Alright, so this is absolutely not a critical issue, but it's persistent, strange, and a little annoying. I'm on windows 10, and I have a music playlist that I often listen to using VLC. Audio files such as mp3, m4a, flac, etc., have thumbnail images somehow baked into them. When I open my music folder in windows explorer, most of my audio files will display their album art image as their thumbnail, while a few will not and show the default, the icon of the app that opens it (the VLC pylon in this case). When I open my playlist with VLC or iTunes, this behavior is similar, in that most of the album art thumbnails will load correctly. The problem isn't just that some don't work, it's that it's not consistent at all. Some album art thumbnails will only show in explorer, some will only show in VLC, and some will only show in iTunes. Some will show with two of these methods, but not through a third. With a few affected songs, windows explorer will occasionally show the correct album art, but at random. VLC seems to be the most competent at displaying album art over all, with iTunes and explorer having similar but not identical results. All programs will occasionally show the wrong thumbnail, using art from a different song. The files themselves come from a variety of sources, such as CD rips, game data, the iTunes store, bandcamp, and 7digital, though this doesn't seem to influence the reliable displaying of the thumbnail. Here's where I really start to wonder, though; sometimes VLC and iTunes will display different thumbnails for a song. Sometimes both are appropriate, with one being more specific to the song, and one being of the album it came from, though sometimes the image is for something else entirely. An example being the Airwolf Theme, which explorer can't ever load the image for, VLC shows a picture of the titular helicopter from the show, and iTunes shows... something to do with a concert featuring music from the same composer? That particular example gets even weirder, because I downloaded that song from YouTube due to being unable to find it anywhere else. The original YouTube video was just footage from the show. Where did those thumbnail images even come from? My assumption up until now was that the thumbnail image is added by whoever encodes the mp3. I intend to replace the thumbnail images for a lot of these songs. Is there something I can do with the images I choose to guarantee, or at least better the odds, that they work consistently? Maybe something to do with resolution or filesize, I don't know. Anyway, thanks for reading.

I've been having a problem with my new laptop and it is truly aggravating, especially since because what most of what I do is image based. I had A LOT of files on my old Windows 7 laptop going back 10+ years that I needed to move to my new Windows 10 laptop. I initially tried moving files via an ethernet cable between the two by following guides since I didn't really know how. It wasn't working. After many hours of trying to troubleshoot, changing settings of files etc, having trouble with permissions stuff etc... It worked momentarily then stopped. So I had to give up and try another way. I decided the best way to go about it would be to copy everything over to a new external drive (I needed to make a big backup anyway) and then copy them over to my new laptop. It appeared to go well, until I noticed something. Creating new files on the new laptop? Totally fine. The files copied over? No unique thumbnails for things like image files and video files. Instead they just the default Windows icon designs - Which means I can't see what things like images/videos are unless I individually open each one, which is just not workable obviously. I've tried multiple things - File Explorer Options > making sure that 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' is unchecked. I also tried checking it, applying, and un-checking it again because "you never know". File Explorer Options > General tab > Restore Defaults File Explorer Options > View tab > Restore Defaults Right-click folder > Properties > Customize > Restore Default Disk Cleanup > thumbnails Windows' File and Folder Troubleshooter Command Prompt > sfc /scannow Command Prompt > taskkill /f /im explorer.exe > del /f /s /q /a %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\thumbcache_*.db > start explorer.exe Not a single thing has worked so far, and like I said, I can't get any work done because my image and video files are so extensive, go back a decade, and I use them every day. A good chunk of LTT videos suffer from these problems, but not all of them. Most are really good, and its why this confuses me more than it probably should. First of all, I wanna make it clear that I don't think Linus makes "clickbait" content per-say, I just believe that as the channel keeps on growing the titles and thumbnails of some of these videos are extremely misleading and don't accurately represent the actual effort put into these videos; The production value of LTT videos is amazing now, and it is hard to complain about the way the videos are structured. but, a good chunk of videos released do not have any information about the product in either the title or thumbnail. Thumbnail 1: My monitor just got an UPGRADE This example contains no information about the product in the video, and the only clue about what the video is about is that Linus is reviewing a new monitor. What monitor? Thumbnail 2: THIS is a power supply?? Literally no information about the video except that it contains a PSU. No info on what the PSU is unless you have a sharp eye and see the Seasonic logo in the thumbnail. Is this a review? Thumbnail 3: Buy a computer. Right now. This one is a good example of some of the worse ones. It is pretty clickbaity, going the opposite route by being a simple title to make it seem serious, and it doestndescribe the video well.This one bugs me too because the video itself is really really good. Why do the titles and thumbnails need to be so non-descriptive?

