So there is an official linux build of Tomb raider (2013), but the steam page doesn't show that linux is a supported platform for the game. As the game is on sale for the next few days, I'd like to know, If I purchase the game on Steam today, will I have access to the native linux version?

Nvidia 378.78 drivers deliver huge gains in Tomb raider, a traditionally AMD optimized title. Personnal opinion on what this may mean: Pre-amble Pre-DX12 Nvidia was able to completely own the market with what were objectively simpler and smaller chips. From interviews over the years this was said to be caused by Nvidia having an insanely well optimized DX11 pipeline, essentially a more direct and elegant render path. AMD on the other hand managed to deliver similar performance by sheer brute force (think back to 7970 vs gtx 680), consuming more power and costing more to manufacture (bigger chip) in comparison to the green teams offering at the time. What this means today With Nvidia posting these sort of gains with DX12, it may that they've (bad pun incoming) cracked the code for how best to set up the driver pipeline and not have to take a more brute force approach that always comes with a new API, before either team realizes what code path would work best with their respective architectures. Hello guys it's my first time here ?. Hope everyone is doing okay. So I'll begin ?. My desire it to able to play in 1080p with the highest FPS possible games like the lastest volumes of The Witcher and Tomb Raider series. I don't have a monitor yet, but I have a Sony Bravia 1080p 40inch TV (planning to get a 2k monitor next year) and a Laptop Lenovo Ideapad 310 (i5-6200u, SSD Samsung Evo 860, 8gb ddr4 2133) I'm on a very tight budget this year for building a new pc for gaming, but in 2020 I could be able to do that with new pc parts and the right office table. I neither wanna buy an old pc with a LGA1150 or LGA1155 motherboard, because I can get at most 3 months of warranty for refurbished pcs. My idea here is to combine a GTX 1660 with my actual Laptop for the moment. This CPU "very low consumption" seems to be an equal to the i3-2120 in terms of performance over the multiple sites I checked over. Is the GTX 1660 (new for 230$) a good choice, or should I stick with a used RX 480 (used for 120$) or RX 580 (used for 145$) in order to save money. I made a snapshot on a comparison at gpucheck.com. The GTX 1660 on average seems to reach 81 FPS in High Settings, but just 2 FPS lower with the RX 580 and 5 FPS lower with the cheap RX 480. I'm not sure whether I get the GTX 1660 for now and for the future upgrade, or If that too much a bootleneck for this CPU should I stick with one of those used RX X80s (cheapest bang for the buck in my country). Thank you in advance for your advices ?

I'm new to pc's and pc gaming in general and just recently put together a system. I also just upgraded my gpu from a Gigabyte Radeon 590 to a Gigabyte Aorus 2070 Super. I then started playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider. After playing for a good while I left it on the pause screen for a moment and when I came back the game had shut down and pc restarted. Ever since I've tried to launch the game low or high settings it launches Steam and the start menu for the game then when I click to launch the game my internet disconnects and my cursor freezes and the rest of the system freezes. The only way I am able to get back going again is to press the reset button on my tower. Battlefield V on the other hand loads Origin and then the system just simply crashes. I am able to play games like Modern Warfare, Borderlands 3, Fortnite and just about any other game I so choose with no problems. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Being a new pc user and having paid for these games I would really like to get this resolved.

