250GB a month. (According to his phone and computer when combined). Anyway, now that I am pretty much a leecher, I was wondering what is considered a good or even great ratio for torrents. Like I once pirated CP 2077 v1.1 without a VPN, and I was seeding at full speed for almost 4 weeks before I got a DMCA alert, and had a ratio of >12:1

Does the constant reads (and maybe writes too, I'm not sure) seeding a torrent requires degrades the SSD and shortens its lifetime?

Hi, I’ve been looking at the Fractal Torrent Full tower for a long time cause I really like the design, however I’m curious as to how much better the airflow is than the Corsair 5000D Airflow which I currently own, I’ve watched GNs video on the torrent however they only test them with the stock fans and the 5000D airflow comes with 2 crappy fans from factory where the torrent comes equipped with a full set. I’ve mounted 13 fans in my 5000D, wouldn’t the performance of the torrent be equally as good or maybe slightly better because of the huge 180mm fans? I certainly don’t want worse performance.

I'm still on the fence about whether to go AIO or Air Cooling gang for this build. I've been on laptops for more than a decade and it's my first PC build so I do like them aethetics of a fancy LCD on the cpu. That said though, the price to performance of a D15 chromax black does get me thinking maybe that's the better way to go. Processory is a 5900x so does a 360 rad have a considerable edge over the D15? Also any general tuning up of the build would be really appreciated. ( Already got the case and R9 5900x ) https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/grimmrepairer/saved/kdhFZL Budget (including currency): 3500 ish CAD Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Most AAA single players Anno and other city builder games I do like cranking graphics as high as I can get them Work running Unreal Engine and some Light - Medium 3D rendering.

I am planning on building a new system and I ve been waiting for Asus to release their new AM5 mini itx ROG Strix B650E-I because I needed a motherboard that can support the new gen ryzens, DDR5 and can fit in the Fractal torrent nano case. The motherboard was finally release a couple of days ago in my country at the wonderful price of 410€!!!!!! even though the same strix motherboard for intel's cpus costs 270€ which is still expensive but still inside my budget. Do you have any information whether we ll see a drop on the AM5 strix motherboards soon or is this going to be the standard price for this motherboard? It was the first time a case met all my requirements, looks, airflow and build space and I really don't want to go for intel...If only there was a small torrent case that could support micro atx that would have solve my problem but now I simply don't know what to do and I really need a new PC before February... Do you have any other recommendations that would help me? The PC I am planning to build will be using an AMD 7700x.

Hello internet. Not sure where to begin, or what search terminology I should even use. I have an old WD MyCloud, which I used to be able to watch content on remotely. (via mobile). However, WD stopped supporting Cloud for MyCloud after a certain upgrade. Anyway, I want to setup my own Plex Server via a NAS ( a QNAP TS-253D is on the way). I know, this supports Plex etc., and watched a billion (maybe 2 or 3) videos how to setup this up. But what I really want to do is, somehow, remotely login to the NAS (or a low powered PC), to search and download Torrents, which will go directly into the NAS. I don't think the NAS will have an App to torrent, so I think I might need a dedicated low powered PC, so I can remote in, and have the Torrent app installed. Maybe, a raspberry Pi can do this? I'm not sure. But this is the internet, and there's gotta be someone out here who is in the same boat. What are some setups people have? and what applications do they use? Any ideas? Cheers in advanced

I often hear Linus talking how he streams all his movies and TV shows of his NAS, but how is he getting all the movies? I mean, does he buy bluerays (or even 4k disks) and rip them to a mp4 file? Or does he torrent all his media? If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Please recommend me a torrent software with which i can seed more than 2000 torrents. TIA

before i start i must say thanks to linus and your team for wonderfully informative videos. im considering building a new seedbox for myself. heres my current box the photo is old because the original PSU failed i rigged it with a minibox PSU the hardware its using is a sans digital Raid tower a banana pi m1 a minibox pico PSU 150. two 4TB HDDs one 1.5TB HDD (that's not connected) im also using some case mount cables to give access to the needed ports on the pi. the software im running is the distro is simplenas (formerly called "bananas") i have compiled a kernel to enable SATA PM support for the pi and i am running r/rutorrent for the seed box okay now to my goals. like the above my concerns are as follows in order of priority (most to least) low power consumption of the system (the lower the better) low cost build quality needs to be decent heres what i will be doing with the system (in order of occurrence, l most to least) seeding torrents (currently a few a little over 1700) downloading torrents accessing the web UI, shares, and SSH from inside my network. backing up files accessing my shares, web UI outside my network. i will not be using it as a plex server or doing any media streaming with it. now i have no idea on where to start for my build so i need some advice what hardware specs should i worry about for a seedbox. CPU speed, memory capacity, or somthing else. i searched but all i found were seedbox hosts/resellers. a good CPU (not discontinued, because i buy my hardware form stores like microcenter, FRYs, and newegg.) a good motherboard (not discontinued, because i buy my hardware form stores like microcenter, FRYs, and newegg.) how much memory would be good, and too much. i don't need advice on what memory to buy, or HDDs as i will be reusing my 4TB disks in this system. no need for raid. as i'm not concerned with data corruption.

Hello there! I'm facing a problem recently regarding RAM. My old PC is currently running Windows 10 Education Insider Preview Build 16278.rs3_release.170825-1441. My PC is running a Core i5 4690K with 8GB DDR3 RAM @2133MHz . 1x 256GB SATA SSD and 1x WD Green 2TB backup drive. I have two Bittorrent client installed. One is Vuze and the other one is uTorrent. Recently I noticed abnormal memory usage, not by the torrent client but probably Windows. After a fresh reboot, the computer uses about 34-40% memory while idle (no application, games running. Just a fresh start). But if I start downloading torrent (small or big file doesn't matter), the RAM memory gets increased gradually. After about 1-2hrs later, Windows Task Manager will show memory usage around 80-85% and if I continue running, it gradually becomes 99% and the system becomes unstable and stops responding. Then, I have the use the good old restart button of the chassis to start the computer again. The thing is, I thought uTorrent is consuming the RAM but to my surprise, Task Manager was showing that uTorrent was using only 40-60MB of RAM. For Vuze, it is about 260-270MB. But my memory usage was just skyrocketing. I googled for solutions and found one that Windows NDU was causing problems. So, I went to registry editor and stopped it. But it didn't solve anything. Can anybody tell me what might be the problem here? Is it the torrent client? Vuze and uTorrent? I am skeptical that two different client would cause the same problem. Or is it a problem with the Windows? Or my Killer E2200 Network adopter is causing this memory leak? I have attached screen shot of the Task Manager and the Resource Manager. Thanks!

I am trying to download a file via Utorrent on my PC, the file is about 20gb, the torrent starts at 2MB/s goes till 8MB/s and starts dropping immediately after that, comes down almost to 10kB/s and stays there. if i stop the torrent and again start, it again catches up good speed and falls down again. download progress bar is showing the progress right. no problem there. What could be the issue ?

While some torrents are running in the latest uTorrent Beta 3.5.0 Build 44000 (upgraded from previous version which had same problem), the application closes on its own when I'm away or so and I haven't been able to find the real cause. Checked all the preferences, tried Defaulting but none helped! Closure time is uncertain: sometimes 2, 4 or even after 8 hours it shuts down. Triple checked that no third party apps are closing it forcibly. In task manager, too, the running status and priority are Normal. What could be the real cause to this problem I'm wondering?
