I built my new pc, everything works well but it started making Wired ticking noises. The noise still continues after all of my fans are turned off(including psu fan) and the noise gets louder when I play games but it disappears when I put my fans into full speed. VID_20240114_215443.mp4

Hello! So, back in 2019 I had some issues with my old PSU, so I bought a new one of the model: be quiet! Pure Power 11 600W CM. It's been working great, but lately I've started hearing this weird ticking/clicking noise from the computer. I went through all the fans (except the PSU), holding my finger against them to ensure that they were not the culprit. And when trying to localize the sound, I think it's most reasonable that the sound is coming from the PSU. So, here is a video of the sound (I also attached the video to this post to make sure that at least one mirror works) video-1647436132.mp4 So, the noise isn't constantly going on, it's like once every 20 seconds, and it goes on for about 5 seconds. To my untrained ear, it sounds like something is shaking/wobbling, but I'm not sure. What can I do? I've heard that you shouldn't really open PSUs unless you know what you're doing. All the best, Hugorm video-1647436132.mp4

So I've got a bit of a janky setup. I've "custom" built my own 7.1 setup using a Logitech x-530 5.1 speaker set plugged into my mobo, and used another 2.1 Logitech set I had in the unused side speaker slot. It works fine, but the BASS speaker for the 2.1 set has a terrible clicking noise I would very much like to fix. I'm wondering if it's an amp issue because the sound from the side speakers seems quieter than the 5.1 set. Also, I have a FiiO olympus (external usb dac) that I use for my headphones, and that suffers from a very similar noise which in my research I have been told is a power issue as well. My mobo is an MSI Z77A-G45 powered with an OCZ 550w fatal1ty psu. I've tried using a different Logitech 2.1 speaker set with no change. Do I just need to go for a soundcard? I've never shopped for an internal one before so what should I look for? Thanks in advance

I recently bought a PC build, and when i try to plug in my EVGA 400w B1 to the power adapter (three pin to wall) it makes a strange ticking noise and doesn't boot up the system. The fan on the PSU doesn't even start! Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

So I've been having this issue now for a week or so and yesterday I wen't to diagnose it, the main suspect was my Hyper 212 Evo, so I tried plugging it out and booting to no avail, the sound still persisted so I plugged it in again, after trying each fan I came to a conclusion that it was one of my Corsair AF140s that made the sound, so I screwed it out and took it out of the case, after this I went downstairs to show my dad the fan and explain the problem, so he grabbed it and spun it e.t.c and while he was doing that I noticed a click sound that happened when the fan was upside down (outtake) and he shook it, so now I'm wondering if maybe I should make them intake and try that. To add to that I discovered after taking out that fan that the noise persisted but for a shorter period of time and at a lower volume. Before I did this the noise would go on for 30 minutes before disappearing now it only lasted for 10 seconds. To add to injury the fan was plugged into CPU optional and now my Hyper 212 has to work harder making it just as noisy as before. The case is a Fractal Design Define R5 Windowed and it had 5 fans before (now 4) of which 3 where AF140 and the other 2 where the included FD fans 4 of these fans where plugged into my mobo (Asus Maximus IX Hero) in 3 of which where plugged into CHA-1 to 3 and the other one in the CPU-OPT plug. The last fan is connected to my ASUS Strix 1080Ti OC and only turns on after the GPU hits 60C. The AF140s where all plugged into the mobo and the one above the heatsink was plugged i to CPU-OPT. All of them where exhausts (top and back) aswell as the Hyper212. The FD fans are intakes and are at the front, one of which (bottom) is plugged into the GPU. All of them are set to Standard airflow in the BIOS. As of right now the system runs stable without it but I am worried that the same might happen to other 2 fans. And I'm not stupid, the fan screws are tightened and theres nothing in the way of the fan. Any suggestions are a huge help, thanks!

I’ve searched around online and there is a high pitch whine everyone as gotten but I’ve been getting a ticking sound. The ticking is there when the system first boots and then it subsides but when I run a game it starts again. I’m starting to believe I got a broken mobo. :( Here are my system specs: cpu: Ryzen 3700x ram: Corsair LPX 32gb 3200mhz xmp enabled Gpu: MSI gaming x 1080ti w/ nzxt g12 mod PSU: xfx black 850w OS: windows 10 Annoying ticking thanks in adacanced for your input!

I'm hearing a strange noise (video attached), which I can only describe as a ticking coming from inside the case of my PC. The sound only starts after Windows has booted (not present in either BIOS setup or at login screen), I can only assume it's being driven by software of some sort, but can't figure out what it would be. I've already ruled out (I think) most of the hardware by booting up without any case fans or GPU, and I've changed the AIO. I don't have any mechanical hard drives. Has anyone had anything like this before? Any suggestions as to what could be causing this? OS: Windows 10 64 bit 1809 Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E, running BIOS 1803 CPU: Intel i7 8700k RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz (2x 16GB) GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2070 PSU: Corsair Tx650m PC Noise.mp4

