  1. Hello everyone, I want to ask if anyone could help me check if the setup I wrote on the title would work. I currently have an i9-12900KF on an Asus Prime B660-PLUS D4, with 128GB of DDR4 RAM, a 3090, and a Blackmagic decklink quad 2. I've been looking into changing my monitor (Gigabyte M27Q) and using an LG UltraFine 4K that I also have. The problem, I think everyone would notice, is that the monitor is a Thunderbolt monitor designed for Mac. I've tried all sorts of cables and adaptors like the Delock 63928 because it's still cheaper than buying a new monitor that is equal to or better than the one I have, and one that is even close to the LG. So after many fails I've come to Thunderbolt add-on cards. I could buy an Asus ThunderboltEX4 that could easily work on my current mobo, but the PCI Express slot I would have to use is the one that my Decklink is currently using. Honestly, I wouldn't mind changing between the Thunderbolt card and the Decklink when necessary, but my boss doesn't approve of that and would prefer to have both cards on simultaneously. That's when the motherboard replacement comes. The Gigabyte Z690 UD DDR4 has 1 PCIEX16 and 2 PCIEX4 slots, and the manual of the Gigabyte GC Maple Ridge says it needs to be connected to a PCIEX4 slot. In the case of the decklink, it is currently connected to one of the 2 PCIEX16 slots on my current motherboard, so, would it work on the second PCIEX4 slot on the Gigabyte mobo? At the end of the day, I don't think I'll go on this route for the upgrade since I'll end up spending more money buying a new motherboard and a Thunderbolt add-on card, but I need to deliver all of the options we would have available. Thanks to everyone who takes a bit of their time helping me
  2. Hello, I am looking for a way to get USB3 over 20m (My PC is in another room across the hallway and I have the need for USB3 in the room where my monitors are) without chaining USB Hub's (as it is done for example in active USB cables as I had to find out sadly) I tried Thunderbolt with the corning cable with my ASUS ProArt Z690-Creator, but its just not working nearly reliable enough. I also tried 20m active cables, but best I found was one with 4 hubs chained in it, which limits me to 7/8 Usb Ports on the other end at best, 3 at worst. (I checked it with USB Device tree viewer) Thanks in advance.
  3. I've got a client looking for recommendations for monitors, if any, that can be both powered AND given video data over a single USB-C port. Having not needed to search for monitors for a while now I'm honestly a bit out of the loop, as most monitors I know of can only provide power to another device over their USB-C port opposed to powering the monitor. My client would be hooking two of these monitors onto a rolling desktop station via VESA mount and would be connected to a desktop PC. I know he would at least need an adapter to convert HDMI or DisplayPort to USB-C, or even a PCIe-based Thunderbolt 3/4 card for USB-C output with enough power for a monitor, but then the question comes back to if there are any monitors that can take power and video over USB-C. If anybody has recommendations for decent panels that fit this criteria, please let me know.
  4. Hello! I’m looking for a thunderbolt dock to support my two 1440p 144Hz monitors. While looking I have found a bunch of docks that have too much extra stuff I know will never be used. Does anyone have a recommendation for a dock without all this bloat? Thanks very much
  5. My laptop (HP Elitebook 840 G6) experienced some kind of issue when upgrading to Windows 11 and crashed completely. I used a recovery USB to restore it back to a blank Windows 10, however, now several features including and most especially the Video Out for the USB-C\Thunderbolt port no longer work. Not sure if this is meant to be over Thundebolt or USB-C DP Alt mode Device manager is showing issues with an I2C HID Device: This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the HID descriptor failed. If it helps, when I apply my USB-C display to another HP (a Probook I borrowed from work), when the display is attached a "Generic PnP Monitor" appears in 'Bluetooth & other devices' - this does no occur on the machine I'm having issue with. Can someone please help me restore this functionality. I've tried all number of different recovery drives and installing many many drivers, but it doesn't seem to work. Please help!
