Well this sucks. This kind of vertical integration between and ISP and major content provider is the last thing we need, and all this on the cusp of Net Neutrality being killed off. It's a match made in hell. Hopefully the the justice department pushes for an appeal, otherwise this is going to turn into a shit show in the not too distant future. The Verge

These enforceable, bright-line rules will ban paid prioritization, and the blocking and throttling of lawful content and services. I propose to fully apply - for the first time ever - those bright-line rules to mobile broadband. My proposal assures the rights of Internet users to go where they want, when they want, and the rights of innovators to introduce new products without asking anyone’s permission.” also wants to modernize Title II, tailoring it for the 21st century, in order to provide returns necessary to construct competitive networks no rate regulation, no tarrifs, no last-mile unbundling under the modified Title II, there will be a general conduct rule that can be used to stop new and novel threats to the internet “This means the action we take will be strong enough and flexible enough not only to deal with the realities of today, but also to establish ground rules for the as yet unimagined.” “The Internet must be fast, far, and open. Video makers won’t be accepted to the program at the higher revenue-share rate — 70 percent — if their channels have any videos of any games not explicitly permitted by a Nintendo whitelist. Hello everyone, I live in Costa Mesa. one of the 4 cities to get the new tiers this year from Time Warner cable. Their 100,200,300 ultimate. which sounds awesome! Problem is, it does not really exist yet. Now before you say, now now they said it would come this year. True and it is only May they still have a bit to go. The issue I really have is a month ago they started putting on our bills that we had our respective upgrades, in my case ultimate 200, which is supposed to be 200 down and 20 up. do you want to know what I get now? 30 down and 5 up. Not only that but almost a month ago I received a letter from Time Warner cable telling me, Myself and others in the city now had the new tiers. "have Them", "right now", even the 300/20 top tier was here for all the top tier subscribers. I was joyous! But after a 2 hour phone call with Time Warner to get my speed set right I was perplexed. They do not have 300/20, they do not even have 200/20. They do not exist "yet". only 100/10 is available and only to "specific" customers. I can not help but feel cheated a little, the reps on the phone were very Liberal with the line "Remember this is a free upgrade at no cost to you." well this is dandy and all. But do not tell me and all my friends we have better internet speeds and when we ask where they are tell us they do not exist yet! Anyone else In the other cities have the same situation? Publicity stuns like this really pull me the wrong way.

I appreciate that they're doing this but I hesitate to say that it's a.... publicity stunt? If they really wanted to be fully committed to finding kids, shouldn't they do a bit more than give their employees training to call the cops? I wish we knew a bit more about what exactly they're training them to do...

Sorry of this is a repost First time spreading news on the forums and kinda in a rush Source: http://www.geek.com/news/comcast-and-time-warner-double-customer-speeds-but-only-if-theres-competition-in-the-area-1601247/ So basically, in areas where there is other ISPs that exist and compete with them, like where Google Fiber is available, Comcast and Time Warner Cable will double the speeds of their customer's internet for free without bumping their monthly payments up. but for the people that only have them, they will have to stick with their random outages, slower speeds offered at higher prices. Yay for me! I live in Houston TX where we have 2 more options to choose from! I'm quite happy but still, they are evil and I still hate them for a reason.

Hey guys i was just reading the Verge's article about how "the internet is fucked" and it mention that because the internet is so important to everyday life that it should be counted as a utility. I was wondering how you guys felt about this and created a straw poll. I'm also currently making a speech to give in Public Speaking about Net Neutrality so if i get a significant amount of votes in either direction i'll use it in my speech but mainly im just curious. I'll post results in increments through the next few days. Here's the Straw poll: http://strawpoll.me/1488141 Here's the article i was talking about: http://www.theverge.com/2014/2/25/5431382/the-internet-is-fucked