Hey guys, I recently just bought new parts to upgrade my PC (A new Mobo, CPU, CPU cooler and Case). I finished building it and went to test it, but when turning the PSU power switch on it starts ticking. When everything is connected all the LEDs (Front Panel Power Button, GPU, etc.) turns on and flashes in unison with the ticking. All the fans come on aswell. The Computer doesn't power on from pressing the power button at all. I detached everything and took the Motherboard out of the case to slowly start putting things back one by one to see if I could find the faulty part doing that, but the problem still persists with nothing but the Motherboard connected to the PSU and everything else detached from the Mobo. I made sure the 24 pin was plugged in correctly. Also I cant find the green light on the Mobo (Whether it's not turning on making it impossible to see or i'm just blind) So is this a faulty Motherboard, or a faulty PSU. Power is clearly going through to the different parts since the LED's flash on and off. Is there a reliable way to check. I am still pretty new to all this since i've only ever built 1 PC and this is my first upgrade to it. Mobo: Asrock z370 Pro4 PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 750w CPU: Intel 8700 CPU Cooler: Hyper 212x Coolermaster GPU: MSI AMD r9 390 Case: NZXT H500 I also have 3 CHA fans connected and the 1 CPU fan, but 750w should be powerful enough to power it and the problem persists when none of it is plugged in. Any help is much appreciated! Video of Problem: https://www.dropbox.com/s/68cczgmimqffdl3/20190104_134603.mp4?dl=0 (Also sorry about the loud desk fan in the background)

Hello everyone. So I've got this new PC right, bout 9-10 days old now. And I'm very worried about two things with it, even though the performance is amazing, never had anything like it before, but that's why every noise makes me worried, invested like 3 monthly wages into the rig... Specs: -Windows 10, 64 bit -i7 8700k -16GB Trident Z RGB -1080 Ti OC Strix -ASUS Z370-E mobo -CORSAIR RM750X PSU -ML240L Liquid AIO -HGST 2TB SATA3 -SAMSUNG 960evo 250gb NAND -Apacer AS340 120gb SSD -Bios version: 4/11/2018 So this is what's up: -If I turn the PC off, leave it like that for a couple of hours- say overnight... It happened twice now that when I turn it back on, the ML240L will start making a fast ticking noise, kind of like crickets in summertime, or like a cable is brushing up against a fan, even though it's not, I checked multiple times... I will add recordings of the noise. When the system starts up it's pretty dang noticeable, then it gradually gets quieter, even stops making the noise and sometimes it will randomly come back... I also noticed that sometimes my AIO will make a bubbly noise, sometimes while starting up programs/games. I can't really find anything on the internet about this... The cricket/ticking noise that is, I already found out that the bubbly noise could be just air inside the AIO which I understood is nothing to worry about. At first I thought it's the fans of the AIO, but today I tried stopping each by gently pressing down on the center of them and nope, it wasn't that... I'm pretty sure it's from the pump or the tubes actually, not the fans. I'm considering sending it back to the store, they said it's no problem, that they'll check and all, but I just wanna make sure it's not something normal before I do so. -Second thing that worries me is whenever I turn the PC off, after it fully shuts down, after the MOBO disables all its lights etc. the HDD will make a screeching noise... Kind of like if you would scratch something against a piece of metal.. I've found some similiar videos of it on the internet and there's talk of bad bearings? Now if that's true, and it has bad bearings, will that affect it's performance/health or am I just gonna get the screech everytime the system turns off? Because if it's the latter then I don't really care, but if it can be dangerous/detrimental to the drive then yeah I'll send it back. Also it's probably good to mention that the S.M.A.R.T. checks that I've done so far with different programs all say that the HDD is fine, I mean I've yet to run the extended long tests but all of the shorter tests say everything is fine. Also I think it should be said that the PC is performing beautifully, everything is fine. CPU (not overclocked, but didn't turn off MCE in BIOS) when idle/only using Google Chrome is somewhere between 30-35 celsius, when playing games it goes max to 60 but rarely. Although during video conversion from for example .mkv to .mp4 it goes up to 70 degrees celsius. The GPU is usually somewhere about 40-50 celsius when idle/using Google Chrome and just surfing the web. During games it gets up to 83 celsius sometimes but lately it's been performing at even under 80 celsius when playing in 4k and usually max/almost max settings. I've attached 3 videos so you guys can hear this stuff. There's the vid of the AIO noise which was recorded after the PC's been on for bout 3 hours... Then there's a video of the AIO noise when I turn on the system and lastly there's a video of the HDD noise when the system shuts down. AIO noise.mp4 AIO noise on startup.mp4 HDD noise on shutdown.mp4 That's it for now. I'm really thankful for anyone that will give their input, as I said this is my first proper big boy rig, so I'm worried about everything. But then again I don't wanna be sending it back to the store if this turns out to be just something normal... Thanks.