  6. howdy friends, been a while since I built a PC (used Macs for a while), and it’s time for a new computer (mostly video editing, gaming, and maybe light streaming) and a return to the Windows world. I have 3x thunderbolt-only displays (the old LG 27” first gen that doesn’t fall back to USB-C, and they don’t support daisy chaining) on my desk for work, and am hoping I can use the same ones for my new build, of course running the graphics through the GPU. Im having trouble finding out the best way to get this setup built—which MOBO (and/or upgrade card) would support 3? In a perfect world I would be able to basically KVM my setup and use the same peripherals for both systems with the flip of a switch. Any suggestions or experience you can share is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Budget: $2500-$3000 USD Parts: MOBO: ??? thunderbolt card?? GPU: 4080 Super (already ordered) CPU: 13900k or 14900k RAM: 32GB DDR5 Cooling: 360mm AIO
  7. What happens when two laptops are connected with thunderbolt usb c to c cable? Can someone enlighten me with photos and videos? Like what will it show in windows 11 settings?
  8. Has anyone here been able to get dp passthrough working through thunderbolt on the X670E Pro Art wifi mobo? I'm at wits end trying different cables and displays but the passthrough just wont work. I have a 3090 and currently have 1 monitor connected through HDMI and 1 through DP . For my 3rd dp port on the 3090 i have the display port cable that came with my mobo connected to the "dp i:n slot in my mobo as seen in the pic below but none of the displays connected through the thunderbolt 1 port or 2 port are working. Am I doing anything wrong? The strange thing is some display shows up in windows when i attach the monitor this way but I'm unable to identify it, change the resolution or chose options such as duplicate or extend. Everything is all greyed out and nothing shows up on NVidia control panel. My thunderbolt control center also shows no device connected I have the thunderbolt drivers installed from ASUS drivers sections and the latest 1807 bios Current things I've tested - 4 different USB-C monitors that work on usb-c and thunderbolt laptops - 3 different tested and working dp cables as passthrough - various USBC, USB4 and thunderbolt certified cables that work on laptops for display and charging on laptops - all dps on the 3090 as passthrough Is there something I'm overlooking?
  9. Hello! For my job, I have a laptop, and to be able to work from home, I received a docking station (Dell Dock WD19s). The docking station itself works very well, but I was wondering if it's possible to use the same docking station for my (gaming) desktop. Below are the specs: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x Asus ROG Strix X570-I Gigabyte RTX 3070 PSU Corsair SF600 (2018) I think I might need an adapter to make it possible, is that correct? I'm not sure exactly which one I need. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could provide me with tips in the right direction. I hope someone might be able to help me with this. Tobias Hoogers
  10. Hello everybody, I am now thing for a long time how to update my setup. My situation: Work Laptop: Lenovo T14 (Thunderbold 3 or 4) Desktop PC: GTX 970; I7 4770 Dual Monitor Setup (One is the Dell U2520D so I have already kind of a USB c Hub including daisy chaining another monitor) What I want to do: Update my desktop to either a Laptop or a more compact desktop like the dell Optiplex or something Get another monitor for triple monitor setup (likely two 1080 and one 4k) get a USB-C / Thunderbolt Hub that will support triple displays Switch between both Laptops by just switching one cable Current Issues I dont want to use DisplayLink as I dont want another software running in the background and I am not even sure if I have permission to install that on my work laptop As far as I understand Thunderbolt only supports dual monitors. (found a comment under the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 dock). I would have expected triple monitors not beeing an issue when running at 1080p. Dont really get that? There are some Docks out there that claim to support triple monitors anyways (e.g. This one) and dont seem to use display link as well. Is that maybe due to DisplayportAlt running independent of Thunderbolt? What would happen if I would connect to a usbc Port withour Thunderbolt but with e.g. USB 3.2 2x2. Would Thunderbolt docks still work? Is the Dual display limitation still the same? So you can see I am quite confused. Up to now I thought I was quite fast at picking up these topics. But the whole Thunderbolt, USB and display port situation seems just to be a mess atm. So thank you for any help. I also happy for some dock/hub recommendations PS: If anybody knows a USB-C / Thunderbolt switch, I am also thankful for recommendations. Seems also quite a small market...