There are going to be spoilers here, but I don't think it will detract from the viewing experience. I'm writing this mainly as an outlet for my frustration and my thoughts. Square Enix are idiots. That much has been confirmed time and time again. They just don't know what makes something successful. When they made Rise of the Tomb Raider they messed up by amping up the wrong things in the game (there was WAY too much emphasis on collecting crap to craft). When Deus Ex Mankind Divided came out they didn't know what made Human Revolution good (the intricate story and well written characters), instead they focused on doing more of the same, not fixing old mistakes (like prerendered takedowns). And there are a lot more mistakes SE made, the latest of which is the 2018 Tomb Raider movie. Again, it seems like they looked at the game and said "Oh, people liked this, so let's make something like this" and they threw away the good parts and kept the crap. The reboot Tomb Raider game was so much better. And I don't mean that they shouldn't change and rewrite things to fit the movie better, but they totally failed in every respect. Let's take it from the top. In the movie Lara Croft is the polar opposite of the character in the game. She is a fighter (established in the FIRST scene), she didn't go to collage, she doesn't care about archaeology, her only motivation is to find out what happened to her father. Now compare that to the game where she is an archaeologist out to make a name for herself. She is not much of a fighter, she never had to really fend for herself. Furthermore the game starts in medias res and we slowly get some scenes that happened on the boat ride. Instead the movie DRAGS on trying to set up this pathetic plot line about Lara's father. And all of this just so shoehorn trinity into it so they are the big bad. And the first half an hour at least is really just a wast of time. I mean did we really need to see how she finds a boat to go to the island??? Wasn't it just so much easier in the games? Ya know, just start with them already on their way, maybe a monologue with a voyage montage or something, establish the characters and bam, you're on the island. In 10-15 minutes they could've done it way better. Now, the game was good because of the supporting characters. Johna, Roth, Reyes, Whitman. These were all important to the story. They could've done away with Whitman and Reyes to keep the cast smaller but leaving out Johna and Roth? The two most influential people in this story? And of course Sam. Now the story is crap as well. The game centered around this idea that Lara doesn't believe in the supernatural, but then slowly has to face the fact that it does exist. In the movie Lara doesn't believe in the supernatural, and by the end her views are completely vindicated, leading to no character progression, yet again. Turns out Himiko was just a carrier of a nasty virus that turns you into a zombie. But then how do you explain the storms?!?! The whole thing in the game was that Himiko is a very real goddess who wants to be reborn in Sam's body. She is causing all the storms that leave people stranded on Jamatai. And all of this is kind of implied in the beginning exposition of the movie, but then is all but forgotten by the end, kind of saying "oh, that's not it at all". Mathias was turned from a charismatic and intriguing villain into a one dimensional goon. If they really wanted him to be a Trinity thug they could've just as easily did that with him going mad on the island, bringing the whole thing closer to the game. And the most amazingly stupid thing they did... They took one of the most important lines from the game and they made a complete mockery of it, twisting it, using it in the complete opposite sense. "I'm not that kind of Croft" meant that she doesn't believe in herself but she slowly overcame her fears and gained confidence. This was the motto of her growth. But in the movie it kinda just means "I think you're stupid dad and I'm better". I'm not saying all of this because I think they should've recreated the game in movie form. I'm saying this because what they did do is not in any way better than the game. Oh, and the CGI was dodgy at best.

I had some free time tonight, so I ran some tests. here are some results from my setup; setup: * i5-4690k @4.5GHz * R9 290 @1100MHz * 2x8GB DDR3 (16GBs) @2133MHz * ASRock Z97 Fatal1ty * Corsair RM750 * SSD for Windows(10), HDD (7200rpm) for games (All settings are defaults, unedited; AA=FXAA, vsync=enabled, double buffer) Vsync=disabled: I ran some of these benchmarks twice because I didn't believe the numbers for Dx11; min of 20fps on lowest settings? oke. overall the performance has improved in some areas of the game. However, the same problem persists for me. the minimum FPS' are coming from areas of the game where, if you stare, your FPS drops and does not go back up until you leave / look away from the area. Needless to say the benchmark does not represent real-world experience. my own personal experience is shitty with this game. I don't like the way my frames dip to mid 40's on medium settings while camping or questing, given the hardware I have. not the best, but should be enough for 1080p@60fps without these annoying dips. Have you bought the game? how is your experience / hardware setup? edit; I didn't run 'very high' benchmarks because of vram (4GB) game tells me it requires more so I didn't run the tests. I don't own 1440p/4k monitors so I don't game on them. thats why no 1440p/4k benches. also, I have no idea why the benchmark gave me lower min-scores after disabling vsync, but there you have it.