This issue has been pretty well documented, and the best coarse of action is just to RMA. But given current world events, I don't want to be stuck without a PSU for the next few weeks. I have an RM650x that works just fine, But ticks in fanless mode every few seconds. This is a pretty common failure that isn't dangerous to the system, and it's a first hand unit i bought January of 2020. Is there any way i can silence this in the mean time? Attached vid for reference. I wasn't doing anything taxing. It's slow, Louder in person, and extremely annoying.

hey, so a few weeks ago I sent in a power supply (thermaltake 650 watt standard psu) and my graphics card (evga 1070 ftw) because I was hearing a ticking sound but wasnt sure if it was coil whine from the gpu or something from the power supply. Memory express discovered that it was a ticking noise that was coming from the power supply but never told what caused the ticking. Well I just got a new one back and it is making the exact same noise. I went on some forms and people are saying that it is just a fan issue. Can this be concerning in the future or should I just get a different brand?

Hi everyone, I recently built my first pc. After the initial windows install, an audible ticking noise came from my case. I opened the case and disconnected the HDD (WD Black 2TB) and the noise was gone. It sounds like rain falling on a window and I was wondering if this sound is normal or if I should return the drive? The sounds only occur when the drive is used (e.g. installing games via steam). I did some research online and heard that WD blacks make noise, but I want to be certain. I also checked with the diagnostic tool from WD and it passed the test. For some additional info: MB: ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming Boot SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB HDD: WD Black 2TB Thanks in advance for the replies.

Hi guys! I've been subbed to Linus for a long long time and now i have registered to this community after all this time. I have just built a new rig and after couple of days my Seidon 120v v2 started acting weird... loudly... it produces this ticking/humming noise which is loud enough to annoy me enough unless i use headphones. Even if i turn on my fans to full speed it's still louder, it's hard to enjoy games or movies with it being so loud. I've done some research, but haven't found a solution to this, so i came here for help. I went to BIOS where i checked and the fan control panel said that the CPU FAN is running around 2320rpm while the Fan included is going around silent 780rpm. Changing the modes helps for a bit, but then starts again, but not as loud and the sound is a bit different. The cooling block is connected to the cpu_fan and the included fan is connected to cpu_opt. I made a little video about my problem, sorry for the bad quality since i dont have surgeon hands. https://youtu.be/nEx_2tP6HJw CM Storm Trooper Maximus Hero VII i7 4790k 4ghz GTX 660 8gb 1600mhz HyperX RAM Seidon 120v v2 SATA 500gb W7 64bit Ultimate - UDM

A few days ago i've build my very own pc with a i5-4690k and a aio liquid cooler from cooler master the nepton 240m. When i fired the pc up for the first time the pump immediately started to make a ticking noise like one a hhd makes. It is 10 times as loud en is overwhelming the sound of my stock fans from the h440 which are still quite loud as wel. the sound has its ups and downs but most of the time it's almost constant. it drives me crazy and i want to know if i can do something about it or if i should send it rma.

Hi Guys and Girls, since 2 Days i was able to hear a ticking in my PC, now i discovered that it is my 4 Year old Seagate Barracuda. Can i lose Files and will it die because of the ticking. What SSD/HDD should i get that is Fast and Quiet. Thanks for your Replys and sorry for my bad English.

Hi, My pc is supposed to be silent, but lately one of my hard drives is at low revs and is making a constant ticking noise (about 2 a second) then retracting when it is at idle. I can tell its the 1.5tb 7200rpm Seagate, here is its smart data page (from corsair toolbox) I seen on a couple forums that this 'ticking' can be meaningless and sometimes this ticking is a sign that the drive is about to die. The drive is about 5 years old and is rarely shutdown for a long period of time. is there anything that sticks out as a trouble in the smart data? I used corsair's toolbox cause the main boot drive is a corsair ssd and I already had it installed. judging by some of these ludicrously large numbers, are these numbers error's in the toolbox's interpretation of the data? When ever the drive is NOT at idle the ticking occurs. The drive held an operating system for about 2 years before upgrading to a ssd, here is the hard drive's current benchmark numbers:

Hello LinusTechTips users About a month ago I built my first PC, and originally I was using an AMD CPU and GPU (FX-8350 4,0Ghz and Radeon R9 290). but then I got a very nice deal for a GeForce GTX 780, grabbed it and sold the R9 290. A little bit later I also decided to go with Intel's i5 4670k as it suited my needs more, and with it I got the Asus Z87-A motherboard. Somewhere along the road my PSU has started to make a ticking sound. Chances also are that it's always been there but I hadn't noticed it because I had a really loud chassis fan which I have now removed. I took a sample of the suond and put it on YouTube: Everything works 100% fine, I haven't had any random crashes and generally the computer has been performing like a dream. That sound just not only worries me, but also annoys me. I first had a Corsair VS650w but when I first noticed that sound, I instantly switched the PSU to a ThermalTake 630w Smart SE. Both produce that same sound, yet I'm 100% sure it's coming from the PSU. So to me this is all very weird. Has anyone ever had a similar issue?

Now as you may know the GS700's fan stops when it can... But when it does there is an audible ticking noise. The noise goes away when the fan spins up, then comes back when it stops. Any ideas on how to solve it or what can be ticking? P.S. RMA-ing isn't an option. If it can't be fixed I have to live with it. :(

So i recently moved my PC into a new home( 450D) and one of the fans makes a loud ticking noise even when im holding it so its not vibration. Anyone experienced this before? easy to fix? or should i send the fan back