  11. I just ran into a strange problem and I am looking for some advice. I recently purchased a Razer Core X egpu enclosure to use with my laptop. I have the i9 version of the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Ultra which does have a laptop 4070 in it which is really nice but it only has 8gb of vram. I have a 3090 that was in my prior computer so I got the egpu enclosure so that I could take advantage of the extra vram for simulations. I bought the enclosure off of ebay and it appears to be in good condition and it was packed very well. It arrived yesturday so I put my graphics card in it, fired it up, plugged my laptop in, and then recieved bad news. When the egpu is connected, the nvidia driver (which is up to date) seems to crash. My whole system starts to lag, I can't open windows settings, I can't open the nvidia control panel, and my laptop fan goes to maximum. I checked device manager and the intel graphics, 4070, and 3090 are all detected. The properties on the 3090 says it works fine but it definitely doesn't and I don't have any display output though it. The 4070 says that windows can't access the driver. Win+ctrl+shift+b does flash the screen but has no effect. I assume that is because the intel graphics are running the display so it doesn't actually restart the nvidia driver. I tried rebooting and restarting the nvidia driver through task manager but neither did anything. When I unplug the egpu and even if I reboot the 4070 has the same error. The only way I have fixed it is by uninstalling the nvidia driver. Sometimes when I reboot after the uninstall, the driver is magically back and working but other times I have to reinstall the driver manually and that fixes it. Any ideas? I am really lost here and any input would be really helpful. Also, I am using a 3ft usb-c 240watt 40gbit cable. Strangely, when I plug it into my laptop, I also get a windows notification saying I would get faster charging if I plug into a faster charger. I thought this enclosure was supposed to put out 100 watts which is what my laptop takes so I am confused why it isn't getting that. Do I have a bad cable? I don't have any faster cables and this one was fine with my 10gbit ssd but I guess 40gbit is a lot more than that. Is that the potential source of error is there something else I should check?
  12. I have an old Hp Elitebook 840 G5, it has a Thunderbolt port and a docking port. My desktop/gaming pc has a thunderbolt (and output hdmi port) Can I somehow connect my desktop to my laptop and use the laptop as a display? (I know the laptop hdmi port is an Output port only, but what about the thunderbolt port?) Also would it be possible to do the same except using the laptop as a display for my Xbox Series S
  13. Hi everyone, long time lurker, (almost) first time poster. I'm looking to purchase a laptop that has two full Thunderbolt 4 ports available, ideally x4 each. I thought at first that this would be a simple request, but it turns out that getting the actual specs to whats behind those ports is very difficult and time consuming. Initially, I purchased the HP Omen 16-k0000ca - but learned that it's two "Thunderbolt" ports are actually Thunderbolt emulation over USB4. This led to some serious stability issues and I wound up returning the device. Specifically, I'm looking for a device that can utilize multiple external PCI-e enclosures for video capture/driver cards (not e-GPUs). I've had great success with this setup on both Intel-based Macbooks as well as a random Razer notebook I was able to pick up at Micro Center, but seeing as I would like to deploy a few of these, I'm looking to spec compare and futureproof a bit. The closest resource that I've found for anyone putting together some comprehensive research is this: https://www.ultrabookreview.com/10579-laptops-thunderbolt-3/ but unfortunately the list appears out of date at this point. Can anyone point me to some research about the current offerings in the marketplace for multiple Thunderbolt port laptops? Thanks all! whytheheckme
  14. I need help ! Questions: Why is the display are not detected on my freshly builded PC with (Thunderbolt)? And I don't understand why its working on my laptop? 15. Hello all, Looking for assistance troubleshooting a problem with a thunderbolt dock into a computer. I have a dell precision 7820 that I installed a StarTech USB-C PCIe Card (Found here) When using smaller USB-C docks I can detect drives connected but only after disabling then enabling the PCIe card. When I try to plug in a thunderbolt dock (OWC Thunderbolt 3 Dock) I get the error "Thunderbolt may have limited functionality" and nothing plugged into the dock is detected. I am using the included Thunderbolt cable that came with the dock (Has a lightning symbol with a 3 on the connector), I have drivers updated for the computer, pcie card, and even one that came for the dock and still nothing. I even have the thunderbolt option enabled with no security in the bios. I'm hitting a wall of I don't know what else I can check to get this thunderbolt dock to work. Any suggestions?
