  1. I have a Rysen 5800X being cooled by a Corsair H115i RGB PRO XT, 280mm AIO radiator. If I recall correctly, the AIO radiator came bundled with the 5800X when I bought it. I have precision boost overdrive on and if I recall correctly, I've got it slightly overvolted. When I have Folding@home running (CPU only, no GPU), it goes up to 92°C and stays there, drawing around 105 W. With this cooler, is this type of temperature expected at this power draw, or might I have set something up incorrectly (e.g. bad thermal paste application, or incorrect pressure between the CPU and cooler, or have fans blowing in the wrong way)? I tried looking up the cooling capacity of the H115i Pro XT 280mm, but I couldn't find a simple "it's good for up to X watts" answer. For additional context: When I start/stop intensive CPU activity, be it Folding@home or an AIDA64 stress test, the CPU temps rocket up / drop down to normal within a matter of seconds. I don't know the significance of this fact, though, nor do I know whether it's expected. Here's a screenshot of HWMonitor while Folding@home is running:
  2. Hello! I have an ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3070 OC and it drops the core clocks when it hits 76°C. In MSI Afterburner it doesn't matter what I change the Tmep limit to, it still throttles. I have tried reinstalling my GPU drivers with DDU and also rolled back to old Drivers, but nothing changed. I also reinstalled MSI Afterburner and tried changing the Temp Limit via ASUS GPU Tweak III but it didn't change anything. In HWInfo the Temp Limit is displayed as 85°C but it still throttles at 76°C. I can see the Temp Limit Message in Afterburner and HWInfo. I would really like to have the temp limit a bit higher, as the gpu fans have to run at 100% to keep it below 76 and that is very loud xD I would be very glad if someone could help me out here
  3. Asus Vivobook 15 X512DA GPU: Radeon Vega 8 CPU: RYZEN 5 3500U RAM: 12 GB OS: WINDOWS 11 Home GPU Drivers:AMD Software: Adrenaline CPU Drivers: AMD Ryzen Chipset Driver 3.10.08.506 Here is every troubleshooting I did before posting; I system restored it ten days before the problem manifested and it fixed it for a while but after a day, the issue came back. I tested with Power Plans as others suggested but it didn't solve it. Following suggestions, I updated the BIOS from 317 to 318 but again, it didn't fixed it I replaced the thermal paste but it didn't even affect the problem I reseted my PC (Reset my PC but Keep Files). I thought it solved it as it was working fine but again after a day, the issue is back I unplugged the battery and ran it through wall power but nothing happened I tried every method and solution that I've read in the forums and other boards but nothing has help to permanently solve it. I am desperate for the last week thus me posting this hoping for a solution. Few things I've noticed, starting it up, it ran at full speed at 2.10 GHz (even turboing to 3.10~ GHz) for the first few minutes but then suddenly drop amd limit at 0.40 GHz. I tried SpeedFan to check if I have a faulty fan. Though I couldn't control it, my Fan RPM speed is at just 460~ RPM more or less (while at 0.40 GHz). I hope this is enough information to cross out any culprits and find an end this terror. Thanks in advance!
