So, I asked a few months ago, some information about Canada because I was thinking moving there from Greece: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/659619-moving-to-canada/ Now, I am almost ready and prepared to do the big move! The place I chose is Toronto, and I will move in a few months. I need some information about Toronto though, and because I am tech geek, I need to know Internet Speeds there, as well if there is a PC Hardware Search Engine, so I can find the cheapest new hardware I want. We have one here at Greece which we call Skroutz, and it's API connected to many online stores. That's what I need. I know about PC Part Picker, but I am interested more in this search engine so I can find smartphones/laptops/gadgets etc. I also want you to tell me about ISPs in Canada, I found one called "Beanfield" which gives Fiber Optic up to 500Mbps, unlimited data in Ohio for 75$ US (~100 CAD). Is it a good ISP? I will surely need unlimited data, especially since I leave my family/girlfriend back here, to Skype with them. Also, high-speeds will be a dream for me. Average speed in Greece is 8Mbps, but I have 12Mbps. Lastly, can you confirm me that IT Technicians start salary is about 2500 CAD, rents are at 500-1000 CAD including utility, and life cost for 1 person is less than 2000 CAD? I don't care about going out or vacations, since I will be alone there, I will just be spending huge about of times on my PC. I know I ask much about tech, and I should ask more about life, but already know about that. And also, because at Greece I am creator of a community with 30k people only about tech, with Site/YT Channel, I will need to continue doing my hobby too (in Greece, finding sponsors is very hard). Thank you all in advance. Please no huge answers.

Hi everyone. I am new in Toronto, Ontario. I am not sure where to buy computer parts. Should I buy from newegg.ca or amazon.ca or Canadacomputers or any other stores? Which one will give me best value including shipping(I can bring the staffs if I buy from a local store). I am not sure if this forum is the right place to ask this question but I had no other way.

SuperMicro Supplier Canada, Toronto area
Starscream-F15 posted a topic in Servers, NAS, and Home Lab
Hey guys, I am part of a large IT firm and we are looking to get away from HPE / Lenovo servers. The cost of the "genuine" hardware is killer and hard to pass it back on to the customer. Awhile back I used SuperMicro components and I have always been a fan and I parted out a built comparing it directly to a HPE / Lenovo counterpart and the price is a lot better. My question is does anyone know a good supplier in the Toronto area for SuperMicro components? The only one I know of is ASI. I know Linus uses SM all the time I don't know where he gets it though. TIA- 2 replies

Hi guys, I've finally designed some custom housings for my IoT stuff around the office (because exposed wires are apparently bad ) but I'm terrible at 3D CAD designs, so everything is in 2D. Can anyone recommend a 3D printing company or product designer that they've had a good experience with? (Ideally near Toronto)? Cheers, Bryan

Hey guys! I live in Toronto and am looking to start building a NAS. I'm looking for a reputable source for either used goods or a nice place to buy new stuff. Do you Torontonians know of any place similar to free geek Vancouver(I've been to the one in Toronto, and it simply doesn't stack up) or just a computer repair shop somewhere that has a wide selection? If you guys have any tips for finding hardware (anything from a motherboard all the way to a case) in Toronto, please let me know! and before you suggest it, I've looked through kijiji and craigslist (although it's entirely possible I've been doing it wrong) Thanks guys!

Hi! I have a couple of questions regarding ISP's and the law in Toronto. I am planning to move to Toronto in Jan, specifically around Spadina Ave, and was wondering if there is a certain ISP I should be using when I move there or just go with the best price/speed? Also, having lived in Sweden & Thailand, I pretty much download torrents everyday. What are the laws on downloading in Canada - Toronto? If any. Is there anything thing I should not bring into Canada, look out for etc? Thanks in advance!