  16. Are there any good thunderbolt hubs that only have USB ports? Ive been looking but I can only find docks with some USB and other things I dont really need.
  17. Will it work for real if yes can ltt make a video about it
  18. Hello everyone! I recently bought an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop with the AMD chipset which doesn't support thunderbolt for some reason. That being said, I want to purchase some kind of easy, one-cable solution to plugging my 1440p 240Hz monitor (and use as close to it's full capabilities as I can, plugged in preferably through displayport 1.4), a keyboard (USB-A), headphones (USB-A), a microphone (USB-A), some kind of charging higher than the power consumption at load, maybe speakers (USB-A) and a mouse (USB-A) and an ethernet cable that works well with USB-4 (apparently it's flakey with thunderbolt devices even though thunderbolt is in the spec). Do you guys have any suggestions for a dock that would work for me?
  19. Hello, I hope all of you are having a wonderful day so far! So I'm planning my new build, and I'm trying to find the right cables in order to connect my 4 monitors. I've been searching for different 1.4 optic fiber display port cables (10m+), but they all seem to have quite dubious claims and the reviews mention a lot of problems with overheating and lifespan issues. I have 3 monitors 1 of which i would like to run at 4k 144 hz, the other 2 monitors I do not care about and could run at something like 1920x1080p 60hz, and finally I'm also connecting my TV, but the PC would be right behind the tv, so a 1m HDMI will suffice there. I plan on having the PC ~10m away from my actual monitors. I also plan on having something like Linus setup with running a optic fiber thunderbolt cable to a Caldigit hub for all my peripherals, however it only offers 2 displayport downstream ports and I'm unsure that it would be able to handle 4k at 144hz. So my question is would this Caldigit hub be able to support 4k at 144hz and a second monitor with 1920x1080p 60hz, and would I also then be able to run something like a very long and very short HDMI cable for the last monitor and TV? If not do you have any suggestion for long display port cable which would be 10m+ and run 4k 144hz? I would be really grateful for any and all suggestions since I am quite new to this and have no clue what I'm doing. Have a great rest of your day! EDIT: this might not even be possible, if so please inform for me of my stupidity!
  20. Hi everyone! I have an 2017 27” iMac and I’m looking for an usb c / Thunderbolt hub / dock for my imac Today I’m running: USB c to HDMI USB C to charger USB A to: keyboard, mouse, streamdeck and external mic Everything I have a look has 12, 15, 20 ports and things but i feel that half of them i will not use. So anyone has any idea of a reasonable priced hub / dock that has: 3 usb-c / Thunderbolt out ports 3 USB As 1 hdmi or dp I don’t need Ethernet, card readers or audio. Thanks for the help!
  21. I am new to the realm of Hi-Res Lossless audio and I am encountering an interesting issue between a 2021 M1 Max MBP and a 2019 Intel MBP in regards to audio playback from Apple Music. The 2021 MBP is my personal computer while the 2019 MBP is my work computer. Firstly, some background on my computer/desk setup. Both computers connect to the a Satechi Thunderbolt 4 Dock (one at a time). The dock then connects two Dell U2720QM 4K monitors, 4K j5create webcam, an external drive that acts as a Time Machine, and finally it connects to my Klipsch R-51PM speakers via one of the Thunderbolt 4 ports on the dock. The speakers also connect to a Klipsch R-12SW subwoofer (overkill, I know). In any case, I noticed that when I connect or wake my personal 2021 MBP with M1 Max that I am greeted with a warning message saying something like "USB Accessories Disabled - drawing too much power." This only started happening after I connect my Klipsch R-51PM's. However, I noticed that when I connect my 2019 MBP that I never get such a message. On top of that, I noticed that my 2019 MBP will play supported music at 24-bit 98kHz ALAC whereas my M1 Max MBP will top out at 24-bit 48kHz ALAC and then display a suggestion saying that Hi-Res Lossless is also available. To try and mitigate the issue on my M1 Max MBP I have tried connecting the speakers directly to the computer instead of the dock and I find that I am unable to switch the Sound Output to the Klipsch speakers as the machine does not recognize the connected speakers when also connected to the Thunderbolt 4 Dock. So, considering how the M1 Max MBP supports Thunderbolt 4 and the 2019 MBP only supports Thunderbolt 3, why am I getting warnings that my USB devices are drawing too much power only on my M1 Max MBP? Does the 2019 MBP have a higher power delivery via Thunderbolt than the 2021 MBP? Is it the "sound card" within the machines that is different, etc.? More or less, I'm looking for a plausible solution to handle both machines while resolving the supposed power issues on my M1 Max MBP and to also have that machine output higher quality audio content. I'll reiterate that I am fairly new to the Hi-Res audio community so I probably will not understand any complex jargon associated with speakers and hi-res audio. On a side note, is it good practice to plug Klipsch R-51PM speakers into a surge-protected power strip? I noticed that I get some humming and what I could only describe as "humming bubbles" when the speakers are connected to such a device? Also, the constant humming does not seem to go away when connected to a regular wall outlet, so any mitigation steps would be appreciated for this situation.
  22. Does anyone know how can I use the Thunderbolt header on the Valkyrie motherboards? The 9-pin header appears to be quite different from what I'm used to seeing on the Gigabyte, ASRock, and Asus TB headers. This particular header is from the Z790 Valkyrie: Any ideas or suggestions? Ideally, I would prefer to use a card like the Gigabyte GC-Maple Ridge, but I'm unsure of its compatibility with this motherboard. Despite my attempts to reach out to Biostar's support team, I have yet to receive a response, which is quite discouraging.
  23. Reading the Anandtech review it has two Thunderbolt 4 connections, four 10 Gbps USB Type-A's, and two 2.5G Ethernet ports. Looks to be a solid motherboard choice for a mid-range content creation workstation. Something with more power then a "every dollar counts" budget build but less cost then a full fat Threadripper system. Expected April release with an $299 MSRP. https://www.anandtech.com/show/16525/asus-unveils-first-amd-am4-with-thunderbolt-4-the-proart-b550-creator
  24. My motherboard: https://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/Z370%20Extreme4/index.asp#Download TB3 card: https://www.asrock.com/mb/spec/product.asp?Model=Thunderbolt%203%20AIC GPU : https://www.palit.com/palit/vgapro.php?id=3883&lang=en Im trying to get display via thunderbolt. The manual for the aic says to connect displayport to the tb3 card and to the gpu, then connect monitors to the dock. Im using this dock: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05913756 But i only get video out of the TB3 when booting (uefi) but when window loads the display goes black and says it has no signal. Ive tried updating firmware on my dock and my tb3 card. What can i do to get this working?
  25. Hello, a few days ago I posted this : I need help with my Razer Blade and Razer's "support" team. : razer (reddit.com) TLDR : I bought a Thunderbolt 4 (TB4) laptop (Blade Stealth late 2020). The laptop was not able to handle 2 external monitors plugged in the same TB4 port while this ability is mandatory in the Thunderbolt 4 specification. I reached out to Razer Support and during months they muddied the waters by giving me nonsense answers (like asking me to use the HDMI ports on my laptop which doesn't have any). AND TODAY, after months of tearing my hair out, they finally admitted this : Thank you for the response. This is YY once again from Razer Systems Support. With regards to our previous conversation, I have forwarded your case to our senior specialist for further clarification and information about your device specs. And yes, we have confirmed from them that your device has already a thunderbolt 4 port on the right side, however, this can only accommodate one external monitor. This doesn't support two external monitors at the same time. With regards to returning the product, I would like to set your expectations properly that we only have 14 days return warranty period. As much as we want to process a refund for you, however, we are unable to do so since it is beyond the return coverage. You can also check this link for your reference: https://www.razer.com/legal/returns-refunds We understand your frustration with the device feature and we apologize for this resolution that we have for your case. This is not the experience that we would want you to have from us but we are here to help you through your case as well as follow the processes and policies from our end. We appreciate your patience and understanding. In any event that you will need further our assistance, please don't hesitate to reply to this email. Here are the official specifications for Thunderbolt 4 : What should I do now ? They admitted their lie but they won't refund me. Who should I contact ? I've never been in that sort of situation where a company didn't respect their engagement and don't want to make amends for it. Thanks for reading me.