  4. I did a routine dust clean and replaced the thermal paste of my Cooler Master Nepton 120XL AIO, mounted to the middle-top of my case (the waterblock below the tubing entrance on the radiator, the CPU to the left of the radiator aka rear of the case). The pump/waterblock was previously plugged in to the CPU_fan header and the fans in the usual SYS_fan headers. After the clean I booted the PC and was met with temps going up to 80+ celsius purely on boot and noticed that there was no water being moved around in the tubes, no sounds or vibrations. I tried plugging the waterblock/pump header into SYS_fan headers as well as removing all the fans from any headers and running the waterblock from the CPU header alone but nothing changed. I checked the waterblock speed in the BIOS and the CPU_header was being registered at around 2600rpm set to Normal on my Gigabyte b85-HD3 rev 2.1. It did jump from 2600 to 0 a few times in a split second, but I figured it might just be the BIOS catching up to me changing the fan speeds to try and fix it. The Cooler Master logo on the waterblock is lit up and the fans are of course spinning from the SYS_fan headers. It seems to be registering and powered on. I reset the CMOS as well as updated the BIOS to the latest version. I removed the waterblock and reapplied the thermal paste, and also removed the radiator and rotated it a bunch along with the computer which is now sitting on it's rear (on account of the possibility of air bubbles). I also plugged a normal fan into the CPU_fan header and it worked fine, including changing the speed in the BIOS. I managed to bring the temps down to around 30-40 by reapplying the thermal paste and tightening the waterblock better, but the temps jump quickly to around 60 when any activity occurs. I've seen mentions of possible air bubbles in the (now somewhat older) AIO but the water is not being moved around whatsoever when booting or when the PC is running. There were some very short burbles a couple times but the water is not being moved at all it seems. I'll leave it overnight to maybe josh the bubbles a little while it is on it's back, if any are present. Otherwise I don't really know what could be causing this, unless a pump can die and still be registered as working? Thank you in advance for any help! Specs: Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 64-bit Intel Core i7 4790 @ 3.60GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz Cooler Master Nepton 120XL AIO Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. B85-HD3
  5. Hey guys! My CPU temps have always been pretty high which is something I've only recently discovered to be a problem. Under load my CPU reaches 95 C and thermal throttles. I've reapplied thermal paste, fiddled with my power plan adjusted for ryzen CPUs and normal balanced and my CPU still reaches 95 C during load. I suspect it's due to my case and my fans. My front fan is intake at 140mm, radiator fan (exhaust) is 120mm and I've got a rear exhaust at 120mm. My case is the pretty old N500. My GPU is undervolted and the temps are fine. I would hope that I don't have to change the case and that buying and mounting x3 120mm Arctic P12 Silents (result would be (x2) 120mm Intake front, (x1) 120mm back exhaust, (x1) 140 radiator exhaust). Pretty sure my Motherboard doesn't control more than 1-2 fans so I would have to buy a splitter. PC is clean from dust and the Windows is relatively freshly reinstalled. OS: Windows 10 Pro PC Case: N500 KKN2 CPU: Ryzen 7 3800XT (Not overclocked) CPU Cooler: AeroCool Core plus (There are definitely better, but shouldn't get to 95 C under load?) GPU: MSI RTX 3070 Ventus 2X OC Motherboard (Version): Prime B350M-K (5602) RAM: DDR4 2x8 Corsair (2666)
  6. Hey, my ASUS FX505GD laptop cpu, heats astonishingly fast when gaming, like a minute after most of the games start it jumps to 87 C°,I tried thermal paste replacement, cleaning air vents, fans, but nothing seems to work,a friend proposed a solution, but I want to check,if its applicable? before doing it.the proposed solution is just to remove the back cover to enhance air flow circulation,so will that work? you can see the proposed solution picture attached Laptop specifications Cpu:Intel Core I5 8300H RAM:8GB GPU: Nvidia Gtx 1050 HDD:1 tera HDD+256 SSD
  7. Hello dear community, My name is Dino, and I am a CCNA network engineer and a computer geek who also likes making music. This is my first post so I'll try to be as detailed as possible in a easy-to-understand matter. I have a major issue with the XPS 9500, a laptop I have saved up for after years of watching incredible reviews on it, including Linus', I have spent months looking for a fix but I found none so here I am on THE forum to go! I do music production and I enjoy gaming in my free time, but I have noticed that the fans ramp up a lot, yet the laptop thermal throttles like CRAZY. I am aware this is not a gaming laptop but with specs like these... it should be defending it's price tag. I even went ahead and played with the BIOS settings, stuff like Intel Speed Shift, Speed Step and C-State, but none of them helped (disabling Speed Shift actually locked my CPU clock to 2.6GHz which was a no go). Some have advised downgrading BIOS v1.6.1 to an earlier one, but it seems Dell doesn't let you revert after the 1.6.1 upgrade... Below is a screenshot from Ghost Recon: Wildlands as an example (a game that can be run by these specs on High - Ultra easily) - It drops from 4.6GHz to a mere 1.6-2.2GHz and I barely get 60FPS out of it. Any help is appreciated https://imgur.com/rZ1NvKR Specs: i7-10750H - 2.6 up to 5GHz, 6 cores 12 threads GTX 1650Ti - 4GB VRAM 32GB RAM - 2933MHz - dual channel 1TB NVMe SSD
  8. Hello, I have bought Lenovo Legion Y540 ( i7-9750HF, GTX 1650) less than a year ago and have been mostly satisfied with it. The problem is that when the CPU is under full load it quickly reaches 94°C and throttles. So I have been thinking about repasting it with better thermal paste to avoid this problem. After reading about repasting CPUs in laptops I have noticed that many of better thermal pastes (like Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut) tend to solidify very quickly (2 weeks) and thus making laptop's performance even worse. Supposedly this happens due to very high CPU temperatures ( 80°C or higher) in laptops. Beside I have already tried undervolting my CPU by -120mV with Intel's XTU and it cuts thermal throttling time in half. So my question is: Is there any high-performance thermal paste that can be applied directly onto the CPU die and last at least a year, preferably longer?