Hey there everybody, I frequent on LTT Forum and just have a quick build idea for my dad. My dad recently had heart surgery and is going to be home alone during the day for the next couple months and before going in he saw me playing the new tomb raider game. He was quite interested and wanted to play for himself. Well I like my tower and that is about the only thing i ever do when im home is play on my tower. So i kind of run into an issue there because i'm sure he's going to want to play while im home as well. Plus lugging my tower in and out of my room every day is going to be annoying. So instead i want to throw a quick build together that he can play some games. I don't have too much money i can spend on it. I only want to spend a maximum of $400. I do plan on doing some craigslist shopping as well and maybe some ebay but i will throw a pcpartpicker on what i think would be good enough. Keep in mind, if it is a micro atx board i have a micro atx case laying around. I know AMD is going to be the idea here but if i can stay on intel side that'd be awesome, but i am open to AMD since it's not my actual computer. i5 2400 (used)- $80 1155 Asus motherboard- $60 8GB kingston RAM- $40 750ti (2gb)- $110 600w PSU- $50 Stock Cooler (i might have one laying around)- $10 Total:$350 Any other ideas please feel free to drop them below. Like i said i will be doing some craigslist shopping tonight.

Hi, I got the new Rise of Tomb Raider game last week. I had no way to tell how many fps i was getting until i used the CAM fps overlay. I'm only getting 50fps with a 980ti? If it helps, I've heard that the game runs much better on an ssd which BTW i don't have.

Hello guys, as I started playing the game today I recognised a really stuttering performance and tested the fps settings. With fraps I have ~23fps constantly at the best preset settings. But as I do lower the settings it always stays at the 23fps or below framerate (at the lowest it is around 28 fps). I have a Quadcore with 3,9GHz and a R9 390X and 24Gigs of Ram. I'm playing on a 2048x1152 resolution. The game should run fluid at over 40 fps at the best settings at least. The day I got it, it performed at that performance and I did not change anything whatsoever... Other games work fine and at constant 60fps (e.g. Witcher 3) I restarted the PC, reinstalled the game and nothing changed... Do any of you have an idea what I could do? I mostly bought the game for looks (not only though ), but this laggy gameplay is not really fun, if you actually should have the right hardware to not have to experience that...

Just as a notice upfront, this topic is mainly for me documenting my thoughts, as a sort of public online diary. If you find it too long and boring you are welcome to leave. Something that I've been coveting for quite some time now was the Tomb Raider collection on Steam. In the recent Steam sale I said what the hell, let's do it. I started playing Tomb Raider and I was having the time of my life. This game was one of those prominent games of my childhood. I remember that one time when my brother went abroad he came back with a new game. It was called "Tomb Raider". This might have been the first AAA game that I had a legit copy of. Even though it was in German and I didn't understand a word. Truth be told I don't think I ever made it past level 3 or 4. Then in later years came TR 3 and 4 (somehow I totally missed TR 2), and after that I kind of lost interest until the reboot trilogy (Legend, Anniversary and Underworld). So the nostalgia is strong with this series, and I was afraid that it might cloud my judgement of the game. This was the first time I really gave my best to beat this game. At first I was struck by a heavy sense of nostalgia, memories rushing back. But as I said, I never really got that far, so this subsided quite quickly. To my surprise I was still enjoying the game after that as well. There's just something that I can only describe as "AAA feeling". For 1996 this game looks and plays great. It aged very well. The blocky nature of the levels help with the navigation, even though it's sometimes an eyesore. But the animations, the lighting and the gameplay mechanics are all very well done. Oldschool games often had maze-like levels, like Doom or Duke3D for example, that involved searching for keys which broke up the fighting. In Tomb Raider, however, there were fighting sequences that broke up the platforming and navigation. There were levels in the Thief series where you had to explore ancient ruins and tombs that I just loved, and TR is a whole game based around that. Something about that just really captures my imagination. The best thing about it is that it has no "language" in it. They managed to refrain from written clues and puzzles. There are no markers where you have to go, no objectives screen that tells you what to do, Lara doesn't speak up to give you tips. The whole game is you, the player, trying to navigate this huge ass tomb, figuring out ancient puzzles, looking for keys to activate contraptions. An other thing is that it really has a sense of place. Peru, Greece and Egypt are all distinct. Not to mention Atlantis. I can't help but feel the enormous care and attention that must have gone into this game. Growing up I didn't play a lot of Eidos games unfortunately, but in my later years I've been picking up and playing through more and more of their games. The Legacy of Kain series, Hitman, Thief, Tomb Raider, Commandos. These are huge titles and some of the best games I've ever played. And in my opinion these games are timeless. There's a certain quality that comes with these games that make me want to play them. It might just be that I have a certain kind of love for old games like these, and a tolerance for them. But I think that it's more along the lines that these games offer something more. They offer real challenges, not just based on player skill but also on cognitive tasks. And I feel that this is something we've lost. Games nowdays are afraid to challenge our minds. We've shifted to a more cinematic gameplay and story based games, which is not necessarily bad. Some of my favorite games a cinematic experiences, like Max Payne 3, that even though don't challenge your brain like Tomb Raider, Thief or Hitman would, these newer games try to challenge your thoughts and beliefs. But I think it's a shame that we as a consumer base have become to lazy and impatient to appreciate the beauty in figuring out a puzzle. Instead if it's not apparent right away we resort to online guides. And still, at the same time we praise games like Dark Souls for not holding the hands of the player. Anyways, these are my thoughts. I finished Tomb Raider today for the first time, under 14 hours. I'm moving onto Tomb Raider II, maybe after I'm finished with that I will continue this little experimental online diary.