About a decade ago, with the introduction of broadband internet, ISPs in my city started to introduce data caps. I have gotten used to this idea as it was a way to squeeze some extra dough out of the customer that did not pay attention. Fast forward to this week: Bell (an ISP) calls to offer a connection to their FTTH (fiber-to-the-hub) network, with an unlimited data cap. The speed offered was a crappy 25Mbps down, BUT that is not important. What is important is that a consumer (namely me) can go to their current ISP (Rogers) and tell them that Bell is offering no data cap on the broadband connection to their FTTH network. Rogers has a FTTH network in the city as well. I guess the "robustness" of FTTH networks is ready to handle a lot more traffic. A short while on the phone, and after roughly 10 years, a 100Mbps down/10Mbps up, deal was reach with absolutely no cap on data. It is $65 a month, locked in for one year. It has been a while. I know in many parts of the world data caps were never a thing and that 100Mbps is not even considered "fast". I am happy though: I thought about putting this in networking, but it is more of an ISP (mini-news) type thing.

Since LTTF's search feature is either still broken or nobody has posted this yet (last years posts all came after the show) I decided to give y'all a brief preview of what to expect, if you're in the Toronto ON, Can area and are attending. (Preface: I went last year, but have a feeling this year's show will have more to offer) Just like last year, the Canadian International Auto Show will make good use of both ends of the Metro Toronto Convention Center, populating a minimum of five floors with all things automotive goodness. Among the regular econoboxes we see on the roads, last year also showcased the various classics, concept cars, supercars, hypercars, and even racecars. CIAS has lined up 125 different exhibits this year, totalling over 1,000 cars - many of which you can interact with, provided you dont mind waiting. But that's going to change a bit this year! Sometime this year (or last year, I can't seem to remember) it was announced that Cruise Nationals will no longer be a part of the circuit, meaning no more beautifully restored classic muscle cars. But fear not, because they have been replaced by something better - sharing the same floor space as many of Toronto's tuners this year will be a two-dozen car display titled "Art and the Automobile" run by the Cobble Beach Concours d'Elegance (similar to Pebble beach but smaller and in Canada). Confirmed are: 1929 Bugatti, 1962 Chrysler's turbine car, 1963 Ford Mustang II Concept. That didn't get you going? Remember when PFAFF Tuning was named Canada's sole exclusive Pagani dealer? Remember the all-carbon Huayra they brought into Ontario in 2013? Yeah, that's going to be at the show. As is the new Lamborghini Huracan alongside the larger Aventadors; while I'm not sure if PFAFF will be bringing back the white P1 that was there last year, I'm really hoping that at least the Ford GT will be there. If you haven't heard already, the new GT will actually be manufactured in Canada, specifically at Ford's Markham facility. Oh, and Toyota is FINALLY bringing the FT-1 to Canada, so be sure to check that out. Still nothing? Tough crowd. Well, ontop of the $15-25 ticket you purchased to even get in, there's a free exhibit at the show that I'm sure EVERYBODY will want to visit. That is none other than getting a chance to drive the infamous Peel P50. For FREE. The catch 22 here being that the speed is limited to 30 km/h, but saying you got to drive the world's smallest street legal car is something. Unlike the original cars, these are all brand new P50s from Peel, built for Ripley's and featuring all electric motors (Jeremy Clarkson was onto something!). Although this may be of little interest to many of you on this forum, new for the 2015 show is also the ability to buy new cars right on the show floor. I recall there was a strong presence at the Mercedes booth last year regarding the CLA, so clearly this addition was warranted. If you're not into buying a car, there will also be an raffle where the prizes are a Ford Mustang and/or a Subari WRX STI. The show runs from February 13-22, so if you're going give me a shout out!