  9. hi i have a gaming laptop and its thermal throttle as expected so i come with solution but i don't know if its will harm my hardware or not my solution is i live in very cold country and i use my laptop with full setup monitor and mouse and keyboard so I don't need a direct access to my laptop so I put my laptop im my balcony in the cold weather its between -5/-35 and my laptop temperatures drop from 25 to 40 can I do this always or it will harm my laptop ????
  10. Hello My name is Krodizz Currently i am having a Laptop with Core i3 5005u CPU with intel HD 5500 4gb graphics and AMD Radeon R5 M330 2gb graphics. My problem is that the Laptop isn't utilizing the Intel HD graphics. I need to play with the Intel HD graphics as it maintains consistency in FPS and amd doesn't. Please can you tell me a fix and help me out with this. Previously it was working well I just reset my windows 10 recently and this problem occurred. And if i try to run Valorant on Intel Graphics i get black screen and GPU is not being utilised. The Drivers are upto date. Please help me out.
  11. Hi, now that gpu's are finally becoming available for purchase I've got some questions before I buy. I was planning on getting a 3080 for gaming (not for mining), but I've seen a lot of complaints about thermal throttling. I was wondering if this is still an issue with recently bought 3080's. And if it is, will the thermal throttling be an issue for gaming or is it only an issue for mining? Since 90% of these complaints are involved with mining. I also wanted to know if the 3070ti is having these issues since it's also using the gddr6x vram? I've not seen anything involving this issue on this card so far. I know that there is a fix for this by changing the thermal pads for better ones, but I'm not sure if this will void my warranty or not where I live (Belgium). Is it worth to just buy a 3070 to avoid all of this bs. Thanks in advance for helping me
  12. Hey Guys, I've had the card for about 7 months, I got lucky to find one used at MSRP of 1500. However, I never really dove deep into testing out through benchmarks. I was getting about what I expected out of games, maybe a bit less. But yesterday I started to benchmark while watching HWinfo and GPUz. My GPU never went over 72 degrees. I always thought that was pretty normal as I keep my fan curve agressive and keep my side panel off when gaming on my case. I had it overclocked by 100mhz this whole time on the core, and 1000 on the memory. I ran Time Spy and was getting about 15-20 % less than the average score on graphics, and overall for that matter. I thought this was a fluke. But multiple runs and multiple restarts, same thing. I never had RTSS on before, so I enabled that. I saw that my gpu once it hit 72 was throttling the clock down from 1850 or so all the way down to 1300 on some runs. I thought that was absurdly low, which it certainly is. But 72 is not hot, and that should not be happening. My memory seems to be getting hotter faster in the card. I thought this was my overclock, so i sent that back to 0. Same problem. Ran it at stock core clock. Same problem. Google searches turn up some instances of bad thermal pad and paste application. OK, but that surely has to be rare....right? What kind of shitty manufacture would take a halo flagship card and apply the damn paste or pads incorrectly on them? But I digress....I built my PC myself, and have become pretty comfortable with that. I have upgraded several parts, including my CPU and installed an AIO. I have ordered thermal pads, and they are here now. But opening up my 1500 dollar card is a bit daunting and nerve racking to be honest. It looks simple enough. But still, very nerve racking. My question is this; is there ANYTHING else I should consider before doing this? Does anyone else have any experience with the trinity 3090? I ordered both 1mm and 2 mm thermal pads, because I couldn't find solid information anywhere about which one I'll need. If I am on the right track, great...is there ANYTHING that anyone can tell me to avoid or be careful of? anything I need to do to it while it is opened up? All help and tips are welcomed and appreciated. Sorry for the long story. I talk a lot when I'm nervous I guess.