Made a post about this on steam, haven't got any responses yet. So about last night I got to this point where the game crashes. It's at the soviet installation (about 15% game completion mark) after Lara is captured and she escapes with that one man, getting separated and going to meet at the train yard. When i get to the train yard and get to the cut scene of the guy fighting another with a knife and after that a chopper comes in and attacks you. After the cut scene the game always crashes saying "Corrupt texture data passed into PCDX11Texture constructor!" I tried reloading the autosave and it crashes again. I tried loading a save a few minutes before that but when I get to that point it crashes again. I tried it one more time, this time skipping the cutscene, thinking maybe that's the problem, but it happened again. Playing on Windows 10. Maybe that's the problem? I remember when MGS Phantom Pain came out I pretty much had to dual boot with 8.1 cause it would not load at all at a certain part for me with windows 10.

Hi! I recently built a gaming pc, the crown jewel of which I thought would be the R9 290. I'd seen many benchmarks displaying some amazing frame rates, so I had no doubt that the card would rock any game that I put to the test. While I did get decent frame rates on BF4 (1080p, Ultra), there were quite a few frame drops which caused me to drop down the graphics to high. Not to mention this card gets as hot as 90c with 100% fan speeds, which really concerns me. Moving onto Tomb Raider (1080p, Ultra), I got an average of about 30-40fps, max of 60fps, and a low of about 20fps when in cutscenes with fire. That low was EXTREMELY disappointing for me, considering the amount I paid for the card. I did a test on Unigine Heaven Benchmark... Here were the results. FPS: 30.7 Score: 772 Min FPS: 14.0 Max FPS: 60.6 System Platform: Windows 7 (build 7601, Service Pack 1) 64bit CPU model: AMD FX-6350 Six-Core Processor (3917MHz) x3 GPU model: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series 15.200.1062.0 (4095MB) x1 Settings Render: Direct3D11 Mode: 1920x1080 8xAA fullscreen Preset Custom Quality Ultra Tessellation: Extreme When they say a max of 60, they mean it was 60 for about 3 seconds on one scene. I was expecting better scores. Is this just the result of the card, or is it a flaw in my system? Does anyone else experience FPS/heat issues with this card? Any input would be appreciated!

So considering that Tomb Raider is able to leverage computer hardware pretty well I've been able to push the limits on my Asus g750's gtx 860m. I'm getting consistent 60fps at high detail settings and about 40 fps with an occasional fps dip at the highest detail level. So what counts more a playable 40 fps with graphics settings as high as they can be or a consistent 60 fps with high detail? I know it's a bit subjective but I'm a bit new to pc gaming and I really want to get a sense of the general opinion on this.
