A couple of years ago there was this scandal when it came to light that Apple was purposely slowing down older iPhone models without acknowledging it. There was a WAN Show segment about this. Tim Cook even apologized in multiple interviews, stating that Apple did this to increase battery longevity of older models, but acknowledged that he understood why people were upset and promised that they would put in a switch in the iOS Settings-app where the user could choose between keeping higher performance or keeping longer battery life for older devices. Now, many years later, in 2023, where is this switch?

Summary Norfolk County Council in England is taking the tech giant to court, claiming that they mislead investors about handset demand in November 2018. The council holds shares in Apple as part of an employee pension scheme. Quotes My thoughts Its seems Apple is in the courts a lot recently with the ongoing suit with Epic Games and the US monopoly investigations. I feel that the pensions group working on behalf of the council (my council, I should add, not that it changes my opinion because they're pretty naff) would have to come up with some serious evidence that Tim Apple did anything wrong if it wants to compete with both Apple and the US court system. Facebook's Zuckerberg fires back at Apple's Tim Cook Source: http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-43619410 Tim Cook is dead right for sure - and I'm glad Apple isn't heading in the same way as FaceBook, Twitter and Google etc. Like Apple or not, they have the best privacy policy around now. Mark's response was (implicitly to Apple): In my view, Zuckerberg is still a very young and naive CEO and doesn't understand this world as much as Cook - he could learn a lot. Such as sniffing into peoples messages and personal data - and selling them off is not a good idea. Moreso lying about it . Tim Cook's statement is pretty spot-on, especially as these online services can only grow. There is still a strong future for these services but only if people arent put off.

NOT! I dunno what the hell Apple's management is on, but they clearly lost their marbles

Talk about irony. What Tim Cook predicted exactly happened. Main intention of the FBI was to set up a precedent and they're already in line with 175 other iPhones Pretty sure this case is going all the way to Supreme court now especially since everyone both in tech and public are equally divided on where to stand Source: http://9to5mac.com/2016/02/26/fbi-apple-iphone-precedent-poll-candidates/

Tim Cook appears to be using his international tour, which so far includes Israel, Germany and the UK. In an interview with the German newspaper BILD posted yesterday, Cook went as far as to praise Edward Snowden for his role in prompting discussion of the issue. Cook has in the past resisted FBI pressure to compromise its strong encryption, and was the only tech CEO to attend a recent White House cybersecurity summit. In the BILD interview, Cook reiterated Apple’s stance on privacy, and also said that as Apple had grown larger, it had taken deliberate decisions to be less secretive about some aspects of its business … Cook stressed that Apple takes pains to ensure that it does not have access to unnecessary data about its customers. He said that when Apple does request permission to use customer data, it is always used to improve products and customers “have a right to stop that at any time.“ Cook said that Apple had chosen to be extremely transparent about privacy issues, and also to share its work on improving working conditions in its supply chain in the hope that this would help accelerate the pace of change. There would, though, be no change in Apple’s secrecy about its product plans. Shortly after what would have been Steve Job’s 60th birthday, Cook described Steve as the best teacher he’d ever had. Last night Apple CEO Tim Cook attended the WSJDLive, a vibrant, international technology conference hosted by The Wall Street Journal’s senior editors. In this event, Tim Cook explained why Apple quietly killed the iPod Classic last month. Tim Cook said they no longer can get the parts to build the iPod Classic, and it is not worthy for Apple to design a new iPod Classic. This may not be surprising, as iPod is a declining business for Apple. Sales of iPod products had been steadily declining since 2008, and even Tim Cook once said on a company's earnings conference call, that "The way we look at it, our business is a sell-through point of view less iPod -- all of us have known for some time that iPod is a declining business." But fo you think it is not worthy for Apple to design a new IPod Classic? Interestingly, Tim Cook also confirmed in the same event, that the upcoming Apple Watch need to be charged daily, He said, "You're going to wind up charging it daily," Tim Cook refused to provide a specific battery life for the device as Apple is still examining how people use it. http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/28/7082095/tim-cook-says-apple-killed-the-ipod-classic-because-it-couldnt-get http://www.macrumors.com/2014/10/28/tim-cook-on-apple-watch/

Merchants have different objectives sometimes. But in the long arc of time, you only are relevant as a retailer or merchant if your customers love you.” On Saturday, the pharmacies Rite Aid and CVS (both members of the MCX) disabled Apple Pay from their stores, even though they have the compatible equipment that was working when Apple Pay launched last week. They also blocked Google Wallet, a similar system for Android phones that Google launched in 2012 MCX happens to be working on its own mobile payments app, CurrentC, which is in beta testing and is expected to launch next year. CurrentC requires you to scan a barcode to make payments, something proved to not be as secure as near-field communication and other encrypted technology used by Apple Pay and Google Wallet. The Apple Watch home screen is far more fluid, scales to any screen size without looking cramped or spaced out. All your apps are close by, all the time. The new ‘reachability’ feature that makes your screen slide down so you can reach items at the top of your screen is as good as an admission from apple that the current design is not meant for a screen this size. Apple has created an entirely new, modern home screen that is more intuitive, more flexible and adaptive as well. Only time will tell if this design trickles down to the iPhone, but the benefits it brings make it a strong contender for a new face of iOS. 1000 MPH On Land. Source 1: linustechtips.com OP: Benediction Source 2: wired.co.uk Source 3: wired.co.uk Richard Noble is spearheading a project called ‘Bloodhound SSC’. Richard is responsible for the previous land speed records in 1983 and 1997. The problem with land speed records is that drag from air increases with a squared ratio in proportion to the speed. Lockheed's A-12 could cruise at Mach 3, more than 2,000mph, for as long as it had fuel. The Bloodhound SSC’s wheels are solid disks of aluminum, each weighing more than 200lbs. At record-breaking speed, each wheel will become a centrifuge, subjecting the rim to the same G forces scientists use to separate DNA out of cells. At 1,000mph the radial load on each of Bloodhound SSC's wheels will be ~50,000G. It’s disk brakes are only meant to be used under 200mph. The car should reach 800 to 850mph in 2015, and then coming back the following year to hit 1,000mph. In Cook’s latest interview with The Wall Street Journal, the Apple CEO largely reiterates his comments about the company’s values and the product creation process but also expanded on his opinion of mobile payments. Cook said that their strong results should qualm some of the recent anti-Apple chatter. However, he added that it will likely take the addition of some new products to change people’s minds… As you might expect, Cook repeated his comments about new product categories without being the least bit specific. Cook echoed the message that new products are under development, but is in no rush to release something until it is ready. “You want to take the time to get it right. Our objective has never been to be first. It’s to be the best. To do things really well, it takes time. You can see a lot of products that have been brought to market where the thinking isn’t really deep and, as a consequence, these things don’t do very well. We don’t do very many things so we spend a lot of time on every detail and that part of Apple isn’t changing. It’s the way we’ve operated for years and it’s the way we still operate. I feel great about what we’ve got coming. Really great and it’s closer than it’s ever been” Samsung Gear is actually a great example. I guess when they heard that Apple was working on iWatch, they decided to release one as early as possible to snatch the smartwatch market The “closer than it’s ever been” comment is strange, almost meaningless, but not expected. Aside from saying that their pipeline is “really great”, Cook is never going to spoil the ‘surprise’. While Apple’s current products are doing great, quoting Apple’s 15% EPS growth, he said new things will “make it better.” There is one area of intrigue though. Daisuke Wakabayashi asked Cook about the mobile payments market. “I think it’s a really interesting area. We have almost 800 million iTunes accounts and the majority of those have credit cards behind them. We already have people using Touch ID to buy things across our store, so it’s an area of interest to us. And it’s an area where nobody has figured it out yet. I realize that there are some companies playing in it, but you still have a wallet in your back pocket and I do too which probably means it hasn’t been figured out just yet.” This lines up with what Cook said on the call, about looking for new ways to monetize the customer base. In the first-quarter call, Cook even more strongly hinted that Apple is working on something in this space in relation to Touch ID. How much hassle is there when it comes to drivers? Is it mainly for the bragging rights of saying "I have a Hackintosh" or is there any tangible benefit? Is it a pain in the butt to set up (generally speaking)?