  13. Hi All, Here are all my specs: MOBO: Asus m5A78L-M/USB3 CPU: AMD FX-8320 RAM: 16GB Kingston Fury GPU: XFX R9 290 PSU: 550W I am experiencing something that looks to be thermal throttling even though the cpu is not getting particularly hot This is a screenshot from MSI afterburner./\ This is what CPUID HWMonitor is showing me /\ When playing games (BattleField 4) it has a similar outcome in that the temps dip but on BF4 the CPU usage also dips. To stress test the CPU i am using Prime95 which i think is why the usage stays at 100 throughout even though the temps would indicate that it is fluctuating Any help on this would be appreciated.
  14. I've bought my laptop 3 years ago now and I had performance issues since the beginning because of the heat it generates while playing, but at first it wasn't that big of a problem because games would run just fine even on max settings. Since a few months tho I'm not able to play Dead by Daylight on low, I keep getting big frame drops every 45-60 seconds (I'm guessing it's because of the thermal throttle). I bought thermal paste 2 years ago because i wanted to change it to maybe get better temperatures but I decided not to change it in the end because I was too scared to break something and I would also lose warranty. Now it became unbearable tho so I will do ANYTHING to get my performances back, even if it requires disabling the thermal throttle threshold (I don't care if this might break my pc, it would be a good reason to change it if it happens). P.S. I've already tried using throttlestop to mitigate the issue but it's too complicated to use and after updating my laptop bios i can't change my mhz anymore These are my laptop's fans. I opened it today to look at em and the cpu one is REALLY dusty, so if you can suggest to me a good thermal paste and some tools to remove the old thermal paste

  16. Hey! I have changed the thermal paste of my laptop, the cpu temerature dropped from 70-80 to under 60 in gaming but the gpu is still 92-95. I used 99,9% isopropyl alcohol to clean and Arctic MX-4. What should I do?
  17. Hello All, My i5 6600k temp idles around 44° C to 49° C and with load (playing game-cs go, using video editing tool-filmora) it shoots to 100° C within 30 seconds. Also when I did a stress test with intel extreme tuning utility same thing 30 seconds into the test it shoots to 100°C. Also my CPU usage idles at 1-5% while 100% under the same load as above. After a lot of research I finally figured that I might need to change my thermal paste and I have ordered it. As I am waiting for it I would like to know what are the other optimizations that I could do within my BIOS and windows setting to reduce this extreme temperature and usage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 18. Allow me to start by introducing the situation. I've been trying to help someone I know with their Dell Inspiron 3650, they're having issues with thermal throttling after prolonged gaming sessions which I think happens because the heatsink is so small. They usually play Team Fortress 2, which is a CPU intensive game and on top of that their CPU is also busy with integrated graphics too, so I got thinking. Maybe it would be a good idea to buy an appropriate GPU for this PC to help off-load some of that stress off of the CPU by letting another component deal with the graphics. I know upgrading to a whole new PC is the actual solution here and they're going to but that's gonna take a while and so we want to work with what we have. I just need to know if buying something like a GT 730 would help and if it would be enough for it to be worth it. If it's not we'll just wait until they can buy a new PC. My thanks to anyone who can give me some insight here. Current Dell Inspiron 3650 specs that I could find (will try to clarify if necessary): CPU: i3-6100 GPU: none Memory: 4GBx2 of DDR3L (1600 MHz)
  19. I was wonder what the max temps are that I should allow my cpu to get to?. I have a 17 12700kf and currently my temps are in the 80s when gaming, but when doing creative work which puts any kind of extended load on the cpu I am thermal throttling and My temps typically get up into the 90s with some cores maxing out at 100 C. I just got some phanteks T30s to replace my radiator fan and case fans. But I was just wondering what temps I should be aiming for? I typically use my pcs until they die so I want to get as much life out of this as possible.