I'm having a problem with my Windows 10. Lately, the little corner icons on my desktop's thumbnails (the ones with the curved arrows that tell you they are shortcuts) change, for whatever reason, into different icons. I had installed Folding@home before that happened so I presumed that might have caused it. I removed it but the problem persisted and, one time, my keyboard layout even went messed up. A good reboot did get rid of the problem but only temporarily. I figured it might've been malware, so I decided to wipe my hard disk drives, using DBAN and reinstall Windows 10. But just today, I experienced the problem yet again! Please see the attached image. So what it actually going on? Has anyone else experienced this issue before? I'll be glad to answer any questions if it helps get to the bottom of it. P.S. Im working on a video with some friends and Im sorting throught the good and bad takes. For some reason in windows explorer, some video thumbnails are scaling and some are staying the same size when I increase the thumbnail size. Does anyone know what going on here? Notice how the videos near the top have a larger thumbnail size than the ones near the bottom. They are all the same video format.

Been watching LTT for a long time, always a good way to start or finish a day. But lately the really dumb thumbnails have gotten to a point that it really stops me from watching, it's almost as bad as those thumbnails that are just photoshoped pictures of a plane crashing into cars or other click baity pictures. Like the one where Linus has 2 mini graphics cards in "The TINIEST Nvidia SLI Setup EVER?" Look I get it, this is a business, people don't work for free, and the 140k red camera doesn't buy itself. And if thumbnails like this get you more views then well, fuck it right? That being said, I just thought i should give some feedback from someone who has watched a lot of your content and just can't stand the click bait direction you guys have headed. Thought that any feedback is good feedback. Just my 2 cents.

Today youtube announced they are running experiments on custom thumbnails STAWPOLE.ME https://www.strawpoll.me/15990477 How important is this issue to you? "We are running a small experiment where 0.3% of viewers will see an auto-generated thumbnail, instead of your custom thumbnail. We are not removing the ability to create your custom thumbnail, but we hope to gain insights on auto-generated thumbnails for the future."

So this just happened in the most recent Gamers Nexus video's comment section after they used a funny thumbnail.

This problem started recently, and at first I though it was my internet, since results on speedtest.net were lower than general. I narrowed it down to chrome after opening up Edge and seeing that it loaded everything fine. example: http://prntscr.com/bx8cw6 Not all thumbnails are borked, and anything other than youtube works fine, but 90% of my internet use if youtube so thats an issue. Is there a way of fixing this without loosing all of chrome's saved passwords and autofill features?

Hello about 6 months ago I opened a gaming youtube account however it was shortlived as it was banned not too long after. To this day I still don't have a clear answer why my account was permanently banned.The videos I had posted was just me playing Borderlands The Pre-Sequel however with the game audio muted because of all the content id stuff on youtube and an running commentary from me. I've run youtube channels before and there all still good standing today. My only difference is that on this channel I created custom thumbnails to try and add a few more viewers and look more professional. All I did was take a picture off Google of the game from the trailer as I made it before the game was released.I then added the games logo and the words playthrough pt.x in a similar font to the games. After checking youtube's copyright page o still don't have an answer. Can anybody help me out? And I apologise is this isn't the correct place to post this.

So is there a way to turn off the thumbnails on youtube? More specifically, specifically Linus's thumbnails since they're idiotic. I know Linus said they are only doing this because it attracts more views, but honestly I don't give a fuck about their views. Those thumbnails need to stop. And since he won't stop, I have to ask is there a way maybe with an adblocker or something to just turn off those thumbnails or block them entirely?
