Quality, aesthetics, acoustics, and ease of installation aren't accounted for. This is not a list of recommendations. A low tier cooler isn't necessarily bad nor a high tier cooler necessarily great. Assess what's appropriate depending on your needs. Coolers in Tier 1 generally perform better than coolers in Tier 2 and so on.. Greetings, I need some advice for buying the right PSU for my system. I was looking at the PSU tier list (https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/631048-psu-tier-list-updated/) and i was wondering, 'do i really need a Tier 1 or Tier 2 PSU for my system?' I can't and won't overclock. I use this system mostly to render stills and using applications like AutoCAD, Photoshop, Vray, Revit, SketchUp. I also game on it but not more than 6hrs. I plan on upgrading the GPU to a Gtx 1060. SO the main question, do i really need a top three tier PSU or i can use a mid-budget unit from a reliable brand. Hey all, The past 3 months I have been getting restarts while gaming. I RMAd my motherboard, GPU and PSU. The PC would just turn off and turn on, no BSOD. Then I would get reboot loops where the PC wouldn't even post. I called in backup and the tech guy said my PSU was the problem, even though I just got a new RMAd one. I'm going to try and get a new one, even though my PSU is a well rated one. I was thinking 1000w, I know it's overkill but I thought my current PSU was fine so why not. I did plenty of calculator programs and they all said around 450w, I am wondering why my PSU is having issues. Is it because my 1080 is a FTW edition and uses two VGA cables? Perhaps my PSU is fine and my house has unstable voltage? Not sure. I was thinking another EVGA but the tech guy said he wasn't fond of them and sees them way too often. However I'm not a fan of the Corsiar fan on top because my case has a PSU shield on top and dust filter on bottom. I know 850 is plenty but I rather get 1000 because now I am paranoid. So my PC build is around a year old and about 3 months ago I ran into a problem. Whenever I would play games the PC would restart. No BSOD, just turns off then back on. I checked my temps. and my GPU was at 78C in the Fortnite home screen. Also my CPU temps were spiking so I thought my mobo was having issues. Long story short I RMAd my mobo and the tests came back ok. So I thought if my mobo was fine the GPU must be faulty. I RMAd my GPU and then put my rig back together but I encountered the same problem. It must be my PSU right? I RMAd that bad boy and boom, same issue. I even got a restart while just using a web browser. Also now what happens is the PC restarts randomly it will get caught in a boot loop. Sometimes it won't even post. Then it takes me to the Windows recovery menu. I also tried no surge protector, with surge protector, plugged into a different wall socket, nada. Ran Windows Memory Diag, everything was fine. Tried running with each individual stick, no luck. Updated BIOS, drivers, did a Windows reset Maybe the RAM stick beds are bad especially #2 where is what ASUS wants for single module use? But the mobo just came back ok...so I don't think so. Maybe new software or drivers are conflicting? Could my CPU have died? Perhaps I need to do a super clean install using a usb? Tier Lists are a joke The primary problem with a tier list is it doesn't take into account an end user and his or her specific needs. Instead what it does is generalizes units, some units which have been reviewed based on more parameters than others. Nobody should use power supply tier lists because they stink. People take them so seriously, and they only cause more harm than good. They don't take into account an end user (purchaser) and his or her needs. It is also severely biased by whoever created the list. Why then did I once make this list? Because I was a fool. I now know more, I dedicate a lot of my time to becoming more intelligent and learning more about power supplies. I know a gazillion more things than I did when I made this piece of trash list. Every tier list should be deleted, they are not good at all.