  20. Hi everyone, First time building a computer that I disassembled from a friend (which was working fine) and currently facing an issue with my CPU instantly throttling whenever I run a stress test. My idle temperature is around 25 degrees, and when I run Prime95 with "small FFTs" config the temperature instantly jumps to around 90-100deg and the CPU thermal throttles. Here are the relevant WHinfo graphs (with complete CSV file attached): My specs are: CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K CPU cooler: DARK ROCK 4 with arctic MX4 thermal paste Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z97-D3H-CF, F9 Bios (latest) RAM: 32GB (8gb*4) GSkill F3-2133C10-8GSR, running @ 2133 MHz xmp profile 1 PSU: Thermaltake smart 700W GPU: ASUS RTX 2070 SUPER EVO OC SSD: 256GB apotop ssd s3c HDD: 2TB Toshiba DT01ACA200 OS: Windows 10 x64 22H2 19045.2546 I have used my old cooler master MASTERGEL thermal paste and reapplied it twice and bought new MX-4 and reapplied it again in a X pattern - and the issue persisted with all installations. Here is a picture of the cooler installation: What is the cause of the issue? How can I further diagnose it? Thanks in advance for any help!
  21. Just moved my system into an ITX case. Motherboard and graphics card changed but 3700x staying the same. No issues in my old case. Now, when I first boot up the cpu immediately thermal throttles normally around 90 degrees and will slowly increase if I let it all while sitting idle. I turn it off and immediately turn it back on again, and the cpu then sits at 35/40 degrees. I can then go and play games without it exceeding 50. Anybody know why on the first boot up it might be doing this?
  22. I know there is Intel 10th gen mobile CPU coming out soon, but I have a client that requires an intensive CPU load productivity laptop right now. I was looking up for something in his budget and from what I can see the I7-9750H and I7-9850H are perfectly suited for what he told me. Here's the problem, from what ive seen so far, each and every one of those laptop equipped with these CPU are thermal throttling. Since the I7-9750H is technically the best CPU for him I want to know which laptop is the coldest among the whole bunch ?? Minimum specs he requires his work and personal gaming habit. CPU: I already determined that one GPU: Mobile 1650 or faster RAM: 32Gb 2400Mhz or faster SCREEN: 1920x1080, 60Hz minimum requirement WEBCAM: Must have one, by preference a 720p or better KEYBOARD: Backlit is require I have no problem of disassembling a laptop for manual operation inside either, I have almost every high end thermal paste including LM too. I have to find a solution for him to keep his CPU temperature low enough that it will allow itself turbo boosting 24/7. The only thing that I am not allowed to do is to control voltage via a program in any OS, this criteria must be done in BIOS or I would have failed. To resume all that - Is there any laptop that is cold enough to allow turbo boost 24/7 for this CPU ? - If there is none, which laptop I could use as a template and modify it a bit to suit this purpose ?
  23. I have a MacBook Pro 15in 2019 and as we all know it has a lot of thermal and cooling issues. I was thinking of getting a new bottom for my computer and venting the bottom right above the fans to get better air flow. Has anyone done this? Does it help with thermal throttling, cooling, and performance?
  24. A week ago i repasted my laptop, and it was running fine. But now the temperatures are high again, and i have no clue why?? I used thermal grizzly kryonaut for the repaste. Any clue why it runs hotter after week?
  25. I believe my laptop is thermal throttling as whenever I play a video, or open half a tab of google chrome, the fan speeds ramp up to 'take off' speeds. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 735 2 with an intel i7-5500u. I attached a screenshot of the min and max temps from within the hour. The laptop is about 5 years old I believe and I think the thermal paste has worn out. To replace it, I ordered a graphite thermal pad to replace it: [https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CKVW18G/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1] What other issues might be causing the cpu to overheat that others have experienced?