Hey All, I am posting it here and I'm gonna attempt to email Linus as well. I am a HUGE (and when I say HUGE I mean HUGE) fan of Linus Tech Tips. I used to watch it casually two years ago and for the last year or so I've been watching it daily. I really wanted to say THANK YOU Linus and the crew for posting amazing videos; you guys had literally helped me make my first gaming PC, which is similar to one of your build guides, with a few tweeks. Now I am in the works of making a very quiet HTPC and so I'll be using your silent build guide for advice. So now that I've said my thank yous and all, let me get to the reason for the heading. So I am from a city called Brampton, ON and I travelled all the way to Calgary for an internship. I plan on going to Vancouver near the end of august, and I was really hoping to visit Linus and his Tech Tips crew. I watched almost all their videos, stuff from techquickie, linus tech tips, channel super fun (which is my favourite channel ) and not forgetting NCIX. I really wanted to just meet Linus and his team in person, have a chat with the guys and take pic with all the members as they are almost like my closest friends. (I know some of you guys might say I'm desperate or sound crazy, but I'm truly a big fan, although sadly I don't own any of the gear that linus posts on his website as I'm stuck with paying university tuition >_>). Anyways, I will be sending an email to Linus, and hopefully he won't ignore/be mad for using the business one, unless I can find a more personal contact email. I will be in Vancouver for 3-4 days just to do some sightseeing, so hopefully I get a chance to meet them before I go back to Brampton and continue my bachelors degree. Thank You so much, to the LTT community, Linus, Luke, Berkel, Nick, Taran, Brandon, Edzel, that guy who tried to audition for LTT and couldn't get in :'(, and anyone else (really sorry if I'm missing people that don't appear on camera but help make LTT a success) for all the advice you have been giving viewers/readers/posters/whatever we are. Without you guys, I wouldn't be able to build my first gaming pc, nor continue learning more about PC parts and cool builds. I wish you all the success in the future and I hope my wish comes true and I can meet with the team and take a quick picture with them. Now to conclude, I am going to borrow lines from Linus: "Like this post if you liked it, dislike it if you thought it sucked, leave a comment if your feelings are more complicated than this..." Keren

Hello LTT forumers... I want to make this as short as possible and still manage to explain my frustration with purchasing water cooling supplies in Toronto, where I reside in. Firstly, let me note that I've been interested in providing full water cooling support for my rig for some time now. Picking a compatible motherboard for cooling the MOSFETS and a compatible GPU were the easy parts. Then I ventured to get the case of all cases to show off a beautiful water cooling loop... Corsair 760T, you are mine. Easy. Now, I'm stumped. Deciding which water blocks, radiators, reservoir and pump i need is fairly simple once you have your internal dimensions. However, here in Toronto there are no stores which I can walk into and buy everything I need and to add to that, none of the online suppliers such as KWB, DazMode and even NCIX (sorry Linus) carry everything I need as well, without paying shipping 5-10 times for each item.. So I was concluded to come and ask all you beautiful souls in the LTT forums to help a frustrated guy out... Where is the best place in Toronto (or Canada if that's too specific) to buy water cooling supplies all together? Thanks for your help in advance!

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone here's from Toronto and has the Oppo Find 7. If so, are you having any major issues with it? I'm planning on getting this phone but I want to get as much input as I can to see if I find a dealbreaking flaw to it (like reception issues). As for general functionality and performance, anyone can weigh in really about their experiences, I'll take whatever second-hand experience I can get about it Thanks guys!

Everybody and their dog knows about our beloved Toronto mayor by now; the infamous Rob Ford and his never-ending crack allegations and rehab cover ups, in addition to having his brother Doug running alongside in our municipal politics. What most of you might not already know is that Joel Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5, has an ongoing Coffee Run show on YouTube where he basically drives famous musicians (and his personal lawyer) around to Tim Horton's (a Canadian staple) for some, you guessed it, coffee. It's sort of like Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee but more raw and from a musical DJ / Producer perspective. His vehicles of choice are a Ferrari 458 Spyder (his personal Purrari and a US loaner car) in addition to his Bentley Continental GTC W12 and his brand new McLaren 650S. His videos are quite long (about the length of Linus' build guides) but this is one I highly suggest you watch; if you make it through, I've included a picture of the Purrari at last weekends Importfest Toronto for you. Enjoy! Official proof:
