  1. My laptop has been stuttering and laging for like 2 weeks now. I tried cleaning it and repasting but nothing works. Then i checked my cpu/gpu temp and clock speed on HWINFO64 and it showed everything normal except for this "Thermal Throttling HTC" and "Thermal Throttling PROCHOT EXT". Prochot CPU is fine and the clock speeds are constant at 400MHz even though my cpu's base speed in 2.10GHz. If anyone can tell me any solution to this or to direct me in finding the root of this cause it'd be a great help. CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500U (Base speed: 2.10 GHz, 4 Cores) GPU: AMD Radeon Vega 8 Mobile(Integrated) Memory: 8 gb dual slot, 2400 MHz and 512 gb ssd (WD Green SN350) If required any other information pls ask.
  2. hi , i own a dell g15 5510 gaming laptop that packs an i7 10870h with an RTX3060 , i noticed while playing a new game (the finals) some performance issues , therefore i started investigating . i enabled the msi afterburner overlay to check the temps and clock speeds , where i found the temps to be normal (cpu 60-70) (gpu 50-60) , but the issue is the cpu keeps throttling for some reason , i noticed it droping to 800mhz for 1 sec and then get back to 4.1ghz repeatedly , only to find out in the limits section a BD PROCHOT , i knew that the temps are fine , so i disabled the bdprochot setting from throttle stop which fixed it the new temps are (cpu 70-87) (gpu 60-70). but iam concerned . why does it happen in the firstplace , like it bursts the BD PROCHOT doesnt stay active all the time . only when gaming it happens . and the weird thing . i tried to keep the BD PROCHOT on and disable turbo boost which locked the cpu to its stock clock (2.2ghz) , only to find that performance issues are gone , the temps are low , the BD PROCHOT not happening . the only issue then is iam scarificing cpu potential performance. i did a test for about 10-15min and gathered the log files . hopefully it could lead to something . 2024-01-04.txt
  3. Hi, so I have Asus strix gtx 1060 6gb paired with i5-6600 and 16gb ddr4 2133mhz ram, I have stripped down version of windows(atlas os) and my CS2 is at lowest settings possible for 1080p, i get like 70fps and huge drops. I was wondering how much should I actually get? i think my card is thermal throttling as it goes up to 80°C with fans at 90-100%, I am going to repaste it but I wanted to know how much fps can I expect? Thank you shahzeb specs: strix gtx 1060 6gb oc i5-6600 Asus b150m.2 550w 250gb Sata ssd
  4. TLDR: Successfully applied Arctic Silver 5 and Arctic Thermal Pads to eliminate thermal throttling on MSI GS65 8RE gaming laptop. I have an MSI GS65 8RE Stealth Thin gaming laptop (i7-8750H, GTX 1060) which has suffered from thermal throttling ever since it was purchased in 2018. It's an old model and there are plenty of reviews so I won't get into any further details or comments about build quality, difficulty of upgrade and so on. Of course, if anyone reading this has any specific questions, please feel free to ask and I'll be happy to answer. To solve the thermal throttling problem, I first tried the following "non-invasive" measures with varying degrees of success but the problem was not eliminated; nor was I satisfied having paid for a moderately top-tier hardware package only to limit its capabilities in order to use it for its intended purpose. - Turning off Hyper Threading - Turning off Tubro Boost - Undervolting - Turbo Boost frequency limiting - Package power limiting During heavy gaming (I'm saying "heavy" relative to the performance capacity of this particular hardware) such as Jedi Fallen Order on "Epic" 1080p graphics settings, the CPU would hit 93C with the fans sounding like a 747 during takeoff. HWiNFO showed sustained thermal throttling with the CPU frequency hovering around 2.7Ghz whereas the i7-8750H is rated up to 4.1Ghz boost (2.2Ghz base). Cinebench R20 benchmark scores were hovering around 2250 (average of 3 consecutive runs). Obviously, I did not expect this 17.9mm-thick laptop to be equipped with a cooling solution that can handle the heat dissipation requirements of an i7-8750H processor at its specified 90W, 4.1Ghz boost power limit and frequency, respectively. I would settle for a sustained boost anywhere above 3.0Ghz at its Intel-designated TDP-down power limit of 35W, without thermal throttling being activated. I think that's a fair expectation for hardware at this price point. Having opened the laptop before for SSD and RAM upgrades, I was familiar with its internals. I had also read a lot of users complaining about thermal throttling and claiming they were able to fix it with a re-paste of the heat sink fan rig. So I took the plunge and re-pasted the HSF with Arctic MX-4 thermal compound. Ensuring proper contact upon replacement of the cooling hardware on the motherboard and taking care to not bend or twist any part of it, I closed up the laptop and booted. No improvement. I was disappointed, to say the least, and I began to regret my purchase. That was last year. Fast-forward to the present and I came across a post where a user had not only re-pasted the CPU and GPU but also replaced the thermal pads on the VRAM and other surrounding components. I decided to give it one last shot. I opened it up (this is an achievement by itself, just look up a teardown video), cleaned up the old paste, applied new paste and replaced the thermal pads. This time I used Arctic Silver 5 and Arctic Thermal Pads (1.5mm thick). I also did something that may be frowned upon: I replaced all thermal pads, regardless of stock pad thickness (which varied from 0.5mm to 1mm and 2mm in one area) with 1.5mm and a 1.5+1.5mm thermal pad sandwich for the 2mm. To make sure that the copper parts of the HSF rig were properly making contact with the CPU and GPU, I carefully placed the HSF rig back over the motherboard and held it in place without the screws. Then I meticulously squished each of the thermal pads where they were too thick, causing a gap between the other contact points. Now the HSF was sitting flat on the CPU and GPU. Next I slowly removed the HSF rig ensuring not to let the thermal pads peel off or shift. After applying the thermal compound on the CPU and GPU, I again placed the HSF rig back on and screwed it in place. I had extra thermal pad left over so I placed one on top of what looked like the PCH (maybe?), as well as beneath and above the two NVMe SSDs and on both RAM sticks. After closing up carefully ensuring all the cables and screws were securely in place, I booted up and ran Cinebench R20. To my absolute and complete delight, the core temp value reported by HWiNFO did not exceed 84C. By the way, I had a stable undervolt of -155mV already set, which obviously helped. The machine sustained a boost frequency around 3.3Ghz at 35W power limit and resulted in an average Cinebench score of 2460 over three consecutive runs. Other than undervolt and power limit, there are no other performance/heat limiting settings enabled. For good measure, I also ran Prime95 stress test and Unigine Heaven graphics benchmark to check system stability. All checked out. Temperatures did not exceed 84C. I want to clarify that this was in a non-AC room where the ambient was around 24C which is on the warm side of comfortable. Needless to say, thermal performance would be even better in a cooler environment. The Nvidia GTX 1060 hits 90C running Heaven benchmark on Extreme preset but the CPU caps out at 71C. The fans are loud, which is to be expected, but they run noticeably quieter than before. For reference, the max fan speed set in MSI Dragon Center is 65% for CPU and 75% for GPU. I hope this helps anyone else facing similar problems. And as I said earlier, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask!
  5. I have a Rysen 5800X being cooled by a Corsair H115i RGB PRO XT, 280mm AIO radiator. If I recall correctly, the AIO radiator came bundled with the 5800X when I bought it. I have precision boost overdrive on and if I recall correctly, I've got it slightly overvolted. When I have Folding@home running (CPU only, no GPU), it goes up to 92°C and stays there, drawing around 105 W. With this cooler, is this type of temperature expected at this power draw, or might I have set something up incorrectly (e.g. bad thermal paste application, or incorrect pressure between the CPU and cooler, or have fans blowing in the wrong way)? I tried looking up the cooling capacity of the H115i Pro XT 280mm, but I couldn't find a simple "it's good for up to X watts" answer. For additional context: When I start/stop intensive CPU activity, be it Folding@home or an AIDA64 stress test, the CPU temps rocket up / drop down to normal within a matter of seconds. I don't know the significance of this fact, though, nor do I know whether it's expected. Here's a screenshot of HWMonitor while Folding@home is running:
  6. Hi all! I've built myself a new PC a couple of weeks ago (specs at the bottom of the post), and it's honestly been pretty great so far. That is, up until I bought Baldur's Gate III. I'm literally not able to play it for more than an hour before my monitors go black and stop detecting any output from the GPU. At first, I thought that it was a driver issue since it was the most frequent answer to the problem after a quick search, but even with the latest drivers it would still do it. Updated Windows, same thing. Lowered graphics settings, same thing again. I was told that it was potentially an issue with corrupted files, but I quickly ruled that out after it happened with different games (like DiRT Rally 2.0, and even once with Minecraft shaders). At that point, I decided to try to game and check HWinfo as I played, to see if the issue was directly hardware related and not related to a driver or anything like that. Sure enough, by only booting the game, the GPU's temps rose drastically to reach thermal throttling (83°C) after not even a minute of being on the main menu. In addition, the hotspot got to 106°C. I attached a screenshot of the HWinfo report focused on some of the GPU info and the report itself, it's easy to tell when the game was booted. I bought the GPU second-hand, so I don't have a warranty on it. What are my options here? Can I just repaste the GPU, or is the problem potentially worse than that which would make it more worth my money to just get another GPU? 7. I had a new pc built from a pc shop and upon testing I found out that my i7 13700k was thermal throttling. It hits 100C on any stress test(Cinebench,AIDA64) and downclocks to 4.1-4.3ghz.I have a MSI Z790 Tomahawk DDR5 Motherboard with Deepcool LS 720 AIO.I only have one 8 pin cpu cable connected to the cpu.The additional 8pin cpu cable is missing.Would that lead to performance loss?My cinebench score was 25000 with the cpu running at 100c for 10mins.I tried undervolting, changing lite load,PL1,PL2 and nothing seems to fix the overheating problem.I also noticed my power usage only being at 120-140W.Ive seen videos of it drawing 200+.Is my aio (Deepcool LS720)not properly working?Radiator mounted on front.Case is coolermaster td500 mesh with front fans as intakes and top outtakes. Please help.
  8. Need some help guys as I'm testing the temps on my newly built PC. I did a full max 10 minute run on multi core test on Cinebench 23 The results on Hwinfo shows that the Hottest P-Core reached max temp of 87 C and the coolest P-core at 73 C but thermal throttling was triggered. my CPU over temp protection was set to 100 C which is still far from it. CPU : i9-13900(non k) (Arctic MX-6 paste and on Contact Frame) Cooler : Deepcool AK620 Motherboard : MSI B760 DDR4 Tomahawk PL 1 and PL 2 are both set on 160W CPU Lite Load is on Mode 9
  9. I have an RTX 2060 6gb. I’ve boosted the power limit to 113% and the clock speed is around 1800mhz using its boost system. Thermals are around 80-90 degrees during gta5 gameplay with a custom fan curve. During gaming I do see some thermal throttling where I see the temp raise to its 84° limit and then the clock reduces. But the reduced clock is still way above both the advertised base clock and advertised boost clock so can I ignore this and continue gaming? It’s not like it’s under performing at all as I’m still getting higher fps in game which is what I was aiming for.
  10. I recently built a pc and started benchmarks when I got it to boot. The nvme drive only had like 100mbs write and read. This confused me and I checked the Samsung smart app, leading me to discover the cpu was severely thermally throttling because it was at 100 celcius and not coming down. I thought maybe it was a sensor issue, but when I checked it with a heat gun it maintained that same 100 celcius. I already tried switching the nvme slot and it did not aid it at all. What could this be?
  11. So I got this Predator 15 G9 593 from a New Egg deal back in 2018. The Soces are given in the bottom. This laptop has the 7th Gen i& and a freaking 1070 yet it struggles to run COD Warzone over 50 FPS. Struggles means, either wholesale thermal throttling and stutters or just random freamedrops. Oh, It gets worse every time I try to just record gameplay using OBS. Sometimes CPU and GPU both reach 90+ and 80+ Degrees C, respectively. Here's what I've tried: 1. Changing the Thermal paste: using Kryonaut by TG, Bought it back in 2018. 2. Cleaning the Cooler fans and the radiators. 3. Connected to the wall on balanced and power mode. Battery is dead though, can't replace yet cause COVID. 4. There's a metallic paper type thingy that used to be lightly stuck to the cooler cooling one of the VRM looking thing near the CPU & GPU. But it came off and wouldn't stick back liked it used to. I used thermal paste on it stick it to the cooler and the VRM to pass heat from the VRM. Every Time I re-apply the thermal paste, the performance in warzone seem to be at least a bit better. But that goes away in 2-3 of months at most. Could this be the issue? Is anyone else facing this kinda issues? And this is reflective in other Games too. Specs: Acer Predator 15 - G9 593 Processor: i7 7700HQ GPU : NVDIA GTX 1070 RAM : 16 GB Storage: NVMe SSD 1 TB + 2TB HDD
  12. Hi folks, I have thermal throttling at low temperatures, it starting at 70°C and it is dropping frequency from 4.7 GHz to 1.2 GHz. And game which demanding high CPU usage are unplayable. Every game should run, more than fine specs: i7 10700k B460M gaming HD - default BIOS Cooler is Argus SU-260 120mm fan RTX 3060 Ti I was reading many topics, but they are mostly about laptops or desktops which reaching very very high temperatures over 90. Which is not my case. Attached are 2 ss from XTU and throttlestop, you can see there low temperatures and huge throttling Did you have similar problem ? Or could you please advice what it can causing ? If u need more details, I will add them. Thank you very much :} Roman I hope that someone can help me here.
  13. I have an ASUS Zephyrum M with a core i7-9750h (base clock: 2.6 GHz boost: 4.1 GHz) with a rtx 2060. I was having a lot of thermal throttling issues which caused massive frame drops and stuttering in all games ultimately making the unplayable. Before servicing my laptop my cpu reached 97 degrees even on the base clock speeds. After changing the thermal paste and cleaning the heat sink and the fans I was able to get my base clock temps down to around 78-85 degrees which is still quite hot. However when I enable turbo the temps shoot up instantly, while gaming they reach temps of around 97-99 degrees. What could be causing this Also when I try gaming on base clock speeds for stable performance I still get the same fps drops and stutter, I checked my gpu clock speeds and they are around 1600-1850 MHz. I don't know what's causing the stutter in games. I've had my laptop fully serviced by professionals and have even reinstalled a fresh windows 10 os. All of my drivers are also upto date. Ps: I've already enabled max performance in the battery settings and nvidia control panel
  14. So long story short i bought a cheapo thermal pad that the seller said can be use for CPU, and last night i tried thermal pad. Before i use the thermal pad, the temp of the cpu and the gpu is around 30 to 45 degree, and after i use the thermal pad the cpu temp is increasing but i think its still acceptable around 40 to 50 degree. But when i try to apply it on the gpu, the temp is already at 60 degree when idle and when i tried to run portal 2 the gpu is thermal throttling way too fast and go to 100 degree in 3 second and my pc died immediately. After that its obvious i'm changing it back to thermal paste. So thermal pad is that bad or its just a cheap stuff problem ? thermal pad price : unknown china brand maybe 4 ¢ thermal paste price : deep cool thermal paste 3 $
  15. Hi, I built my very first PC for work/gaming with intel i7-10700k, MSI Z490 GamingEdge motherboard and MSI MAG CORELIQUID 240R AIO in a NZXT h510 case. I used a Corsair XTM50 thermal paste that I got from bestbuy. I have been noticing high core temps and low socket temps. The CPU is thermal throttling easily (checked using Intel extreme tuning utility). Even with light loads (firefox browsing) temperature is around 95+C/65C {core temp / socket temp}. It idles around 75C/56C. I initially thought I applied my thermal paste improperly, cleaned it and applied it again. But no improvement. My first guess is to change thermal paste. However, found it hard to order online (lot of fakes) and was planning to drive to a nearby microcenter (2hrs away) to pick some up. My choice was Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. (other suggestions welcome) But do you have any comments or suggestions if that is the issue? or am I off track here? Thanks in advance. [Other info that might be helpful: Running a Quadro P2200 (due to GPU shortages) and Windows Server 2019 (got a free copy)
  16. So some info about the whole ordeal first, Recently I repasted my Asus Zephyrus M GU502GU about 3 weeks ago with Cooler Master master gel maker and undervolted it. I ran cinbench r20 to verify if the repasting improved the temps and I got max temps of around 80 degrees celsius on the CPU which was an improvement of about 4-5 degrees. Idle temps were at around 40 degrees and not affected at all. I also played games and saw a 9-10 degrees temp reduction on the GPU side. So overall I was happy with my first ever thermal paste job but since the last 2-3 days I have been seeing negative impacts on the CPU temps. The idle temps are unaffected and the GPU temps remain the same while gaming but while running Cinebench r20 now the CPU reaches a max of 92 degrees and starts thermal throttling. I have read that high idle temps and high core differentials are some signs of a bad thermal paste job but I have none of those issues so what might be the problem here?
  17. I have an ASUS Zephyrus G14, and I recently replaced my thermal paste, only to have a new problem... my fan speeds are capped at 5,000 RPM despite my fan curve and I am thermal throttling quite often. Before I replaced the thermal paste, I had set the fan curve to reach ~7,000 RPM, but now it won't get close. *Temps hit 90C, but it takes a bit longer than before to reach that point
  18. my CPU is Thermal throttling, and I've looked at the manual for my AIO (Lian Li Galahad) on how to specifically mount it, I've re mounted it, 3 times now, and the throttling keeps occuring after a certain period of time, for example, when I've finished conducting maintenance on my PC (Pretty much just Screwing out the pump from it's socket around the CPU, and for about 3 weeks or something, it's "fixed", but after that certain period of time, it'll start throttling again, and the temperatures sit around 50c plus just sitting in the BIOS, and when using Cinnebench R20 to stress test it to see if it's a specific core causing the issues, it'll reach 100c very quickly, I've checked everything, I've re seated the AIO multiple times, but it still doesn't stop, I've checked the power board it's plugged into, I've taken out the connectors for the CPU in the motherboard twice, they all click, I've re applied thermal paste, I even put a bit more than usual in case it's not the paste, I've checked the Pump Headers on the mother board, my PSU is new, only about 8 months old, 1000w EVGA G5, I've narrowed down the cause to power delivery or the cooler, but I've followed the manual that comes with the AIO, please help, it's been happening for months!
  19. I really need help, I have a entry level gaming laptop With amd ryzen 5 3550H @2.1Ghz And gtx 1650. I started noticing stutters in games frequently, and I found that themal throttling is why that happened, the cpu temperature is above 90*C, The real problem is , the game RDR2 gives 43 fps while cpu running at 3.5Ghz(100%) , 90 degrees . To remove turbo boost, my bios had no such option, so with cpu maximum performance set to 99% in advanced power option, the cpu temperature dropped dramatically to 70 to 83 degrees , running at only 1.68Ghz , (I don't know why decreasing 1% gets it from 3.5 Ghz tp 1.68Ghz- which is not even the base clock @2.1Ghz) Surprisingly RDR2 performed well with 35-41 FPS. With no stutters. but sekiro haven't had the same results It dropped from 51-59 fps to 40 - 49 fps I bought it four months ago , so I hesitate to open the backplate to clean the fans, Is there any way I can get more than 1.68 ghz without using turbo boost....?
  20. While gaming, CPU temps reach 90°C almost instantly even though its usage never passes 50%. I experience major frame-drops in Fortnite roughly every 5-10 seconds, even with some of the lowest graphical settings. Other games run at the same temperature, but do not have frame-drops. Are there any settings that I should mess with, whether in-game or with Windows? Model: ASUS Zephyrus GA401I (Gaming Notebook) CPU: AMD Ryzen 4900HS with Radeon Graphics GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 with Max-Q Design Ram: 16 GB DDR4 - Thanks for your time
  21. I use a 3 years old laptop, one Gigabyte Sabre 15, as my daily driver. The specs are as below i7 7700hq gtx 1060 mobile 16gb DDR4 2400 128gb SSD, 1TB HDD The first two year performance was okay, but lately i have been experiencing thermal throttling while playing games such as Squad, Genshin, and RDR2. Idle temp of CPU is 64-70 degree which is obviously bad (I live in tropical country, i expect around 50-60 degree when idle). So naturally i do what i think i should. Currently i have done : - Cleaned the internal fan and stuffs - Re applying the thermal paste on both GPU and CPU - I tried undervolting, i uploaded the throttlestop setting, i may need help cause i dont understand a lot about undervolting. If any of you guys can point out what i can do, it will be greatly appreciated. Oh, and please, dont put buying a new laptop as a suggestion, i know thats the end all be all solution but my money is need elsewhere currently. Thank you
  22. I have an Hp Omen 17 from 2018 with an i7 8750h and a Gtx1070 the Modell is Omen 17 an106ng. And i have a Problem, while gaming only the left fan ramps up while gaming to around 4200rpm and the right fan sits at just around 200rpm. And i dont know why they would do this this is stupid and i found out that many people had this issue. So because only one fan ramps up the cpu hit 97 degrees and throttles to 25 watts after a short term. So now while this stupid hp support couldnt help me with my issue iam asking the Ltt forum. First is there any reason to prevent one of the two fans to ramp up and why would Hp do something like this? And i want to know how to get this second fan to ramp up i hope you guys can help me and know a sollution. (And yes i already looked into the bios its pretty musch locked).
  23. Hey guys so I have a Gigabyte R9 290 (with a broken fan, its been through a lot) and lately when I'm playing I get lower FPS than I used to and stuff. Then I checked on Afterburner and saw it was throttling at 94c even though I just recently changed the thermal paste on it. I've been tinkering and testing it and I came to the conclusion it might have something to do with VRAM temp because when dialing its clock down to 725 MHz instead of its usual 1250 MHz it seems to take a lot longer to start throttling down so yeah, am I on the right path? Here's two screenshots of furmark and you can see how much longer it takes to start throttling down. Is there something else I'm missing? Thanks a lot!
  24. About a year ago I bought a pc off of FB marketplace. I went to see the system, tested it out, and decided to buy it. The seller was awesome, he clearly knew his stuff and even provided me with a clean install of windows. I took the pc home, set it up, and it ran great for a few days until it started getting frame drops in game. I used NZXT CAM and MSI Afterburner to monitor the system and I saw that the GPU was throttling almost immediately after launching Destiny 2. After some minor troubleshooting, I took it to my local pc repair shop to see if they could figure out the problem. Several days later they called me and told me that they couldn't replicate the issue and that my system was fine. I went to pick it up and my pc ran fine after that with no issues. About a week ago I got a new SSD to upgrade my system. I replaced the old Vaseky 256gb SSD with a Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB and installed windows on the new SSD. Within days my GPU started thermal throttling again. As soon as I launch a game the GPU shoots up in temp and is at 84C within a couple minutes. I have taken my GPU out to clean the fans, updated the drivers using AVG Driver Updater, and even tried rolling back the GPU drivers to a previous version. So far I haven't been able to solve the problem. My system specs are as follows: CPU: i7 8700K GPU: ZOTAC 1080ti Amp Edition RAM: HyperX Predator 16gb 4000mhz Motherboard: MSI Z370i Carbon CPU Cooler: NZXT x52 AIO PSU: Seasonic Focus 80+ Gold 850 Watt SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1tb (previously Vaseky 256gb) HDD: Segate 2tb Any help is appreciated. I have done a fair bit of searching online and on forums and I haven't found anyone with a similar issue that wasn't solved by cleaning the card or updating the drivers.
  25. My Radeon RX 5600 XT suddenly started to thermal throttle, the first time it happen was right after I switched from a sata ssd to an m.2 drive. I reinstalled windows on the m.2 drive and ever since my gpu has been thermal throttling. It does it in every game, even in non gpu heavy games like rocket league. It never happened in any game while I used the m.2 drive. Does anybody have a clue why this is suddenly happening? I have installed the latest drivers, BIOS, windows updates, other updates even did a CMOS reset. My spec: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X Radeon RX 5600 XT 16GB ram at 3000mhz ASUS TUF Gaming B450m-plus motherboard Be quiet! 650Watt powersupply 80 plus bronze rated I also don't oc anything and have stock cooling. Latest throttle in my latest session:
